                     ✛ RUMORS ABOUT BRAILSTON CITY ✛

Rumors and stories about the strange night at the Castle of Athoria have spread across the country quickly. There is talk about a large creature with a black veil who is controlling the King. Other rumors speak of conspiracy within the castle and how the Queen Mother is truly dead. Still more rumors tell of bloodshed.

For those people that were present that night at the guillotines, they seem to have a hard time remembering exactly what happened. Although they remember who was there and what was said, most people do not remember why they left or what the point was. Even with glamours or potions to make them think clearly, these people seem to have no recollection of what truly happened that night. Some supernaturals are the exception.

                                  ✛ WHERE IS THE KING? ✛

King Nathaniel Athor has not been seen in over a week. It is said he does not leave his chambers and he is not taking visitors or answering any questions about that night in the castle square. Nathaniel is barely eating and passers-by claim to hear him either crying inside his rooms or causing havoc. Workers in the castle believe that Nathaniel is still mourning the loss of his mother, and that he is at his wits end.

In addition to the King being absent, workers inside the castle claim that they have not seen the court members since that night either. They say the castle is quiet like a dungeon, except at night when the Vampires make an appearance.

                                   ✛ AN EERIE PRESENCE ✛

The Eternal has been seen inside the Castle of Athoria several times since that night. However, no human is allowed near it, and if they do come too close they are reported missing soon after. At the time, The Eternal is only interacting directly with members of The Midnight Congregation. When the Eternal is inside the castle, it lingers inside the throne room or Nathaniel’s chambers.

                               ✛ HYSTERIA IN THE CITIES ✛

Citizens of Athoria are growing anxious and upset as the weeks pass under King Nathaniel’s unpredictable reign due to the circumstances of The Queen Mother. Small riots and hysteria have begun to take place inside the cities along as on the main roads. Some citizens have started to take the situation into their own hands, not trusting those of the King’s alliance. Everyone is desperate for information and to return Athalia back home safely.

As Bloodhawk Members attempt to calm these rioters down in the cities outside of Brailston, Miervaldis faces internal pressure since officially becoming governed by Athoria during The Cauldron Event in November. Certain teachers, priests and other important mages in the community are refusing to work, help or assist in the search for Athalia Athor, causing a strain between The Guild and The Kingdom.

In Brailston City, fleeting riots on the jails have been the main issue of concern, as family members and friends have started to storm the jails in attempt to break everyone out. This has only lead to more arrests and even a few innocent deaths. However, many people have escaped before their interrogation. 

Southwind Fortress is facing issues of divide as many Knights of Athoria and Pack Anshega members seem to be at odds due to the stress of the King’s orders. Brawls have broken out more recently and frequently between the Hybrids and Humans. It has been difficult to calm both sides down, as the blame is placed heavily on each other. 

King Nathaniel is still asking anyone to step forward with information. He is becoming restless.

Everyone, no matter the specie, must sleep. The majority of dreams are forgotten once you wake up, making it safe for some creatures to navigate your mind while you slumber. The Dream Realm is a place where adventures of valor and horrors tip the scales of sanity. In some cases, they expose secrets or memories that you might have repressed.

Have you ever found yourself saying, “Thank God that was just a dream!”

But what if someone, or something, saw everything?

There are creatures in our game who can lurk in The Dream Realm. Most of them have their own personal needs for the host they choose…but what would happen if they found one of your darkest secrets. What did they see? Who was in it? And what would you do if they ever sold this information to the one person you didn’t want to have it?

“Don’t be afraid of losing people - be afraid of losing yourself,”

Where: The Entire Country When: January 14th - March 31st Type: Required Site-Wide Plot

News of The Queen Mother, Athalia Athor, spreads quickly throughout the country. King Nathaniel is demanding information on the whereabouts of his mother from every single city, alliance, person, and specie. Nathaniel can be seen pacing the halls of his castle enraged, suddenly filled with an intense and powerful fury regarding the disappearance of his mother. Although most are confused of his emotions, considering Nathaniel does not particularly care for his mother, it is understood that this was once the wife of the great Franco Athor, and that she MUST be found.

The Bloodhawks are in their element. They are sent to each and every city and are searching for distinct information and clues from those are both loyal to the Kingdom and those who have yet to pledge themselves to Athoria. Bloodhawks bring back anyone of suspicious nature, where they face interrogation at the castle, threatening their lives at the guillotine and gallows. The jails in Brailston City begin to fill. The Bloodhawks are responsible for searching Crescent Grove, Leeds, Night Haven, and Grimsby, as well as all of the main roads. Knights of Athoria travel the roads as well, questioning anyone suspicious.

The Magic Guild has decided to assist in any way they can. They collect items of Athalia’s and attempt to locate her with spells and trackers. They speak with the mages of The Coven of The Mighty Oak and try various other magical techniques to find the Queen Mother. Unfortunately, so far, these attempts have failed. 

Nathaniel’s court has reached out to Pack Anshega for assistance in the southeast. They have requested for the Shieldbrothers to work with Alastair’s warriors to search The Ancient Forest, and for the hybrids to aid his Knights located in Southwind Fortress.

Dragos and Chile Village are also being hassled. Homes, stores and churches are flipped twice over in search of the Queen Mother with no luck. 

It is as if Athalia Athor has vanished from thin air.

The SWP is required and will impact the entire country moving forward. However, this SWP will be ongoing and canonly last approximately two-ish months in game (if this changes, members will be notified accordingly)

Make sure to read SWP UPDATES that will be posted on the Athoria Events page throughout this SWP. These events will help move this large plot along and give your characters accurate information on how to react as it continues.

Since this SWP will last longer than usual, you have the opportunity to write with multiple partners in present day. If you would like a pair up and need assistance with a plot, let us know.

WINTER EVENT [1 ] – FEAST OF THE SEASON

Where: Castle of Athoria, Athoria Region When: Month of December Type: Optional Event

The end of the year is a special time for Athorians, who enjoy spending the holidays with their families and friends. Many traditions are performed during the month of December, including the trimming of large pine trees and traveling carols from the Church of Athoria. Athorians go door to door preaching inspiration songs to their neighbors, and they exchange presents besides roaring fires and mistletoe.

The entire country is ecstatic due to the Phoenix giving rebirth to the crops that were destroyed by the locusts. To celebrate, King Nathaniel is hosting a Feast of the Season at the Castle of Athoria. Those invited can enjoy the most glorious and largest meal prepared by the best chefs in the entire country. The halls are decked with festive decorations and tables of sweets line the walls. Music echoes throughout the entire castle.

Join the King and his court and the wonderful people of Athoria and celebrate the holidays at the castle!

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

If you would like to participate in the event, your character is invited automatically. You can be creative with how and why, or you can just show up and eat! Everyone is invited!

There will be an Event Update towards the end of December that will impact the plot moving forward. We will introduce this early so that your characters can be prepared when we come back from hiatus in January.

Reminder that this is the last Event of the first part of Season Five. Read the latest ADMIN NOTE regarding the HIATUS and what is allowed to be posted during this time.

   ✛ THE COUNTRY-WIDE RESULT OF THE PHOENIX ✛

Jiaying selected the Black Feather as her item for the cauldron after winning The Myths Next Door challenge. The entire country has been blessed with the REBIRTH of the lost crops from the locust invasion in Crescent Grove during the October Event.

                           ✛ THE CAULDRON IS READY ✛

Location: Countryside & Western Beaches Occurring During: Autumn SWP: Cauldron Event following Nathaniel’s Speech

It is time. The Magic Guild has taken the prepared Cauldron to perform the last pieces of the spell. Every year the collection of added items have created new possibilities and discoveries in all areas of magic, but this particular year is rumored to be unique. With everyone in the country allowed to attend and also participate, the Guild is anticipating something truly spectacular.

With a low rumble from the cauldron, the same sound is responding deep within the mountains. Everyone turns to peer up at Verasova, wondering if they were connected and if something horrible will happen. The potion bubbles, turning a dark red until it hisses into a transformation of lava. A shriek belts overhead; an unseen shadow descends upon the mountain, drawing attention to Mt. Kairo in the far distance. A crash is followed by a groan from the very mountain, and the penetrating silence afterwards puts everyone on edge.  

The cauldron erupts into flames. A tiny squawk comes from deep within the center, and then...a head pops out of it. Everyone close by is shocked and the emotions of the patrons escalates as a newborn Phoenix spreads its tiny wings and claws its way to the rim of the cauldron. Its second screech is stronger and it seems to grow within the flames until its wings unfurl and it takes off into the sky.

“Stoke the fire, stir the pot -- flame and fire, fierce and rot”

Where: Western Beach & South Countryside When: November 4th - November 30th Type: Required Site-Wide Plot

The yearly Cauldron Event is an extraordinary time of the year when The Magic Guild pulls together a spectacular festival for the magical community and has extended this to everyone in the country in a show of peace and harmony between the Regions. 

Located along the white sandy shores of the Western Bay and spilling into the hilly countryside landscape, some of the most influential gifted mages are there to show off their skills and sell their wares. There is a large protection ward seen as a glowing white circle against the ground to keep the peace within the event. This bright beacon will expel anyone there with ill intent, and this year, the King’s Bloodhawks are present to make necessary arrests.

Everyone begins to indulge in the festivities, sharing spells, incantations, herbs, and other goods. There are small plays taking place and a traveling circus to entertain. The positive energy and unity between The Magic Guild and the Athorian Kingdom is impossible to miss. 

The focus of power on this night has always been a beautiful wrought-iron cauldron that takes the full center stage during the various rituals performed. People are encouraged to add an ingredient to the cauldron and upon the final night of celebrations, The Guild will make a show of what their combined efforts produced.

Please pair yourselves up with a writing partner and tell the admins by SUNDAY NOVEMBER 5th who you are writing with. Anyone who does not pair up by that date will get tossed in a randomizer and assigned a partner. You can post it in Discord #questbuilding (tag the admins please).

If there is a magical item or enchantment your character wants to purchase or win at this festival you must message the admins first. An item will be randomly produced and given out by the admins with a small description of what and how it can be used in our game. Take advantage!

We will post an SWP UPDATE via the Events blog about halfway through the month that will talk about what is produced from the Cauldron. Your character can have an experience upon seeing this happen, so keep that in mind when wrapping up this event.

Marie! We were honestly thrilled that you found inspiration in such a small detail from the Phillip and Jiaying flashback involving the cat. To use that as a prompt and then pair it with this challenge to give your character depth in their development going forward was rewarding to read! We applaud making us scared and a little horrified! It was very spooky. Well done!

A plain rock: This gray, smooth stone seems to have been worn down in a riverbed. It doesn’t appear to be anything special. 

A black feather: This item shimmers in the light with flecks of purple and blues. It appears to hum with pleasant magic energy. 

A red soul stone: This gem pulses with red light like it contains a heartbeat. A feeling of dread and power emulates from its center.

                       ✛ THE RIFT IN CRESCENT GROVE ✛

Location: Crescent Grove Occurring During: Autumn Event: The Myths Next Door

The great rift that opened in Crescent Grove in June has seemed to widen marginally throughout the past month. More children arrive every day, some in groups that prove they are here for rebellious fun with their friends, while others are starring at the crevice as if they wished it would broaden enough to jump down. Parents from all over the country are fleeing to Crescent Grove to find their children and take them home. The people who reside there are confused, but also seem to be staying indoors and not offering any aid.

At the peak of the night, the rift lights up in blue fairy magic. A rush of air moves throughout all of Crescent Grove, vibrating sounds like a thousand fluttering wings is heard echoing against the towering mountains all the way to the shores. The children who unknowingly have been held captive by the Changeling Fae Myth are suddenly released from the parasite. The Fae’s energy seeps out of each inflicted child, draining into the rift where it continues to get brighter. When the last Changeling is pulled from the final host, the crack explodes, releasing a stunning display of lights.

But the rift doesn't close. The fluttering noise crescendos deep within the crevice. Upon closer examination, a gigantic swarm of locust flies out, big enough to black out the night sky as they begin to devour the Fall Harvest.

Athoria Events are optional but encouraged to use with your character while they move about the country for a certain month.

AUTUMN EVENT [2] – THE MYTHS NEXT DOOR

Location: Everywhere  Date: Month of October Who: Everyone

After the event in Leeds, word has slowly trickled into all of the cities throughout the country. Some people do not believe it, refusing to think the gifted humans were powerful enough to summon a piece of Lucifer. To the opposite effect, the church floods with believers looking to confess their sins and resolve their guilt. But all this energy has caused a shift...the world is seeking balance.

Hundreds of children have been found leaving their homes and walking on the roads towards Crescent Grove. There is something very off about all of them that is making the entire ordeal creepy. Alongside families chasing down their children, some are simply disappearing in Brailston City. Rumors are surfacing from those who once lived in Chile Village that its the work of the illusive Thin Man, but it could all just be rumors. 

Some of the children have strange deformities and their spines have become hunchbacked. These children have opaque eyes and are weary of anyone that comes close to them. Other children seem terrified as if they are running from something, and are making haste down the roads. And other children seem just fine and normal, walking along the roads as if nothing is wrong. Regardless, all of these children have one destination in mind and will do anything to make sure they get there.

Where: Anywhere When: Must be posted by October 31st Type: Plot Device or Character Development Winner: Gets to pick one out of the three choices of ingredients for the November Witchy Cauldron Event. This choice will unknowingly dictate what will happen when the final ingredient is added! 

Spooky encounters are something that can happen regularly in Athoria. However, sometimes characters can claim they aren’t afraid of certain things -- like the dark, or the tales of Ol’Milley. What would terrify your character. Is it rational? Would they believe what they are seeing or would they try to dismiss the reality of the situation that is scaring them? Would it trigger old memories? Or would they try to understand reasonably? What would your character do when faced with something truly scary?

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

We have compiled a list of spooky prompts and they will be sent at random to your characters inbox. 

You are welcome to write this in any format you like! Include graphics you have made or get creative in ways we don’t normally write on the dash. You can write this as a flashback or present day occurrence. You can write a selfie, a poem, etc. Be creative! If you aren’t sure what you can post, just ask an admin!

This can be a canon or non-canon event, just specify on your post.
