A reimagined Planes Trains and Automobiles but instead of John Candy we have a Frog and instead of Steve Martin we have a lawnmower. John’s attention to detail in the illustrations is really spectacular and keeps on lingering on each page.

I think we got this before the kids were born mostly because we couldn’t find Hungry Hungry Caterpillar in the used book store. One of those classics that has a morale and the end of the story so if you’re into that this full fills a lesson learned.

Can’t go wrong with a Caldicott Winner. Love how the use of die-cuts in the book push the narrative along. Really great illustrations and who doesn’t like a little yiddish before the go to bed.

Too advanced for the kids but looking forward to when we can crack these puzzles together. It’s like the NYT crossword but for nine-year-olds? The construct or the language of the book is meant to challenge your brain … for example the title reads "See the Sea?"

We got this book from our much adored night nurse. The book is cute but Anna Dewdney’s other books are truly terrible. We’ll stick to this one for now.

John Hendrix is so so so great. A beautiful Christmas story that is like no other.

To be honest, Leif is a friend so I jumped on this book as soon as it came out. We’ll be enjoying it when the kids are older … if you like weird, you’ll love Leif Parson’s artwork.

There are a ton of “good night” books for infants. This one says good night first nations style.

We have the board book version and love making the animal sounds to the babies. ROAR. MEOW. CLUCK. GRUMBLE.

I’m a sucker for picture book artwork. It is both simultaneously sophisticated yet childlike.

We replace “Harry” with “Lady” for obvious reasons.

I like replacing the answers to this fold out book with people in our home. For example: “Who eats all day and makes milk? Is it mommy? No, it’s a cow!” “Who wakes up everyone on the farm? Is it the babies? No it’s a rooster!” “Who likes to roll in mud and play all day? Is it Lady (our dog)? No, it’s a pig!” etc.
