after a month and a half of planning, building, rebuilding, glazing, and praying it survived the kiln, my altar (and monument) for lady aphrodite is finished and at home on my altar!!

this was the final project for my ceramics class this semester and im super proud of it!! it truly felt like lady aphrodite was with me guiding my hand through the whole process, reminding me how beautiful it is that i’m able to craft something like this with my own hands 💓💓

Hello all - I'm alive! I've been swamped with work, unfortunately, so I've not been as active as I'd like. Hopefully, I'll be back soon, though.

In the meantime, do remember a few things.

If you think the Gods are mad at you, chances are, that's your anxiety talking. Ask them about it. Talk to them.

If you're worried about whether or not something is an acceptable offering, ask them. Or put it on your altar and wait for a response.

Mythic literalism kills media literacy and critical thinking. Look at these parables and myths with an open lens - You'll learn more that way.

Don't be afraid to dip your toes into the unknown. Experience is an amazing teacher. Yes, this also includes making mistakes. Mistakes are inevitable. Do not be afraid to slip.

Keep your eyes on your practice. You can learn from others, but there is no reason to be critical of someone who practices differently from you. Unless, of course, they are actively spreading misinformation.

You cannot be anti-DEI, a Fascist, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic, etc and worship the Old Gods. You cannot be hateful while worshipping them. Pick one.

I am especially harping on the previous point considering recent political events and the invasion of safe spaces. You cannot be hateful and worship these Gods.

Be kind to each other. Do not prioritize the material. Walk alongside your siblings as though they are all you have. And keep your head up high. Do not stand for intolerance, and make them hear your voice.

can i say something controversial as an aphrodite devotee….

i dont care if a non-helpol compares themselves to aphrodite, and i think dogpiling in comments saying “you cant say that its disrespectful and she’ll curse you with ugliness” is rude and unnecessary.

the whole hellenic religion is based off of Kharis. the gods don’t know and don’t care what randoms who think they are a percy jackson character think of them. they just dont. lady aphrodite isn’t leaving her nymphs on olympus to curse some stranger on the internet because they said they were prettier than her. she. doesn’t. care. and neither should we as devotees!

and dont even get me started on when someone just MENTIONS aphrodite while acknowledging their beauty. i’ve seen people get pissy that someone said they were blessed by aphrodite or looked like aphrodite.

lady aphrodite is beauty in and of itself. she is not a human and isnt beholden to human concepts like race, gender, or beauty standards. lady aphrodite is the beauty we see within ourselves and within others people. she is not a character with an unchanging physical form, she is the ever-changing energy of beauty and love.

aphrodite can be depicted/imagined in any color, shape, ability, appearance, size, etc., because she IS. she is the embodiment of beauty in all its forms.

Words of advice: Don't let this horribly unimaginative, boring, high standard world crush and can you into something you aren't. Lose those friends. Lose that family. Lose the learned fear through learning and therapy. I used to be a slave to other peoples perception of me and would cater to my ex friends' insecurities so I wouldn't be judged/embarrass them by being me. Now idgaf. Be "ugly", be happy, be wild, laugh as loudly as you want, eat what you want, dance however you want, take up space (it is yours as much as it is theirs), consume life as it is meant to be consumed. Loose yourself in the pleasure of happiness, not in the negativity of others.
