PSA - New Tumblr Account/Username Change
Wow I completely spaced out updating this blog until I had to login to opt out of AI (I have...too many tumblrs) but I AM actually active, I just changed my username last summer and made a new tumblr blog.
Arborpunk -> Corvarrow
You can find me here:
~~ https://corvarrow.tumblr.com/ ~~
I can't justify a separate FR blog at the moment and am mostly just posting original stuff but! Please feel free to follow me if you are interested and I will most likely follow you back!

OK this new gene is really rad! Though I noticed that the raggedy part of Flare has a very similar footprint to seraph’s wing edges on some breeds....and this meme is all I could think of I am so sorry (no shade to seraph tho its also a very nice gene!)
this is sapphire/ultramarine/mint btw

I can’t believe I almost forgot to post this here but I redid my forum signature!! I think the old one is still pretty good looking, but I had been looking for something easy to redraw and that was older than I thought so....tada!

This update...let me tell you about this update guys. I’m having Big Conflict lmao. On one hand: best update ever. Wow, legit very happy. On the other hand, there’s drama everywhere and drama in general stresses me out actually. It’s very distracting.  ಠ_ಠa;;;
But anyway! I am hoping that this update possibly brings more...hmmm...dragon variety back to the fodder market. I have noticed that (for me anyway) breeding projects have gotten significantly more difficult since the original eye update, not just for the Eye Issue, but actually getting a color range within target. I kind of have a suspicion that people were cranking out certain popular ranges specifically to get special eyes in that range, but then it just makes a ton of certain ranges of dragons and not thaaat much variety. (Example: my shadow/tomato/rust project taking 4 months when there are like fifty billion black/red range/red range dragons. So close, and yet, so far away) So I’m hoping now that we have some control again we will be able to see some more random dragons coming into the AH as people plan and breed new projects C: I think it will be nice

Emerging from The Void to share this breeding project I recently finished!! It took a surprisingly long time. I’ve been trying to get this combo (shadow/tomato/rust) since veilspun released, however most dragons in that particular secondary/tertiary red range have some type of black-range primary...no one is really breeding into the purples on purpose so I had to kind of just cross my fingers, checking the AH every day in hopes that people’s random fodder pairs would throw out something I could use 8|a;
But anyway! I did it! No name or lore or anything yet but he is beautiful and I love him

Got my RoR reject skin back! It's called "Unknowable Meat". There are 4 copies on the AH. I got a couple comments about it pre-RoR but wasn't sure about printing interest. Regardless this turned out So Strange that I absolutely could not resist making it a reality and at least doing a small run.
Here's a dummy, two of my dragons, and a random AH multigaze guy. Mr Multigaze sure is something. Mwah, beautiful *chef kiss*

This is actually going on my IG sometime later this week (you can see my handle on there - ArborMakesArt), but I decided I might as well just post this here too since it’s relevant and already has the right formatting. And I can make a lot more commentary! Under a cut. Its the step by step of how I made the art of My Son the other day and kinda what happened during the process
1 - Extreme Rough - This is a pretty small thumbnail that I scanned and worked on digitally. This was a huge challenge since its been a long time since I colored more than one character in a drawing. If it were the same species it would be one thing but I needed to play around digitally for a while to get the scale of the dragon figured out. By the way I fount it was lot easier to just block out a shape for him than to do thinner lines, not sure why that is (maybe easier to process the volume?) but I thought that was interesting
2 - Sketch pass 1 - Entirely digital, still rough but now it’s looking like something
3 - Sketch pass 2 - Pencil. I printed out #2, stuck it on a lightbox, and refined the lines. I’ve never worked this way (digital to traditional) but it turned out way better than expected. He looks so cute :D
4 - Ink Lines - Printed out a copy of #3, inked using lightbox. Normally I’d spend forever going over lines trying to thicken them up but I was trying to refrain from overworking them and did this all in one pass. I was very proud of myself |D
5 - Flat Color - Yeah so actually for the most part it went really well, it just took forever getting the blending and this is also a large piece of paper. I’ve never tried coloring a glowing orb traditionally so that required a lot of pondering, but it was fun. However. After the flat colors were done was when the problems started.
FR colors don’t exist in markers, so I had to layer them a lot in order to get an approximation. So when I started trying to shade this, instead of layering some more, the paper reached it’s saturation point sooner than I guessed and just started pushing the colors around into a gross mess instead. For example the whole back of the dragon’s neck that would be in shadow smeared itself together. I didn’t get a scan of this because it was very upsetting, but thankfully stopped trying to marker shade before it did too much more damage.
6 - Shading Attempt and other stuff - Now I had to try to hide the color-smeared parts and shade more than I wanted to with colored pencils; I had planned to use them mostly just for highlights. And then...this next part was my fault. 8) I have an old set of pencils that younger me had a Big Fumble Day with and dropped, several times, in a row. I’ve dubiously microwaved them multiple times since then, figured they were all still shattered, decided to use them here anyway, lo and behold, they are all in fact, still shattered. Every time I thought about sharpening, immediate breakage. Tips falling out left and right. Barely got enough usable pieces out of the colors I needed to get this to a ‘close enough’ kind of state. I held onto them for a long time because they cost so much originally but obviously I just need to throw what’s left away and get a new set.
So that’s how this went! The ending was a struggle and so frustrating, an exclamation point to a generally terrible last week I was having. Although its not originally what I was hoping for I don’t think this is a bad piece or anything. Sometimes you know....stuff just happens. There is a lot I do like and I learned a lot of misc little things throughout the process. The colors are really pretty! And I love the lines a lot. He’s adorable and he’s one of my favorite characters anyway so I’m always so pleased every time he turns out nice. |Da The pencil pass lives on its own piece of paper from the finished one so I can still pull it out and enjoy that version whenever I want too.

Finally finished with this!! My favorite dragon, along with the original character he is based on, who is wearing an outfit inspired by said dragon. His name is Cavi, and he is a light elemental/mage (of an original humanlike race which is so complicated we are not getting into it here lmao.) If I were to describe him really briefly, I would say that he falls into the category of "looks really goofy/troublemaker, but is actually a super nice person." He acts as a 'boss' for a smallish group of other characters ~ coordinating people in order to accomplish tasks, procuring various things for the group, acting as a mediator, and also acting as a representative of the group. etc. He is pretty smart and comes off as quite serious - this group even memes on his apparent lack of humor sometimes, but in reality he just runs VERY subtle and dry.
I hit some....material related snags in the very late stages of coloring, so it didn't quite turn out the way I envisioned it as far as lighting goes. I considered redoing it digitally, but I already spent so much time on this that I think I'm just going to take what I can from it and move along ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°);; At the VERY least, I've never tried to color a glowing ball effect with markers (only digital) so that was fun. The colors in general are still pretty. I also REALLY liked the lines for this in their various stages, so I’m happy that I got a few scans of them.

Messing around the other day and I drew....some Cavi!! Both his dragon form and his human form this time; he existed as a character before I started playing FR and I had just decided to model this one dragon after him.
It took me like 7 whole years to finally design a little gijinka outfit for him though, agjdfgjdgjh Truly, what a year it has been

This was supposed to be just a regular ol’ ballpoint drawing of my boy Baal, but at some point it got waaaay out of hand. This accent looks so cool on him; its called “The Alchemist’s Mask” (ID #24330) by whiteraven90

I was messing around with some gouache I had from an old scrawlrbox and painted an autumn sphinx! I love the seasonal sphinxes a lot 8′D
I’ve never actually painted a full picture just with gouache before so this was kind of an interesting challenge for me. Took a long time!

I distinctly remember... if there were no dragons that exactly matched the colors/genes I needed to preview I would find two or three dragons with the correct parts (for example, one m imp with gray clown and a different m imp with red shimmer) and try to photoshop them together lmao
Anyone else remember the Dark Times when we couldn’t scry our dragons so we all just borrowed scrolls from each other so we could look at the previews

I couldn’t decide which one of these (lines or color) I liked the most so....why not both? I just wanted to practice drawing banescales and also slightly dust off my tablet with some flat colors :O

Been real quiet due to attempting inktober this month, but here’s a random thought I was having last night!!
It’s pencil with two mostly dry Light Cerulean Blue markers + some other color for contrast, + a teeny bit of white pencil/pen/paint marker
