Solavellan is the most obnoxious pairing I know.

It ruins both Solas as an interesting antagonist, and the Inquisitor as a protagonist.

And ends a fifteen year (or in world centuries) old story about the source of magic, betrayal, corruption, rebellion, titans, and the beginning and ending of the world we know

...... as a fucking heterosexual love story.

There's no redemption, because that would take time. They just drag the Inquisitor down with Solas.

I wish writers would have the balls to actually see their original vision through sometimes instead of letting fans dictate what the characters should do next.

Hard agree that the Solavellan ending wasn't great. I feel like after ten years apart maybe there'd be more of a reaction to seeing each other again?

I mean honestly that's the least of what I hated about it. Underwhelming reception aside I think what bothers me the most is how much Llavellan comes across as an enabler and a doormat. I don't know what the writer's intention was but there's something that repulses me a little about the way she makes excuses for him when she talks to Rook, how almost slavishly loyal she is. She insists that Solas totes wants to be saved because he keeps leaving breadcrumb trails for people to follow. And fine, if she can forgive everything he's done just to her that's one thing but surely she's aware of the hoards of bodies he's left in his path and what's going to happen when he succeeds. That she and everyone she cares about are going to be among those casualties. I hate that it has to be Rook who talks her out of it and she doesn't have any kind of epiphany on her own. I hate the way she basically says "Oh he actually wants me to stop him because he can't stop on his own!" it honestly feels a little sickening to hear. She doesn't sound like an equal partner with agency, she sounds like a self-deluded sycophant. Maybe if they'd been married for like 50 years I could understand how someone could be so blindly devoted but they were only together for about a year, he broke up with her twice and for nearly the entirety of the time they were together all he did was lie to her about who he was and use her to get the anchor. Being in love with her has never stopped him from hurting her and for her to have such blind optimism about it after ten years of no contact from him and fighting a blight he created feels so tragic. The fact that he felt bad about it or had feelings for her is kind of inconsequential in the face of his actions and by the time they reach their ending the best thing Llavellan gets out of it is that she gets to share Solas' fade prison with him for eternity. And I'm not speculating here, he gives a pretty definitive answer that it's going to be terrible. When she said "not if you don't go alone," it just feels naive and that's the optimum word here to describe Llavellan in Veilguard. Naive. And the infuriating thing is that the writers don't seem to know that or they don't care. It's ultimately the lack of self-awareness about the narrative it wrote that bothers me because I keep being told one thing but shown something else entirely.

@nixiegenesis was telling me a headcanon about her Rook, Nelan, getting so fed up with Solas' crap that he painted over his murals and I loved the idea so much I had to draw it.

As a sidenote Emmrich is appalled that someone taught Manfred how to say "asshat" but pretty much everyone else is just amused lol

My Rook is a certified Lords of Fortune dumbass with the impulse control of a magpie and a “mild” case of kleptomania. She’s in debt to people she hasn’t even met yet

Meanwhile, Lucanis is out here with two mansions, the bougiest assassin rates in Thedas, and Emmrich has what’s basically tenure at Mourn Watch Trump University, walking around dressed like my house down payment. These two are 100% bankrolling this lineup of freeloader chucklefucks

Manfred needs pocket money? Emmrich’s got him, we all know that. Also slipping a little extra to his girlfriend because she’s, you know, decades younger and strapped for cash

Then the rest of these clowns line up like it’s Thedas’ Saddest Payday, Lucanis included (he’s just there to see how far he can push Emmrich)

Emmrich finally sets up a budget spreadsheet, Lucanis whips out an abacus, and Mondays are officially allowance day with Emmrich and Lucanis alternating who’s dishing out the gold each week

This group of morons has turned adventuring into take your sugar daddy to work day

Emmrich and Lucanis are now writing “Weekly Allowance” as a line item in their budgets

Veilguard hurts me

Major spoilers for Veilguard last few chapters under the link (but specifically pertains to Davrin romance)

I played through Veilguard as an Antivan Crow rogue romancing Davrin and while I chose for Harding to sacrifice herself in my "canon" playthrough, I had to see what my Rook would say if Davrin sacrificed himself instead. Given that my Rook was finally allowing herself to have serious feelings only to have her hopes dashed, this hurts.
