I am a creature of fire and death. Once I was human, now I have two forms: human and dragon. There are five of us, each representing a different elemental aspect and manner of death. Our government made a grave mistake, subjugating their people. I am Ardere, Dragon of Fire. ((Independent rp blog for a non-fandom OC. Human-form FC: Lena Headey)) M!A: none

The way we perceive time and history is so weird I get so tripped out when I think about how Cleopatra lived closer tot he iPhone being invented than she did to the Great Pyramids being built. Or how Stonehenge would have already been ruins when Jesus walked the earth or how Oxford University is older than the Aztec Empire or how Anne Frank and MLK were born in the same year like man this it’s all so crazy

DOCTOR WHO SENTENCE STARTERS
“The children of my civilisation would be insulted.”
“You have a knack of getting yourself into trouble.”
“We’re always in trouble! It follows us everywhere.”
“I made some cocoa and got engaged.”
“I can’t decide whether you’re a rogue, a halfwit, or both.”
“You squashed my favourite Beatles!”
“We’re trying to defeat the Daleks, not start a jumble sale!”
“No one mentioned cutting throats.”
“I am a citizen of the universe, and a gentleman to boot.”
“I keep my eyes open and my mouth shut.”
“You might almost say the Cyberman had a… complete metal breakdown.”
“Have you thought up some clever plan?”
“I’m going to bung a rock at it.”
“People spend all their time making nice things and then other people come along and break them!”
“Logic merely enables one to be wrong with authority.”
“Just pretend to be stupid. Think you can manage that?”
“I hate computers and refuse to be bullied by them!”
“Great jumping gobstobbers!”
“You, sir, are a nitwit.”
“Sometimes I think ‘military intelligence’ is a contradiction in terms.”
“… you ham-fisted bun vendor.”
“You were trying to make cocoa in my lab?!”
“Nuclear explosions? Take the usual precautions… sticky tape on windows, that sort of thing.”
“Do they have mice in Atlantis?”
“I never thought I’d have to fire in anger at a dratted caterpillar.”
“Would you like a jelly baby?”
“You’re standing on my scarf.”
“Call me ‘old girl’ again and I’ll spit in your eye.”
“Excuse me, can you help me? I’m a spy.”
“You’re just a mouth on legs.”
“Oh, you know how it is; you put things off for a day and next thing you know, it’s a hundred years later.”
“I speak treason fluently.”
“It’s more a mental stroll in a park of psychic tranquility.”
“A little gratitude wouldn’t irreetrievably damage my ego.”
“I shall beat it into submission with my charm.”
“We aren’t getting anywhere playing pat-a-cake with the wall.”
“You’re bonkers.”
“Guns can seriously damage your health, you know.”
“Are you trying to be funny?”
“Absence makes the nose grow longer.”
“A bird in the hand keeps the Doctor away.”
“Every dogma has its day.”
“Two wrongs don’t make a left turn.”
“Time and tide melts the snowman.”
“One tends to expect advice from one’s adviser.”
“Do me a favour and drown yourself.”
“You’re a nice guy, but a little weird…”
“Anybody remotely interesting is mad in some way or another.”
“These shoes! They fit perfectly!”
“Am I being abducted?”
“Go to hell, sir.”
“Are you capable of speaking without flapping your hands about?”
“I came first in jiggery pokery.”
“I failed hullabaloo.”
“What the Shakespeare is going on?”
“I’ve never been slapped by someone’s mother.”
“Excuse me, do you mind not farting while I’m saving the world?”
“Are you my mummy?”
“That is textbook enigmatic.”
“They think I’m in drag!”
“Oh… I should have realised. He’s into musical theatre.”
“I can save the universe using a kettle and some string. And look at me, I’m wearing a vegetable!”
“I’m going to report you for… madness!!”
“I point and laugh at archaeologists.”
“Please desist from striking me.”
“I was promised tea!”
“Have you got space teeth?!”
“A poncho. The biggest crime against fashion since lederhosen.”
“Let’s die looking like a Peruvian folk band.”
“Okay, this is bad. At the moment I don’t know how bad, but certainly we’re three buses, a long walk, and eight quid in a taxi from good.”
“I’m the clever one, you’re the potato one!”

Right, there was a time difference… She could lie. It would make explanations a lot easier. But she didn’t lie. It wasn’t that she couldn’t, she just didn’t, and she wasn’t going to start now.
"Two-thousand three. I think. I mean, I’m pretty sure I was twenty-two before… and then it’s been seven years since then, and… I should probably explain some things, shouldn’t I?" Grimacing, she ran a gloved hand through her hair nervously, glancing away.
"What kind of life have you known?"
"Better than some. Certainly not a dull one."

She smiled slightly. ”I don’t know much about movies, but... books..." Her head tilted as she thought. "I don't mind inaccurate portrayals. I was the first of the five of us, of my... species? I only became what I am seven years ago, so everything before that doesn't really matter in its accuracy. I rather like Anne McCaffrey's dragons. Intelligent, telepathic, with life-long bonds to their riders that will never be betrayed..." She paused, that particular train of thought becoming painful, and moved to a different point.
"Dragons tend to fill archetypes in stories. The vicious, insatiable enemy that's overcome by the self-controlled hero, the powerful force of nature that's conquered by perseverance or cleverness or sometimes can only hope to be survived at best... I don't usually mind those portrayals, in filling a role in a story. Of course, in the past several years there has been a lot of anti-dragon propaganda back home... lies such as those bother me." Her tone became darker at this, underlying frustration evident. It made their own duties that much harder when people believed they kidnapped children and ate anyone seeking an audience...
"Anything you want to say?"
"Not… particularly," Jake said as he arched an eyebrow at the dragon. "Something on your mind?"

((Apparently Ardere is in a low mood tonight. I swear she's not always having such an existential crisis... just... quite often. I should have Anil talk to her about that...))

Ardere frowned, looking down at her hands. ”I don’t always think about it that closely, but… you make a fair point. I honestly don’t know. There’s a pretty distinct line back home between the five of us and humans. It seems less marked here, though."
She was quiet for a moment. "Still... most of my human life is gone. Memories of my childhood, of growing up, of my family... my earliest memory is betrayal and fire and death. What keeps a soul human when all it knows is that?"
"You have no idea what I’m capable of."
Sanya looked to the woman in front of him, tall and thin and blonde.
"Zhen show me." He said.

"Hmm." Ardere considered this, then nodded.
"Combine that with an initial distraction to divert the attention of the enemy and it may work. Even in the dark, getting close or bringing them close enough to the ambush will be tricky. The trick will be to not give away the ambush before the trap is sprung, which will require a large enough diversionary force to keep their attention."
She grinned, showing her teeth as she followed the line of thought further. She wasn't really paying much attention to the council itself now. "Or, a diversionary force which seems large. Make enough noise and motion in the dark and it will seem to be a larger force than it actually is, allowing the ambush to sprung."
"Shut up or I'll bite you."
Send me "Shut up or I'll bite you."

She considered his own scar quietly, replacing her glove and shaking her head at the offer of his flask. ”I see. I… don’t drink, but thanks.” He had the manner of someone who fought for others, a recognizable demeaner she had come to be very familiar with over the past years. Most like that had blood on their hands in some way or another, some more strikingly than others.
"It may not make me less of a being, but I haven’t been human for years." She smiled ruefully. "My existence is an attempt to make things better for people, and I had to lose my own humanity for it to be so."
"You have no idea what I’m capable of."

She nodded. ”I see. Sorry, it's... something I notice about people." Ardere frowned slightly, processing more closely what the woman said. "Great wars? I am glad those were before my time..."
"What kind of life have you known?"
"Better than some. Certainly not a dull one."

Ardere frowned. "Too much, and not enough of it's focused... I get headaches here, everything comes in fuzzy and undefined and I can't focus well enough to teleport unless it's to go back home." Not that she wanted to, anyway. The function of her teleportation was very specific.
"It's just... conversation can help me push it away." She snorted, shaking her head. "Unfortunately, conversation's something I'm not always good at."
"Anything you want to say?"
"Not… particularly," Jake said as he arched an eyebrow at the dragon. "Something on your mind?"
