Top Items to bring to a Boudoir Shoot

Ever arrive to a shoot only to be met with the realization that you’ve forgotten something? If you answered yes then this quick guide will make prepping for your next Boudoir session a breeze. Now when working with models I always suggest that they bring their own seductive attire. This allows for a few things:It gives them a feeling of control, It lays out the framework of the subjects comfort zone, and lastly it is hygenic.

Most models know what looks good on them and do a great job making wardrobe selections. On the rare chance where you will need to intervene here are a few things to always be standing by with:

Corsets, cinchers, garters, and pantyhose are things we assume everyone already has laying around. Not always the case. Bringing in a few of these pieces will add an elegant and posh look to help achieve that seductive look. Keep in mind that sheer and lace are a great direction to go.

Extra makeup, hair pins and curlers are a must.For starters if you are NOT hiring a makeup artist have your model bring their own makeup. Maintaining your clients picture perfect glow is important throughout the session. If you choose to change looks bringing hair pins and curlers can help make for a smooth transition into the next set.

Oversized sweaters, men’s shirts and ties are not usually synonymous with Boudoir imagery. bringing in pieces like this to work with are beneficial in any session. Incorporating these items let the model warm up to the photographer and get a feel for how the session will go be before they dress down. Larger pieces also serve to aid in the posing.

Fans, fabric, bounce cards fluffy blankets and a nice chair are also great tools to have. Flat hair is not ideal for a fantasy boudoir shoot. A little man made wind give a more whimsical feel. In addition to my lights I bring several bounce cards that allow the introduction of more light in small spaces. In some spaces there won’t be a bed or room to bring one. In instances like this I have found that using a down blanket can easily give the illusion of a full size bed. Lastly the number of poses attainable when using a chair a practically limitless.
