I was talking to someone about Loveless the other day and they were going on about how 'sad it was' and whilst I get it's not a happy book etc, it's not really supposed to be sad in that way. It's supposed to be a book about accepting who you are, and learning that's its okay to be who you are, and aro ace people shouldn't be excluded from that

What is sad is that I forget how many people still view aro and/or ace people + anyone on the spectrum as 'broken' or as 'missing something' or 'lonely' or 'depressed'. Like we are NOT broken for god sake and my depression is definitely not from being ace. I'm not saying it's easy but I hate how we are often stereotyped

remember that valentine’s day can be whatever you want it to be. this includes both allos and aros. sure, celebrate the day in its traditional rendition. go ahead and make it platonic to reject the status quo. but those aren’t the only two options. sometimes valentine’s day is forgetting that it’s a holiday and going about your day normally. sometimes it’s treating your dog to an extra treat just bc that’s how you want to show you care. sometimes it’s making inside jokes with friends. and sometimes it’s celebrating your queer orientation by yourself. nobody celebrates the same version of valentine’s day, and I think we should disband the romantic-platonic binary associated with it

I feel pretty empowered with the aroace label, but I know that there are many who feel broken and guilty. Being sad that you can’t live up to something that society has ingrained into the human experience isn’t something to be ashamed of. It’s okay to feel those feelings. 

The fact that the human experience, especially regarding the concept of love, is so regulated is disgusting and I’m sorry that you are suffering because of it.
