My mom asked me, “Why do you want to be autistic so bad? Isn’t it a good thing if you aren’t?”
Sorry, I’ve been masking all my life and due to this I don’t know who I am at all. I don’t know what is real or isn’t real about me. I don’t know who I actually am, what I actually think or what I believe, because I have been raised to hide my autistic traits.
Autism is not something to be cured. It’s not a disease, and it’s not just a disability, but a way of living. It influences every aspect of autistic people’s lives. Autism is not something we simply “have” it is something we are and is inseparable from us.
Autistic kids tend to feel isolated and alone while growing up, especially when they are undiagnosed. Because when we are undiagnosed we don’t know why we are the way we are, and we feel lonely. We feel like we have to hide what makes the world see us as “different.” When we get diagnosed with autism, we finally feel like we have an identity to hold onto, when so many of us feel identity-less.
And when we are professionally diagnosed, we are infantilized, categorized into arbitrary labels such as “high-functioning” or “low-functioning.” We are seen as less than allistics. We are seen as guinea pigs and answer machines.
I want to remind all autistic people, whether professionally or self-diagnosed, whether cis or trans, whether white or BIPoC, that your experience as an autistic person is still valid even when allistics and professionals may not support you or take you seriously.

Sometimes I look back at old special interests and I feel a twinge of sadness. Like, God, sometimes I really miss them.

I hate this idea that only professionals could possibly know that you are mentally ill, or disabled, and that any self diagnosis is invalid. Not everyone has the resources to get diagnosed, especially marginalized people often times don’t get taken seriously by professionals.
I tried to open up to my psychiatrist about believing I was autistic, but she brushed it off and dismissed it as “social anxiety.” And I cried afterwards. Why, you may ask? Because, it hurts to not be taken seriously. And my mom said to me, “Why do you want to be autistic so bad, isn’t it a good thing if you weren’t?” After I heard that I was like oh my gosh, why would you say that?
I’m tired of seeing parents of autistic children complain about autism. Try having to be autistic 24/7, constantly being exposed to things that upset, overstimulate, and tire you no matter where you go. And when you tell your parents about how you are feeling, they tell you to shape up.
Just because a lot of parents don’t understand autism doesn’t mean they don’t love their kids, but they may indirectly do harm to their children when they act like they know everything about them just because they are their child. Kids can hide things from you, you know, this includes masking autistic traits.
And this is one of the reasons why I hate psychiatry as a whole, psychiatrists only have one solution to your complaints—increasing your meds. But people have this false notion that autism is a mental illness, when it’s not, and it’s not something that can be treated or cured but rather something to be embraced and accepted.

extricagender - A gender in which one wants to free themselves from gender norms, expectations and labels in general, but can’t find a way to fully let go.
Tumblr media
Derived from the word extricate, meaning to free someone or something from a difficulty or constraint. For Extricagender people, gender is a constraint holding them back from being happy and content with life.
I made this term because I couldn’t really find a term to define me. I hope other people identify with this. Sometimes, I am content with my life until I remember gender, and gender can be an obstacle for many people. And while I’m sure many would like to leave gender as a whole behind, it’s not that simple. I wonder if anyone feels that way, too?
This gender describes people who do not like having to gender themselves, but can’t fully handle letting go gender in its entirety, and retains some aspects of other genders.
The range in dark-ish colors represents the many environments and features of our universe. The dark, black stripe is for when this gender feels like simply nothing, faded. Our gender comes with us no matter where we go, and no matter what place we go, whether the backside of the sun or deep in the ocean, our gender comes along with us. These colors could also represent the way our gender could feel, heavy like lava, or weightless, like outer space.

Caelivus: A gender related to empty space between celestial bodies, where you can see the stars but not feel them and are alone. Can either be used as a modifier or a standalone gender.
(I was inspired to coin this by an anon who asked if there was a gender that had a definition similar to this and I couldn’t find any, and I also vibed with it so I coined it)
Name taken from the latin words caelus and vocivus, colors are eyedropped and slightly edited from pictures of empty space besides the middle stripe which is meant to be a copy of what space looks like, could be simplified to just white dots going down the middle stripe possibly.

Hello, Tumblr! Today, I am proposing a new Xenogender… *drumrolls*
EVAGENDER !!!
Evagender is a gender for those who feel a strong connection to or love for the Evangelion series, its story and its characters.
Tumblr media
The flag colors were taken from EVA Units 01, 02, 00, and 04 respectively! This flag is supposed to represent the uniqueness and design of each EVA and their pilot.
Anyone of any romantic or sexual orientation and gender identity, can identify with Evagender! All haters will be blocked.
Pronouns: Eva/Evas/Evaself
This xenogender is intended to be used by autistic and other neurodivergent people whose gender feels influenced in a way by Evangelion!

Appreciation post for the little guys from the Mario universe. I don’t know why, but whoever created them had to make them so dang adorable by giving them either that little smile or those beady eyes!
