I wanted to share pictures of my mini painting projects, and Twitter is effectively dead, so back to Tumblr I go.

It's the first game day at the learn to play league and my Terminators are ready. Tabletop ready at any rate. I certainly want to come back and add more detail later, but if I'm going to have any semblance of a painted army in 2 weeks, I have to pick up the pace and ignore the details.
Picture not included: My all black infernus Squad. Some might say that I only got as far as priming them black, but I assure you that it's an artistic representation of the amount of soot and smog generated by their flamers.

I've been wanting to collect Tyranids I started 40k a year ago, and the Leviathan Box has pushed me to try and figure out how I want to paint them. Trying to lean into the naming conventions of the existing hive fleets for inspiration, my brain, for some dumb reason, said...
Hive Fleet Kappa
Most of the depictions of kappa I've seen have been derpy tortoise looking dolls how wouldn't hurt a fly, so this idea seemed absurd. The more I looked into this yokai, though, the more I liked the idea. Which is also terrifying, given the obvious customization such a hive fleet would need. A bowl of water on every head.
So I present to you all a badly 3d printed and customized hormagaunt. I think this convinced me to give up the idea (for now) and look elsewhere, but I also needed to share.

Half a year later and the need to share my work finally pushed me back here. I need to stop thinking like a content creator for these posts.
I got my first airbrush! It's a cheapo, but it comes with a pocket-sized compressor that only felt too loud because my neighbors above me were also on their balcony. I'm confident enough to take it inside next time and not make a mess.

Nothing special for lore now, just sharing my cryptothralls, Mittens and Snowball.

Turinmos is the softest member of the court of the Daiyoth Dynasty. Necrons can no longer feel love, so his pride in his creations takes that place. From the looming Doom Stalkers to the smallest scarab, every centimeter of his work is important to him. He embodies the Szarekhan artisan mastery.
My technomancer was introduced late enough in the escalation league that I put in far less effort than the character does. You can even see in the side view that the bottom of the staff only has the undercoat.

Managed to paint up some friggin' pastel Easter ghosts. So much for gothic horror.

Aidatek did not have much respect for life, even before the biotransference. She considers herself to be a cold and calculating scientist, but she takes joy in inflicting the living with physical and psychological harm, noting minutiae in reactions from various unpleasant stimuli. It's a shame then that the only thing psychomancers have going for them is the Atavindicator.
I love the serpentine tendrils on this model and felt that my standard cracked desert base would not have done it justice. Instead, I used milliput to try and sculpt sand having been pushed around by the tendrils rearing up for an attack. This also allowed me to hide the tendril I broke trying to straighten her out on her base.

My local friendly game store is running a painting contest on Malifaux crews. Kinda funny, considering they don't sell the core or starter boxes, but whatever. Of all the crews I have, Pandora is probably the easiest to play, so I've gone with her. Alongside upgrades and the Avatar of Nature's Wrath that I posted Saturday, I'll have a 50 soulstone crew.
I don't know how frequently I'll post updates on this, but it'll at least be weekly.

Tomorrow will be my "first" game of Malifaux. First is in quotes because A) I've played two solo matches against myself using proxies and B) the game tomorrow will be Malifaux Brawl. My LFGS is encouraging new people to come try it out, models will be provided, but they will also give a prize for best painted model. Well, how can I refuse a challenge?
I tried en grisaille and glazing for this one. It worked well on the tree, but I relied more on washes and highlights to get the skin done. First time painting skin and I feel I did alright.

Aros is the Phaeron of the lesser Daiyoth Dynasty. Something of an artificer in his own right, he leads squads of warriors into battle with a Staff of Light and Orb of Eternity.
I have to say gameplay wise I find the overlords lacking. They are not durable enough to be melee but with few resources to make them ranged combatants. They really seem to work best as support, which feels weird given the sheer incentive to go into melee with them. Without an orb, they just don't feel worth it.
I was hoping to kitbash my final overlord for the escalation league, but I just didn't have the time.

My Necron Royal Warden was the first HQ mini for my army and the first 40k HQ unit I painted.
I had already played with a couple of color schemes and painted my first 10 warriors by the time I got to her, but she feels like the first real step in my journey to 2k points.
Hopet has served the Daiyoth since its creation before the biotransference, and continues to lead its soldiers faithfully. The protocols and subroutines that bind her to her overlord see no use, so great is her devotion.

Figured I should actually start posting pictures of my mini painting.
This is Clatter, my Kenku Bard who focused on shadow puppetry and storytelling. Floating somewhere between neutral and evil, he sought to create a gang to control the flow of riches and intelligence in the underground of Waterdeep. He had no real plans or ambitions to accomplish with this network, this is just the sort of thing he should do, right?
