Marianela Nuñez has been awarded an OBE in His Majesty The King’s New Year’s Honours list for services to dance.

Marianela says:

“I am deeply honoured and humbled to receive this OBE. I have been privileged to make The Royal Ballet my dancing home for over a quarter century, and receiving one of this country’s most special Honours means the world to me. I am indebted to everyone who has supported me over the years to help communicate the life-affirming power of dance.”

tried to pick up the guitar, havent touched it in over 6 months (it's so bad)

new pointe shoes update!

i got fitted for new pointe shoes this weekend and i have finished sewing and breaking them in (not by much because i still like them kinda hard). heres a side by side of my old shoes next to my new ones (before ive sewn them):

so yeah. something new

now the work commences into getting back into pointework after 3 weeks (it feels like forever) and hopefully i will be able to dance sugarplum for my school project (which i am still trying to do. im too far in to stop now unfortunately)

yeah ofc! just havent been posting as much because ive been busy (nutcracker season at ballet AND exam season at school does that to a mf). and also ive been getting alot of asks that idk how to answer bc theyre out of my expertise (theyre mostly about russian ballet that idrk too much about 😔 i just like reading about it from other ppl lol)

nutcracker season really is in full swing because before class i was practicing sugarplum for my project and after class we jumped straight into waltz of the flowers

It's nice that you have La Bayadere in your queue before Halloween! I kind of think that the Shades have a nice Halloween party with the spirits of ballerinas past! (Of course, the Willis probably have a dance party then too!)

I DIDNT EVEN THINK OF THE TIMING?? but yeah the kingdom if the shades is canonically the underworld or smth so it is indeed, spooky. and arent the shades the souls of bayaderes who died too? that was one interpretation i read, although other versions just have them as clones/visions of nikiya, which is also kinda spooky imo

and the wilis obviously are devouring the souls of the pervs (npmd reference!!!!!!!!) at their own nighttime party :)

My Nikiya’s death inspired pointe shoes are complete!

I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do with my first pair of pointe shoes, so I decided to decorate them based on La Bayadere. The red shoe is inspired by the traditional red costume Nikiya wears and the black shoe is the flower basket with the snake. 🐍🗡️🩰
