im of the opinion that you can’t, nor should try to dictate someone else’s sexuality or gender, and if you acknowledge that gender is fluid, then you need to understand that sexuality is also fluid
#trans men and masc-aligned enbys and genderfluid being lesbians doesn’t affect you#and no trans men aren’t being transphobic to themselves or misgendering themselves by being lesbian#no one is saying YOU have to like men#just that some masc-aligned people may be lesbians and that some lesbians may like masc-aligned people#i simplify my identity as being a bi aromantic trans guy but really im genderfluid & abrosexual#sometimes im a gay man sometimes im a nonbinary lesbian. most of the time im bi & somewhere in between guy & enby#gender is messy. sexuality is messy. we should all just embrace the mess#discourse tw

blocking anyone who unironically uses the terms “transandrophobia truther” or “tmra” is self care
#im fucking tired of it#yes trans men can be transmisogynistic#im not saying we can’t#just that you’re equating us to cis men as soon as we say we’re a trans man#you’re drinking the radfem juice and im tired of it

Its frankly tiring being part of two subsections of the LGBTQ+ community that are some of the most spoken over because of the privilege the other parts think we have.
transandrophobia is real. Trans men talking about the transphobia we face doesn’t affect the visibility of transfemmes. Its not a pie, and saying we should shut up for the benefit of trans women is just silencing us which is, you guessed it. Transphobic. Most of the time, we don’t even bring up transfemmes when we talk about our oppression. Stop making it about them. Its not about them.
Let gay men have things. Let them have their labels, let them have their flags. If you think the ocean flag is problematic because its a copy, then you are going to be devastated when I tell you about what inspired the original lesbian flag. If you think it has no meaning, I would be happy to correct you. If you think it just reinforces pink=girl, blue=boy, then you are going to be devastated x2 when I tell you about what the colors on the trans flag represent. If you think it shouldn’t be used because the original was made by a problematic person, even after the Ocean flag has moved away from said person, you are going to be devastated x3 when I tell you about the lesbian flag.
Plus. Its just a word. Its just a color pallet on a cloth. trying to scold us for making a word up for our oppression isn’t going to stop us from being oppressed, its just going to silence us. Scolding us for making a flag you think is problematic isn’t going to stop us from being part of the community, its just going to make us feel isolated and upset that we don’t have our own symbols of pride without being yelled at every five minutes.
I’m a proud trans gay man. I’m going to keep talking about transandrophobia. I’m going to keep using the ocean flag because I think it looks pretty and I like having something of my own. I’m going to keep on using these things, so you can either learn to live with me, or just leave me alone

“When you’re a trans woman you are made to walk this very fine line, where if you act feminine you are accused of being a parody and if you act masculine, it is seen as a sign of your true male identity. And if you act sweet and demure, you’re accused of reinforcing patriarchal ideas of female passivity, but if you stand up for your own rights and make your voice heard, then you are dismissed as wielding male privilege and entitlement. We trans women are made to teeter on this tightrope, not because we are transsexuals, but because we are women. This is the same double bind that forces teenage girls to negotiate their way between virgin and whore, that forces female politicians and business women to be agressive without being seen as a bitch, and to be feminine enough not to emasculate their alpha male colleagues, without being so girly as to undermine their own authority.”

hey @the-other-kind , i genuinely don’t understand what you mean. im a trans man myself, and i can’t tell what you’re trying to say, and i can’t properly reply without knowing what you mean /gen
trans women don’t oppress trans men
trans men don’t oppress trans women
as a whole, this is horizontal punching each other. anything else is just bioessentialism and gender essentialism.
however, trans men are also capable of transmisogyny, and that needs to be called out when it happens.
and trans women are also capable of transandrophobia, and that needs to be called out when it happens.
allyship goes both ways, you can’t demand everyone listen to you and do what you say and then ignore when people are trying to get you to listen, and hear the other side

tbh there's a good chance that many who were raised in american schools don't know this, but one of the sanctions on lgbt+ bodies which existed pre-stonewall (and after tbh) was what was called the "three article rule". it was legally required that people would have to be wearing 3 or more items of "correct" clothing for their gender.
a person found in clothing that did not "fit" their assigned gender could and would be arrested. this law wasn't repealed in new york until recently. the actual prosecution of this law has disproportionately affected trans women and women of color.
texas is beginning to create "anti-drag" legislations. pre-existing conditions have shown us the degree to which "clothing must fit your assigned gender" can and will be used to create unsafe conditions for lgbt+ and minority populations. labelling drag "inappropriate" for children isn't just a first step towards systematic abuse - it is the assurance that the systematic abuse will occur. there is no population that will be made safe by this law; it exists only to create moral panic and further division. i've spoken about this a lot, but "think of the children" & "protect innocence" is a vile, white-nationalist stakehold which positions queer expression as being inherently "perverted", "sexual", or "deviant".
legislation that corroborates the sentiment that "drag is not appropriate for children" is incredibly harmful not just in the immediate - but because it sets the legal precedent that any act of gnc expression is inherently inappropriate and wrong.
read up on your history, if you can. and remember: we said we would never let this happen to us again.

This is just your regular free-of-charge reminder that when people argue that transandrophobia does not exist, or that its not important enough to talk about, they are explicitly saying they don’t care about sexual assault victims or victims of suicide (among other things).
Over half of all AFAB nonbinary people and trans men are or will be the victims of sexual assault. These are the highest rates in the community.
About 9 out of every 10 trans men have seriously considered attempting suicide. This is the highest rate in the community.
About half of all trans men have or will attempt suicide. This is the highest rate in the community.
Addressing these issues means talking about them, and we need a word for what this is in order to do that.
This is what “transandrophobia” is for. This is why we need that word.
It’s not about hurting or blaming trans women, it’s not about saying cis men are oppressed for being men or that cis women aren’t, it’s not a “white issue” or an “MRA” thing- and the people who argue that it is, and that we shouldn’t have the word because it is, are distracting from the real issues. They are taking attention away from, ignoring, and erasing those issues. They not only do not care about them- they want you not to care, too.
They want to remove the language we need in order to talk about these problems. They want us to stop taking about them. They want these problems to continue happening.
It’s not a fucking game.

Most trans women don’t have to worry about becoming pregnant accidentally or forcibly and be forced to deal with either A. no access to abortive services B. being forced to out yourself to have access to abortive services or C. be forced to detransition because your testosterone is a risk for the fetus and you aren’t allowed to abort or chose not to.
So like. Transandrophobia is a thing. This is transandrophobia. Fucking shut up.

the difference between transmisogyny and transandrophobia is that transmisogyny is based on actual transfeminist theory and observation of a systemic form of violence with material consequences whereas transandrophobia originates from some dude who was jealous that trans women got to experience that violence and therefore had a word for it

genuinely when you log off and are only exposed to the lives of those around you as god intended you realize how much shit does not matter. i know this is not a hot take but we were not meant to hear every thought, feeling and opinion of people we will never see face to face. it’s so much easier to pile on people for harmless but annoying opinions when you will never have to spend extended time with them.

I guess this is obvious, but I haven't seen anyone saying it, but the problem with 'castrating pedophiles/rapists' isn't that, ya know, that's inhumane, etc—its the trabsmisogyjy inherent in projecting violence & power onto erections & even testosterone itself (which, by the way, essentially ABSOLVES perpetrators by suggesting that 'they couldn't help it' somehow, they were controlled by a hormone)
literally NO ONE would suggest hysterectomies for afab perpetrators.... that symbolic path is completely unpaved
this entire narrative is so patriarchal, it reaffirms the dominance of T & the irresistable (even to those who supposedly 'possess' it) power of the phallus, it's all so deeply cringeworthy....
#if it were to be equivalent#it wouldn’t be a hysterectomy it’d be a vaginectomy#and it’d still be bullshit#also there’s terfs in the notes#be warned

I think an important thing about antimasculism is that it isn't it's own form of a oppression like misogyny or transphobia, it's most often used it conjunction with oppressive systems. Antimasculism is more about the harmful system of ideas we as a culture have about masculinity and manhood, and these ideas come out much more prominently when someone is doing masculinity "wrong". This is seen in the idea of masculine people being sexual predators - the moment you are someone being a man or masculine in a way that isn't socially acceptable, you are immediately suspected of being a predator trying to hurt "correct" women, and sometimes otherwise "correct" men. Cishet white abled etc men also suffer from antimasculism (especially in regards to things like emotional expression & mental health) but antimasculism is best seen in conjunction with racism, transphobia, ableism, colonialism, etc. because that is when those ideas are weaponized by those with privilege against masculine people they look down on. It's a tool that's used to keep down & punish marginalized men, and to keep otherwised privileged men in line.

The fact some of y’all are willing to regurgitate TERF, radfem, and antisemitic rhetoric, dogwhistles, and talking points just to “own” a few “stinky icky boys/TMEs” proves that you (especially non-trans women) don’t actually do this shit to protect anyone. You just do it because you want to hurt people and silence those who oppose you.
If you have to talk like a fascist in order to feel like you’re winning an argument, then maybe you should just accept the fact you’re wrong and lost.

#of course when it comes to individuals there’s other factors#but as a group? neither of us hold privilege over each other#transandrophobia#transmisogyny#transphobia#and sidenote: trans men talking about our oppression isn’t about trans women#us talking about our oppression doesn’t affect you at all#and i say this in the most loving way possible: maybe you should analyze why you feel that way#because it really sounds like projection#i hated everything feminine for a while#but then i figured some shit out & now am more comfortable being feminine#& i don’t just have a blanket hatred for everything feminine#and since it’s acceptable to hate men in ‘progressive’ spaces im sure a lot of trans feminine people don’t feel the need to do that same#self reflection with masculinity & men#and i feel a lot of that hatred for trans men from transfems is projecting personal issues w masculinity & men onto us#honestly really all this infighting is just our actual oppressors turning us against each other#when we need to lift each other up

It is purrhaps time to acknowledge that a lot of myths about transmasc ""safety"" within broader cis society was just coming from transmasc erasure. We weren't safer, or had easier lives, we were just ignored when we suffered.
Now there's even a hint of transmasc awareness rising, it's not surprising there's backlash against us. If you've spent your live believing that transmascs have it "easier" than women, it's easy to be angry at us. much simpler than confronting your own prejudices!
