i keep seeing people on TikTok complain about how Nosferatu was "predictable," as if they didn't walk into a theater to watch an adaption of the most famous vampire novel of all time. of COURSE it's predictable dipshit, it came free with your impacting gothic horror fundamentally for all of eternity.
"it's too much like dracula!" i'm going to hold your hand when i say this...

saw nosferatu and it was a freaky good time! some non-spoiler thoughts:
robert eggers watching bram stoker's dracula (1994) and noticing the story has dracula look like a normal dude when interacting with mina: hm. cowardly. rotting corpse or nothing.
bill skarsgard is unrecognizable in extremely creepy prosthetics but i do actually think the scariest thing in this movie was lily-rose depp's tongue in that one scene. was unfamiliar with her before this movie but she was really giving it her all.
the sound design in this movie was absolutely IMPECCABLE, especially during the sequence when thomas hutter arrives at orlok's castle. the creeping sense of dread!
perfect way to spend christmas night is watching nicholas hoult, terrified, run around a vampire's castle.
also very happy that a large amount of this movie takes place at night and it's not only visible but also looks great, lots of blue and silver shades.
gonna be honest i did forget the name of two of the side characters and was just mentally referring to them as van helsing and seward because everyone in this movie lines up perfectly with the characters from dracula.
i really do see why there are so many articles about the number of rats on set in this movie because that was. a LOT of rats.
beautiful costumes, especially the dresses and hair.
not sure i've ever seen a character in a film roll their r's as much as count orlok in this one.
could have used more of the cat!

in dracula there is a cowboy and the female lead lives. in nosferatu there is no cowboy and the female lead dies. ergo, the existence of a cowboy is highly important for the survival of the female lead in a gothic vampire story.
#nosferatu#YES#i was talking to my fiance about that after leaving the theater but i hadnt made the full connection#gotta show this take to him when he wakes up tomorrow#we need the cowboy

How was Nosferatu???
SOOOOOO FUCKING GOOD I WAS HAVING A CATEGORY 5 AUTISM MOMENT IN THE THEATRE HOLY SHIT. Robert Eggers is one of my fav directors ever atm… The Lighthouse is already in my top 10 fav movies and I ADORE The VVitch, so I went in with high expectations and I was still blown away.
Good lord that man is so good at creating an atmosphere, AND THE VVVISUALS. The visuals are breathtaking, every shot feels composed like an illustration… it progressed almost like turning the pages of a storybook. The repeating visual motif of “gothic archway framing character like a cage or haloing them in backlighting” was delicious. The sound design was hauntingly perfect, the deep shadowy lighting was executed so well and holy SHIT DID I MENTION THE VISUALS. The opening and closing shots specifically make me feel an immense autistic film-nerd joy that I cannot put into words. I’m actually unwell I cannot express how much I loved that film. It feels like an uncomprimised vision and I live for that shit
On a less serious note. Adding Robbert Eggers’ Count Orlok/ Nosferatu to the hear me out cake

Please please please PLEASE keep your cats indoors right now. H5N1 (HPAI, highly pathogenic avian influenza) is zoonotic to cats, and it is just as deadly for them. Additionally, if you have a way to keep your shoes away from your cat(s), or sanitize them after being out in the world (bleach footbath for example), a little biosecurity wouldn't hurt.
A sanctuary in Washington just lost 20 of their rescue big cats to this virus. It is not getting less dangerous for your cats this year than it was last.
It has ALWAYS been dangerous to let house cats free roam without supervision, but it's becoming dangerous right now to be taking them on leashes if they will have access to ground birds have recently been on, or water they have accessed. Catios might be okay, if they're covered and well-screened, but I would take a moment to subscribe to your local state ag department's email or phone alerts for HPAI in your area, and react accordingly even for covered outdoor areas.
Keep the Kitties Safe!
