I was planning on posting a new drabble, but with the news of Jonghyun’s passing I will hold off, out of respect. He was such an amazing person, inside and out, and he was such a huge inspiration to me in life. Never be afraid to speak out about your mental health, find someone to listen to. I am here as well, for anyone that needs it.

R.I.P. Jonghyun, a beautiful soul and a beautiful man.

“Hey!” -MJ

Soulmate AU: Everyone is born with a tattoo of their soulmates first words to them. Yours reads, “Hey!”

It seemed like as the years flew by, your friends were finding their soulmates one by one. At a rapid pace even, their tattoos had such specific statements or questions that once they heard them, there was no doubt about whether or not they met their soulmate. 

You were beginning to feel a little hopeless, every time someone found their soulmate, they’d cast a sympathetic look in your direction. That’s right, you weren’t having the easiest journey to find your own soulmate because apparently fate had it out for you. You must have done something in a past life to receive such a punishment, which may seem melodramatic to anyone that didn’t know your situation, but it quite felt like something of that caliber. 

What exactly did your tattoo say? “Hey!”

That’s right, plain and simple, a phrase you heard multiple times for the entirety of your life. People tell you not to rush, that you’re still young, but those were empty words. None of them could ever really understand how it feels to get your hopes up every time someone new greets you, only to have them dashed when they reveal their own tattoo, with a set of words completely different from what you just said. 

The future you were dreading was slowly coming together, practically everyone in your friend circle had found who they were meant to be with. Whenever you’d gather together, it was couples galore, and god, why did they all have to be so...touchy feely? You were trying not to be bitter, after all, you were glad they were all so happy, but it was just too much sometimes. 

The semester was finally over, and your best friend was having a small get together with the rest of your friends. Or so she said, because when you arrived at her apartment it was packed, even a little overcrowded in your opinion. 

“Y/N!” She called out to you, and your eyes immediately scanned the crowd of people to find your friend, a chuckle escaping your lips as you saw her waving her arms around like her life depended on you seeing her. Pushing your way through the crowd, you saw a lot of people that you’ve never spoken to before, or only just seen around town or on campus.

“So?”, she said, looking at you with a sly smile, and a mischevious glint in her eyes that made you a bit suspicious. “So?”, you repeated back to her, except you had a tone and expression of complete confusion. Sighing, she rolled her eyes before speaking again. “You’ve always been a little clueless Y/N, do you see anyone you may like? Or even think is cute?”

Oh.

“You did not seriously bring in a bunch of people to try and play matchmaker all night, did you?” A worried expression already plagued your face, as you thought about how this night was about to get way worse. Your friend casually patted you on the head, due to your height, and also to give you some sort of reassurance. “That’s up to you, but don’t hold back. At some point I’m going to run out of food and people will fly outta here in no time.” 

A small pout formed on your lips, but your friend gave you no time to argue as she quickly pulled a guy over. He was tall and cute, you think you may have had a class with him, but as soon as he spoke your friend shoved him aside. He didn’t even say the right thing.

As the night went on, your friend filtered through guys and girls, all leading to nothing. Not that you expected anything to happen, but that didn’t mean it hurt you any less. When you told your friend you were just going to go sit alone, she didn’t protest and just gave you a sad smile. 

If the night felt like it couldn’t get any worse, you were dead wrong, being someone who was always somewhat clumsy, and being lost in your thoughts really didn’t help you out with that. Walking through people, distracted as you reflected on every person you met, you tripped over someone’s feet and fell down, but not without bringing another person with you.

“Hey!”

You were so embarrassed by the situation that you responded right away, “I’m so sorry!” Looking over at the person next to you, you found a man around your age, maybe a few years older, with light brown hair and brown eyes. You expected him to be annoyed, but instead, a bright smile was on his face. A blush graced your cheeks, you think he probably has the most beautiful smile you’ve ever seen.

He stared at you for a few moments, back and forth from your face to the wrist that had your tattoo, before throwing his hands up and yelling, “I found my SOULMATE!” The room was filled with cheers and applause, you were sure you could definitely hear your friend screaming louder than the whole room altogether. 

Tears formed at the corner of your eyes, feeling completely overwhelmed by relief and happiness. He noticed your expression and quickly scooted over to wipe the tears away with his thumbs, giving you a softer smile than before, like you were the most precious thing in the world.

 Quietly speaking, hands now caressing your face, he said. “I thought I’d never find you.” You were speechless for a while, just staring into his kind eyes before you managed to utter something, “Me too.” 

The two of you decided to go outside to get some fresh air, awkwardly walking in silence holding hands since you had only just met. Suddenly he broke through the quiet and stopped walking.

“OH! We didn’t even tell each other our names, isn’t that so funny? I’m Myungjun, sometimes people call me MJ!”

You couldn’t help but smile, he had such an energy to him that you were incredibly drawn to. “I’m Y/N.”

“Pretty name for a pretty girl, huh?” You giggled and rolled your eyes at his flirting, pretending to scold him. “You’re shameless Myungjun!”

“I guess you’re going to have to get used to that!”

Those simple words made you so happy, even if he was teasing you. You really found him, maybe in the most embarrassing way ever, but you did.
