It’s a good time of year for a swim, isn’t it? I still can’t fit that bikini, though. I’m starting to think it must be my age. My mother always said sitting around doing my studies would lead to my age turning on me someday. I guess my late night shift isn’t exercise either, but I can’t ask mom that.
Maybe I should start some kind of routine. But that would need free time, wouldn’t it? Sorry mom and sorry bikini, this girl has money to make. And a diet to find.
#pi:diary#pi:closed#((when I was working I had similar trouble with exercise time XD))#((my school has a really nice gym so it feels good to exercise :D))

[♫] — He nods slowly, trying not to let his expression shift as she asks her next question. All he knew was that the strange magic had come from Evelyn, but Ayame was right– it had to have been bigger than a person’s magic, because as far as he knew Evelyn didn’t have that gift. Still, he was hesitant to reveal her involvement in the incident, and so he remains vague enough to keep her in the clear, while giving Ayame the information she needed.
“Not really… it had– it had come from a person, as this dark, smoke-like substance and then just… rose into the sky. The next day, that dark weather started.” Belatedly, he remembers to add. “The person it came from… I didn’t know them. Couldn’t see them all that clearly either, since it happened at night.”
Someone Max didn’t know was unlikely to be known by Ayame either, given Max’s social status. This made considering potential suspects even harder, but Ayame didn’t blame Max for that. He was a trustworthy man, after all, so she had no reason to doubt him.
“Whatever it was, it sounds like it definitely had to do with magic,” she pulled out a list of medications and their order numbers, “either that or multiple forest fires at once,” she joked. Skimming through the list, she came across some medications that, while they would not cure the likely magic-related ailment, could at least help temporarily. “Is there any irritation or burning in your eyes right now? Or has there been since the incident?”

Lillie loved the Flower Festival! Being an Arcadian-born girl, she had great appreciation for plants and nature, and had been incredibly saddened to see that Leuda didn’t have much in the way of that when she first moved here. No one on this island really cared much for plants or nature, from what she could tell, let alone the language and meanings associated with flowers.
She was excited to get the chance to spread that knowledge to some of her friends, and decided that she would gift a flower to every person she was physically able to– starting with all of her co-workers down at her new workplace, the Leuda Broadcasting Station.
This place was Lillie’s dream job, and even though she was the newbie of sorts, everyone here was so friendly and supportive towards her! That’s why, once she got to work that morning, she passed out a blue lisianthus to every person she saw in the station, giving them a merry greeting of, “Happy Flower Festival~! ♪” As she does so.
Ayame’s late night television job was a breath of fresh air away from the daily grind at the clinic. It was still a “grind,” just in a difference sense of the word. She loved the creative freedoms of such a late night slot, but what she loved even more was the people she worked with.
So when one of her colleagues gifted her with a flower for the festival, Ayame is pleasantly surprised.
“Thank you so much, Lillie!” She smiled and lightly twirled the flower in awe and admiration of its beauty. “It’s so pretty!”

Before his trip to Elise’s hotel room, he made sure to stop by the doctor’s office. He didn’t work that day - at least, not until later, at his other job - but he was fairly certain that Ayame did work that day. So, leaving Elise’s dozen red roses with the front desk for now, he headed to his boss’s office, his other bouquet in hand. It consisted of yellow roses, blue irises, and blue lisianthus - perfect to convey his feelings of admiration and gratitude towards the doctor who helped him bring out the best in himself… in a very platonic sense. He peeked his head into her office.
“Ayame, may I speak with you for a moment?”
The sleepiness that accompanied the nice weather helped in getting Ayame stuck in a yawn. She thought that the quiet slow day would prevent any interruptions in finally finish that yawn, but Hiro’s voice caught her by surprise. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to see him, but she felt a little guilty for being in this tired state while he had something probably very important to discuss with her, so she had to be at her most careful to not come off as bored.
“Hey, Hiro,” she greeted him with the most energetic wave she could do. “What do you need, kiddo?”

Summer is approaching faster than I would like it. Maybe it’s bad for a doctor to have concerns about being “beach body ready” when I tell my patients staying healthy is a key to being fit, but I’m really hoping I can trim down a little to avoid the “older women” section of swimwear. Hours of desk work can’t be good for a fitness program, so maybe this is my excuse to take time off.
“Excuse me, patients, but I want to fit in my bikini from last year. Please understand.” Doesn’t sound right at all. I can always pick up one of those hour long fitness VHS tapes. Oh my goddess, they don’t make VHS anymore. I really am old.

[♫] — “Erm… well. I’m sure you’re aware of how the sky has been unnaturally dark over the course of the last few weeks?” He honestly wondered if they would ever be able to see the sun again. “That strange magical phenomena, originating from Arcadia?”
Max pauses, and then sighs. “Well… I was actually there, when it begun. When the cause of this was unleashed.” He taps the area right under his eye, making sure not to mention Evelyn’s involvement. “I was attacked by some strange dark magic at the time, and my eyesight here has been off ever since. I also fell rather awkwardly–and harshly–on my shoulder, so…”
He hoped that as a person who originally lived in Arcadia, she would have some insight on this magical affliction of his at the very least. If not, then he supposed he would have to go see a doctor over there himself.
If Ayame hadn’t had firsthand experience with the affects of magic herself, she might have had a hard time believing him. She thinks about how many Leudans and Mainlanders there were that didn’t believe in the existence of magic at all, let alone its risks and benefits. That immediately leads to the disappointment in remembering a combination of low rune energy, age, and her neglect of her studies in magic might not help Max nearly as much as Ayame wishes it does.
Instead of dwelling on those worries and possibly transferring them to her patient, she continues asking questions to narrow down as many causes as she can. Hopefully, they would lead to something easily treatable.
“Falling on the shoulder would certainly make it sore, we’re both sure of.” A fall on the shoulder was the easiest to mend, so that out of the way leaves the discussion of magic. “So you were in the presence of what darkened the entire sky? Were you able to see what it looked like? Where the magic came from, that is? It wouldn’t be hard to track down who caused it if it were a person; then reversing it probably wouldn’t be a problem. But this sounds a lot bigger than a person’s magic, though.”

When his name was called, Russell stood and walked over with a smile. “Not long at all, doctor.” He was really hoping for the cast to come off soon and hoped that would be the case with this visit or the next one. It had been a few weeks now.
“How has your day been,” he asked amicably, waiting to be led back to whatever room their appointment would take place in.
That was a relief. Ayame never liked proving the “late doctor” stereotype right, because it wasn’t fair to her patients to keep them waiting when they were in need. Although sometimes it could not be helped, punctuality was as much of a virtue as patience. Patients and patience sounded the same, didn’t they? Ayame smiled a little at that realization until she finally snapped back to reality.
“It’s been a little slow, to be honest, but going well.” She shrugged. “But that just means people must be taking good care of themselves.” She waved her arm forward to signal for Russell to follow her to a clean examination room. “Speaking of care, are you caring well for your arm? The cast can only do so much, you know?” She took a close look up and down the cast-covered arm. “But it looks like you’re well aware of that.”

He flinched when he heard Ayame’s voice. He knew he probably wasn’t supposed to be using work computers for personal hobbies. He just didn’t have a computer of his own at home and tended to only go to libraries to study. The thought of going to a library for anything else sounded… well, rude. And foolish, considering how much school work he tended to have now that he was in his fifth year of college. He would have stopped with his bachelor’s had he not wanted to become a doctor. Ah, well. It was what it was.
He smiled sheepishly at his boss. “A-ah, not yet, no… They’ve made all the potential brides so sweet and charming that it’s hard to choose one. I know I am allowed two save files, but I do not want to start my second until I finish my first, you know?”
He remembered that it was Ayame who got him into this series. Sure enough, it was good for relaxation and learning even just a bit of the difficulties being a farmer and associating with other people. That’s why he couldn’t help but ask her the same question.
“And you, Ayame? Have you chosen a husband-to-be yet?”
Hiro’s observation of the potential brides reminded Ayame a lot of her own first time playing a game in the genre. There weren’t nearly as many marriage choices, only three; four with the Special Edition, but the choice was almost just as difficult. If only there were ever enough save slots to marry them all, but then there would be the trouble picking which save to play. Ayame never expected that, even as a doctor, video games were still part of her most serious decisions.
“It was easy this time” She winked, as if she assumed Hiro could already guess. “The doctor, of course! I guess after years of school surrounded by nothing but medical students adjusted my preferences a little.” She sighed. “Not to mention the other candidates look so young. They make me feel old.”

Either the groundhog really saw his shadow or something is wrong. It’s still so dark. It’s a good thing walking is Leuda’s most common means of transportation, otherwise we’d be in real trouble.
Patients are still coming in with ailments related to this drop in sunlight, mostly vitamin D deficiencies. This isn’t good for anyone’s health, even if the pollen count and risks of sunburn are low, I have to say this darkness is worse.
Someone needs to fix this. I would if I could, but my beginner’s healing magic has no relation to the sun. Back to the drawing board?

[♫] — The way Ayame went straight to the heart of the matter was not surprising to Max, though he did wish she hadn’t noticed so… quickly. It seemed his talent for putting on faces and acts was starting to dull with age. He swears– he had a much better poker face when he was younger.
“Well… no, to tell you the truth, I’m not.” He admits, cutting the cheerful act. Physically, emotionally… Max honestly hasn’t felt quite himself for quite a while now. “I came to check up on some issues I’ve been having as of late. The sight in one of my eyes has worsened… and my shoulder’s been aching terribly.”
Poor eyesight and aching shoulders; Ayame would hate to break it to him that those are common signs of aging, but she doesn’t want to jump to any conclusions yet. For all she knows, this could be something serious.
“I see.” She nodded in thought. “When did these symptoms start? Can you tell me if there was anything different about the day they happened?”

When Hiro was growing up, he never imagined he would like video games. They all seemed so.. .competitive. And violent. He wanted something peaceful and happy. And everyone said all the games like that - the “simulation games”, as they called them - weren’t fun at all. Had it not been for Ayame, Hiro never would have given video games a shot.
And yet here he was at the clinic, relaxing after work and playing a video game. It was a new one, a sequel to the last game he was playing. It was about being part of community by running a farm, just like the last game was. But the characters were all new, and the character customization was expanded. It was really nice.
There was just one problem.
“They have made it so hard to choose a bride…” he complained softly to himself as he looked at the work computer, scrolling through a fanmade site for the new game.
During the medical center’s down time, which was a rarity in itself, it was hard to decide on activities to pass the free hours before any appointments, give or take the potential for any emergencies. Ayame had been working there a long time, and even she lacked a solid plan for how to have some fun for an hour or two.
Seeing Hiro so relaxed in what he was doing made her a little envious, but he was so young and it was only natural to be so fast in picking something fun up. This time it was a new game that just came out; a new game Ayame admitted to sneaking to play late at night when she should have been doing the endless studying that followed her into a full-time career even after medical school.
“Needing help with the new game, kiddo?” She leaned against a nearby wall. “It doesn’t feel so long ago since I had to rely on magazines for help, it’s impressive these are so organized. Have you picked someone to marry yet?” She lightly teased.

@ayame-dreamer;
It had been some time since Russell’s discharge from the hospital. He still had on his cast, allowing the burned skin on his back to heal without interference and keeping his shoulder muscles and back in an optimal position. He had been particularly careful in the process and, through healing magic, had sped up his recovery in a remarkable manner, but it still needed time to heal. Which was what brought him back to the hospital to see Dr. Ayame for his physical therapy.
Russell waited outside the doctor’s office patiently, slowly flexing his right hand and feeling the muscles move along his arm. As he had learned since being discharged, there was no feeling in his back, only numbness, and there never would be anything but. Third-degree burns were like that. In the long list of injuries he had suffered, this seemed right on par with the worst of it from his time as a soldier.
The door creaked open and Russell looked up, wondering if she was ready for his appointment.
“Russell?”
A physical therapy appointment. It wasn’t everyday Ayame had one schedule, but maybe that was because most patients were aware they might undo all that work by running back to the mines and getting themselves hurt again. Russell’s responsibility in this situation gave her a lot less to worry about, so that was something to be thankful for.
“Are you here for your appointment?” She waved with a calm smile. “I hope I didn’t keep you waiting too long.”

[♫] — Ever since finding Evelyn that night, Max had been feeling rather… strange.
And by strange he meant that the sight in one of his eyes had deteriorated greatly, and most of everything looked like nothing more than one huge blur through it. He tried glasses and contacts and the like to no avail– no matter what he did, nothing worked! His left eye was perfectly fine, but there was nothing that could be done for his right one. The one that had gotten hit by that dark, blackened mist that had come from Evelyn’s body. Just… what exactly had that been?
Judging by the increasingly darkening skies over the last few days, and the report made by the Guild, it was some sort of magic. Max didn’t quite understand magic… it was always a mystery to him. Intriguing. Something that he wished he could learn more about someday.
But when it was capable of things like messing up his eyesight, blotting out the sun, and randomly burning down several buildings, the blonde seriously began to reconsider that line of thinking.
Before he fully realizes it, he’s in the lobby of the Alpha Medical Center, staring right into the face of the woman he had been searching for. Ayame was a knowledgeable and talented doctor, who had originally been from Arcadia if he remembered correctly. Surely she would know how to deal with this ridiculous magic that plagued his sight so.
And if not, then he was sure she would be able to take care of his shoulder. It had also been aching, ever since he awkwardly landed on it during that night.
“Miss Aya, I know I called in for an appointment, but I didn’t expect a greeting right at the door!” He teases, putting on a casual smile in spite of his inner worries. “I’m flattered that you would go to the trouble to do something like that for little old me.”
Spring was just around the corner, and in other years, that would have meant the people of Leuda started becoming more active and benefiting from the sunlight, but this year something crucial was missing: the sun. It was no surprise there were more appointments made recently, and she had to be on top of everything if she was going to maintain a good watch on people’s health.
When Max walked in, Ayame at first raised her hand to wave, but realized something was up when he kept moving forward. She could already tell something was a problem.
She wants to laugh in response to his humor, but her concern overcomes that intention.
“Max, are you feeling okay? I guess I shouldn’t be asking, since you made an appointment, but something’s not quite right here.”

It’s that time of year again: SAD, cold, flu, dry scalp, and painful reynaud’s symptoms season!
It’s one of the busiest times for the medical center, so busy I’ve had to take time off from work at the broadcasting station just to finish up a prescription for generic Head & Shoulders shampoo.
I can’t complain, though. All this extra work is funding my Christmas presents for my parents and Paolo. I still need to ask the little guy if he still believes in Santa Claus. I’d hate to stop the magic early!

“Lingerie?” Marla liked beautiful things, puffing up her cheeks into a pout she spoke as clearly as she could muster with her face in blow fish form. “Why wouldn’t -uman lingery be a goo idea? You don think it would suit me?”
Staring up at the woman with puppy dog eyes, Marla thought over the things she suggested as a mermaid substitute, She didn’t understand how a lot of those things would stay on her body, especially with the changing currents. “What does waterproof mean?”
“No, not at all. I think you could pull it off quite well if you can spend some time on land.” Ayame quickly waved her hands as to signal she meant no offense by her comment. “It’s just the material is usually so thin, I think it might slip right off while you’re swimming. It’s usually not supposed to come off until someone you love and trust takes it off for you.” She chuckled, although that topic was for another time.
“Waterproof?” She tapped her cheek with her thumb. “That just means it won’t wash off from the water. A lot of paints aren’t because when humans get paint on their skin, we usually want to wash it off.”
