Making an intro poast for this blog! (Main is @isomorbism, this one is just the alt account I made when it was shadowbanned.)
"pretentious teenager and bad posts expert"
My name is Iso (he/him) and I'm 17. I'm autistic (which is why I have this url) and I like pure math, computer science, trains, birds, and Death Note. I'm interested in many other things too.
No DNI, I will be polite and open to discussion of most topics (unless otherwise indicated) as long as you approach me in good faith and follow some basic rules:
Do not engage in discriminatory rhetoric on basis of racial or ethnic origin, disability, gender, AGAB, intersex status, or sexual orientation on my posts.
Do not engage in p*dophilia apologia.
No explicit sexual comments or content on my posts (you can follow if you post nsfw content, but I would prefer that nobody says sexual things to me).
Do not ask me about shipping discourse.
Do not ask me some personal questions I am not comfortable responding to (for privacy) such as my nationality, what other languages I speak, or my AGAB.
Organizational tags:
iso.txt - my text iso.takes - my opinions iso.rb - reblogs iso.asks - asks iso.self - "me" tag

There’s so much less ableism at my sailing group than at any of the uni chronic illness/ disability groups I ever went to. Turns out having a shared goal (get in boat and float around) and a wider range of disabilities and experiences is good for you.

the rhetorical effectiveness of communists is kind of in doubt to me when they have historically mostly won power through force of arms, and when they have to actually contest elections they struggle to win posts more significant than county dogcatcher. the last communist legislator in the US was a montana state senator in the 20s. the post-SED party (not even communist, but democratic-socialist) party in germany can’t consistently crack 5% of the vote. even the nepalese communists, who were in a shooting war with the government for years, that ultimately brought down the monarchy, are fractured and govern as party of a massive coaliton.
and even with the rather unsportsmanlike tool of being able to credibly threaten your opponents with death, plenty of communist factions have ended up being wilderness guerilla outfits who have to smuggle drugs or kidnap people to make ends meet; so on the whole, i suspect their tools for political organizing are, let’s say, at best situationally effective

my problematic AI alignment opinion is that I think it's not an issue we ought to be overly worried about but I think that if it does become an issue we should focus less on ensuring that the AI doesn't wipe out humanity and more on ensuring that it does do something cool, whether or not that entails wiping out humanity as a side-effect. imagine if the AI wiped out humanity and then did lame shit that wouldn't even be cool if you read about it in a SF novel.
