day 2 of project sugarplum

what i did: worked on perfecting the 1st phrase, learnt the 2nd phrase

what i need to work on:

"lingering" on pointe

port de bras and artistry: i get so focused on the feet (bc the steps are difficult) but then neglect my upper body, failing to convey the magic of the fairy

day 1 of "project sugarplum"

so at the moment of writing, i am in the process of learning sugarplum's solo for a school project. wow its difficult lmao (i expected this tbh). im hoping to present and film the solo by december, just in time for nutcracker season, and also to give myself ample time to finish the second half of my project, which involves research into the evolution of the ballerina as we know (and love) today.

what i did today: learnt the first phrase of sugarplums solo

what i need to work on next:

the first 4 walks: make them look delicate but don't fall over

the pique section that isnt actually pique section but is something different entirely

the next phrase :)

so yeah! i hope i can continue to get better at this lmao :>

this might sound really silly but graduating and getting my first full time job has given me a new appreciation for the freshgrads who get thrown right into principal roles like koshkaryova, khoreva, sergeenkova & co. i know it's not the same thing but holy shit i was fine in school but now i don't even know how to apply for annual leave !! i don't have the confidence to send something to the clients without getting it vetted first !! i don't know how they're up there performing the same responsibilities as principal dancers twice their age

Absolutely. Learning to be a disciplined adult without a parent (or on this case, a teacher) keeping one in check is a maturity process that everyone has to go through. I would hate to mix in the pressure of dancing soloist roles from the jump.

oh yeah on a slightly less related note i need to decide on a solo (or set of solos) to present for a school project and odette/odile is on the cards (though might not be picked because. i dont wanna butcher such an iconic role). thinking i might do tchaikovsky pas or sugarplum tho.

i had my first class at the new ballet school! everyone was so welcoming and nice but the classes themselves were so difficult (thats what i get for being placed in the advanced class lol)

giggling and twirling my feet rn because a beloved disney album ive been using for ballet was taken down last week and came back under a different name <3

i can now continue to do pirouettes to le festin

i did a back stretch and i felt all my back vertebrae c r a c k it was the best thing ever

lately instead of "pull up" i think "lock in" and idk it kinda helps me more
