If there’s one place that truly transports you back in time, it’s Hampi. Nestled in Karnataka, this UNESCO World Heritage site is a treasure trove of history, culture, and stunning landscapes. My recent trip to Hampi was nothing short of magical, and I can't wait to share the experience!

The ArrivalWe took an overnight train from Bangalore to Hospet, the nearest railway station to Hampi. As soon as we arrived, the rustic charm of the place was evident. From Hospet, a quick auto ride brought us to Hampi, and the first glimpse of the massive boulders and ancient ruins left us awestruck.

Exploring the RuinsHampi is an open-air museum. The ruins of the Vijayanagara Empire are spread across the town, and every corner has a story to tell. Our first stop was the iconic Virupaksha Temple, where we were greeted by Lakshmi, the temple elephant! The intricate carvings and centuries-old structures were breathtaking. We then rented bicycles and rode through the ruins of the Vittala Temple, famous for its stone chariot and musical pillars. The sheer grandeur of these structures makes you wonder about the glorious past of this ancient city.

Sunset at Matanga Hill One of the highlights of our trip was climbing Matanga Hill for the sunset. The panoramic view of Hampi from the top was surreal. The golden hues of the setting sun over the Tungabhadra River and the vast ruins were mesmerizing.

Local Delights Hampi has a vibrant café culture catering to travelers from around the world. We stopped at the Mango Tree Café, a popular spot known for its relaxed vibe and delicious food. Sipping on fresh coconut water while enjoying a plate of local thali was the perfect way to unwind.

A Journey to Remember Hampi isn’t just a place; it’s an experience. Whether you're a history buff, a backpacker, or just someone looking for a peaceful getaway, this place has something for everyone. Like the time I stopped at a tiny roadside tea stall in the mountains, where the chai was somehow the best I’ve ever had, and the old man running the shop told stories of his village with a warmth that made me feel like I belonged there. Or the time I got lost in a narrow alley in an unfamiliar city and ended up finding a cozy bookstore that I never would’ve known existed.

Travel reminds us how big the world is—and how much of it we haven’t yet seen. It teaches patience when plans go wrong, joy in the simplest moments, and a sense of connection even in places where we don’t speak the language.

MIDNIGHT VISITOR

Our journey begins….

It was a pleasant evening during my summer vacation, my cousins ​​came to stay at my house. Spending time with your cousins ​​is one of the best things in life. It’s always great to get together, share stories and create lasting memories. Me, Tom, Emma, ​​Ruby. We are "4 people" and we all have a unique bond. We went to the movies, played games, night drives. 2 to 3 days passed, one day when we were all sitting in the backyard playing carom, and suddenly Emma said "Our holidays are getting boring, let's do something fun". Then I told them that we needed to plan something interesting and make it happen. That night we sat around and began our conversation. Everyone was giving their suggestions, and all of a sudden Ruby showed me a YouTube video. It shows people exploring abandoned places. Everyone loves the idea Ruby showed. Emma said it would be fun and memorable, and we should do it. Then we started to search for abandoned places near us. Everybody was excited about making it happen. We kept on searching, we ordered food and had that, and started to search again. That night we had a lot of fun. The next morning after breakfast we began to search again. At last, finally, we got a place, credits go to Tom he always had an interest in archaeology. His dream is to become an archaeologist. The location is known as Yorktown Memorial Hospital and is abandoned. We currently reside in Houston, the city in which we were raised. There is about 163 miles (263 km) to Yorktown from our town.

Everyone was interested in road trips, I could see the interest on their faces. We decided to take our car as a way of transport because the bus ride would be boring. Then our next step is to plan our route. We took the help of Google Maps to get accurate directions to our destination.

Starting our journey

On the next day, we decided to make this trip unforgettable. We packed our bags and cooking utеnsils in the car's trunk, gave the car a good washing and added gasolinе. We said our goodbyеs to our familiеs, knowing thеy would not bе plеasеd that wе wеrе going to a hauntеd location. Our goal was to explore the haunted places in Yorktown and experience supernatural phenomena that are often rumoured but seldom witnessed. Emma, however, remained sceptical about the existence of such supernatural powers or anything related to horror. She firmly believed that it was all superstition. In contrast, I had always held a belief in the existence of these supernatural forces.

Our journey officially commenced, and we relished the camaraderie between us. We set off from Houston, heading for Yorktown, journey is about 163 miles (263 km) to Yorktown from our town. That would require about 3 to 4 hours of driving, according to traffic conditions. We started our journey at 8 a.m. Our plan was to reach Yorktown at night take some rest at the motel and get set ready to explore the next day. As the journey began the climate was clouds were clear and sunny day. After some time it began to feel cloudy, at first, we thought our road trip would get ruined because of the rain, but we all enjoyed the rain. After one hour of driving, we took for our breakfast stop, it was a small town named Kendleton. we all had tea and morning breakfast.

We finally arrived at our destination, Yorktown, after driving for 3-4 hours. It was about 4 p.m. when we got there, and the weather was gloomy with rain falling heavily. Our hotel, which was located about 3 km outside the town, was our next stop. We stopped at a nearby supermarket to buy some food and medicine. As the weather worsened and the sky darkened, we quickly paid for our items and rushed back to our car. It was then that Tom realized we were low on fuel, but Emma remembered seeing a gas station nearby. Without worrying about the bad weather, Tom turned the car around and drove to the gas station.

The gas station was foggy and looked abandoned, Tom stopped the car and started to fill the gas, but suddenly we heard some creepy noise from the gas station store. Emma stepped out of the car to check for the sound. Tom had just completed filling the tank, had placed the nozzle back, and had started the car when Ruby suddenly rushed and told Emma to return. "Everyone enters," Tom added. Tom sped the car when he noticed an old woman standing next to our vehicle after we started driving. The lady looked creepy and scary.

Then we rushed to the hotel that we booked early, we checked in freshened up and went straight to bed. We then rushed to the early-booked hotel, and we checked in, showered, and immediately went to bed. We were exhausted once we woke up in the early morning the following day. We gathered our things and set off for our destination.

After 30 minutes of driving, we reached our destination. We climbed over a wall and entered the hospital grounds. Initially, we did not sense any supernatural presence outside. We discovered an entrance door, which surprisingly was unlocked, granting us access to the hospital. We proceeded inside, and a path led us to the main hall. There, we found many wheelchairs, Tom had his Meter Magnetic Field Detector it began to beep, guiding us to ICU situated on the top floor. After a moment of hesitation, we gathered up the courage to go up the stairs.

We started snapping pictures and recording films after setting our backpacks inside the space. I thought I saw the faint outline of an elderly woman at that very time, but it disappeared so fast that I wrote it off as a trick of the mind.

Together, we looked throughout the hospital, checking out different rooms. Finally, we found ourselves in a room where the lights were suspiciously on. When we went inside to check if anyone was there, the space was quiet. We abruptly heard a child's cries of, "Help me!!!" At this point, we both acknowledged the existence of supernatural forces, proving that the location was, in fact, haunted. Panic set in as we realized we had been trapped in the hospital and we had to retrieve our backpacks. We nervously returned to the room where our bags were located. We hastily gathered our belongings and made a run for it. Unfortunately, in our haste, we lost our torch lights, and the phone battery is going to die plunging us into darkness. Our only source of light was the moon’s reflection on the hospital which enabled us to make our way to the exit. We sprinted outside and raced to the car, Tom started the engine, and everyone put their backpacks in the trunk of the car and quickly seated, Tom rushed the car out of the hospital.

After a few hours of driving, we stopped the car and relaxed for a while had some tea and talked about our experiences. Then I took the wheel, Tom needed some rest and headed back to our house.
