Donnell Brice- Installation Art 5/29
In the reading, “Installation Art and Experience” by Claire Bishop, tells us more information about installation art. Installation art is the type of art the viewer physically enters. Installation art is often described as “theatrical, immersive, and experiential.” (Bishop, 6). Also, I learned that installation art presents the elements space, light, and texture to us. Installation art seeks to “trigger fantasies, individual memories or cultural associations in the viewer’s mind.” (Bishop, 47).  In installation art there were some feminism included. One artist, Mary Kelly theorized the multi-perspective shift to installation art. In the 1980's most of the installation art were known for its gigantic scale.

Reading Response 8 - Alicia Persaud (05/25/17)
After reading Claire Bishop’s piece “Installation Art: A Critical History,” I gained a better understanding of the formation of installation art and how prominent installations have become as an art form today. I found Bishop’s use of case studies and claims by other artists to be interesting, as she was using them to further portray her belief that installation art requires its audience to engage and interact with it to truly experience it as an entire, cohesive piece and experience. This was an idea that I was somewhat aware of, but hadn’t necessarily considered significantly beforehand. Bishop’s ideas and examples of artists enabled me to recall my own personal experiences with installation artworks at museums, and how I did not comprehend the ideas or intentions of the pieces until I had not only looked around the pieces completely, but also actually interacted with the pieces themselves. In some cases, this included sitting on the pieces themselves and seeing a different view, possibly what the artist wanted viewers to see. Overall, I have realized that installation art enables artists to create a very close relationship between their artworks and audiences in a truly unique way, with both the body and the mind largely involved in the viewing process.
