a friend just tipped me off about Fund a Kitchen in Gaza, a free tool that helps you locate and donate to community kitchens currently serving some of Gaza's most vulnerable!

this lets you choose a region (south, central, north) and see which kitchens operate in that area, then donate to as many as you can.

as a reminder, community kitchens try to buy and cook in bulk, which makes ingredients last longer & sustain more people in the conditions of extreme scarcity that Israel is imposing right now. they are also able to serve people on the ground who may not have the means to reach out online.

so, whether through this tool or not, please do support community kitchens, as well as mutual aid groups that cover additional needs, such as the Sameer Project (meals, tents, cash aid, medical aid) and Dahnoun Mutual Aid (meals, tents, baby supplies, cash aid, winter clothes).

I think at some point in time we need to sit down and start explaining to artist who want to make a career out of art that there are FAR more options than just "living off of commissions" and "posting my art online and praying I get paid for it".

I can't lie, I find it very odd that posts cautioning people against donating to individual* campaigns and promoting the idea of supporting mutual aid efforts and community kitchens in Gaza can rack up 10k+ notes--while a post promoting a community kitchen (that I can personally vouch for) struggles to get 1k notes, and has barely pulled in a couple hundred dollars over the past week.

I actively try to avoid using guilting tactics in fundraising, but this is weird to me. It's like people are using these posts as an excuse not to do things they already didn't want to do anyway, rather than actually taking their recommendations on board...

*In my experience, these campaigns often support large extended families + their neighbours

Something i also wanted to say about Athena's and Odysseus' reunion.

It had to be bittersweet and a reprise of Warrior of The Mind because in that moment, both Athena and Ody wanted to be heroes and change the world. They had a dream of a better future

Sadly the world didnt help. They weren't ready

And here is Athena, who learned her lesson, asking Odysseus again if he wants to be her champion

But Ody declines, because he no longer wants that. He never did. He is old, he lived adventures ... and he only wants to be with his family now. Because those were always his dream: a better future for his family, not for everyone else.

That's why Athena understands and leaves by the end of the song. She also knows her friend is old, that he is just a man with just one life. He has the chance to make the best of it now.
