Civic Action Assessment of Issue
1.I see myself more as an activist because I am very one sided when it comes to my issue, and I want to do things to help my issue.
2. I have learned that it is very important to stay civically engaged not only because it is something you should do to help our country but because it is a given right as an American citizen to change our government.
3. Not only do I feel it is my obligation to help address the problems my civic action issue has created but it should be everyone’s, because we all live on Earth and we are all responsible for what we are doing to it.
4. I did not have time to volunteer but I really wanted to.
5. I have not been civically engaged but in the future I want to clean beaches or join a conservation group or do something along the lines that will help clean up our environment.

Executive Action Assessment of Issue
1.  Americans have long been told that our country is running out of energy, but we now know that is wrong. America’s energy revolution has produced affordable, reliable energy for consumers along with stable, high-paying jobs for small businesses—all while dropping carbon emissions to their lowest level in 25 years. American energy policy must balance environmental protection with economic growth in order to encourage innovation, discovery, and prosperity.
2. Yes I agree with his position, but I don’t see Mr. Trump doing these things.
3. DOE- Department of Energy
4. The mission of the Energy Department is to ensure America’s security and prosperity by addressing its energy, environmental and nuclear challenges through transformative science and technology solutions.
Yes it relates to my issue but it doesn’t focus on my personal concerns.
5. Rick Perry is the 14th United States Secretary of Energy. Earned a degree in Animal Science from Texas A&M University. Was the 47th Governor of Texas. I don’t think he is qualified for this job because he should focus more on energy and be an engineer. This was an obviously a political appointment. This will slow down improvement and innovation on my issue.
6. Office of ENERGY EFFICIENCY & RENEWABLE ENERGY, The mission of EERE is to create and sustain American leadership in the transition to a global clean energy economy. Its vision is a strong and prosperous America powered by clean, affordable, and secure energy.
7. I AM NOT SATISFIED because, Trump is not doing anything to move forward, it is obvious he appointed someone that is not credible to work in a energy and innovation field. I think Trump would cut funding. If he decreases funding it will completely stop the advancement of my issue.

Legislative Action
Jonathan Watts The Senate has not voted  1.a. Mark Desaulnier is a proud champion of policies that protect the environment and address climate change. He is a firm believer that strong and forward-looking energy and environmental policy is not the enemy of economic growth, but a key driver of growth, innovation, and competitiveness. Moreover, rigorous environmental enforcement and oversight is necessary to ensure proper protections of the health and well-being of all Californians.
Senator Harris supports the EPA and wants to improve our problems on climate change and air pollution. She also wants to decrease our carbon emissions.
Senator Feinstein says The United States needs a comprehensive, long-term plan to transition to a clean energy economy. Just as California leads the nation in pursuing clean energy, the United States should lead the world.Shifting to a clean energy economy will save consumers money, avoid the worst effects of climate change and reduce our dependence on foreign oil. As ranking member of the Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee, Senator Feinstein is making sure the United States invests in the research and development necessary to make this transition. She is in support for clean energy and wants the United states to start the transition.
b.Senator Desaulnier-  Healthy Climate and Family Security Act (H.R. 4889), to help zero emission, electric trucks compete alongside traditional diesel trucks (H.R. 4421). Senator Desaulnier has spoored many more bills that combat climate change.
Senator Harris-  S.3015Sponsored  — A bill to amend the Federal Water Pollution Control Act to establish a low-income sewer and drinking water assistance pilot program, and for other purposes.
Senator Feinstein-  National Parks and Recreation. In 2005, a Feinstein bill added 4,500 acres of pristine natural land to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and 25,500 acres to the Redwood National Park in Del Norte County.  As a result of Senator Feinstein’s Ten-in-Ten Fuel Economy Act, the Obama administration announced in 2012 that fuel economy must reach 54.5 miles per gallon for cars and light-duty trucks by 2025.
2.a. There are a lot of bills more or so around 15 to 20.
b. House Bill 5015
c. The bill tries to protect bees and other pollinators because they are accrual to help our environment.
d.  Bees and other pollinators under this act, people who use insecticides covered in this legislation, the EPA, the Department of the Interior, and the EPA Administrator.
e.I would say YEA, because Iv’e always agreed with protecting pollinators such as bees to help our environment.
f. House Bill 5015 originated in the House. House Committee on Agriculture Biotechnology, Horticulture, and Research have reviewed it. As of this moment it’s Not enacted, The Senate has not voted, and The House has not voted.
g. I am not that satisfied with the current Federal legislation on my issue because I think our government can do way more and can pass more bills relating to our issue.
3. Article https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/oct/08/global-warming-must-not-exceed-15c-warns-landmark-un-report
Subject- Climate Change
Author-  Jonathan Watts
Context- Gives facts and background information on climate change. It gives charts to help the reader understand the information.
Audience- People who want something done about climate change or someone who wants information on it. The author wants people to support him in that something has to be done.
Significance- To inform and try to sway people on the subject of climate change.
I agree because climate change is real issue and something has to be done, we should inform people on it and try to sway their opinion on it.

State Action
 1.
a. Assembly Member Baker- Cathrine Baker has the environment as one of her priorities. Wants to clean up what our past generations have done to the environment.
Senator Steve Glazer- Glazer is very pro-environment he wants to incorporate environmental protection as part of every decision.
b. I agree with both of their positions because I think the environment should be a priority in pour government.
c.  Senator Glazer sponsored, SB 835 (State Parks Smoking Ban) – Prohibits the use of smoking products of any kind at a unit of the state park system and make it an infraction punishable by a fine of up to $25.
Couldn’t find any on Baker
2.
a. AB-1683
b. February 17, 2017
c. 06/14/17Referred to Com. on RLS.
d. I strongly disapprove this bill it acts as a negative towards my issue. It wants to stop a program that is helping fight climate change. No, I wouldn't want my representatives supporting this bill, because it is totally against what I support and believe in.

The 3 P’s Assessment: Parties, Political Interest Groups, and PAC’s
1.
a. Republican Party- The Republican party wants to take a more business type of role and really doesn’t seem to care much about the actual environment.
Democratic Party- Democrats seem to want to really spend time, effort, and money into clean energy and helping climate change. They believe that clean air and clean energy is a right for all Americans
Libertarian Party- Libertarians wants to make the business part of energy and resources more about the people and not have the government involved. As for the environment, libertarians want to protect it and really change it for the better.
Green Party-  Greens want to stop runaway climate change, by reducing greenhouse gas emissions at least 40% by 2020 and 95% by 2050, over 1990 levels. The Green party thinks climate change is a very big deal and wants to do anything we can to make it better.
b. Republican position- No, I don’t agree with our environment being a business and all about money.
Democratic position- Yes, I agree with their statement that all Americans deserve clean air and clean energy.
Libertarian position- I am in the middle with this one because I feel like the government needs to get involved in order for actual change to happen.
Green position- I agree with the Greens because I think our environment is really precious and it's important to protect it.
c.I agree with the Democratic party the most because I think they have an equal balance of everything relating to the environment, climate change, and clean energy. I don’t think this is that surprising because I expected to like the Democratic position because I already knew it. I haven't looked much into their candidate so I don’t know all their positions on everything but if it depended on just their position about the environment, yes I would.
2. a. Clean Water Action
b.  Clean Water Fund's mission is to develop strong grassroots environmental leadership and to bring together diverse constituencies to work cooperatively for changes that improve their lives, focused on health, consumer, environmental and community problems.
c. They're 5 main issues they want to fix/improve on are, Water, Oil and Gas, Climate change and Clean energy, and waste.
d. Clean Water Action is proud to support Katie Porter and Harley Rouda for Congress. Both candidates are in Orange County; Porter and Rouda are running in Congressional District 45 and 48, respectively.
e.Washington DC. There are meeting opportunities in Oalkanls. (I have to sign up to know when).
f. Yes, people can volunteer in Oakland. (I have to sign up in order to see what they are).
g. I think it is cool that they actually are a big group and that I have not heard of them.
3.a. California Environment Justice Alliance
b. The California Environmental Justice Alliance is a statewide, community-led alliance that works to achieve environmental justice by advancing policy solutions.
c. There are three important things this interest group wants to achieve (sorry not 5) Climate Justice, Energy Equity, and Green Zones.
d. What is super interesting is the Green Zones projects, and how they want to expand it to major cities.
e. Oakland, CA and  Huntington Park, CA
f. Yes, There are protests you can attend.
g. I think it is interesting and smart that they have two locations one in North Cal and one in South Cal.
4. I think that both are very organized and professional but Clean Water Action is a bigger association and I feel like it makes a greater impact. Their target/audience is and their supporters are Democrats and anyone who is an environmentalist.
5.a.League of Conservation Voters
b.  The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) works to turn environmental values into national, state and local priorities. LCV, as part of the Conservation Voter Movement along our state LCV partners, advocates for sound environmental laws and policies, holds elected officials accountable for their votes and actions, and elects pro-environment candidates who will champion our priority issues.
c.  Total Receipts$2,513,386 Total Spent$2,528,242 Begin Cash on Hand$136,376
d. Republicans- $0 Democrats-  $564,357
e. It does not say who are the donors. I think this might say that they don’t really want to say who are their donors.

Constitutional Issues
 1.  Oil States Energy Services LLC v. Greene’s Energy Group, LLC
2.   Jun 12, 2017- Apr 24, 2018
3. Greens Energy Group, LLC won the case, Oil States Energy Service LLC was arguing over a patent, and Oil States invented a way of “fracking”  using mechanical lockdown mechanism instead of hydraulic pressure.
4. Does inter partes review violate the Constitution by depriving patent holders of their property rights without providing them a jury and an Article III forum?
5. Patent Act of 1870 and the Seventh Amendment.
6. 7–2 Decision For Greene’s Energy Group, LLC
7. The precedent that is established is that, Inter partes review, which authorizes the United States Patent and Trademark Office to reconsider and cancel an already-issued patent claim under 35 U.S.C. §§ 311-391, does not violate Article III or the Seventh Amendment of the Constitution.
8. I don’t agree with the case I think that if someone is to invent something the deserve full legal credit for it.

Subject- Climate Change and how it’s real
Author-  Fred Krupp
Context- Krupp give 3 main options that we can do to increase efforts to help regulate our climate.
Intended Audience- Anyone who believes in climate change or maybe he is trying to sway the right side.
Bias-There is biased but what Krupp is saying are facts. He is obviously on the side that something needed to happen to solve this issue.
The Significance- We humans need to protect our earth and take responsibility for what we have done to it. There are ways we can help regulate our climate.
Do I agree- Yes 100%, I think climate change is a real issue and we really aren’t doing anything to help it. It is important to preserve our earth and we should be so grateful for it and not take it for granted.

Media Assessment of Issue
Article #1- https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/06/climate/renewable-energy-push-is-strongest-in-the-reddest-states.html
Article #2- http://www.foxnews.com/world/2016/01/22/france-india-to-focus-talks-on-defense-deal-clean-energy.html
Article #3- http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/coming-terms-just-how-dangerous-trumps-pollution-plan
In article #1 the subject is how renewable energy is becoming more and more popular in states that are primarily pro Donald Trump. The author is, Justin Gillis and Nadja Popovich. The article talks about how in these states renewable energy and it’s popularity over these couple of years. I think that the intended audience is anyone interested in the topic and Democrats because I think NY Times is trying to educate the left on how Trump supporters can still be pro-clean energy. The perspective is pretty neutral the authors are just trying to educate people. The significance is that everyone should be working together instead of fighting with each other just because of their political opinion. Yes, I agree with the article because I have the same opinion, we should work together to protect our earth.
In article #2  the subject is how France and India are going to have a meeting to discuss issues about clean energy and a multibillion-dollar deal for combat airplanes and closer cooperation on counterterrorism. The author is the “Associated Press”. The context is hoe France has promised to support the efforts of India’s request for cleaner energy. The intended audience is the right wing because the article is very anti-terrorist rather than talking about clean energy. The perspective is very right-wing/conservative. The significance is to inform the public about the actions of France and India are taking to stop terrorism and to provide India with cleaner air. I don’t agree with this article because it doesn’t really talk much about clean air, it focuses on anti-terrorism. I think the bigger issue is clean energy for India because they are in desperate need of it, the air quality in India is horrible.
In article #3 the subject is how Trump isn't helping the clean energy problem and how he is making it worse. The author is Steve Benen. The context is Trump’s vs. Obama’s environmental policies. The intended audience is anti-Trump supporters. It is very left but it has a lot of good information and it is very detailed. The significance is that Trump’s needs to start caring about the environment and that he is killing it. I agree with the article, but I think they are blowing things out of proportion just a bit.
The similarities between the articles are that they all talk about clean energy, but some article especially article #3 is very strong with their point of view. With article #2 they the reader can obviously tell it was written from a right-wing perspective the same goes for article #2 instead article #2 was very left. The NY Times article was right in the middle and was very supportive of each side.
I identify with Article #1 and #3 most because they actually talk about the issues I think that are most important while article #2 just touched the tip of the iceberg with clean energy.

Conceptualizing the Issue and Assessing Types of Action
I chose “Green Energy and Alternative Energy” as my issue because, I feel that there should be more funding towards new energy and we are destroying our planet by not trying new ways of powering our daily life. This is an issue because we are doing irreversible harm to our Earth. We need to modernize and stop using old technology I think that there is enough money to go around to solve these bigger issues to save Earth. There need to be more funding by governments of the world to be able to experiment new ideas and create new technology. On Twitter I am following multiple hydrogen energy companies           (@H2FC_Hannover) because I think that is our future fuel source. I am following (@Tesla) because Ellon Musk is taking the right steps towards change with his cars, the only thing that I disagree with is that I don’t think electric cars are the solution because burning of coal and other fossil fuels is what charges each car and that is polluting our planet. I am following  (@NAITAltEnergy) because they offer  a two-year diploma program, training highly skilled workers to fill a variety of roles within the alternative energy and energy efficiency sectors, which is amazing because we need more people in this industry. I am also following (Clean Coal Tech@AdvancedEnergy) because coal is very important especially if its powering the electricity in our cars. Finally I am following the EPA on twitter because hey make the regulations in our country for our clean energy.
