PG LGBT Movies

I’ve noticed a very sad lack of child-friendly LGBT movies. So, I’ve compiled a (very small) list of good LGBT movies that are child-friendly. (I’m excluding movies with implied rape, paedophilia, strongly implied sex, and self-harm. That doesn't leave a lot of movies.)

Although this movie was a little bit on the boring side at first, it gets more dramatic around the end. It’s pretty tame, though, there is a part where she talks about sex but it’s because her father is being rude (he basically asks who is the man and who is the woman in the relationship. I’m paraphrasing). 

Kumu Hina is one of my favourites on this list, it follows the story of Kumu Hina and a little transgender girl she mentors. It’s very inspiring and it also shows transgender people in another culture. Her husband is a bit weird but it’s a sweet relationship. 

This is a biographical drama about Christina, Queen of Sweden, a very notorious lesbian. She does talk about some smexy stuff in one (or more) scenes and her relationship ends badly. 

Although this movie isn’t exclusively LGBT, the main character realizes that she is a transgender boy. The movie is sad and some of the scenes are questionable but nothing overly graphic is shown. It is not in English but you can get it on Netflix with subtitles. 

This movie is a sweet movie about a gay man coming to terms with his feelings for his highschool friend after he has to come back to town to help his father. He finds out that a local Native American guy (played by a Native American guy) has a crush on him. 

A bunch of teens start an underground GSA, calling it the geography club and eventually get to have a real GSA. It has a lot of coming out in highschool stuff.

Not LGBT centered but it’s about a Cuban American family and has a few episodes dedicated to LGBT stuff since the daughter is gay. She comes out later on in the show.

Here’s further awesome proof that cosplay is for everyone! Brazilian cosplayer Solange, aka Tia sol (“Aunty Sun”) has won the heart of the internet with her wonderfully accurate homemade costumes and convention appearances around her home city of Manaus, Brazil.

“A friend said that I wouldn’t have the guts,” Solange told BuzzFeed News. “I chose a character and had the costume made without saying another word.”

“I don’t miss a single event in my city. I’d really like to visit other ones, but have you seen the price of the fares?”

“I never thought that I would be well received among the young people, I’ve made a lot of friends during all of this.” Cosplay conventions have become a sort of a haven for Solange: “I can launch myself into the world of make-believe, where anything goes.” Her next event is coming up in December. “I’m finishing up the painting on my new cosplay, Granny Juju from Jorel’s Brother.”
