2024 was rather humbling. Looking back on it I don’t think I put enough emphasis on myself. That’s something I need to be better at as I think about the idea of “steady as she goes” not always being the right thing. Keep pushing, keep striving for more.

Richard Louis “Dick” Proenneke was a naturalist who lived alone for nearly thirty years in the mountains of Alaska in a log cabin he had constructed by hand near the shore of Twin Lakes. Proenneke hunted, fished, raised and gathered his own food, and sometimes had supplies flown in. He documented his activities in journals and on film.
There’s an amazing documentary about Richard Proenneke entitled Alone In The Wilderness. (Here’s a clip from it)

This is a “Penguin rover” used to study Emperor penguins in Antarctica.
It’s equipped with a spy cam to assist in studying these shy animals. Researchers found that approaching these emperor penguins normally would result in their heart rates rising, producing unreliable data.
This rover works very well, enough to even entice communication from the penguins. According to researchers the penguins were “very disappointed” when the rover didn’t respond, prompting the researchers to plan to have the rover playing penguin songs on it’s next trip.
