A good example of "so what does evil do?" Is done by Warhammer 40k imo. The chaos god of change, Tzeentch, wants a constant flux of instability, it's not really evil by philosophy but only evil by the impact on humans. Even ecstasy, bloodshed, and pestilence require eternal cycles that can never "win" or even "lose".
Vaatu may be the same.
So like…where did Raava and Vaatu come from? Did they have parents? Are they considered siblings? Were they always entangled since the time of creation until Wan day?
What is Vaatu’s ultimate goal? While I appreciate a good versus evil thingy here it always seems strange to me that a bad guy’s...

Varrick would be so much more of an interesting character if he was 50% more Andrew Ryan (from bioshock). Given, he's already a pretty great character already, hell, if I had the body, I'd cosplay him.

I hope that the writers are playing a bluff to send us all spinning on our heads.
For all that his manipulations came to naught, Unalaq didn’t seem to react much, did he?
Korra makes some powerful claims. Let’s list them, one by one:
"You don’t want unity. You want power."
"You’ve always been jealous of my father, haven’t you?"
"You got him banished so you could become…

So episode 4 . . . I can't wait to get to a computer because boy oh boy, do I have some opinions on that, many of them unpopular. I didn't like it.

Unpopular opinion: Boleska demonstrates why Borra would have never worked out even if Korra was enthusiastic about it… by jacking all of the issues up to eleven and making them impossible to ignore.

I think everyone is spot on with the animation complaints, for the story we'll have to wait and see. They've definitely heard the criticism in regards to storytelling of Book 1 but I think they are just being sloppy in terms of execution for fixing said valid criticism. Again, we'll have to see, I'm not privy on production team changes, though it is public knowledge that the animation studio changed.
Book 1 x Book 2

A point to start: the character design. Srslly??? WTF???????!!!111111!
I’ve seen A LOT of fanart wayyyy BETTER than THIS!
It really is a shame what is happening to the series… I really liked the first book but this Book 2 … I dunno, i just can’t deal with it! The quality of the animation decreased drastically and the plot… could be better, and I know you may agree with me. And where’s the fandom???
Well, this book is just starting, right, who knows it still has salvation?
Here I am crossing my fingers that the show doesn't get canceled and OH PLEASE GOD let it be true that Studio MIR will again be responsible for the animation, because the way it goes… it goes bad … very bad.

Not gonna lie, personally one of my favorite fanarts, but maybe I'm just too big of a fan of contemporary versions of any characters.

Was it just me or did anyone else think “creepy robot twins” too?

That's some good commentary.
I don’t think anyone has mentioned it as it was so minor that it passed by without comment.

But in "Rebel Spirit" there is a crowd gathered to meet Unalaq, who are mistaken to have gathered to greet the Avatar. Just seems odd to me that there seems to be public excitement around Unalaq but not the Avatar, especially in the South, which we have been told is anti-spiritual and is the home of Avatar Korra. Logically you think they would be all "hometown hero" about Avatar Korra rather than "meet n' greet" with Chief Unalaq.

List of Legend of Korra Book 2 Theories mk.1
This is a list of theories I have heard regarding Legend of Korra Book 2, mainly based off of trailers and what has happened in the first three episodes. I thought it would be neat to gather them all in one place and I plan on making more versions of this as the plot develops and I hear of more theories. If you know of any theories I didn't list or personal ones you have, go ahead and tell me.
Unalaq
1) Unalaq is evil. Unalaq has set everything up in order to establish himself as leader of both Water Tribes and is using Avatar Korra to stabilize his power. Unalaq has always wanted power and staged Tonraq's banishment as well as the Dark Spirit attacks in the South, both on the ships and Korra and the Krew. The spirits are only attacking Korra because she is affiliated with Unalaq.
2) Unalaq is good. Unalaq is introverted and is inept in realizing what ramifications he is having in the South, Unalaq is not behind the spirits and instead is trying to restore balance, as he says. He doesn't have any shady motives and is doing what he believes is best based on his knowledge of the spirits. Fighting or ignoring Unalaq will lead to a spiritual armageddon.
3) Unalaq is a pawn. Unalaq is acting evil, is being shady, but is not the mastermind in a scheme to give him power, rather there is an ultimate evil, probably a spirit, working as a puppet master using Unalaq as a figurehead for escalating the conflict and furthering the goals of some incredibly powerful spirit.
Varrick
1) Varrick is evil. Varrick is working as a provocateur and plans on profiting from a civil war between the Northern and Southern Water Tribes. Varrick plans on using his business partnership with Future Industries to use Mecha-Tanks and Biplanes to help establish himself as the leading business tycoon of the world. Varrick is additionally using ties to the underworld and maybe even the Triads to fuel his successes and preparations for a greater scheme.
2) Varrick is good. Varrick knows Unalaq is evil and realizes he is trying to gain control of the South. Varrick realizes the only way to stop Unalaq from gaining complete control and power is to start a resistance movement and drive out the Northern aggressors.
3) Varrick is a pawn. Varrick is essentially an actor and figurehead for his shipping business, though he may or may nor realize it. Varrick's eccentric personality hasn't helped in at all in business and he gets to live the life of a rich tycoonist as long as he answers to his boss. Someone smarter is using Varrick to take blame for mistakes and shortcomings. The only viable person who could be doing this that we know of would be Zhu Li, the way Varrick treats her may be part of a greater act.
Statue/Sculpture that Jinora Finds
1) It is Wan. Somehow the first Avatar is using his power, maybe from beyond the Spirit World, to contact Jinora in order to tell her something important and of great significance. Something about Jinora allows him to do this, maybe because she is a descendant of Avatar Aang or one of the last airbenders.
2) It is a "dark" Avatar. Could tie in with the Unalaq as a pawn theory. The statue is of an Evil Avatar, one who used their bending and Avatar State for their own personal gain. That is why the statue is separated and seems to be made of wood rather than stone, as well as having strange inscriptions. This evil Avatar is using the spirits to come back and take control of the physical world.
3) It is a(nother) Spirit. Because the time is close to the Winter Solstice, spirits are able to merge into the physical world. A non-dark spirit is trying to communicate with Jinora to tell her of why exactly the spirits are upset with the Avatar and the material realm. Jinora's relationship with Korra is why this spirit is specifically trying to contact her, rather than anyone else at the Air Temple.
North/South Spirit Portal
1) It's exactly how Unalaq says it is. It is a instant teleportation gate between the North and South poles that will allow anyone to move between the two points in a matter of seconds.
2) It's a gate to the spirit world. Rather than the astroprojection we have seen with Avatar Aang entering the Spirit World, this portal will allow anyone to enter the Spirit World in their physical form. You can still travel between the Poles much faster than in the physical world, but it is still very dangerous as the Spirits can interact with humans and humans can interact with Spirits.
