Would you say the French Revolution was a petit bourgeois coup?
Yes, the emerging class of merchants and landowners formed the revolutionary base for France’s transition from feudalism to capitalism.

In regards to that public defender discourse, how do you feel about the 6th amendment?
Well I’m not a liberal so I don’t put the US Constitution on a pedestal to idealize it as the pinnacle of human rights and freedoms. I’m a radical which means I understand that the Constitution outlines the governing system of a settler white supremacist, patriarchal, bourgeois state.
I guess I could say it’s “good” that those accused of crimes have a right to a speedy trial, defense counsel, compel witnesses, etc. but that doesn’t really mean too much if you’re someone that the system has an inherent interest in disappearing. Those protections are just a way for the ruling class to legitimize what it does, and if it actually does slow their agenda they’ll just override it completely, like how the war on terror did in the name of “national security”, and how Trump is doing now with undocumented immigrants.

this is the dumbest thing I have ever heard in my life https://x.com/ladielabrys2/status/1957504007095640179?s=46. How do their brains work like this? Like how do they get to that conclusion? Why would they even say this? I’m speechless.
Damn I’d expect Ladie Labrys to say something so stupid but the fact that this grown ass woman is the one proposing it makes it even worse. She gives me the impression that “radical” politics to her means saying the most inflammatory things to get a rise out of people. No analysis, no evidence, just a bunch of grand statements in a determined tone. And there’s actually nothing here that indicates she isn’t just a regular conservative, especially with the fixing broken families and return on investment rhetoric.

I hate the way abolitionism is watered down by liberals to “the justice system giving willing ppl a chance to repent, change, and be forgiven”. This is an insult to both criminalized ppl from various marginalized groups and victims of sa or dv watching their perpetrators get away with things.
Agreed! It should first and foremost be about understanding prisons as genocidal, pro-rape plantations. But liberals abstract this reality, as usual.

Tbh I feel like a lot of the fds/""feminist"" repackaging of hetero gender roles women would be a lot happier just being seperatists/celibate. It just seems like a lot of them don't even really like or want to date men, rather they are attracted to the status of being a "normal" woman (so comphet), and so are willing to stomach it if their man pays for everything. Like I just feel like women who actually want to date men don't need to be financially incentivised to do it.
I agree! They are rightfully fed up with het dating and the low availability of quality men; it seems like the logical next step would be to start decentering dating and marriage from their lives. But interestingly, they seem to double-down on it.

I can’t believe I didn’t send the link oh my god a moment of silence for me please. This is the discourse https://x.com/epm106/status/1957212963125006652?s=46
That’s oomf and she’s definitely justified in saying that. Online there are very, very few radical feminists that are explicitly anti-transmisogyny. There may be people who call themselves “TIRFs” but so many of them still want to “reach across the aisle” to the TERFs which means they don’t actually care about trans women’s safety and solidarity. This makes navigating digital radfem spaces a minefield.

I’m sorry, I had to come back, because this is just pissing me off. Everyone who dogpilled Hannah needs to die in the worst way possible, idgaf. Now we got raunchy-ass public defenders coming out of the woodwork, looking for sympathy, talking about how they knowingly let a predator off and framing victims as “more destructive” than their abusers. Every victim should be able to beat these motherfuckers with hammers without consequence.
They portray rape as a matter that the legal system genuinely cares about, as if victims genuinely have the upper hand in the legal system. They feed into the false idea that majority of rape accusations are untrue, and they continue to invoke Emmett Till in order to justify these vile rapists. They need to be stoned.
Just last week, some of these leftists with the loudest voices in this discourse were encouraging Black women to abandon feminism, minimizing and straight up ignoring our issues, and telling us that Black men have no patriarchal power over us. There are no limits to how much I hate these spawns of Satan. We need to get rid of them TODAY!
Exactly like this whole thing is so infuriating and it just goes to show that nobody takes rape seriously

A lot of 'leftists' need to hear this instead of embracing poor left behind white working man tropes. Or I don't know maybe their all too busy cosplaying 1900s coal miners.
Agreed. It’s settler delusion.

Where “materialists” misses the mark is being critical of capitalism but accepting the definition of “love” as it is. Tons of ppl dislike the male protagonist without being classist. Early 2000s romcoms were not progressive, they were part of the pushback against feminist movements of the 60-80s, that teaches young women and girls the most important thing in life is romance(a very shallow patriarchal version)
Speak on it!
It’s disappointing to hear that the movie doesn’t live up to Song’s ambitions.
The only “romcom” I’ll praise is Broadcast News. I think that’s the best love triangle movie. Arguably feminist too!

Are the leftist on Twitter sure they’re leftist at all??? Wtf is the point of labeling yourself as a leftist if you’re going to defend misogyny, rape, racism, pedophilia, abuse, and ableism??? I swear all they’re focused on is ending capitalism, that’s it, nothing else matters to them!!! Hannah shouldn’t have been met with backlash for simply having the want for public defenders that defend rapist to die, especially from leftist??? The world is doomed, I fear.
Twitter leftists have such an underdeveloped view of class. They think it just involves economics, and don’t understand how it intersects with and co-constructs race and gender. It’s pathetic and embarrassing.

the left is pretty weak when it comes to MRA rhetoric cause they keep repeating ideas that come from them with their own progressive twist
They’re all about strengthening class solidarity until it comes to gender issues, then they seem to turn a blind eye to how their apologia and MRA rhetoric alienates women and marginalized genders.

The recent public defender discourse has me wondering, would public defenders still exist under a socialist state and if so, how would their role differ compared to a capitalist state? Under socialism, would/should everyone still be guaranteed the right to representation (ie. 6th amendment) no matter how serious the crime is?
It depends on which socialists you ask. Marx didn’t speak very extensively about what the transition between capitalism and communism would look like, so later tendencies filled in the blanks with their own ideas.
What’s interesting is that the public defender who started this whole discourse is a Marxist Leninist who actually advocates for a “revolutionary justice system that is substantially less rigorous for professed enemies of the revolution.” So his idea of socialism wouldn’t even include 6th amendment-type rights for those he/his party would consider enemies.
I’m still in the process of learning about socialism/communism so I’m not totally sure what tendency I align with (although this discourse definitely made me realize it’s probably not Marxist Leninism). But I do think the current bourgeois system needs to be completely overhauled, including the adversarial model. I’m going to be looking into alternative modes of justice such as restorative/transformative justice and the inquisitorial system.

Do you think Obergefell v. Hodges will get overturned?
Yes. The concept of substantive due process protects both Roe and Obergefell. Dobbs reversed that for abortion, and in Thomas’ concurrence, he noted that the same can be done for gay marriage. Kim Davis’ case will provide SCOTUS with that opportunity.

I love radfems that aren’t transmisogynists and don’t revolve their understanding of patriarchy around bioessentialism. There. I said it. I had to get this off my chest. Other than anarcha-feminists, they’re my favorite feminists, I LOVE them. As a group radfems are infinitely more all over the place with their politics than anarcha-feminists though so I am still going to block them on the spot if I see one (they gotta start in jail and prove their way out) and I unblock if I see they’re one of the good ones but they’re very strong and take feminism seriously when they’re part of the good bunch. That bunch is so small though so it makes me very sad.
I feel the exact same way. I hate how you have to seep thru so much muck to find a good radfem online but when you do you’ve found a very impassioned advocate for gender abolition!

Thoughts?
OP is not saying that public defenders/due process shouldn’t exist. This is a discussion about the role defense lawyers play within the context of bourgeois patriarchal law. These tweets are not the cause of the fascist Trump administration’s actions. People just want to shut this conversation down.
