I decided to give Fanfics another try.

My Fic Fandom -Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Refusing to let biases get to him, he serves only the craft and himself. Who's side will he serve? And can he make a difference?

I finally realized that I needed to let my ocs have their own path, their own story and not just highjack the og story. Silly, I know but I did learn. I made a mortal magic user for this world, without divine blood... and made him thrive in a world of monsters, magic and gods. Made him matter, in his own way...

Inspired by HP

So I am not the biggest fan of Harry Potter, even before JK went off the edge. However, I cannot deny that it and it's fanfiction have not inspired me to write so many amazing stories over the years and even now. I think we forget that even crap has nuggets of gold in it...

Just a thought.

I am in love with the issues of bias, abuse and mistreatment in the series but was hateful towards how it was never addressed. It was glossed over, as was Lily as a person. I need to fix this, in some way...

And so, some new ideas have formed as a result, inspired by but not based on HP.

Honestly, I think Fanfictions of HP are ten times better than the og story. They feel more fleshed out, more loved, and more creative. However, I think this is an entirely valid point.

as a huge fan of both harry potter and percy jackson, it always rubs me the wrong way when people criticize harry by saying, “percy challenged the corrupt system and held them accountable, harry became part of it.” if the aim is to criticize jk rowling, i’m more than willing, but there are plenty of other decisions she made that actually deserve scrutiny. harry becoming an auror is not one of them. he didn’t join a flawed institution to become part of its corruption; he joined because he intended to FIX it. harry is extremely powerful, headstrong and determined, naturally drawn to mysteries, and has a deep commitment to justice. he was made to be an auror. and his goal is to make the wizarding world safer, to pursue dark wizards and death eaters, and to eliminate the threats that hang over the post-war wizarding world.

i love percy more than anything, and his choice to step back and live his life instead of becoming an immortal god was a brave and humble decision. i adore him for it. i love how our seaweed brain just wants to live his life in peace with his girlfriend and his besties. but harry, after all the betrayal and trauma he endured from the ministry, choosing to work within it — knowing how broken it was — took IMMENSE courage. he could have lived comfortably on his fortune or pursued a much more fun path in quidditch. but instead, he chose to be right there in the thick of it, determined to fix a broken system and put dangerous individuals where they belong. after everything he’s been through? that’s fucking amazing. it’s very on brand for harry.

so yeah i have endless admiration for percy for calling out corruption. but harry didn’t tell them to fix it. he chooses to fix it himself.

stop pitting my boys against each other. jk rowling has made a lot of mistakes in her life, many that i will never forgive her for. but making harry an auror was not one of them. he was born for it, and it would have been cheap and out of character to say he chose a career that’s fun or easy. because harry never backs down from a challenge, and especially not one that saves a life.

Funny corrections

Anyone else find it silly that I keep on writing boy (since I Used to write YA) instead of man? I have to keep on correcting myself, otherwise it makes so many scenes odd and even creepy. Language is a funny thing.

demigods who know how much an average loaf of bread from the store costs:

leo — he was between foster homes a lot and often ended up homeless. he knows the cost because he's spent many times counting out the spare change in his pockets and praying he has enough.

percy — he and sally went/still go on grocery trips, and he rants to annabeth if the price goes up. want to know how the economy's doing? ask percy about bread prices.

demigods who do not know how much an average loaf of bread from the store costs:

annabeth — maybe back when she was with luke and thalia, but she's been in camp half-blood for most of her life. bread just appears on a plate in front of her, who is she to question it.

frank — he's a nepo baby.

hazel — she's been dead for 70 years. seeing what the price has been inflated to now may kill her.

jason — he was raised by wolves. lupa does not have time to worry about the inflation rate of bread.

nico — he was cut off from modern society for 70 years.

piper — she's also a nepo baby. and she spent a lot of time shoplifting, so the illusion of cost doesn't apply to her.
