September 10, 2015 - Epilogue
On Saturday, I went to FedEx on 72nd Street (west side) to send my rent off. A 20-something woman was being waited on. The FedEx employee who was taking care of her kept addressing her as “mademoiselle.”
Me: Mademoiselle?
Her: Yeah, I have NO IDEA what’s that about.
The FedEx employee was clearly not French - his accent was definitely NY-based.

Since the trip - since I came back, I don’t feel the same. I’m ready to live elsewhere. Time is very valuable to me and I know there aren’t any jobs - at least in NY - that offer more than 4 weeks vacation time and a week of sick time. It’s just not enough. I keep thinking about Yahoo! (I think) who offer unlimited time off. 6 weeks in enough, I think. 1 week in spring, 1 week in winter, 2 weeks in summer and an additional 2 weeks here and there, split up throughout the year. I looked into San Francisco, Vancouver (Canada), Seattle, Portland (Oregon). When they say “expensive” do they mean more so than NY?
I wish there was another way. I’m tired of living here now. I wonder if I could live elsewhere. And where? Art, opera, theatre, film?

At work on Saturday night - while Dmitri was still in Nesha’s bedroom - no longer in the cupboard.
Jeannie: We always just left the cat at home, alone, with dry food out. They were fine. How much they charge? $400! What?!!! They shouldn’t charge that much, for what?!
Anthony: I say you do a Bill Cosby on him.

I trusted the cat boarder’s boss’s expertise/judgment with cats. But I thought it would’ve been less traumatic for Dmitri if we all waited for the cat trap. There would be no scary humans trying to get him. I don’t think he’d be as scared with the door closing in on him if he was alone. But the boss seemed concerned with time. Before Nesha’s return home Monday (Labor Day) night.
If it weren’t for her best friend’s baby’s christening, Nesha would’ve been booked for another cat boarding. And if that person had a flight to catch on Friday ...
I couldn’t imagine if I brought him with me to France and he did this right when I was going to catch my return flight. My idiot coworkers suggested that I should’ve brought him with me to France.
From now on, Dmitri won’t be leaving my apartment except for vet visits. Not anymore.

Dmitri was initially pacing throughout the apartment (when he finally got home), he was panting.
But then he calmed down after a few minutes. All was right in the world with him.

While Dmitri was under the bed he meowed, as if to say “Leave me alone!”
He went in and out of the carrier and finally when he went in the last time, the handler closed the flap and zipped it. The cat scratched him a few times. “It’s okay,” he said. I emailed this all to the cat boarder boss. He had to clean himself off.
After the handler left i put everything back to where I thought it was. I couldn’t remember exactly. All this while poor Dmitri was in the carrier.
Both the boss and Nesha were relieved he was home and back to normal.

The cat boarder boss sent a handler who said he didn’t know it it’d work. He put his gloves on and asked if Dmitri was dangerous. I said no but given the circumstances, I don’t know.
Dmitri was terrified. The handler tried shoving the cat carrier at Dmitri while Dmitri flew everywhere, on the bed, up the window. Dmitri even opened the close and got in and out of it.

I had blocked up the holes on Saturday while Dmitri was in the bedroom. [On Saturday].
I used video VHS cassettes, heavy books, and board game boxes stacking them in front of the holes. Plus a glass vase.
When I was done, Dmitri was under the bed. The next day, he was in the closet (Sunday). He never went back to the cupboard. But he ate his food.

Later, the next day, he found another hiding spot. I told him I wasn’t going to get him today. I had to get to work.
But on Sunday, I didn’t have to go in since my schedule changed. [I worked Friday, Saturday and Sunday 7:00 p.m.-7:30 a.m. and now was Thursday and Friday 7 am-7:30 pm and Saturday 7 pm-7:30 am]. The cat boarder boss was sending an experience handler.

Dmitri found a new hiding spot. Under her bed, where there are a lot of plastic storage bags.
