Birds don't like the location of the cage to be often changed, that is why choose the most proper place for them in your flat right in the beginning. The place should be lighted up enough, but not to be lit up directly by sunlight. If you have a glassed balcony from late spring to early autumn you can keep your birds there. You can put pots with big - leaved plants around the cage. Thus birds will feel well. The balcony should not be facing south, because during the hot summer days the bird can die of overheating. When temperatures get lower you should bring the bird inside the flat Watch out not to put it near the central-heating or other heating devices because air is drier there. When you bring the birds in be careful because the make lots of mess around especially when they start flying in the cage.
It is known that budgies like to have company - your feathery pet will feel best in the room where the whole family gathers. Choose a room, where you can let the bird fly free -this is very important for its education. Budgies also need fresh air - that it why the room should not be stifling. Exactly because of this reason the cage of the birds should not be put in the kitchen as some beginners do. The steam that appears when cooking is harmful for birds. Except for that, it is very dangerous when flying in the kitchen the budgie to have a tragic end.
The cage should not be put in front of the window - there the sensitive feathery creatures very sensibly feel the atmosphere changes - the cold in winter and the burning sunrays in summer. The cage should not be exposed to draughts, very close to the radiator of the central heating or near the fire place. Whether the cage is placed on a special for this purpose rack is not very important - it could be placed on every solid table or shelf. But on a special rack the cage takes less space, it can be put higher, which the birds will like and it will be easier to move it.
Budgies suffer if the don't sleep enough. That is why you should cover their cage with a light material - it reduces light, but birds don't stay in full darkness.

cage heaven rabbit hutches What makes the best perch for your pet parrot? The answer is easy - it should be natural material as in your birds' natural habitats. In nature birds don't need a nail or beak trim - their environment takes care of all of this - so give your parrot natural wooden perch.
In your home parrots are 24/7 on their feet especially if they spend most of the day locked in cages. Your bird needs few different perches of various diameters and with irregular surface to properly exercise its feet - just as branches and twigs on trees. Different structure/hardness of perches will help trim its beak and nails naturally - many birds owners and breeder would strongly discourage you from use of sandpaper and cement perches as it may damage your parrots' feet. As a general rule the feet of your bird should go 3/4 around its main perch. Even though dowel perches are the easiest to find and common ones they shouldn't be the only perches your bird has. Big flat wooden rest perches also gain their popularity and may be mounted high in the cage for the night sleep (some would recommend rope perches for that - give your parrot options and very soon you will see more happier pet). New perches as well as perches already used by your bird should be washed and cleaned regularly (perches in front of the feeding station more often then others). New natural wooden perches besides washing could be placed in oven for the lowest setting of 200 F for an hour or so to make sure all the insects that may be lurking in the wood are gone.
The most common perches you can find made from (listed in alphabetic order not given any priority):
Cactus (Cholla)
Cajeput Wood
Dragoon Wood
Eucalyptus
Grapevine wood
Island Wood (Coffee)
Manzanita
Ribbon Wood
Rosewood
Wacky Wood Lima

Place the aviary far from trees against falling leaves and branches, but put it in sight of the house and to a direction where morning sunlight comes from. Leave a room around it so in the future if you decide to expand it to have that opportunity. Set the aviary away from the main roads because if you do not consider it, your birds could be startled by the car lights and they are exposed to a risk from the opportunist thief.
Also you should discuss your ideas with your neighbors and check with local authorities if planning permission is needed.
Put down a solid footing against predators and for hygiene reasons. If you have soil floor it is perfect breeding ground for bacteria parasites and is difficult for cleaning .The best solution is concrete, never mind that it is permanent. Predators can not dig it and it is ideal for disinfection. It you are put off its permanent feature, consider the alternative to lay slabs, they have almost the same effect but they are less permanent.
After the footing is set, it is time for the aviary panels. Put a layer of brickwork round the bottom and drill holes 1ft from either end in the panels. Then it is easy to fix the panels together with nuts and bolts. That way they are easy to be dismantled if they have to be moved or replaced. The best method is to fix first the shelter and then to fix the panels to it.
Risks
Predators like birds of prey, rodents, mice, rats and other, foxes, snakes and cats are the enemies of the birds and you have to think about buying ultra-sonic devices which are harmless to your birds, they emit radio waves that scare off the predators.Good hygiene, laying traps and cleaning up spilt seed will help you against rodents and also snakes will be kept away if you place panels on brick work.
Treat your birds for parasites at least once a year. Regular disinfecting and cleaning will reduce the risk if illness.
You should do something against thieves and the elements, too. You aviary should be built sturdy and locks to every door should be fitted. Motion sensitive security lighting and a high quality security alarm are good investment .These preventative measures should deter the thieves .It will be hard for you to control the elements so offer a shelter and keep birds warm and dry.

So the first thing you need to do is plan the hutch. The most important thing to consider here is the layout of the cage. Determining the layout means you're going to look at your budget and decide if you can afford a bigger multi-sectioned hutch or just a basic version modeled more like a cage. This cage-like type of hutch is the most commonly used and cheaper to build.
Multi-sectioned hutches, on the other hand, are more expensive to build but are very spacious. The different sections (or 'rooms') can either be on the same level or on top of one another like a multistoried building. It is extremely uncommon and inadvisable to have more than two stories in a guinea pig hutch.
Regardless of which type of hutch you decide on, it's recommended that you avoid building it entirely with wood. Instead, you should build it on a wooden frame but with wire mesh for the walls. The only exception to this is if you live in extreme weather conditions; in this case, you might want to construct the hutch entirely with wood but with a wire-mesh door for ventilation.
The roof of the hutch should be sloping away from the front and made of wood. For the floor, avoid using wire as it can be harsh on your guinea pig's paws. Instead, use durable wood but make sure you have very good fleece or hay bedding when you put your pig in there. Otherwise, your cavy's droppings will be really hard to clean and the whole hutch will smell really bad. It might also lead to infections for the pig.
When you're ready to start building, draw a clear blueprint of what the hutch will look like. Then have the wood and wire cut out to fit the dimensions. Begin assembling it from the ground up but leave out the legs for later. You can fit these finally when you're done with the roof.
Good luck!

If you work or go to school the whole day who likes to have a pet but still undecided on what pet will you be choosing, a guinea pig is best for you. They likes to be alone in the day since most of them are inactive during daytime but still can survive for as long as they are with another guinea pig companion. They can survive in both indoors and outdoors for as long as you keep them in cages with several rooms. Unlike other pet rodents, they require more sensitive care. Also, the materials used in caring them are quite expensive. But, they can live more years compared to other pet rodents.
What makes them popular among all rodents today is that they have a unique character that every pet owner will enjoy. They are also sweet, require care less often, attractive and they often come in variety of colors. They are sociable and playful also that is why it is best if they will come in pair if you plan on taming this rodent. In pairing, it is best if you will pair the same sexes since if you will keep the male and female guinea pigs together, they will continuously breed and the male one might injure the pregnant guinea pig especially if you are clueless of its pregnancy. Male and female guinea pigs should be separated even though your purpose is to breed them and should only be exposed together in shorter period to mate. Also, one of them should be younger or older than the other so that they will live harmoniously.
If you have pet rabbits at home, it is not recommended to make them your pets' companion. It is because, even though rabbits have similar characteristics with guinea pigs, rabbits are so playful that they might jump using their powerful legs and might hit or cause serious injury to your pets. So it is best to separate them even the smallest breed of rabbit is not advisable. Also, in terms of expressing their communication, rabbits tend to have a different means of communication unlike guinea pigs who communicate well. That is why the best companion for them is still an additional guinea pig.
When making a choice on what guinea pig to tame, a cage should be considered first since this is the place where you will be keeping them for a long time. Next, during selection in pet stores, inspect the condition of the cage since faulty keeping of these rodents inside a dirty cage can cause serious illness to them without being noticed. If you observed that the cage is so dirty, it is better to buy in other pet stores. The cage should offer them instant access on their water and food. The cage should not be overcrowded with guinea pigs because it increases risk for injury to them. Lastly, they should look healthy like having a firm body, bright eyes, clean coat, and alert and should be free from other unusual observations such as sticky eyes, dirty bottom, sneezing and sleepiness. They are also ideally at least 6-8 weeks of age before choosing them.

Before you buy a cage for your guinea pig, lets talk about what your cage will need.
Guinea Pigs will need a few toys and one or more small 'hidey houses' to hide and play in. When you consider this it is important to be aware of the size of cage your piggy will need. You want the little guy to be able to run and scurry around comfortably, having plenty of space for his or her toys and house(s). Cages for guinea pigs should NOT have mesh flooring. Their nails can get caught resulting in injury and is very uncomfortable. The cage does not need a lid as guinea pigs do not climb up the sides, so the cage should be open on the top. However, if you have other pets, such as cats or dogs, who could possibly do harm to your cavy even if they were just playing, a top would be required. Cats and dogs are larger than guinea pigs by a lot, and even if they are only trying to play with your piggy, they could seriously injure him or her.
The hidey house is like your piggy's own personal home. It is a small hiding place where they can scurry in and feel safe. Every guinea should have at least one, if not more, hidey houses in there cage. Be aware, though, that most of these houses are made of wood and the piggies love to chew on them so it is important to replace them once they are too chewed up to hide in. They will usually choose to chew on the houses over their chew toys, so do not worry, its normal. If you have more than one cavy, you should always have one extra hidey house for the number of guineas. Say you have 2 guinea pigs, you will want to have 3 houses. This allows for a neutral area and will be helpful in keeping the peace between them. Have at least one wooden house, and then you can get a little more creative and make some more hiding places for your piggy.

Selecting a Hamster
Hamster care is not a difficult thing, and the little fellows don't take up much room. They are clean little animals and they don't cost much to maintain. Each hamster has its own personality, even though their personalities aren't as strong or independent as dogs or cats. If you handle hamsters correctly, and often, they can be lovable and friendly.
Before you rush off to pick out a hamster, you need to get your home ready for him. Make sure you have a hamster cage or terrarium that is large enough for him. In that vein, a barred cage will make for a much happier hamster, since more air circulates and they can feel a part of the goings-on in your home. Make sure that if you plan to select a dwarf hamster, that the bars on your cage are close enough together than he can't sneak out.
Be careful what kind of bedding you buy for your hamster. Care must be taken not to purchase pine or cedar bedding. Newspaper is bad for them, too, since they might react to the inks used in them. Purchase a marked bag of hamster bedding, or visit a nearby mill and check what days they're cutting woods other than pine or cedar. You may be able to fill a trash bag for free, and it will last you a long time. But if you're not sure what kind of wood it is, don't use it. Buy a bag at the pet store that's marked.
Place your hamster water bottle low enough on the cage that your hamster can reach it with no trouble. Make sure it doesn't leak, and check the ball on the spout to make sure it's working.
A small dish will be suitable for food, unless you are getting a pair of hamsters. If you get two, use a larger bowl or two small ones, to avoid fighting over food. Hamster food is available boxed at the pet store. Unless you are an advanced owner, it's better to use this balanced diet than to try to make your own. If you plan to supplement their food with fresh fruit or veggies, remember that too much sugar is bad for their health, so feed veggies more often than fruits.

They should be fed a specially formulated food mix to ensure proper nutrition. An occasional treat might include a piece of wheat bread, or fresh fruit and vegetables. Avoid all junk foods and especially all sugar -- including white bread and most breakfast cereals -- to prevent the development of diabetes. Healthy, high-protein snacks -- such as crickets and meal worms -- may be given in small quantities. Supplements of calcium or Nutri-Cal should be periodically added to the diet. Ceramic bowls are preferable to plastic to prevent the leaching of toxins. Many flowers are poisonous, but dandelion greens are easy to identify and, when thoroughly rinsed, add a healthy raw food dimension to the diet. In addition, a wire mesh hopper may be used to offer lab blocks.
They also require abundant fresh water, with bottles being the preferred delivery method over bowls. Water should be kept fresh by changing it at least weekly. When traveling, the water bottle should be removed from the cage to prevent its coming dislodged, or dripping. To prevent dehydration of your pet while in transit, provide a piece of fresh fruit or vegetable that has a high water content, such as a morsel of melon or cucumber.
Because of their small size, they may require special housing, such as an aquarium, due to its ability to squeeze through the bars of a normal hamster cage. A ten-gallon tank is ideal, because it allows for structures and toys. Hamster accessories might include a wooden house to chew on and sleep in, an exercise wheel, rope swings, branches and interconnected PVC pipe tunnels to simulate the natural habitat. Hay, paper and aspen shavings are all acceptable bedding materials, but pine and cedar should be avoided, as they may lead to severe allergic reactions.
Once the habitat is set up properly -- situated away from drafts, with plenty of fresh water, appropriate food and interesting chew toys -- Russian Winter White Dwarf Hamsters need very little extra care. For the connoisseur, the Russian Winter White Dwarf Hamster makes an excellent pet.

Do your chickens require more space in their coop? Are the chicken coops on the market just too much for your budget? If this is the case, then I highly recommend building your own chicken coop.
By doing so, you will not only be able to customize and add your own preferences into your chicken coop plans, but it will help you save money. It's definitely not hard to find tips and tricks to build chicken coops. As a matter of fact, you will most probably find plenty of guides about them on the internet. However, a lot of them are not specific about the prices.
This makes it very hard to estimate the amount of money that you will need to spend. Did you know that there are a lot of ways you can cut costs by building your own chicken coop? For example, you could purchase materials of a lower grade. They usually perform similar functions and will not affect the durability of your chicken house in any way.
History has proven that chicken coops have been built since the times of the Roman Empire. Even though many of them are available on the market featuring stunning designs and beautiful interior, many people still preferred to build one instead of purchase one.
It is also a known fact that build your own chicken coop will cost you less than 50% of what it will take for you to purchase one. The idea of buying your own chicken coop might seem to be an easier option but did you know that you still have to assemble the parts? Imagine having to invest all that time and energy into something that you spent so much money for. Why not get it done for half that price and energy?
The most important thing that you need to be sure of before you can build your own coop is the amount of chickens that you are planning to have. Try and figure out how big you think they will grow. If your chickens are extremely healthy and are growing larger, you may want to invest in a bigger coop, one that provides your chickens with plenty of space for nesting and also a strong exterior to protect your chickens from predators and harsh weather conditions.
