I still have a childhood interest and fondness for racehorses and racing jockeys, and as a result I have things like “favorite casual photos of Willie Shoemaker”. A problem when jockeys are your favourite athletes is that they are sometimes depicted as being picked up like cats. On the other hand, an amusing thing about having jockeys as your favourite athletes is that there are sometimes pictures of them being picked up like cats. Legendarily talented athlete, phenomenal control of horses, tremendous physical courage, pick him up like a cat!!!

So I had a hysterectomy today (hooray!) and I brought along my stuffed orca, Shamu, as a comfort object. And everyone i interacted with during my pre-op was like "Oh! Who's this?" so I was telling them all about him, how he's been with me since I was 9 and gone on every single vacation and road trip, and they were telling me about their own stuffed buddies (one lady said she still has hers after 40 years!) and all of this while I was signing consent forms and providing a list of the things I'd brought with me, you know, small talk.

So then a nurse comes over and goes "Okay, I've got some stickers I'll put on your things so we know they're yours" and I'm like "OK cool" so she puts a sticker on my coat and stickers on my bags of clothes and then she turns to Shamu and I'm like "oh I guess he gets a sticker too"

But no. She pulls out a hospital bracelet that's an exact copy of mine and slaps it on his tail, like so:

And i was delighted by this, so I took a picture to send to my friends, who were equally delighted, and were cracking me up with their reactions (like so:)

Anyway, they take me back and put me under, and when I awake groggily a few hours later it takes me a minute to get my bearings, so I don't notice Shamu at first. But then I realize he's tucked up next to me in the gurney, so I grab him, and my hand touches gauze.

And I'm like "huh?" so I look at him and I realize

They gave my fucking orca a hysterectomy

I'm going to take this in the very kind spirit with which I hope it was intended.

I'm not on T at the moment, have never been, possibly never will be. I am on medication to stop periods because I have a disorder that makes them a) pointless, and b) extra horrible, but that doesn't mean they don't sneak through the net sometimes.

I am non-binary, and that does mean the period stuff that does happen makes me hella disphoric, and that does suck.

All of that said, I'm really open about my medical situation, but I know a lot of people would take this very differently, so please be cautious offering medical advice ❤️

there's a really funny 3d printing controversy going on btw.

if you don't know, there's a very popular 3d printing model out there called "benchy". this is used for benchmarking your 3d printer because it's a difficult print and will help test it out.

this is so widely used that people make their own little versions of it, remixing the 3d model to make benchy look cooler and stuff. however, a new company owns the benchy license. they are sending copyright takedowns to all those who wrongfully uploaded the benchy model.

of course, this is pissing off the 3d printing community greatly. everyone loved benchy and have used it for years. so someone on reddit decided to make a new model that is designed as a 3d printing stress test. one that works a lot like benchy, and people are freely able to edit it as they please. you know what they called it?
