So i just finished the movie earlier and I am in so much feels right now HAHAHA. Just a mini rant regarding the movie! MAJOR spoilers ahead
i'm so happy i went in blind for the movie so i literally have 0 information about it. The only thing I know was Heiji and Kaitou Kid were gonna be it. So colour me surprise when there were a lot more easter eggs and fun references to canon scenes than I expected, and I do semi-enjoy them. But I was truly SHOOKEDTH when Aoko appeared. I literally gasped and was screaming internally in the cinema because MY BABY GIRL??? While it made sense that she should be there when Inspector Nakamori was shot, I still didn't expect her to be included in the movie at all. Every scene with her were the best moments I had tbh, followed closely by Kaitou Kid's angst when he couldn't save Inspector Nakamori (hmm yes i love the pain and guilt and emotional distress HAHAHAH) I would probably need a second or third watch to fully grasp how they solve the riddles to the treasure thingy, but I'm okay to cast that concern aside in exchange for enjoyable, strong character-driven moments! But sadly, the dynamics were kinda lacking in this movie for me. There were just so many things going on, with the confession plan, then the murder, then the kidnapping, then the riddle, then the story of the swords... you get it. This movie had so many things going on that nothing was going on at the same time? I felt like if I were to watch any other movie with Heiji&Conan/Kid&Conan/Heiji&Kid in it, their dynamics would be the same and underdeveloped. In fact, what I love were actually the unconventional or lesser popular dynamics? Like I mentioned, Aoko really steal the show, and I enjoyed her interaction with Conan and referencing to Kaito's younger self LOL. And when Ran noticed and was supportive of Heiji's confession plan, their moments were super nice and cute too! (Though it was no shocker when Heiji's confession was ruined, once again. At this point I really do feel bad for him.) Now, to the important part: the cousin reveal HAHAHHAHA When Heiji asked Conan if he has a sibling or something, I was kinda "hmm??", but I didn't thought they would really go with the reveal in this movie. While being a KaiShin shipper, I still adore ShinRan and KaiAo a lot (those KaiAo crumbs cured my sadness HAHAHA). I'm not sure if I would incorporate this new reveal into any future KaiShin fics (if I'm writing any), but still I am kinda disappointed that they decided to reveal it this way, like it's just a "by the way thing". But what was worse was that Toichi is indeed really alive, with this information backed and followed up since the Midnight Crow arc in Magic Kaito Manga. This "plot twist" actually felt rather flat, like it was done just for the shock factor and not for substance. Like there really wasn't a point for it? Unless the dcmk verse is really going to unite and they are going to take down the BO + Snake gang together in the future? Idk. This whole thing feels cheap... and an unnecessary plot device. Honestly, it would be a lot cooler if Phantom lady (Chikage) plays a more active role than Toichi's "Kaitou Corbeau". His actual death was what motivated and made Kaito who Kaito is today. And to just rip that away because Gosho cannot allow good characters to remain dead... is just kinda ugh. MagicKaito-verse is kinda messed up for me now and I felt a little bit sad when I walk out of the cinema after that LOL. I still love DCMK and I will always adore all the characters in my heart (bigger shoutout to Aoko though LOL), but I just hope that whatever direction Gosho takes with the story, it's for the better: Rather than relying on the characters to make the plot interesting, he should address/better the plot that drives the characters to complete their interesting stories. Not sure if this make sense but yeah. Oh well, if you have read till this far, thank you for hearing my long rant! I do feel a bit better after this HAHAHAHA

It was just a normal heist, a useless prize that wasn’t Pandora. But on that rainy trip back home, the gem glowed in Kaito's breast pocket, and the next thing he knew, he woke up in the back alley as a cat.
Still, it was fine. No problemo. No biggie wiggie. Because Kaitou KID and Kuroba Kaito had at least twelve lifetimes' worth of experience with far worse things combined; he just needed to swallow his pride and ask Akako for help.
But what Kaito didn't plan was to run into Kudo Shinichi on the streets, or to realize that the detective actually liked cats. And Kaito definitely didn’t expect to be brought home, pampered with a warm towel and be caressed under Shinichi’s calloused hands—
Wait… what?
At this point, having to eat fishes was the least of Kaito's concerns.
#dcmk#kaishin#kudo shinichi#kuroba kaito#so i got a mechanical keyboard and i love typing in it so much that i started typing this nonsense HAHAHAH#balancingdietwrites#will my brain be able to make this work...

GAHHHHHHHH WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS 😭Thank you so so much ahhhh!! *cries an ocean* you drew Kaito so soft and beautiful and AHHHH!! EVERYTHING IS PERFECT I love this so much!!
He had to check the seriousness of Kaito’s wound, to see if he had down played his injury before deciding what was needed for the treatment. Shinichi felt a shiver from the touch, but he wasn’t sure if the shiver came from himself or Kaito, and decided to ignore it.
“Preferred going to the rooftop to deal with the injuries or whatever.” Kaito sniffed. “I’d want a nice view if I need to go through some suffering.”
Shinichi tugged the knot loose, untying the cloth. “Excuse my office if it’s not the best view.”
Kaito glanced up, and flicked his gaze down silently.

balancingdiet’s multi-chaptered fic “Snippets of Conversation” is living rent-free in my head and this is a scene I adore and keep visualising again and again. I highly, strongly, warmly recommend this fic:
it has excellent characterization for all the cast, including but not limited to a Kaito who feels so much and makes me so soft inside. So many glorious moments and careful, vivid writing. Wonderful post-canon slow burn! Check it out!
#fan stuff#thank YOU SO MUCH!!#goodness gracious my heart!!! this was one of my favourite pinning scenes written and to see it drawn out too… AHHHHH#I’m in pAIN

oh my god... I am... I AM... dead* THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS AHHHHH i can’t express how much i love this!
“Morning, Kudo-kun.”
Shinichi was in the midst of setting up his computer when he glanced at the door, the source of where the voice came from.
“Hakuba?” Shinichi pressed his palms on the table, standing up as well. “Is there something wrong?” He was half-contemplating if he should excuse himself quickly to get a cup of coffee from the pantry first, judging the matter of discussion must be important to have him visit so early in the morning without warning.
“Wrong? No.” The blonde smiled, looking relaxed as he moved closer to the table. Shinichi gestured to have him take a seat, and they both sat on their chairs in sync. Since Hakuba had time to idle so casually, Shinichi guessed there wasn’t any terrorist or bombs threatening the city at the moment, then.
“I was graced with 38 messages at three in the morning from Kuroba-kun,” Hakuba said as he smoothed the tie over his suit.
Shinichi widened his eyes. This was the last topic he had in mind. “What happened?”
“37 of the messages were irrelevant. There is only one that brings me here.” Hakuba smiled (or smirked. Shinichi couldn’t tell). “He finally agrees to work with me.”
Shinichi leaned against his chair, and he didn’t even realise his fists were clenched under the table until he relaxed them. At least nothing was physically wrong with Kuroba, but he couldn’t help recalling the strange moment when they were waiting for his car outside the hotel again, nudging him now like how it did for the past two nights—even if it was as brief as a thought before sleep. He had concluded his suggestion was a mistake, but seeing how Kuroba took action so much quicker than expected, he wasn’t sure about it anymore.
“Ah,” Shinichi said, when he realised he’d forgotten to produce a response.
Hakuba eyed Shinichi carefully. “Judging from your reaction, I am right to assume you have something to do with his change of heart?”
“I lightly suggested to him once a few days ago.”
“Once.” Hakuba echoed, and gave a light laugh. “I’ve lost count since the day I tried.”
“If I had known, I would’ve asked him sooner,” Shinichi said, looking apologetic. He was so convinced that he had no power over the somewhat one-sided, more than a decade adversary Kuroba had for Hakuba, but who would have guessed?
“In no way did I mean that, but I suppose I’m here to give my thanks too.” Hakuba placed a hand over his chest. “In any case, I do have a few pet projects that will fit Kuroba-kun in nicely, but I’ll do my best to not take much of his time away from you.”
Shinichi cupped his hands together, fiddling with the edge of his thumb. “If that’s necessary—
“Yes, but I believe that isn’t what Kuroba-kun wants.”

it’s been a long while HAHAHHA giving myself no pressure to post anything due to life + work, but at the same time i’m excited to share this one-shot that I’ve started on recently (after a long break)... *hints* my current favourite trope is “didn’t know they were dating” and not to forget slow burns.
short teaser ahead
----- It was a normal day. A normal prerequisite briefing before the bigger one with more stakeholders. They met at the cafe behind the Police HQ, Shinichi sipping onto his coffee while Kaito’s ice chocolate was left on the table, temporarily forgotten as he busied himself reading what Shinichi had brought. But there was something different about this assignment. And when Shinichi realised Kaito had taken around ten seconds longer than usual to finish reading, he figured something could be wrong. Something must be wrong, anyway.
“I understand this could be uncomfortable.” Shinichi placed his mug on the table, watching as Kaito continued scanning the brief in his hand. To bring such important documents out in public would be insane, so all the papers were in codes, one that wouldn’t be easily derived except for people who had worked with Shinichi for years.
Kaito glanced up from the rim of the paper. “Uncomfortable?”
Even though they had already made sure nobody was near to eavesdrop on their conversation, Shinichi leaned forward and lowered his voice. “The location.”
Kaito’s eyes were still locked into Shinichi’s. “The gay bar?” he said without even checking. “What about it?”
Does that not answer it? Shinichi cleared his throat. “You will be infiltrating in there and…” Shinichi looked away. “I don’t want you to do anything that could make you uncomfortable.”
The long silence tempted Shinichi to glance at Kaito again, and when he did, Kaito barked a laugh, shocking Shinichi to jump in his seat.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” Shinichi scowled.
Kaito’s chuckles had died down, but he was still grinning. “There's no way in hell I’d enjoy hanging out with these douchebags. But if you’re worrying about the other thing, it’s fine.”
“What—”
“I’m bi.”
“...Oh.”

trembling hands
Detective Conan & Magic Kaito Characters: Kaito/Shinichi Words: 1300 ish Required Fic: Tabula Rasa Extra: (1) (2) (3) (4)
Kaito unintentionally invited Shinichi to watch his performance at the hospital.
For the past year, Kaito had been volunteering more times than he had combined when Aoko was still... around. It might seem Kaito wouldn't have any problems when he'd held so many of these performances already, but there was still one issue he had yet to solve.
Being in the hospital setting, Kaito couldn’t use his doves so that would reduce the number of tricks he could do, but that was never his concern; he'd already curated new tricks over the weekends and practiced last night, and Kaito just had to work a little on the timing since it was likely he'd overrun the thirty minutes session... but that was not the current concern either.
Sitting on the couch in his living room, Kaito stared at his trembling hands.
They had been like this the whole morning.
A flap of wings and a dove landed on the armrest. Being the most intrusive and shameless dove Kaito ever owned, he knew it was Tamago before he had to look.
“You just had your breakfast,” Kaito reminded.
Tamago didn’t answer. It continued to look at him, its red, beady eyes emitting a sense of curiousness that only Kaito would recognise.
Ignoring his companion, Kaito slowly clenched his fists, willing them to stop shaking. For consolation, at least Kaito's situation didn't get worse and had been improving over the months; comparing to the first few weeks when he returned as a volunteer, it wasn’t just his hands but his whole body that would be shaking, and there were a few times when the mere thoughts of going to the hospital could set his lungs on fire.
Fire—
Tamago cooed.
Kaito sighed and leaned back to lay his head on the couch. “I’m fine.”
If it was even possible, Kaito would’ve thought he saw Tamago rolled its eyes.
Kaito glanced at his clenched fists. They were still trembling, but luckily there were still a couple of hours to go before he had to leave his house. Maybe by then, he should be—
Kaito’s ear twitched as he straightened on his couch and glanced towards the direction of his kitchen. He swore he heard the faint sound of a door opening.
And now there was the sound of the door closed.
Kaito sprinted towards his kitchen and peered through his windows that faced his backyard. If only the previous owner of the house had constructed an extra window pane on the right, Kaito would have a perfect view of Shinichi’s backyard too. Instead, Kaito had to press his face near the glass and crane his neck out, just barely catching a glimpse of Shinichi’s empty-looking backyard. But it wasn’t empty, per se.
Shinichi was there.
“Huh?” Kaito raised an eyebrow. “What is he doing?” he wondered aloud. Kaito would rather believe Shinichi was there to bury a dead body than to take care of his tragically, overcrowding plants.
Kaito had no plans to be a detective, so he grabbed a watering-can under the sink as a disguise and headed out to get the direct answer he wanted.
Shinichi turned at the exact second Kaito stepped onto his backyard.
Now from a better angle, Kaito could see what Shinichi was really up to: He was holding a mug, which Kaito dared to bet his precious card gun that it was filled with coffee. So he was drinking with a perfect view of his dying plants. Truly a wonderful experience it must be.
“Good morning, neighbour.” Kaito put up a hand. “What coincidental timing.” He pointed down at his watering can, hoping Shinichi would buy his excuse for his appearance.
It seemed Shinichi did. “...Morning,” he muttered.
Maybe Kaito should have waited a minute later before coming out, just so the caffeine would kick in for Shinichi or something— Hah, would that have mattered to Kaito anyway? He answered his own thoughts by strolling towards the fence and closing their distance, feeling carefree indeed.
Shinichi made no move to go closer to the fence, though he didn’t make any move to go back into his house too. But the most shocking thing of all was that Shinichi spoke first when Kaito finally reached the fence. “I never knew you’re a morning person,” the detective said, sounding stumped as if this was a case he was trying to solve.
“You’re right, I’m not.” Kaito propped an elbow over the fence. “It’s just that I have something on later so I woke up early for it.”
Shinichi raised an eyebrow. It was either Kaito’s words or the caffeine had finally kicked in; he looked much more awake now. “What do you have?”
Funny enough, Kaito didn’t realise his hands had stopped shaking until they started again. He was glad that Shinichi could only see his elbow from his view; Kaito’s hand was hanging over the side of his own fence.
Really, Kaito should have expected Shinichi’s question...
Ah, the feeling of regret. How nostalgic.
Kaito could lie, no doubt; it was one of his many talents to make his answer turn out to be a joke without trying. But this time he knew there was no point to lie. Not because Shinichi was smart enough to call him out, Kaito believed Shinichi couldn’t care less about the truth too.
“I have a performance at a hospital,” Kaito said.
“Oh.”
“Feel free to come visit. No entry fee, obviously,” Kaito smirked. And it was like he was blabbering—from the ironic nervousness of hoping his anxiety wasn’t going to be triggered—as he told Shinichi the time and which hospital it was before the detective could even say if he want to come or not.
Shinichi simply hummed to the information and went on to drink his coffee silently, which Kaito didn’t know what it exactly meant, but it wasn’t until ten seconds later than Kaito realised Shinichi wasn’t going to speak anymore. As expected.
And stupidly, at the eleventh second, it somehow occurred to Kaito and made him wonder why he even approached Shinichi in the first place. To annoy the detective early in the morning? Like... a distraction? Yeah, that seemed like the only plausible reason. And if so, Kaito should start to think of his exit to end this; this was dragging a little too much.
Luckily, it was also one of his many talents in making it seemed effortless like a joke, too.
“Eh, detective. Can you hear that?”
Shinichi glanced up from his mug and stared at Kaito. “Hear what?”
“The cries from your plants because they’re dying.” Kaito pointed at Shinichi’s pots before hiding his hand back behind the fence (they weren’t shaking again, but just in case).
Shinichi rolled his eyes. “Like I’ve said, they’re still well and growing.”
“Like I’ve said, it’s actually overcrowding and that means bad.” Kaito shook his head.
“...Hey, did you hear something?”
Kaito blinked. Was Shinichi trying to play some kind of Uno reverse-card ploy at him? “What?” Kaito asked warily.
Shinichi snorted. “It’s the sound of your roses crying because they're dying from thirst and not growing, thanks to you.”
Kaito had heard and withstood many kind of insults (courtesy of Hakuba for fulfilling some on the list), but no one had yet to mock about his roses before. Now that Shinichi was the first to check that box, Kaito finally knew what it was like, and indeed, it was ridiculously funny.
Not true, but funny.
Kaito made a show by laughing and wiping an invisible tear off his eye. “You’re hilarious, detective.”
Shinichi watched in disdain. “I’m done with you," he said, briefly checking his watch before chugging the remaining coffee. "I'm going to work."
“Yes, justice and murder awaits.” Kaito waved with the watering can in his hand. "Goodbye."
Shinichi didn’t return the farewell, as per usual, and left for the door to his kitchen before closing it behind him. Kaito could see Shinichi’s shadow moving back and forth in the kitchen from his window, but only until Kaito heard the sound of Shinichi’s car starting in front, he finally dared to allow his face to relax and his plastered smile fell.
Leaning against the fence, Kaito braced himself and looked at his hands.
For now, they weren’t trembling anymore.
// “You came,” (Kuroba) said, his statement sounded more like a question. It wouldn’t be as absurd if it wasn’t Kuroba that invited him to come in the first place.
“You asked me to,” Shinichi muttered, clearly remembering the exact moment when Kuroba did: With a propped elbow over their fence, he'd disturbed Shinichi’s quiet morning and told him he was free to come to today's event. //
