Last Friday’s Full Moon rising views from my bedroom. The moon has always enchanted me. Did you know symbolically it represents the feminine and the element of silver? Of course these photos don’t give it justice, but I still can’t resist. Someday perhaps I’ll have a camera and the skills to do the moon justice. Full moon rising Thursday evening. View from my bedroom window. The moon winks at me through the night. Oh this window with it’s many views. The sun rises to wake me. The evergreen we planted 27yrs ago is perch for hummers, finches, Hawk, cardinal and the robins that use it as a watchtower to protect his own from that hawk. A window has so much potential. May 1st 2020 and my mom would have been 100 years old today. How would she view 2020, I wonder. Always an introvert, she could also be the life of the party. She was ever so happy at the sewing machine and even the outfit she’s wearing in this picture was all made by her. She was ever so the fan of a three piece suit, things matching, covered buttons and wearing heels 👠 She loves music and often ended the day of housecleaning with all the lights turned on and spinning Glenn Miller or Dionne Warwick. She would start dinner and say let’s dance Pat. I was her Patty, her youngest and since my siblings were older I felt like the only child. She taught me so many valuable lessons about honesty and putting myself in another persons shoes because not everything is about me. She was born into a dirt poor family and raised in the city of Columbus in Ohio. Like so many children of the depression her fondest memories were going to the movies. Everyone called her Maxine or Max because she hated Ruth, her first name. As a kid she would let me stay up late and watch the old movies with her. I learned a lot about movie stars. She told me the cowboy and Indian movies were a farce, because it wasn’t the true history of how white men treated them. Maxine was a Rosie riveter during the war and grew up a strong and loving mother despite her father abandoning his young family for another woman. In spite of enduring a stepfather who tried to molest her and being taken away from her own mother. They were hard times and in the court if a man had a job they wouldn’t take away his income. She never whined or lingered on the hard days of youth. Instead she became the best she could be. I am ever ignited by her spirit and love of life. In this photo she’s almost 80 and that gleam in her eye continued til we lost her in 2004. Maxine, full of piss and vinegar was somewhat like the cartoon Maxine, and that makes me giggle a little. I’m so grateful God gave me 84yrs (2004)with her, even though the last few were pretty challenging for me. Every woman girl child needs to see this. I knew these mixed messages at 5 yrs old or younger. When I entered my first day of kindergarten I thought how scared I was, officially engaged with all the dynamics that were confusing to me, female and male roles, competition of the sexes, defining myself in a world that would define me, bind me not to what I wanted or needed but to a construct I really wanted no part of. I really didn’t want to be thrown into this world of stereotypes. Hello, I’m Trish and I thought I'd officially show my face for those of you that have never met the woman behind the curtain. I'm doing my best to share posts that will both stimulate your creativity while motivating you to shake off your own inhibitions and fears in doing so. We’ve finally solved our delivery challenges sending both to and from India and Ohio USA! My post has been delayed as have many things. Being away for some R & R for 3 weeks in Florida right before Christmas has really set me back. Then I’ve been dealing with some reactions to meds my Dr put me on and getting through the holidays sick has been very distracting. I finally opened our Christmas cards last night 🤦‍���️ 🤷‍♀️. The birth of a butterfly using fine silver metal clay. WIP, I fused the glass for the body then ground it to the size and shape I wanted. This is my interpretation of a Blue Swallowtail, with some of course artistic takes on the beauty. I don’t know why but when I do commissions for people I need to let my intuition design as I go. I still always hope they are moved by my vision. This is for a very special client that I’ve been working with for the last year in creating memoriam works for her family. I could have done a very simple and easy design of which I’m sure she’d also like. That’s not how I roll though when the inspiration hits I’m driven. More work to do and I’m digging the process. Soon this will fly to its new home adorning a loved mother’s neck. That’s all I’m sharing on this piece for now. I’ve been following #planterina for some time now because I’m impressed with their content and presentation on growing and caring for houseplants. Anyone that knows me and my history in the horticultural industry is familiar with the fact that normally I taught on sustainable Agriculture and gardening. My main focus was on native plants or at least ones that could be used for food medicine or had some type of functionality. Now I’m exploring this other realm of the plant world, specimen houseplants. When I knew Planterina would be launching a site to sell plants I was very excited. I still support my local garden centers, but there is no one place to find what I’m looking for. You can’t imagine how pleased I was when I saw Planterina had Hoya pubicalyx. That plant held a special place in my heart because before my mother died in 2004 she finally handed down to me the mother plant she had been gifted from her mother. She called it a wax or lipstick plant due to the flowers form. Unfortunately several years ago it became horrifically infested with mealy bugs and was too daunting of a task for me to tackle. I sacrificed the plant and though sad to let it go I learned my lesson that not all my houseplants needed to go outside in the spring. While some will flourish others like to stay where they are and outdoors mingled with annuals opened them up for pests brought home from other greenhouses. Maybe it’s silly that this plant still holds sentimental value to me, but every time I look at it I feel my mom. I’m so impressed with their plants and will be adding more to my collection! My classic statement ring! I call her approximately “Wasp Nest Ring”, and was a labor of time and patience. Thank you to a wasp nest, Metal Clay/Fine Silver in both paste and syringe form. Basically I sculpted this piece with the intention of setting the stones in staggered height for a dimensional feel, plus that’s how I like to play at pushing my creativity. I thought I’d tease with some finished fabrications I’ve done. I’m excited to be feeling better and back to work on my yet to be revealed project 🤫 I can give another hint it’s sculpting with Fine Silver Metal Clay with Cool Tool syringes of FS999 Fine Silver developed by Bill Struve, God Bless to him and RIP. This is how I like to keep my Fine Silver Metal Clay syringes, in a shot glass. It keeps them moist, while contact you the bottom of the glass acts as a plug so clay doesn’t leak out. The 26 gauge is handy for clogged tips. Can’t forget my favorite brushes number 4 & 1. So this is another hint about the work in progress I am not revealing yet.
