people think their disney x anime or like kingdom hearts character crackships are weird but one of my weirdest crackships is a tva crossover ship: dawn folsom from fillmore and kane from motorcity. i believe they are like toontown cogs as someone who doesnt even play that game that much. both are authortarian (one education/school one society) feelings are weak types who I think their voices would sound good together. the only weakness is that i think they would have good chemistry and believe in controlling a large population of people but one ideological difference: whether education keeps the masses compliant and well behaved or does the opposite.
it's such an odd au concept i had too. time travel. like i even said "the school is called X middle school" X is the roman numeral for 12, motorcity and fillmore are ten years apart. (2002, 2012) dawn's ideas for a giant military school esque harsh in disipline style public school "with all the best facilities compared to any other school in the country" were not as convincing to the school board as she hoped.
dawn fell somehow was time portaled (like she somehow ended up back in time. yup dont know how.) and ended up with kane in detroit who was working on the deluxe project, it messed them both up and she worked with him then somehow made back to her own timeline and could willingly time travel when she could find a way to get back, goes to the 50s (whenever X was created) and started the work for X middle by using persuasive techniques to convince others in the community to get on board with the idea, then jumped to the future, principal folsom of X middle. maybe changed her name like her name wasn't dawn but was "related to the founder/conciever of X" and it showed how she wanted to pick a name that represented a new dawn. then kane meets whoever and has julie in the dystopian future detroit, repressing the memory of dawn.
i feel like you guys should get behind this one. folsomkane. dawn folsom x aberham kane. yea...

i hate the people who do this with adult oriented mature cartoons when recommending people shows. worse is when people just rec people shows seeing people care too much about kids shows and even when people are normal about them, get weirded out. (honestly i feel a lot of people watch a kids show because their own tastes in storytelling are not met often by adult tv and not because they want to not engage in anything more intellectually challenging like in a general sense)
morel orel and bojack are very different! another thing is is when people sit and say "adult animation" sucks, but they just mean comedy cartoons. i really wish people said "why are they all comedies" instead of "why do they all suck" there are so many different types of adult animated tv shows, not just that could exist. so it sucks to see people not adding genre(s) when recommending shows.
i'd even say this is really unique to "western animation" (us mostly) where animation is often treated like it's one size fits all. even sometimes i feel in the us specifically where animation is treated as something very specific instead of broad. it really waters down animation, and i feel like many people are hypocritical when it comes to the things they say when they want animation to get more respect and then they do the same thing just on a smaller level and possibly unintentionally.
animation being treated like a genre instead of a medium is something that actually makes me go insane. beauty and the beast is a romance. the emperor's new groove is a buddy comedy. big hero 6 is a superhero movie. moana is an adventure film. the lion king is a drama. treasure planet is sci-fi. if i was talking to someone who hadn't seen these movies before, and they weren't specifically interested in animation as a medium, then i wouldn't necessarily assume they'd enjoy all of these. and that's just disney movies! try telling an anime fan that fruits basket and fullmetal alchemist are the same genre and see how they react!

aro culture is seeing shippers going "theres no platonic explanation for this 😝" and wanting to kill someone with knives. Like Hello what if i flipped it around and took an Insert Well-liked Canonically Dating Couple from Media and headcanoned them as friends. theyre pals, actually. That kiss scene was an act of indomitable platonic love. taste my wrath.
hell yeah, do it!

are you so normal about your normal blorbo that you create your avatar's ouffit based on them in movie star planet to the best of your ability, or are you azurefaire age 22 with existential rage and ordinary taste in cartoon (character) older than you
I even had the idea for "Infinity Nicky" lmao but it would take a lot of grinding to get something like Nicky's sweater supposedly if they have it in the game

shipping isn’t about what the writers or actors say is or isn’t romantic. shipping isn’t even about romance a good percentage of the time. shipping is about seeing The Dynamic and going absolutely hog wild in your mind and your friends dms about it.

(The pictures are OK KO, COTC, and The Weekenders) It really is a special thing! A whole video could be made on cartoons that do it cause many do have really cool worldbuilding aspects!
One thing that's always really fun for me is looking at a work of storytelling that's credited to one major voice and kind of guessing where they're from by what type of weird they bring to it. Doesn't always work for tv shows because most of the time you just get California and you have several writers behind them all. But animated kids shows really bring out the weird vibes of certain places.
Watching Steven Universe you can really tell that Rebecca Sugar is from the east coast. Without even watching Gravity Falls you can tell Alex Hirsch spent a decent amount of time in Oregon. You can see Pendleton Ward's Texas in Adventure Time and the Alabama Dan Povenmire brings to Phineas and Ferb. Even Butch Hartman brings Michigan vibes to his shows despite none of them being set in Michigan.
It's something that's super fun to see when talking about fictional settings that don't adhere to real world geography. Adds a really wonderful level of charm to a fictional setting when it has that really specific weirdness to it. It's also the same reason why when a show is set in a location where you've lived the vibes are just incredibly wrong if the creators aren't also from there.

oh i'm gonna watch the weekenders the pepper ann fan says blissfully! i saw that one video and one gifset ages ago! ooh i got a community recommended to me and it has these characters tish and carver who seem the funniest in the ooc compliations and will probably be my favorites
*watches 8 episodes of the weekenders*
oh! okay! these characters literally have several things in common with the main trio of said show i like somehow to a specfic extent even if they are obviously different! now is the time i make random comparisons...
carver wants to be cool like pepper ann and can often be self absorbed. but his parents are workaholics like nicky, and he's worked at charity places before like nicky though not willingly (let's be real, she has no true free will) he also has a lot confidence in his apperance like milo
then there's the obvious nicky parallels with tish, but i wasn't expecting tish to also be a vegetarian/vegan (though i will say a more prominent part of tish's character) or also play a specific instrument. but tish has some parallels to pepper ann with the hair and glasses "eccentric" family etc and is also artsy like milo and interested in theatre like pepper ann
there's also this:
Tumblr media
part of me wonders if the exec who shut this version of tish down was like also having war flashbacks to pepper ann and was like NOPE
