Elegy for Dunkirk by Dario Marianelli from the "Atonement" Original Soundtrack
Soundtrack Sundays. This is one of the most epic scenes I have seen in a film. The actual scene is about five minutes long and it is filmed solely from one camera in one single take. For anyone who does not work in film, filming a scene this extensive with this much content and people involved is an incredible piece of work. Also, check out this film Atonement. Of course, the book by Ian McEwan is even better, but both are absolutely beautiful.

Medicine by Daughter Pick it up, pick it all up, And start again. You've got a second chance, You could go home. Escape it all. It's just irrelevant. It's just medicine. It's just medicine. You could still be, What you want to, What you said you were, When I met you. You've got a warm heart, You've got a beautiful brain, But it's disintegrating, From all the medicine. From all the medicine. From all the medicine. Medicine. You could still be, What you want to be, What you said you were, When you met me. You could still be, What you want to. What you said you were, When I met you. When you met me. When I met you.

This Armistice (Acoustic) by The Receiving End of Sirens
Your gross fabrication of pretense could bore, Yet still I fall victim to syntax omitted, Just shy of something I could understand. So blissful, I press on to the sound of the organs, Playing their most convincing tunes, As they serenade to the parade of paid-off parts. And now the only thing left to discuss is, The details of this armistice. We've come to this agreement. Check my vitals. The truth is vile, but vital to this cause. I've been held hostage, A captive of this passive shell. Give me gravity. Give me clarity. Give me something to rely on. We're all puppets. We're all marionettes. We're all puppets. We're all marionettes.  These body parts are parts of plans, Passed by my hands. My hands shake through handshakes, Forsaken by my limbs. My limbs sing the hymns,  The hymns of a tyrant in a crumbling pantheon, As inhabitants will raise their fists and bid him to disarm. Check my vitals. The truth is vile, but vital to this cause. I've been held hostage, A captive of this passive shell. Give me gravity. Give me clarity. Give me something to rely on. Tell me who's pulling the strings. We're all puppets. We're all marionettes.  Tell me who's that you move for. We're all puppets. We're all marionettes.  Oh, how I've been teething, In light of your misleading You've caused this collapse, Between the heart and the synapse. Tell me who's pulling the strings. Tell me who's that you move for. We're all puppets. We're all marionettes.  We're all puppets. We're all marionettes. So blissful, I press on. The strings and joints will join us together. The strings and joints will join us. The strings and joints will join us together. This particular acoustic version of this song is one of the best musical experiences to ever be created.

Blue Jeans and White T-Shirts by The Gaslight Anthem (Live Performance) We are the boys from Little Eden. We are the heart of Saturday night. We drink from the fountains off the fireworks, Sweat and bone for a better life. We like our choruses sung together. We like our arms in our brothers' arms. Call every girl we ever met Maria, But I only love Virginia's heart. Still we sing with our heroes, 33 rounds per minute. We're never going home until the sun says we're finished. I'll love you forever if I ever love at all. Wild hearts, blue jeans, and white T-shirts. Somethings baby never told you. Somethings papa done ain't right. Spent a lifetime just to get over. You always said my mama tried. Still we sing with our heroes, 33 rounds per minute. We're never going home until the sun says we're finished. I'll love you forever if I ever love at all, With wild hearts, blue jeans, and white T-shirts. So tonight I'll call you from a 4th Street payphone. We'll sleep on the beach if we ain't got a ride. Someday I'll buy you that house on Cookman. We could sleep on the beach all night. Sleep on the beach if we ain't got a ride. Sleep on the beach all night. Sleep on the beach all night. Sleep on the beach if we ain't got a ride.

Everything I Once Had by The Honorary Title (EP Version) Everything I... You were everything I once had. The bar on First Avenue, We went there solely for you, So you can flirt with my best friend, Kiss a girl, tell me why you're laughing. I wont hold on, I can't hold on to this. There's a hole in the trust that we mapped out in my bed for six long months. There's a hole in the trust that we mapped out in my bed, For six long months. I won't hold on to this. February, Valentine's Day, Did my best to avoid the red cliches, So you dumped me on the subway, On my way to work at nine in the morning. Everybody else was holding bouquets, Now I'm holding my face in the basement, Scratching away for a trace, Of affection you will leave, Falling victim as the public's prey. I wont hold on. I can't hold on. I won't hold on to this. Saw a silhouette, the perfection, The outline of my dreams, The blur that made everything, I had and put it all to shame. I just won't hold on to this. Anyone is suitable for you, I guess, tonight. You weren't fazed. It's over with you, my beautiful. You weren't fazed. It's over with you, my beautiful. With your beautiful blue and white.

You Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. by Bright Eyes Well you say that I treat you like a book on a shelf.  I don't take you out that often, Because I know that I've completed you,  And that's why you are here. That is the reason you stay here.  How awful that must feel. You said you would be my dream. I could have you every night,  And if, by morning, I had forgotten you, Well, no big deal, it would be all right,  Because you are the reoccurring kind.  You are the reoccurring kind.  You never really leave my mind. Are you the love of my lifetime? Because there have been times I have had my doubts. We were just kids when I first kissed you, In the attic of my parents house, And I wish we were there now.  It took so long to figure out,  What this book has been about. Now I write when I'm away letters that you never read.  You said, "Go explore those other women, The geography of their bodies,  But there is just one map you'll need.  You are a boomerang. You'll see.  You will return to me." You will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. Because if you don't, then this book is all lies.  If you don't, then my plans would all be ruined. If you don't, I'll start drinking like the way I drank before, And I just won't have a future anymore.

Tiny Vessels by Death Cab For Cutie This is the moment that you know, That you told her that you loved her but you don't. You touch her skin and then you think, That she is beautiful, but she don't mean a thing to me. Yeah, she is beautiful, but she don't mean a thing to me. I spent two weeks in Silver Lake, The California sun cascading down my face. There was a girl with light brown streaks, And she was beautiful, but she didn't mean a thing to me. Yeah, she was beautiful, but she didn't mean a thing to me. Wanted to believe in all the words that I was speaking, As we moved together in the dark, And all the friends that I was telling, And all the playful misspellings, And every bite I gave you left a mark. Tiny vessels oozed into your neck, And formed the bruises, That you said you didn't want to fade, But they did and so did I that day. All I see are dark grey clouds, In the distance moving closer with every hour. So when you ask, "Was something wrong?" That I think, "You're damn right there is, But we can't talk about it now.  No, we can't talk about it now." So one last touch and then you'll go, And we'll pretend that it meant something so much more, But it was vile and it was cheap, And you are beautiful but you don't mean a thing to me. Yeah, you are beautiful, but you don't mean a thing to me.

Fast Car performed by Tracy Chapman You got a fast car. I want a ticket to anywhere. Maybe we make a deal. Maybe together we can get somewhere. Any place is better, Starting from zero got nothing to lose. Maybe we'll make something. Me myself I got nothing to prove. You got a fast car. I got a plan to get us out of here. I been working at the convenience store, Managed to save just a little bit of money. Won't have to drive too far, Just across the border and into the city. You and I can both get jobs, And finally see what it means to be living. See my old man's got a problem. He live with the bottle that's the way it is. He says his body is too old for working. His body is too young to look like his. My mama went off and left him. She wanted more from life than he could give. I said somebody's got to take care of him, So I quit school and that's what I did. You got a fast car. Is it fast enough so we can fly away? We gotta make a decision. Leave tonight or live and die this way. So remember when we were driving driving in your car? Speed so fast I felt like I was drunk. City lights lay out before us, And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder, And I had a feeling that I belonged. I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone. You got a fast car. We go cruising and entertain ourselves. You still ain't got a job, And I work in a market as a checkout girl. I know things will get better. You'll find work and I'll get promoted. We'll move out of the shelter, Buy a bigger house and live in the suburbs. I got a job that pays all our bills. You stay out drinking late at the bar. See more of your friends than you do of your kids. I'd always hoped for better, Thought maybe together you and me find it. I got no plans, I ain't going nowhere, So take your fast car and keep on driving. Is it fast enough so you can fly away? You gotta make a decision. Leave tonight or live and die this way.

Philadelphia by Bruce Springsteen I was bruised and battered. I couldn't tell what I felt.  I was unrecognizable to myself.  I saw my reflection in a window. I didn't know my own face.  Oh, brother, are you gonna leave me wasting away,  On the Streets of Philadelphia? I walked the avenue, Until my legs felt like stone.  I heard the voices of friends vanished and gone.  At night I could hear the blood in my veins, Black and whispering as the rain, On the Streets of Philadelphia.  Ain't no angel gonna greet me.  It's just you and I my friend.  My clothes don't fit me no more. I walked a thousand miles,  Just to slip this skin.  The night has fallen. I'm lying awake.  I can feel myself fading away,  So receive me brother with your faithless kiss,  Or will we leave each other alone like this,  On the Streets of Philadelphia?

About Today by The National (Live Performance)
Today you were far away, And I didn't ask you why. What could I say? I was far away. You just walked away, And I just watched you. What could I say? How close am I to losing you? Tonight you just close your eyes, And I just watch you, Slip away. How close am I to losing you? Hey, are you awake? Yeah, I'm right here. Well, can I ask you about today? How close am I to losing you? How close am I to losing?

Trailer Trash by Modest Mouse Eating snowflakes with plastic forks, And a paper plate of course. You think of everything. Short love with a long divorce, And a couple of kids of course. They don't mean anything. Live in trailers with no class. Goddamn I hope I can pass, High school means nothing. Taking heartache with hard work. Goddamn I am such a jerk. I can't do anything, And I shout that you're all fakes, And you should have seen the look on your face, And I guess that's what it takes, When comparing your bellyaches, And it's been a long time, Which agrees with this watch of mine, And I guess that I miss you, And I'm sorry if I dissed you.

Hallelujah covered by Jeff Buckley
Well I heard there was a secret chord, That David played and it pleased the Lord, But you don't really care for music, do you? Well it goes like this: The fourth, the fifth, The minor fall and the major lift, The baffled king composing Hallelujah. Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah... Your faith was strong but you needed proof. You saw her bathing on the roof. Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you. She tied you to her kitchen chair, She broke your throne and she cut your hair, And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah. Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah... Baby I've been here before. I've seen this room and I've walked this floor. I used to live alone before I knew you, And I've seen your flag on the marble arch, And love is not a victory march. It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah. Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah... There was a time when you let me know, What's really going on below, But now you never show that to me, do you? But remember when I moved in you? And the holy dove was moving too, And every breath we drew was Hallelujah. Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah... Maybe there's a God above, But all I've ever learned from love, Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you, And it's not a cry that you hear at night. It's not somebody who's seen the light. It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah. Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah... Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah... Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah. Hallelujah, hallelujah.

I Can’t Steal You by Matthew Ryan and Brian Fallon of The Gaslight Anthem Hold yourself. I’m done. My arms are tired. I saw you walking backwards, Towards the fire.
I’m in love with the red sky. I’m in love with the tragedy. We betray what we can’t deny. Because I believe she needs me.
I caught a flash, Of absolute perfection. Shattered light fell dark, In all directions.
Traffic floats like a ballet, Far below in the distance, Just as sad as the words we’d say, It’s all gone in an instant.
It’s just so easy, it’s hard. It’s just so easy, it’s hard.
Hold me closer. I can’t feel you. You’ll have to trust me. I can’t steal you.
Ash trays lie, Like hearts for you to burn in. Smoke curls from your mouth, Before you turn in.
Our love is a black gun. I see loss in the mundane. In the hours, the minutes run. They’re not so subtle, But they have their way.
It’s just so easy, it’s hard. It’s just so easy, it’s hard.
Hold me close. I can’t feel you. You’ll have to trust me. I can’t steal you.
Be careful what you wish for.  Be careful what you wish away.

Winter’s Widow by Reuben and the Dark I had the privilege of discovering this Canada-native band live. I highly reccommend that you check them out if you ever get the chance.  They have one of those live performance qualities that shakes your soul right out of your bones, in a completely brilliant way.   "You want me out of your heart, But I can’t find my way out. This winter’s widow was, My lover and my stranger.”
