it took me years to realize part of the reason why i hated religion was bc of how scared my parents had taught me to be of it, so i wouldn’t go near it, so i wouldn’t suffer as much as they did.

since i was basically a toddler, death has been a triggering topic 4 me to the point that i would get panic attacks, but at the same time, “which god do i feel more attached to?” lord hades obviously, king of the underworld

I saw a post from a young pagan talking about how they feel their deities aren’t there or listening, and I responded to them and put some important concepts into words.

First of all, you’re not alone. A lot of pagans struggle with this, myself included. But there are some things that have helped me.

Practicing Clair Senses

If you haven’t put enough time and energy into developing your perception you’re not going to be able to tell who/what is around you metaphysically. I have a post I’ll put below that has some good exercises and breaks things down nicely.

Quantifying a Deities Presence

A gods presence is not always an easily definable thing. I was always obsessed with the thought of them either being there or not being there, and feeling like it had to be one or the other. But gods are able to be in multiple places at once, there are different aspects (or versions or pieces or whatever you want to call them) scattered around. There is a bit of my gods energy with me at all times, a tether that I can access to send messages, although this of course depends of your focus, abilities, and connection to the deity. What most people think of a god being “there” is when enough of a gods energy is with you to be conscious, to have sentience, to be able to hear you and talk back to you. But even if there’s only a small amount of energy there and they’re not talking to you or showing obvious signs of conscious presence, you can still connect to them. You can still talk to them.

Focus more on how it makes you feel, not getting a response.

Try to focus less on their response and what they have to say (because it takes a lot of practice and a state of focus to reliably “hear” it anyway) and focus more on how connecting to them makes you feel. It is difficult to communicate with beings we don’t fully understand, so don’t put too much pressure on yourself to be able to have full conversations with your gods.

many people see the gods they worship/work w as their parents figures. for me hades and persephone are those really cool teachers that you look up to bc they’re older, wiser and no matter what, they don’t judge you 🖤
