For those not tapped into Australian politics, King Charles is in Australia to conduct his "historic first tour to the commonwealth realm" i.e visting countries that King Charles is supposedly a monarch to.
Indigenous senator Lidia Thorpe had requested an audience with King Charles for weeks prior to this visit, she wrote countless letters to speak to him. Unlike other commonwealth nations and other former Brisitish colonies, a treaty with Indigenous peoples in Australia was never formed. Their land was never ceded to the British Crown. After being denied and ignored, Lidia Thorpe, draped in a traditional possum skin cloak, stormed in the Great Hall during the reception for Charles at Parliament House in the capital shout the following:
I literally can't even look at these photos without getting goosebumps.

I can no longer work with any consistency due to losing access to narcolepsy medication. I am unable to raise any money for this. I will figure out the ramifications of this tomorrow. Expect projects to be cut. Ricky's site is shelved for the time being.

when I was like 15, a drunk woman I didn’t know at a party who was smoking a cigarette on the porch started randomly opening up to me about her infertility journey and I told her how I was my parents rainbow baby after multiple miscarriages and fertility treatments said not to lose hope. she comforted me about being a strange kid without many friends my age (hence why I was at a party full of adults thrown by my uncle) and told me everything would work out eventually. the next time I saw her like 2 years later (small town, mutual friends) she was carrying her newborn. I think about that a lot. it’s easy to feel disconnected from people and but sometimes just talking to them and hearing their point of view and relating makes you feel less alone. even if you’re only each other’s company for a few moments.

Fun fact about the early Catholic church is that, despite spending generations being persecuted by the Roman empire, it took less than 15 years under Theodosius I to go from “the empire is Catholic now” to “and also every other religion is banned.” You can literally read St. Augustine move from “state religious persecution is unacceptable” to “state religious persecution is cool actually” over his lifetime as Catholicism came to power. I’m sure there’s no broader lessons to be learned there

"voting makes you complicit in US war crimes"
that's not how anything works. if you live in the US, if you pay taxes, if you are using a cell phone, if you drive or ride in a car, if you own anything with a rechargeable battery, you're technically complicit in war crimes.
not voting for Harris is, in effect, a vote for Trump. (mathematically you could argue it's half a vote for Trump but that's still voting for Trump)
I heard a National Parks employee a couple weeks ago say he wasn't sure the National Park Service could survive another Trump presidency. Federal agencies across the government are racing to get money out the door before January - EPA climate justice grants. USDA grants to Black and Indigenous farmers. immigration courts are racing to process as many citizenship applications as possible before January.
They're doing this because they know what will happen if Trump is elected again. We all know. Because we've done this before. There's no "he's just saying stuff he won't actually DO anything" this time around.
Not voting does not keep your hands clean. Not voting is not a principled stand for anything. If you have the ability to vote and choose not to, you have if anything increased the amount of blood on your hands.

I know I just restating the point of that post but respecting religious freedom will sometimes require you to respect someone's belief that religious beliefs are categorically untrue, and there are a lot of people who are unable to handle this, and even more people who think they agree with this but haven't really grappled with what it means.

I think it's a common misconception that domesticating animals is somewhat like enslaving them. It really is more of a symbiotic relationship. No wild animal would have willingly put up with early humans if they didn't get something out of it. Wolves wouldn't have stayed with us and become dogs if they weren't getting food and safety out of it. Many large herbivores that are now domesticated could and would have easily trampled their early human captors or broken their enclosures open if they didn't have a reason to stay. Sometimes individual animals still do if we don't give them what they need.
The animals that have stayed with us for thousands of years have evolved to cooperate with us better. Dogs have additional facial muscles around their eyes that wolves lack in order to mimic human facial expressions. Sheep grow their wool perpetually while their wild counterparts don't because a bigger fleece means they're more likely to be allowed to breed and be kept around. Domestic dairy cows produce much more milk than wild bovine species and domestic hens lay more eggs. Do you know how energy costly producing eggs or milk is for an animal? It's pretty intense! They wouldn't be able to do that if we hadn't given them the food and safety from predators and the elements to.
And we really need to show these animals respect and gratitude for what they give us by taking excellent care of them. They gave up a lot to be with us, often including the means to take care of themselves in the wild. That's a huge reason why I'm not against using animal products, but I hate factory farming. They are still living, breathing creatures with needs and feelings. They deserve a comfortable life and, when the time comes, a humane death.

Every time there's a post about something shitty religions do there'll be a bunch of responses from people describing all the horrible things they experienced in a non-Christian religion and then a bunch of responses that just say "umm actually sweetie I think you meant to say Christianity :) Other religions don't do bad things :)"
Like bestie can you read the fucking room
