Tumblr media
Neteyam was everything you could've asked for... and more.
As you slowly but surely started to reach the end of your pregnancy, the last stages just looming over your shoulders, he was always there for you. You were becoming more irrational, and there was no doubt in your mind that you were annoying everyone you came into contact with. But, each and every one of them seemed to understand, and none better than Neteyam.
Your mate was constantly by your side - physically or mentally - tending to your every need and abiding by your every request. Hormones getting the better of you, you also started to take your problems and own annoyances out on him. It was completely unfair and it always made you feel incredibly guilty and horrible in the end, crying your eyes out in your mate's arms as all you could do was apologise profusely.
But, not once did he hold it against you. No - instead of taking every harsh word you uttered to him to heart, instead of truly believing that you meant them, he allowed the blows and the insults to be thrown his way, soaking them in until your temper died down and there was nothing but an exhausted, drained and broken girl in front of him. After that, he'd soothe your apologies, caging you in his arms protectively, stroking both the top of your head and your expanding stomach whilst he assured you he understood that you hadn't meant all those words, that it was okay.
He'd insist that he didn't mind taking such aggravation, not when you were doing all the hard work... not when you were carrying his entire world on your shoulders.
To no surprise of anyone, his family were as perfect as they could be, too, always either giving you a helping hand, or steering clear less they want to say the wrong thing. It was obvious from the very start of the stark differences between the two sides of Neteyam's - and, you guess, your own - family.
When it came to those that were always supportive and understanding, it was always the girls. Neytiri would constantly make sure that you were the most comfortable in any situation you found yourself in, wanting to ensure that the mother was safe and healthy before anything else; Kiri was, without fail, bringing you different concotions made by both herself and Mo'at that helped ease your pain and soothe your anxieties; and Tuk, consistently babbling about how excited she is to finally meet her niece or nephew, planning out how all she's going to do when they arrive is dote on them. Each of them had created their own roles to play in your pregnancy, and each one comfortably took your mind off the worries that were swirling around, believing that simply nothing could go wrong when you had such beautiful people around you all the time.
On the complete other side, there were the boys. Both Jake and Lo'ak were different stories compared to the rest of their families - whilst the two of them were as excited and eager to meet your baby, too, neither one of them wanted to really get too involved, something that didn't exactly bother you, rather just making you giggle at their reactions. They gave you as much space as possible, too scared to get too close in case they either annoyed you or did something wrong. Whilst Jake had done this many times before, gone through several of these similar experiences with his own mate, he didn't want to overstep any boundaries between yourself and his eldest son, considering he had no idea what it was like carrying a baby for so long. And, Lo'ak... Lo'ak was just scared of his older brother.
After all, you were now considered delicate, and they knew if something happened to you, they'd be on the feral side of Neteyam... something neither of them particularly wanted to experience any time soon.
But, there was one thing that you couldn't stand during all of this, and, surprisingly, it wasn't anyone else trying to help.
It was Neteyam, and the fact that he wouldn't touch you.
Way more often than you were used to, you found yourself feeling sexually frustrated, the only thing you needed being for yourself and Neteyam to be intimate in the same way that got you in this situation in the first place. You narrowed your sudden feelings down to the fact that it had been so long - whilst the two of you never really had sex all the time before becoming pregnant, after being denied of your wants for an excruciatingly long period of time now, you were slowly teetering over the edge.
And, it wasn't as though you weren't trying, either. Your attempts of kissing him sensually, gaining beautiful-sounding moans out of him before he forced himself away from you; touching him explicitly, feeling him shudder under your grasp, before he moved himself impossibly further away from you, eyes scrunched tight as he held himself back; laying yourself bare for him when he go home, before he sighed dejectedly and shook his head, doing his damn best to ignore you... all to waste.
Neteyam just couldn't stand the idea of hurting you or the baby.
Sure, you guess you could understand where he was coming from, too, considering neither of you had been in this situation before, having no idea if having sex could harm either one of you, and the both of you were too prideful to ask someone else about it. So, you were stuck in what felt like a never-ending loop, enjoying itself as it tortured you blissfully.
But, you had never been so frustrated in your entire life.
The day had, once again, been a long and tiring one for the two of you, trying to let sleep overtake your entire senses and succumb to the world beyond. You were lay down upon your mat, the two of you on your sides - something that always felt more comfortable against the pains in your stomach, so Neteyam was happy to oblige - as your mate's front curls into your figure, his tail automatically wrapping itself around your bump protectively, like it always did, like a ritual.
That's when you started to feel it.
Your mind was beginning to deny you of any sleep anyway, your arousal once again getting the better of you as it painted your wanted desires within the forefront of you mind's eye until there was nothing else you could think of. But, it seemed as though Neteyam was feeling something, too - a bulge poking against your lower back, throbbing gently every now and again like it was demanding your attention, like it was excited.
For a moment, you wondered if Neteyam had even noticed his own predicament, considering he was the one so desperate to not engage in this way, and now he's aching. It's ironic that the roles have suddenly reversed, and you wonder how next to play this out.
Taking in a shuddering breath when you feel his tail subconsciously stroke against your skin, you weigh up your options - you could either ignore it completely, knowing it'll be a fight to get him to give into you, allowing the sultry thoughts within your mind to be the only release you'd get... or, you could take control for yourself.
In no time at all, you decide upon the latter. It wasn't much of a decision to make, either, too wrapped up in the sensations you knew only he could give you, wanting nothing but him all over you.
You start of with the barest of movements, not wanting to completely pounce on him in surprise, knowing that if you did, he'd get angry. The best way to get him to give in was always going to be to get him weak. Fidgeting about in place, barely moving, you pretend as though you're subconsciously trying to get comfortable - after all, who was he to say that you weren't when carrying a Na'vi around constantly?
A small moan sounds behind you, under his breath like he hadn't meant for it to spill from his lips, but it already has you smirking slightly. Instantly, you know he wants this just as much as you do, and if your plan works how you intend it to, you'll both be falling asleep blissful and satisfied after too long of denying yourselves.
Your next step is start rubbing your ass against his bulge, but ensuring your movements stay slow, so as not to arouse him so suddenly. At the feel of him against you in such a sensual way, a breathy sigh leaves your lips, eyes fluttering closed as you forget how much you truly enjoyed the feel of his cock anywhere on you.
Just as you’re enjoying yourself, your ass continuing to rub painfully slow against his excitement, there's a rough hand placed firmly along the side of your hip. It's not too tight a grip, not wanting to hurt you or possibly bruise you, but it's enough to hold you down in place and stop your movements from carrying on any further. "Stop," Neteyam almost demands, voice gruff as though he's just woken up, which means he'd been dreaming about taking you like he always loved to.
His one word command does practically the complete opposite of its original purpose, however - instead of listening and giving into him, it only seems to fuel your fire, adding on to your already painful arousal. The way he said the word, sounding so authoritative and annoyed and just sexy has you wanting more, more, more. It definitely wasn't in his plans to have you reacting such a way, but you couldn't help yourself anymore, too far gone. This was the closest you'd been to one another in this way for too long.
Your response to him is a whimper, pathetic and pleading, as you force your hips to move once more despite him hand still placed firmly on you. When your ass brushes against his cock again, he hisses, the sensation no doubt sending him into overdrive, whilst his fingers hold a tighter grip, automatically indenting themselves into your skin.
"Please," you whine, breaths uneven and you were barely even touching each other. "Neteyam, please."
There's a brief moment of silence that lingers between the two of you as your words evaporate into the surrounding air, yourself guessing that it's now Neteyam's turn to weigh up the options set out before him. Unfortunately, he knows you like he knows the back of his own hand, meaning it's obvious straight away that you wont give in now that you're this close to getting what you want. Besides, despite having seen you plead for him to just touch you before you fell pregnant in a way that had him excited, he's never heard you like this - desperate, anguished, and downright aching.
It makes him feel more thrilled than he'd like to admit - especially to you, right in this moment.
With a sigh of defeat, Neteyam knows there's not much else he can do other than give you what you want - although, he could change how he does it. He removes his hand from your waist, tail staying still in its place like always, fidgeting about. You're unsure as to what exactly he's doing, not words or explanations exchanged, rather just letting him do what he wants. For a second, you wonder if your plan had backfired, and he was moving further away from you, or possibly even leaving. The thought has your heart aching in displeasure.
But, then all thoughts are wiped from your mind when you begin to feel a gentle prod against your soaked entrance, subconsciously lifting one of your legs slightly higher in the air at the sensation, before Neteyam is sheathing himself fully inside you. His hand closest to you wraps around your elevated leg to relieve you of the annoyance of lifting it up yourself. When all you can really feel is Neteyam, no longer empty but warm and full, a guttural moan escapes your lips before you can trap it, your hand coming up to slap over your mouth, eyes closed tightly as you take him whole.
You hadn't truly realised how long it had been since you last felt him this way until now. Curse him and his damn protective instincts.
In just seconds, you want nothing more than to chase more of that feeling, more of that euphoric sensation, rubbing yourself impossibly closer to him as the tip of his cock hits such a sweet spot, you're sure you're with the Great Mother in some type of beautiful heaven right now.
Before you can go any further, though, Neteyam's palm finds your hip again, stopping you in place and this time, you don't bother trying to hold yourself back. The whimpers and whines that leave your throat at such a denial are mewling and pitiful, writhing about to relieve yourself of his hold, but he's relentless. Somehow, his entire body is closer to you than it was last time, faces inches away from one another as he brings his lips to your ear. At first, all you can decipher are breathless pants as his chest heaves up and down from trying to hold himself back. "No," he grunts, puffing as he attempts to gain control once more, "we're not doing that. We're going to stay like this - that's the best I'll give you."
This time, it's a groan that falls from your lips, one that sounds almost painful but you're too annoyed to care, cursing out everything for Neteyam being such a gentleman. All you want is for him to fuck you - was that so much to ask? You're not even sure if the situation you've put yourselves in is any better than having nothing, either, because now you can feel all of him entirely, can feel how excited he is to finally be inside you as his cock throbs in pleasure at being snuggled between your walls. Now, it just feels like a taunt of what you could have.
He chuckles softly against your ear at your reaction, still having not moved - and he probably wouldn't now, not unless he wanted to really feel you. The teasing smile is wiped off his features after a second, however, and replaced by one of sympathy, words becoming softer than they were before. "I'm sorry, muntxate (wife), I really don't want to hurt you or our 'evenge (girl)."
There's just a brief split second where his loving words filter through you and knock your senses apart - of course, he wouldn't want to hurt his girls, he wouldn't be able to live with himself if he ever did. The idea of anyone harming either of you drove him insane, let alone the cause of your pain being him. But, your fleeting emotions cascade into ones of just pure desire, filtering in one ear and out the other until your mind is nothing but a hazy cloud, panting desperately for more.
You give yourself a moment to just breathe, to not hyperventilate at the exultant feeling of him fully inside you. Neteyam assures that his grip stays firm against your hip, not wishing to relent against his own commands so easily, but he does rub his thumb in a soothing circle, painting your skin with a reminder of how much he loves both you and your child.
You're quick to move your hips again, eyes staying closed as you imagine everything he could be doing to you right now, rubbing yourself against him entirely. Immediately, your mate tightens his fingers in his grasp, a clear warning sign for you to stop in your teasing, to just bask in the embrace of one another and say that's enough.
Yet, it isn't enough. It's nowhere near being enough for you. There's a feeling of being slightly impressed at the restraint he's showing to you, and irritated all the same, until another idea comes to your mind.
Smiling a little smugly to yourself, already knowing what you're about to do next is something he definitely cannot resist based on the previous times you've done it, you clench your fluttering walls around his length, taking him whole and tightly. Your own actions cause a breath of blissful relief to pass through your slightly parted lips, loving the way you can feel his cock throb even more.
Another hiss sounds against your ear, his grip tightening, but this time, so does his tail as it continues to stay wrapped firmly around your bulging figure, the end vibrating in a fever of both agitation and anticipation. Even his body desires it, but he wont allow his mind to. He's starting to pant a little more frequently, too, now, like he's weakening at the seams, and that's when you know you have him exactly where you want him.
You continue to clench around him, bringing your hips up and down his length at a tantalisingly slow pace to ensure he feels every inch of you, hitting every spot of your walls. There's a feeling of triumph coursing through you when he no longer attempts to stop you in your teasing movements, knowing he's finally allowed himself to give into you entirely. Instead, the hand that was once gripping your hip snakes its way around your front, fondling against your breasts as he squeezes them sensually. When he moves to the other one, wanting to give it the same attention, he pinches your nipple, loving how sensitive they are due to your pregnant state, eliciting a deep moan from the back of your throat, no longer caring if anyone else can hear you.
"You're a little minx, you know that?" he taunts, words a harsh whisper against your ear but you don't care - not when the once slow movements between the two of you suddenly increase in their pace as Neteyam takes over. The alternating grip, too, against your breasts tightens, constantly squeezing them as he soaks in how swollen they feel. "Always getting what you want."
The tip of his cock repeatedly probes against that sweet, spongy part within you so beautifully as his thrusts continue to increase in their speed. Your mate almost feels feral with his actions, perhaps finally realising that he shouldn't have denied the two of you the pleasure of one another, not when you were so needy. Not wanting to stop clenching around him as he moves in and out of you in a relentless pace, you can feel your release quickly approaching already, no doubt having felt forsaken for so long - you're sensitive enough as it is being pregnant.
"Neteyam-" you moan beautifully, breathily, like a songcord to your mate's ears, sure he's never head you sound so ethereal before. You have to cut yourself off as you moan in pleasure when you start to feel his balls slapping sensually against your skin, the warm sensation within wrapping around you like a blanket, one you never want to get rid of.
He brings his head closer than it already was, burying his face within the crook of your neck, inhaling deeply. Sometimes he wishes he could drown in your scent, more so than ever now that you're pregnant - somehow, you managed to emit an even more delicious scent than before. Sucking against your particular sweet spot he knows you adore having his attention on, he ensures to leave behind at least a small mark, wishing for the entire clan to know that you were his, even though you're carrying his firstborn, wanting to be sure.
Lips moving feverishly against your warm skin as he continues to fuck you at a pace that was relentless, your pleasing moans scratching against the back of your throat, he eventually finds himself at your ears, placing soft kisses against them. The sensation has them fluttering in satisfaction, but then he trails down to suck harshly against your jaw, and your breath stutters, whining. "Mmm," he hums against your skin, now resorting to placing gentle kisses when he was once rough. "What is it, sevin (pretty)?"
In all this time, whilst his mouth was focused elsewhere, not once had his thrusts faltered, loving the way you’re so drunk on him entirely.
"I'm - I'm so close, 'teyam," you mewl, eyes slightly rolling to back of your head as he grunts at yet another clench from you around his cock, before you close them shut when they start to tear up.
"I know," he agrees, words just a breathy whisper, already being able to understand how close you truly are from the way you feel around him. It feels like his mind is on fire as your walls flutter from being so close to release, clenching and unclenching around him, having lost its rhythm. His pants are becoming more erratic now, bearing down upon you, but it makes you feel alive. "I'm close, too."
Quickly, knowing that the two of you wont be able to last much longer, he brings his queue forward, the tendrils reaching out as he then connects it with your own awaiting one. Movements now becoming sloppy and uncoordinated, but continuing to hit right at your cervix, your eyes widen as you start to feel everything he currently is - all the love, the desire, the frustration - bathing in one another like two pieces of a puzzle only made for you two.
Burying his head back in the crook of your neck, hand moving down to caress your swollen baby bump - one that's just moons away from its expected day - he whispers sweet nothings against your skin, wanting to tattoo them into you so you'll never forget them. Words like I love you, you're so beautiful, I can't wait to make more, having you crooning somehow more than ever, feeling him peppering kisses to you now.
It's not long after that when the two of you are finally releasing together, explicit moans and grunts escaping your lips as your arousal's become spent. "Neteyam, Neteyam, Neteyam-" you repeat his name like a prayer, having never sounded more amazing to your mate.
You can feel the mixture of your cum with his against Neteyam's cock, awaiting the feeling of becoming empty and cold when he removes himself from you and lets it trickle between your thighs. But, nothing of the sort happens. Rather, your mate stays put, keeping his cock in your warmth, snug, and therefore, keeping all his cum pushed further in you - something he's always loved to do.
Eyes closed in bliss, mouth parted as you try to catch your breath, Neteyam gives your stomach a few tender taps, garnering your attention. Before you can fully move your head on your own, Neteyam's hand moves to cup the side of your face, bringing your noses together as you breathe one another in. He presses a forgiving kiss against your lips, letting them linger against one another, not wanting to pull away. "I didn't hurt you, did I?" he asks, the worry and concern evident in both his tone, but also the way you notice his ears droop and eyes glaze over just at the thought.
Looking up at him, you give him the most loving smile you could muster, shaking your head adamantly. "No, ma'teyam," your words are gentle, soothing, "we're both okay, I promise." You make sure to kiss him again with the same softness he gave you, wanting to ensure he completely understood that you meant every word, that you were okay.
This time, when you pull away, he nuzzles your noses together in a domestic way he's started to do since a few moons ago - the same way he likes to do it with your stomach, like he's doing it with your daughter. Pressing his forehead against your own, his eyes never once leave yours, full of adoration and devotion. "I'm sorry I was neglecting you..."
Instantly, your heart sinks at his words, your hand moving up to caress his cheek soothingly like he does yours. You can hear the despair and brokenness behind his voice, and it only pains you further - Neteyam couldn't have been a better mate throughout this entire journey together, but he didn't understand that. He always thought he had to be perfect, that he had to do everything right straight away, but this was a journey you were experiencing for the first time together.
Neteyam couldn't neglect you if he tried. He's too doting, too domesticated, too tender to even think about doing such a thing.
"You do not need to apologise, my muntxatan (husband). I understand why you were worried - but you never neglected me, not once. You were just scared, and so am I..." you pause, your once sympathetic and caring expression turning teasing and menacing, "...but, now that we know that it doesn't do either of us any harm, maybe we could do it more often..."
He chuckles at your words, watching as you bite your lips in mock thought, attempting to hide the sultry smile playing at your lips. It's like your words instantly managed to clear his worry, feeling it dissipate at your loving reassurance, until his eyes were bright and his smile wide, looking down at you like you held the entire universe within you.
In a way, he supposed you did.
"I guess we could..." he relents, his own tone turning into one of teasing, too, smirking as he brings your faces closer into a sensual kiss. This one is all tongues and teeth clashing together, feverish in anticipation to experience more together now that the worries once clouding over the two of you had begun to part.
As his hands roam over your body, from your jaw, to your neck, to your breasts, and finally to your stomach, caressing every inch of your skin like you were a painting, he moves to hover over you, mindful not to put his weight on top of you. A giggle falls from your lips at his sudden change in demeanour, but that's soon swallowed by another deep kiss that has your breath dispersing almost immediately.
It was safe to say, with the amount of times the two of you came together as one just during that particular night, if you weren't pregnant beforehand, you definitely would've been after that.

“Y/N!” the shriek that erupted from lo’ak’s throat was the last thing you heard before you blacked out
and the reason why you blacked out is the same reason why you’re here, at the tent, with kiri by your side
slowly but surely, your eyes open, automatically squinting at the harsh sunlight that peeked through the opening of the tent
a groan escapes from your lips when you instinctively sit up, a sharp pain throbbing in your head
“no no, lie down. you must.” kiri reaches out, softly placing you back down to your previous position
you smile at her comforting touch, allowing her to assist you as you clear your throat, “look at you, tsahik.”
she shakes her head in response, giving her signature eye roll, “how do you feel?”
“hurts like a b—”
“i got it from here, kiri.”
you look up to see your best friend, with a bag of fruits in one hand and a cupped leaf in the other
kiri quickly leaves the tent as she winks at lo’ak, earning a glare from him
as soon as kiri leaves, lo’ak sets down everything in his grasp to hold you, wanting to feel you in his arms again
“i thought i lost you,” he breathes, running his fingers through your hair as it was an instinct for him to do so
you hum, “you say that every time.”
he takes the leaf he set down earlier and brings the edge to your lips, “drink. it makes your head feel better, or at least… that’s what kiri told me.”
you blush as he tilts the leaf slightly so you could access the liquid easier, even though you’ve had countless intimate moments like these
“no more sneaking out with me,” he says, his heart beginning to hurt at the thought of you being in pain because of him again
soon after you swallowed the drink, you frown at his words, “but why?”
he looks at your eyes, then at your lips, and you were hoping that maybe, maybe then, he’d kiss you
a pause sets between you two before he reaches to swipe his thumb gently at the leftover liquid you have on your lips
you chuckle, deciding to tease him despite being quite flustered yourself from the sudden amount of physical touch he’s given you today
“you’re acting like you’re in love with me,” you smile at him, taking in the way his amber eyes stared back at you
he opens his mouth to say something, and the hope that you had seconds ago came rushing back to you, only wanting him to say that he was, in fact, in love with you
but he closes his mouth, gives you a small nod, and pats your shoulder
“get rest. i’ll meet you by the shore tonight.”
as he stands up, you grab his hand quickly, looking up at him with pleading eyes, “promise?”
he leans down again, squeezing your hand before giving you a kiss on the crown of your head
“promise.”

It Was Supposed To Be Us - Chapter 2
A/N: I'm a little new to writing angst so forgive me if it's not perfect yet, but I still hope you guys enjoy it. More to come in the later chapters. All characters are aged up.
Pairing: Neteyam x Fem!Omatikaya!Reader
Warnings: Making out, Alcohol, Intoxication, Angst (?), Mentions of Battles and Scars, I think that's it
Word Count: 3.4k
Summary: The whole clan prepares to celebrate the return of the Sully family and you struggle to come to grips with the plan your parents have for your life.
Helping your mother prepare dinner, you can’t help the smile that has been permanently plastered on your face. You finally feel complete again. The sun is brighter, the sky is bluer, and the colors of the forest are more vibrant. Your mom can see the goofy look on your face from the corner of her eye.
“You certainly seem to be in a better mood today.”
“Should I not be in a good mood? Today is a very special day. The Sully family has returned.” You say continuing to chop the vegetables.
Your mother presses her lips into a tight line, “You mean Neteyam has returned?”
Your smile grows a little wider. “Yes, he is a part of the family.” You try to not let your obvious joy show too much.
Your mother sighs deeply to herself and stops what she’s doing to turn towards you. “Ma’ite, I know that you are happy to see him again and he was a good friend to you, but that was so long ago now. You were children and now you are promised to another.” “Which was not my choice. I have already made my choice”, there is a tone of finality engraved in your words. You put down your knife and turn to face your mother.
“A choice that you made when you did not know any better. Things have changed. It is time to move on.” The agitation is growing in her voice.
“I love him.” Your voice is firm.
“You do not know him anymore! He does not know you anymore!” Her voice is firmer.
You drop your tools in place and stand to leave. You do not want to hear any more of this. You burst from your family’s tent and your thoughts are racing through your mind.
Mother doesn’t understand. She was convinced that what was between you was mere puppy love, but it was deeper than that…wasn’t it? Ridiculous, of course it was. And what was that nonsense about not knowing him anymore? Neteyam was Neteyam and you were you. You’ve always worked together. You hadn’t changed that much since he left…did you? Now, she has you questioning yourself.
What if Neteyam had moved on while you sat here and waited for him? Saved yourself for him? He was your first. Your first kiss, your first friend, your first love. But how many more firsts did he have while he was away? Did he lie awake at night thinking about you the way you did for him? Did he shed tears for you? Did he still want to give himself to you? Or was that all a silly childhood fantasy?
Your mom always had a talent for getting in your head. It frustrated you to no end. Almost any decision you made, it felt as if she wasn’t satisfied until she made you question yourself and ultimately go along with whatever decision she deemed to be the “correct” one.
How long have you been walking? Where were you?
You finally snap out of your endless barrage of thoughts and find yourself back at your usual spot. Apparently, you subconsciously brought yourself back to your safe spot. A deep sigh escapes your lips and you figure you might as well get comfortable.
Sitting on the forest floor, you listen to the sounds of the nearby waterfall. The sound of the raging waters mirrors the chaotic tempest of thoughts in your mind.
A twig snapping in the area pulls you from your thoughts. You turn to see a familiar figure coming towards you. You’d know the sway of those braids anywhere.
“There you are. I knew you’d probably be here. Old habits” he smiles down at you.
You offer your best attempt at a smile. You were actually happy to see him. You were ecstatic. But the doubts that now plagued your mind muddied your happiness. Neteyam sank down next to you on the ground. Even sitting down, he still sat a whole head taller than you.
“What is bothering you?”
“Why would anything be bothering me?” You try to play off the emotion that’s clearly written on your face.
“You forget who you’re talking to. I can tell when something is on your mind. Your tail is doing that little curly thing it does when something is on your mind. So, what is it that troubles you, sevin?” His hand covers yours in an attempt to offer you some comfort that you clearly needed. His hand has gotten even bigger than you remember. And he has more callouses from the years of training and fighting. But it still held that same gentle touch you knew him for.
Should you tell him the truth? You don’t want to lie to him. He’d probably be able to tell if you tried anyway. But what would it mean if you told him you were promised to another? Would it make his heart ache the way yours now did? You couldn’t handle it if you broke his heart. But that’s only if he still feels for you the way he used to. And now you feel even worse for doubting him. This was Neteyam you were talking about. Your Neteyam.
“I had an argument with my mother. It was stupid.” It wasn’t technically a lie, but it definitely wasn’t the full truth. You weren’t even ready to face that reality on your own, let alone dump it on Neteyam too.
He nods sympathizing with your situation. You remember how hard his dad could be on him before they left. If anyone understood parental frustration, it was Neteyam.
“It’s just…she has these expectations about what she thinks I should be doing with my life right now, but I don’t want what she wants. I’m trying to forge my own path and she feels the need to fight me at every turn. It’s infuriating.”
Neteyam chuckles lightly, “Oh yeah, I wouldn’t know anything about that” he says oozing sarcasm.
You playfully nudge his shoulder finally feeling a sincere smile play on your lips.
“Anyways, enough about me and my silly problems. I do not want to talk about her. But I do want to hear what the mighty warrior has been up to for the last 4 years. Give me all the details.” Your eyes watch him as he recounts the tales of his time away from the forest. Stories about joining the reef clan and learning their ways. Talking about the battle with the sky people and their eventual victory. You notice a particularly large scar that he definitely didn’t have when he left. “What happened with that one?”
“Which one?” he looks down at his body that was littered with various old scrapes and cuts from years of being a warrior.
Your fingers lightly trace the wound on his chest feeling the rough, raised skin. It was circular as if he had been impaled by an arrow. His eyes look down to where you’re touching, “That was from our last battle. I was hit with one of their weapons. I thought I was done for. I almost was, to tell you the truth.”
The thought makes your stomach flip. The thought that Neteyam was always so close to danger. He could have died. He almost did die! And you wouldn’t have known. You would’ve still been here waiting for a day that would never come. Tears sting at your eyes and blur your vision, but you do your best to blink them back. You move to look Neteyam in the eye and he’s already looking back down at you. It’s in this moment when you realize how close your faces are to each other. His breath fans your face and your body freezes. His eyes scan your face sensing your sorrow. “I am fine. Please do not cry. The fight is over.”
He was right and you knew he was. You were getting yourself worked up over a situation that hadn’t even happened. Your eyes fall back to the scar on his chest still under your fingers. Neteyam had grown significantly since you last saw him. He was taller, his chest and shoulders broader, and his arms were more toned. He held your face in his hand and brought your face back up to look at him. He was still as beautiful as you remembered. And now he held an air of maturity around him that wasn’t present before. He wears his years of experience, but there’s no sense of being jaded by all he’s been through. He was truly remarkable.
His eyes are fixated on your lips that you didn’t even realize were parted. Your breath felt heavy in your chest. Being close to him like this again felt like home. It was everything you wanted. “I missed you every day.” He’s so close. The tips of his lips graze yours when he speaks. It makes your tail anxiously tap the ground behind you. He gently leans in and closes the gap between you. Your lips move in sync with his readily welcoming the contact. Your heart is thumping madly in your ears.
You know you shouldn’t be doing this. You were promised to someone already. But how could you worry about that when the man you truly loved was right here in your grasp? Your hands rest on his chest and you can feel the way his heartbeat is mimicking your own. Your body instinctively moves in closer against his and his hands slide their way to your waist. His arms snake around you to pull you flush against his own body. Straddling him, your frame is dwarfed by his, but it still feels like such a perfect fit. It’s as if Eywa designed you both specifically to fit together this way.
The kiss offers you the relief you’ve been seeking for the last 4 years. It’s the one thing that makes your heart feel like it’s beating properly. You want more. Need more. Need him closer. The kiss grows hungrier and more desperate. You trace your hands up around his neck to pull him more into you. If you two were any closer, you would be inside each other’s skin. But you’d happily welcome him in. Neteyam traces your bottom lip with his tongue and it makes you yelp in surprise. He takes advantage of the opportunity and sneaks his tongue into your mouth. Your tongues dance together sliding against each other in a perfect game of push and pull. He tastes sweet in your mouth. It’s addicting. Not to mention the grip that his hands now have on your hips.
Your body feels hot. Your core is trembling. You had fantasized about this situation before in the middle of many sleepless nights when your hand would find its way under your loincloth. Images of Neteyam running his hands over every inch of your body, tongue trailing over the stripes on your hips and thighs and stretching you to fit him perfectly. It’s intoxicating. His grip on your hips holds you right against his and you’re almost positive there’s a big obvious wet spot on his loincloth right underneath you. And you can feel something big and stiff rubbing against you. Shit, you can feel how big he is even through both of your cloths. It’s so…inviting.
It knocks you back to your senses and you reluctantly pull away from the kiss. Neteyam’s lips try to chase yours already missing the warmth. Heavily lidded eyes stare back at you and you try to regain the breath that he seemed to have stolen from you. Your face is deeply flushed and you hide it in his chest. His chin rests on top of your head and his arms still hold you close. How could you walk away from this man? The one that’s always protected you and loved you so deeply? For what? A man you barely knew? Absolutely not. But right now is not the moment to be thinking of such things. You let yourself have this moment to just revel in the bliss. His scent brings you such a sense of comfort that you’ve been longing for.
….
The following day, the clan was alive and bustling with everyone hurrying to make preparations for the night’s festivities celebrating the return of the Sully family. Meat was hunted, fruits were collected, wood was prepped for the fire, and vegetables were chopped. The excitement in the air was infectious.
As the time for the party neared, you got dressed in your best clothes. Your top decorated with big colorful feathers and beads and your loincloth that you made yourself dyeing it with pigment you made to give it a unique orange color. Your hair cascaded down to the small of your back. It makes you notice how long it’s gotten lately, but you love the long loose waves framing your body. It made you less self-conscious about your small stature.
Your mother comes in to see you and gives you a once over. “You look beautiful, ma’ite.” A warm smile on her face.
“Thank you, mother.” You tuck a small strand of hair behind your ear to properly show your face.
“I am sure that Ralu will think so too.”
Your face drops a bit and that same strand of hair falls in your face again. You didn’t think of the fact that your love and your betrothed would both be at the party. The thought of Ralu looking at you in that way borderline disgusted you and a twinge of guilt pangs you. Ralu wasn’t a bad guy, but you just didn’t know him all that well. You didn’t feel for him. You push the thought away and decide you’ll just do your best to avoid him for the night. If he doesn’t see you, then there’s nothing to worry about. Besides, the whole clan is going to be there. Surely, finding just you in a sea of people would be difficult.
At the party, the music is loud and the crowd is swimming with jovial energy. People laugh and dance and sing and drink. You can’t remember the last time you saw everyone in such high spirits.
You spent most of your time with the Sully kids. You wanted to hear about everything they did out with the reef people. Lo’ak dramatically reenacted battle scenes complete with sound effects and the works. And he spoke of a girl that he met there clearly smitten with her. “She must be something special if she could handle you” you poke fun at him. Even Tuk had grown so much since you last saw her. Her height threatening to pass your own. “You know Neteyam couldn’t stop talking about you the whole time” she whispered to you. Your eyes flash over to him and he’s already watching you. A slight blush comes to his face since you caught him staring and it makes your own face blush. Being surrounded by them all again felt like the world had been set right again.
At one point, you finally allow yourself to relax and just enjoy the company and the atmosphere. You even find yourself falling into old habits where you and Neteyam would stand together and your tails would hold each other. It made you feel secure. But, of course, all good things must come to an end.
You hear your name being called in the distance. You and Neteyam both whip your heads in the direction of the call and your body goes cold seeing Ralu approaching you. You reflexively drop your tail from Neteyam’s and he looks at you puzzled. He’s immediately on high alert seeing how you react to this unfamiliar person.
“There you are!” Ralu starts coming closer. “I’ve been looking all over for you, yawne. I wanted to introduce you to some of my friends.”
‘Yawne’, that name makes your heart shrivel. His hand holds yours and suddenly all of your comfort is gone. This is the exact scenario you wanted to avoid. Neteyam looks between you two for a second before speaking up.
“Hi there, I’m Neteyam.” “Oh, I know. It’s an honor.” Ralu politely gestures his greeting to him.
“I’m an old friend. How do you two know each other?”
“Oh, I see. Well, we are to be mated.” Ralu says proudly. He pulls you by your hand gently to be at his side. Your eyes never leave the ground.
If you just heard a loud noise, that was the sound of Neteyam’s heart cracking.
“I see, well, I wouldn’t want to steal too much of her time from you. Go ahead.” Neteyam is much better at hiding his emotions than you are. But you know him well. Too well. The way his ears flick and the small scrunch of his nose give him away. Words aren’t enough to describe the shame and guilt you feel in this moment.
Ralu starts to lead you away. You shoot Neteyam an apologetic look as you’re dragged further away.
You can’t even focus on meeting Ralu’s friends. You truthfully couldn’t care less about them. The rest of the night, when your eyes aren’t trained on the ground, they’re scanning the crowd for the one person you actually want to be here with. From time to time your eyes would meet, but instead of fondness, there was this unspoken weight hanging between you now.
‘I don’t want to be here. I want to run. I want to scream. Can I leave? But that would be rude. I shouldn’t embarrass Ralu. He’s done nothing wrong, but this feels wrong.’ Your thoughts are loud in your mind. Louder than the music and all the chatter surrounding you.
It takes all of your will power to keep your tears at bay. The pieces of your broken heart are promising to break free from your chest.
You don’t even pay attention to how much you’ve had to drink. The alcohol just kept coming and you kept downing it hoping to feel anything other than your real feelings. It doesn’t hit you until you turn your head just a little too quickly and your vision lags behind the motion. It makes you feel unsteady on your feet. If it weren’t for Ralu continuously holding your hand, you probably would’ve fallen by now.
He finally tears his attention away from the conversation with his friends to look at you and he can tell from your glazed eyes and far away gaze that you’ve had more than enough. “How about I get you home?”
Words do not care to come to your mind just yet, so you just weakly nod your head.
Ralu bids his goodbyes to his friends and starts to lead you through the crowd. Neteyam notices you leaving together and his ears flatten with another loud crack from his heart.
Walking home feels like the longest trek through the forest you’ve ever taken. Ralu holds you up to steady your movements. Thankfully, your parents are still at the party so you don’t have to hear their scrutiny of your current state.
Everything is spinning. Even just thinking about moving makes your head dizzy. Why is the ground suddenly made of fluid and impossible to walk properly on? And there’s two of everything? You can’t even get your thoughts straight, never mind your body.
Only one image plays in your mind: Neteyam. You long to have him touch you again. You miss his hold on your body. Speaking of which, who was with you right now? Who was holding you up?
“Tey…” you mumble. Thankfully, your voice is too small for Ralu to actually hear you. “Sorry…’m s-so sorry…” your words run into one another.
Ralu looks at you in confusion at your sudden unprompted apologies, but shakes it off. You’re clearly not in your right mind. The only thing that matters right now was getting you in your hammock.
He lifts you up and places you gently on the woven material. Your eyelids are suddenly as heavy as boulders and you can’t find the strength to hold them up any longer. You sink into the material and curl your body up on your side facing the wall. Your tail tucks itself between your legs. You continue muttering half-intelligible apologies to no one until your body gives out. Ralu covers you with your sheet and brushes some of your hair out of your face before taking his leave.
He couldn’t stop this sinking feeling from gnawing at him from the inside, though. Something was off.

much too elegant?
You had always been your fathers daughter. Perfect and poised, a beautifully stunning role model to all of Awa'atlu. Being the oldest daughter of your family, along with the most elegant na'vi of the Metkayina had ever seen, left you no time to focus on boys or any such thing. However, When Jake Sully and his family request shelter from your father, you cannot help but notice a tall blue boy in the background. As he looks at you, you are overcome by feelings you had covered up your whole life without even realizing it. And from the look on the majestic boy's face, it seems he feels the same as well...
Tumblr media
paring: neteyam x fem!metkayina!reader
genre: fluff/crushing, just really cute stuff!
word count: 800+
warning(s): body descriptions (not really a warning but yeah), reader is a daddy's girl, small hiss near the beginning.
notes: oh my god you guys this is my first post on here!! i'm so sorry if the little explanation thing at the top doesn’t make sense, i'm not very good at those...... bro im so happy to finally be posting! this is crazy. uhm please be nice bc i'm new at this but yeah hope you enjoy ♡
p.s: ( also, explain to me why when i looked up 'neteyam sully' on pinterest i literally thought that the fanart was from the actual movie. like wow people in the avatar community are so talented it’s beautiful. )
You exhale deeply as your father welcomes the forest people into your home. Scanning the crowd, you can only imagine the responsibilities you now held. As if you didn't have enough already.
"My children will guide yours, Jake Te'Sully." Your father spoke, silence flowing throughout the clan.
"But father-" Started Ao'nung, stepping forward to complain. You hush him, stopping his movement with your arm.
"Ao'nung." You hiss at your younger brother, eyes piercing into his as a warning. Ao’nung shut his mouth the second you had opened yours, not daring to speak again.
"Toruk Makto and his family will stay with us." Your father announces to the clan, "We will treat them with respect. We will treat them as our brothers and sisters."
Your father glances at Ao'nung as he says the last part. Jake smiles at Tonowari as your mother closes her eyes, clearly annoyed.
Subconsciously, you step forward, now standing in front of your father. "Who is the eldest?" You ask, scanning each of the brightly colored children.
A boy, much larger and taller than you, steps out from the family. You had not noticed him before and now you cannot even begin to figure out why. He seemed impossible to not notice.
"I am the eldest. My name is Neteyam."
Your ears perked up at the sound of his voice. It was like liquid gold, beautiful and soft, yet mighty and firm. You held eye contact, studying his warm eyes.
He was... handsome, no doubt about it. His strength could be seen just by looking at him. Scars littered his body and his muscles were very defined.
You could feel a dark shade of blue growing on your cheeks as he looked you up and down, his eyes lingering on your face more than anywhere.
As the eldest daughter of Tonowari, Olo'eyktan of the Metkayina clan, you could never be anything but perfect. The kindness and nurturing spirt of your father along with the elegance and seriousness of your mother had printed onto you the second you were born. With both of their powerful qualities you had always walked with grace and spoke with immense sophistication.
Growing up the way you did made embarrassment and distractions, such as the males of the clan, unrealistic. You had never once felt a burden on your title. You were the clan's pride and joy. The best at anything and everything you did, a role model for all the children, the most adored member of Awa'atlu.
Your father and mother were always supportive, even if they didn’t show it as much in public. And your father made sure to let you know who you were, never allowing you to feel such emotions, in fear they would bring you down.
This however, this was a feeling you had never experienced. When Neteyam looked at you, you felt strange. Your body wanted him to look away but keep staring anyway. Allowing him analyzing your eyes and hair and everything felt like some sort of honor.
It was not the same feeling of when Ao'nung's stupid friends made even stupider comments about your body. It was far from that, for sure. You felt... flustered? Huh. Flustered was not even a word you had considered yourself familiar with.
As the boy looked down to your eyes again, you blinked attempting to rid the warmth on your face. You gracefully brought your fingers to your forehead, bowing out of respect.
"Oel ngati kameie." You said softly, voice polished with beauty.
You could feel your father’s stare on you. If you did not approve of the newcomers, there was a strong chance he would not either. You knew how important your opinions were to your dad.
Neteyam bowed back, "Oel ngati kameie." He spoke as his eyes followed your movements. Looking back at him, he seemed to be completely mesmerized.
You smiled at the look on his face, blush forming back onto your cheeks once again.
"My name is Y/n." You say, maturity showing through your voice as you speak. He glances to your eyes as you speak to him. "It is nice to meet you, Neteyam."
The blue boy smiles back at you gently, admiring your voice. You blink, tucking your silky long hair behind your ear. Your younger sister, Tsireya, takes a step forward, beaming at the Sully family.
"Come, I will show you our village." Your sister smiles, her voice just as velvety and soft as her. It was not everyday that outsiders came into your village so you understood her joy.
Regardless, you tried your hardest to keep your calm. You already felt exposed from the way you had reacted to Neteyam looking at you, whether someone saw your coverup or not. You could only imagine what a mess you would be while spending time with him.
As your sister began to lead the Sully family around Awa'atlu, your eyes flickered back to the eldest. Neteyam was quiet and refined, well-educated and practically perfect.
You don't even notice that you’re staring until Neteyam's eyes meet yours. At the sight of him you can't help but shy away. You silently curse to yourself as you catch his charming smile spread across his lips once more.
' Shit, Y/n. Get it together. '

a/n: apologies due to the long wait! I swear, I’m not going on a hiatus, the workload has been crazy for me this month and I also got caught up in other things. thank you so much for the support shown on the previous chapters, and I hope you will enjoy this chapter as much as the rest of it!~
»»————- . ————-««
The chances of attaining self-autonomy had you feeling hopeful after Thomas’ promise on getting you and Ao’nung off the ship, away from the RDA’s radical authority, as it seemed. Though it wasn’t easy putting your trust in someone who worked directly for the organisation, it was your best shot at the current moment. You still held room for doubt in case this all backfired on you, which could help you notice any signs of betrayal as soon as suspicions of it fills your gut.

anger issues
Tumblr media
STARRING. ao'nung x na'vi!reader
CONTAINING. a bit of angst, fluff, established relationship (mates), no use of y/n, living together with ao'nung, time skips
WARNING(S). slight violence, ao'nung having an attitude
WORD COUNT. 2.1k
synopsis: ao'nung's sudden change in attitude ends in a heated argument that lasted for days; cold shoulder, silent treatment, absolutely no interaction between you two. however, he couldn't risk you leave his life the longer you don't talk to each other so he pleads and asks you to give him another chance.
translation: tsakarem - tsahik in training), mawey - calm down, yawne - beloved, marui pod - metkayinan shelter/house, skxawng - moron/idiot
Tumblr media
after your tsakarem shift, helping ao'nung's mother ronal with the injured hunters' from today's hunt. you happily hopped your way to meet ao'nung at the shore in the usual spot, under the shade on the big rock where you two would hang out. your feet shuffled in the sand which immediately caught his attention.
ao'nung looked to you irritated which confused you, "are you okay, ao?" you asked him, cautiously approaching him to place a hand on his shoulder. "get off me! you- freak" he shouted at you, your ears tilted down as you visibly frowned. you retracted your hand quickly, realizing that his anger issues were acting up.
your first instinct was to calm him down so you immediately pulled him into a hug and rubbed his back in comforting circles which calmed for a while, whispering “mawey… mawey, my love.”, before he shoved you to the sand seeming as if calming him wasn't gonna work. you gasped as he raised his fist, "don't touch me-".
you sat on the sand slowly standing up on your feet as you raised your hands to show you meant no harm. "you wouldn't hurt me, ao. i just want to help you. let me help you, love." you said calmly, almost in a hush tone still attempting to calm him down.
"what makes you think i wouldn't? and don't call me that!" he hisses out on you as he tightly clenches his fists at the side of his body, careful not wanting to hurt you, which broke your heart the moment you heard how he didn't want you to call him your love. "i don't care about you- go away!", he shouts in a hiss, but you persisted.
"you care about me, ao. see this? you gave this on my birthday, and confessed. the most precious think you ever crafted for the both of us." you gestured to the matching shell necklace you had just like ao'nung's, giving him a soft smile.
he took a second before yelling "that don't mean shit!", he takes the necklace off your neck, leaving a cut on the side of your neck making you hiss. luckily it was only superficial, gone deeper you would've been dead if it cut through. you widen your eyes in horror as he throws it on the sand, leaving a crack on the shell of your necklace.
you immediately crouch down on your knees, picking up the necklace gently in your hands careful not to break it. "why- how could you?!" your voice getting louder, tears brimming your eyes as you looked up to him.
"because it means nothing! you mean nothing to me!" he huffs. "you! this relationship! and that stupid necklace!" he shouts at you. you immediately stood up to cup his cheek. "that's not true... not true at all!" you try to convince him but he looks away from your eyes. "look at me, ao... look at me, please." you plead him, as he finally looks at you which made you scared seeing your worried reflection through his eyes.
ao'nung pulls away from your touch turning his head sideways, "no. you mean nothing to me." he says each word with hate making you frown as you cup his face again with a hand, "look at me..." you whisper, as tears start to fall onto your cheeks.
he pulls away again, angrily he yells "i said no!" as you notice tears forming in his eyes but he's trying hard to not let it fall. you took it as a sign to still fight, so you hugged him tight. "ao... i know. you're just angry right now. i may not know why, but please. calm down, my love." i say softly. "don't call me that" he hisses, "what don't you get! i feel nothing for you!" he backs away from the hug.
"you're lying... you promised- you promised!" i shouted, my voice breaking. "i did lie! i don't want you! you're such a pathetic freak" he shouts and emphasizes the latter. "i don't care if i look pathetic to you right now, i'm doing my best for us." i say softly, sniffing as my tears keep flowing. he looks away huffing in anger.
"fine. go on and tell me that you don't love me, then i'll leave. say it with hate and make me leave." you hiss out at him to get a reaction.
"go away! leave me alone!" he shouts, his tail twitching in irritation as tears fall from his eyes as he clenches his fists tightly.
you scoff, holding my necklace carefully. walking away from you hurt, every step i took felt like i was giving up but deep inside you slightly felt relieved that he didn't say he didn't love you and just told you to leave.
ao'nung turned to watch you walk away, everything he ever wanted. as he kneeled on the sand to cry, clutching his own matching shell necklace.
Tumblr media
you reach home. your shared home. you and ao'nung's very own marui pod, which, luckily, was approved by both families seeing your unbreakable bond with each other. you immediately head to the master bedroom which was just a more secluded pod that gave privacy than the usual openness a marui pod had.
after placing your necklace on the table, you sat on the bed. you pulled your own emergency kit, grabbing a woven cloth and the little jar of ointment you had incase ao'nung would have injuries from a hunt. you skillfully treat your neck despite not seeing it, sticking the woven cloth above the ointment. your ears perk up.
ao'nung head straight to the you two's bedroom, he stood by the doorway. visibly frowning, you looked away from him as you felt he slowly stepped near you. he kneeled on both knees and grabbed your hands gently pleading you to look at him. "my love...?" he softly says to you, almost in a whisper tone. you can see him slowly start to cry when you decide to finally look at him, seeing him breaks your heart.
you slightly roll your eyes at the sight, eyes also brimming with tears. "i should be the one that's crying" you mutter as you squeeze his hands a bit, which resulted in his tail wagging.
"i'm sorry." he says, "i'm so, so sorry. i shouldn't have shouted at you like that..." he softly says, which tugged at your heart making your ears tilt a bit upwards and made your tail swish. seeing the reaction motivated him to be more sincere to earn you back.
"i shouldn't have ripped your necklace..." he eyes your bandaged wound. "most importantly, i shouldn't have told you to leave after calling you something degrading..." tears start to fall from his eyes, which by habit you immediately cup his face and wipe the tears, instantly retracting your hands you freeze as he grabs a hold of them again planting a soft kiss on each of the back of your hand.
"thank you... for staying..." he breathes out, feeling relieved not seeing any baggage in the house. you stay silent, not wanting to respond so he stands up to sit beside you and pull you into a hug. you feel warmth radiating off of him.
"leave me alone..." you whisper, trying to push him and remove his grip on your hands. "please! i don't want to lose you! you matter so much to me! i can change- i will change, please. give me a chance. my love... yawne, please..." you hear his voice breaking in desperation as he holds your shoulders firmly.
you stay silent, staring at him with glossy eyes which tightens his heart at the sight of you, he attempts to plant a kiss on your lips but you move your head sideways only allowing him to plant it on your cheek. he sighs as he pouts. "you're not losing me. just... please, step out... i want to think..." you pleaded softly, so he nods understanding and not wanting to make you uncomfortable so he complies. standing up and walks to the living room area of your pod.
Tumblr media
days past and you've given him the silent treatment, you awoke hungry so you went to your shared pantry silently grabbing a fruit as he was asleep on the woven floor of the living room area which made you feel bad.
you went back inside and sat on the bed, munching on the fruit as you noticed he was sleepily standing at the doorway. "can we talk?" he softly says, rubbing his eyes approaching you when you nod. "will you forgive me? please?" ao'nung kneels and asks with fear in his eyes, fear of being rejected by you, almost to much to bear.
"i haven't eaten in the past few days, nothing but pain and guilt in my bod-" you cut him off by shoving the fruit which made his eyes wide, nonetheless he bit the fruit finishing it. "why did you do that?" he asks. "...you said you haven't eaten in the past few days." i say, concerned despite our argument.
"so you're feeding me? like i'm a child?" he asks in disbelief. "aren't you happy i even let you in here so we could talk?" you reason out.
"you could've come out, so we could work things out like a normal couple." he swallows. "but no, me and my stupid emotions, acted up and screw things over. so what now, you let me in to feed me thinking i'm going to fall into your arms and kiss you?" he sighs.
you scoff not liking his response, your eyebrows scrunched and my tail visibly twitching behind me in irritation. "what's with the attitude? i thought you wanted to talk in hopes of fixing us?" i ask. "i do, but you're treating me like i'm some kid... what kind of adult would miss a few meals due to an argument... i don't deserve you..." he trails off.
you place a hand under his chin, "i'm treating you as my lover despite our argument, ao.", "please, forgive me. please" he pleads.
"ao... look, i want to forgive you. but-" you breathe out, while ao'nung's breath hitches, tears start to brim his lids. "you need to learn, ao'nung." his heart drops as soon as you say his name, you called him ao'nung, not ao, and most definitely not 'my love'.
"you hurt me with your words, making me overthink about you, overthink us." i say with my voice audibly shaking. "i know... and i'm deeply sorry, my love." he grabs your hands before continuing, "i'll do anything and everything to make up for my mistakes, i want you to know that, please." he softly says rubbing his thumbs on your hands.
"i don't want your apology- i want your love... you made me lose trust in you, and the audacity of you to raise your fist at me? after shoving me to the ground??" i finally bring it up. ao'nung's eyes filled with guilt he bows down looking at the floor, embarrassed to even look at you. "i know, i know. i tried my best so i clenched it instead because i'd never hurt you no matter what, you know that."
you stayed silent, "i'll rebuild your trust, i promise. i'll even go attend therapy sessions with my mother, i'll do whatever it takes. i love you so much, i can't bear to live without you by my side. i resisted to sleep beside you as you asked to be alone so i slept at the cold woven floor of ours... please, i need you." he says still kneeling, feeling the mat puncture his skin a bit.
"cuddle me..." you whisper as hush as you could, ao'nung's ears perked up hearing you loud and clear as he got up brushing his knees with slight pain. he gently lays you on the bed, grabbing your arms to wrap around him as he grazes your waist and hugs you tightly.
you missed the feeling of sleeping and waking up in his arms, the past few days made you feel lonely, nothing but an empty space beside.
"you're my everything, if i ever hurt you like this again. i don't know what i'd do..." he says holding you closely to his heart. "i won't forgive you just yet, you'll have to work hard." you say sternly, cheek against his chest. "i will. i’ll fix myself for us. i won’t let you down, i’ll love you and make you feel it so you don’t ever doubt.”
ao’nung held you, both your hearts calming as you two fell asleep. he was happy to hold you even if things are unsure and unclear, atleast you two were trying to work things out.
ao’nung’s eyes may be closed but his mind ran wild, he couldn’t get over on how he made you cry, he hated seeing you cry whenever you had a bad day or got scolded during your shifts. he hated himself more than ever for being the reason you cried.

“I don’t understand, why can’t I meet them?” Lo’ak looks down at you with an annoyed expression as you try to avoid his gaze, biting down on your lip as you feel your chest tighten. Lo’ak was once again asking to meet your parents, the same parents who you have been telling him all week that they already love him but the truth was they didn’t even know you were dating him.
You felt bad for lying but you were afraid that if you told them, they would take you away from him. You didn’t think they would love to hear that you have been going out with the boy who had a reckless reputation to his name, so you never said anything to them and that meant you had to do the one thing you hate and that was to lie. ‘Oh, they can’t wait to meet you.’ ‘My sa’nok will love you.’ ‘It’s not a good time right now, my sempul is sick.’ But of course, all the lies you spread came back to bite you in the ass.
“Please don’t push it, Lo’ak, you’ll meet them soon…” you say as you start to walk away but he stops you from going any further with his eyebrows now furrowed with anger. “You say that all the time but it never happens, are you hiding something from me?” You swallow hard as you try to think of any lie you can say to him but Lo’ak already knew that by the way you were avoiding eye contact, you were hiding something and he wasn’t going to let you go until you told him the truth.
“That’s what you always say but every time you make up some excuse of why I can’t,” he lets out an annoyed sigh as he looks down at you, his gaze softens. “I… I mean I thought you said they would love to meet me. So why can’t I meet them already, you already met my parents so why…” You look down at your feet and let out a breath you had been holding in.
“I lied..” you mumble hoping he wouldn’t hear you but he hears it perfectly, letting your hand go. “What?” You meet his confused gaze and take a deep breath. “I lied okay, my parents don’t know that we’re dating… I never told them…” He takes a step back at your confession.
“I thought they wouldn’t approve of our relationship because… because…” you bite your lip not wanting to make it even more worse but he hisses, your tail wagging low as your ears are pinned back against your skull. “Are you ashamed of me?” you shook your head quickly as tears start to build up in your eyes trying to come up with something to say that would make this situation you got yourself in any better but Lo’ak continued on, “Because I’m not the clan’s golden boy, because I do things differently than everybody else?” you try to step close to him but he takes another step back. “I thought you understood but you have been playing with me this whole time, are you fucking kidding me?!” Tears start to roll down your cheeks as you walk closer to him taking his hand in yours.
“No… I love you Lo’ak, I didn’t want to lose you,” a sob escapes your mouth as tears well up in Lo’aks eyes as he yanks his hand away from you. “How did that go for you, huh?” he looks down at the necklace he had gifted you and meets your teary gaze. “You can keep that to remember me by because… I don’t ever want to speak to you again, we’re done,” he turns around and walks away as you go to your knees.
You had yourself to blame for this mess, you could’ve fought for him, instead of just making assumptions, maybe your parents would’ve actually loved him but it’s all too late for the maybes and what-ifs, you lost him, you can’t turn back time, all you can do now is pray to eywa that he can forgive you and maybe just maybe… give you a second chance.

Hi! Can I make a request (if you're still taking requests)
it's the started out as a prank/joke then they fell in love trope (hopefully that makes sense)
maybe one of the metkayina guys dare neteyam to fake date them and he does it to fit in (lo'ak might work better with this tbh) and then he falls in love with her but she finds out (happy ending hopefully)
hopefully this makes sense
Tumblr media
hi anon! tysm for your request, sorry this took so long to write, really liked this idea, i really hope you like!!! <3 tell me your opinion? kisses!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
bad liar ⌇ neteyam.
paring. neteyam x f!metkayina!reader
Tumblr media
summary. neteyam wanted to fit in, to prove himself, so when ao’nung dared him to fake date the weird girl at the village, he said yes without much thought. his plan to make you fall in love with him backfired, because he was the one who was wrapped around your finger. guilt consumed him and he hoped you never found out the truth, but of course ao’nung had to ruin it all. he had to make it up to you, he had to prove himself worthy of your love.
content. insecure neteyam, falling in love, dates, courting, kissing, idiots in love, misunderstandings, miscommunication, hurt and comfort, mean pranks, reader doesn’t have many friends, tsireya is the best friend you could ask for, lo’ak is the one with the brains in this story, guilty neteyam, hurt and comfort, seizures, sickness, loyal neteyam, soft reader, happy ending, mentions of y/n.
☾☼☽ em' notes. this is slightly inspired by kiri’s character, english is not my first language sorry for any mistakes! gif is mine, lowercase intended, feel free to send requests!
Tumblr media
neteyam didn’t like the fact that he had to leave home, the forest, and his people, but he was doing his best at trying to enjoy his new home, completely different from his previous one. it was a shock to him when he first realized that his skills meant nothing here - he was used to being good at things, without really trying - he was extremely good at archery, climbing, fighting, he was a good leader. yet, here in this small village, surrounded by nothing but sea, neteyam was seen has another forest freak.
but it wasn’t that bad, that’s what he told himself at night when he laid awake thinking about home. he missed the forest - the smell of the rain hitting the dirt, the color green that surrounded him everywhere he went, the sound of the leaves crashing together, making a calm melody he could fall asleep to – he just needed to learn to love it here, maybe making new friends would help.
that’s how neteyam became friends with tsireya, a kind girl who taught him the basics of swimming and breathing and…her brother, ao’nung. neteyam hated him, he was a jerk to his siblings, and he even got into a fight with him once, but ao’nung apologized and ever since that day, neteyam learned to tolerate his existence, he would even call him a friend.
one time, him, lo’ak, rotxo, ao’nung, were sitting on the sand by the beach and by the corner of his eye, neteyam saw tsireya’s figure walking by, another girl by her side - he had never seen her before and curiosity filled his mind - “who is that?” he asked ao’nung, pointing his chin to his sister’s and the strange girl next to her.
“oh that’s y/n.” rotxo answered instead, but neteyam wanted to know more “I’ve never seen her around before, and I’ve been here a while”
“that’s because she’s always sick, always at my mother’s marui, she has seizures, people say she’s cursed.” ao’nung added “my sister helps her with medicine and stuff, I talk to her sometimes, she’s weird.”
“she’s nice!” rotxo added right away, he didn’t like badmouthing someone “sometimes she helps me with the ilus, the animals like her a lot.”
neteyam stayed silence, absorbing the new information he was given, and he turned his head again in your direction, and watched you walk away, your arm intertwined with tsireya’s. he could tell that you were smiling and without him noticing – an action that the others did – his ears perked up.
“you like her or something?” ao’nung asked with a smirk, he didn’t miss the way he looked at you. “don’t speak nonsense.” neteyam stated calmly, but he couldn’t shake this curious felling he had about you, from the glimpse he got of you, you were pretty and seemed kind, how could tsireya be your only friend?
“nobody courts her, because they’re scared she will curse them back, tsireya tells me she cries a lot because of it.” ao’nung said again, making a circle in the sand with his finger “maybe you should date her since you can’t stop staring with your mouth wide open, weren’t you all popular back home mighty warrior?” he teased with a huge grin on his lips. poor rotxo only bit his lips nervously, looking over at lo’ak who watched the interaction with furrowed brows.
neteyam stayed quiet and ao’nung knew exactly what to say to make him react “if you do it, we won’t call you demon anymore forest boy” he spoke again, mischievous eyes staring back at the warrior.
“no bro that’s not nice.” lo’ak said, after noticing the way his brother didn’t refuse right away. he could not possibly be considering such a stupid idea - it would only mean trouble and lo’ak didn’t want his brother to feel the way that he felt when he did something he wasn’t supposed to.
but what other choice did neteyam have? he didn’t exactly fit in. yes, he looked like a “real” na’vi, yet people here in the village still looked at him weird. his father and siblings were “demons” and he wasn’t exactly doing good at training. ao’nung always teased him every time he failed at using a spear when hunting.
“shit let me do it again, I swear I’m good at hunting, I always bring food to the clan when I hunt.” neteyam said to ao’nung when he failed to catch a fish “you know, I’m starting to not believe your stories forest boy, you can’t even catch a small fish how am I supposed to believe you were the golden boy back home huh?”
his words stuck to neteyam, he never had to deal with these types of comments - lo’ak was usually the one. he was staring to understand his brother a bit better now - and honestly, he was getting tired of it, he had to prove himself, prove himself to ao’nung and the others.
“I’ll do it” he spoke with confidence, if he did this the others would respect him and after he said that, he got up, not even saying goodbye, going to look for you.
“damn, he doesn’t waste time” ao’nung whispered surprised. rotxo stayed quiet, looking down at the sand, lo’ak sighed loudly, this was a bad idea.
neteyam walked around the village, looking for you, every corner he took, every marui he passed by, he hoped to see your figure, that he only got a glimpse of.
he was staring to lose his hope, you were nowhere to be seen, and with a defeated sigh he turned around to go the communal area, an area where the people would eat, sing and dance. his eyes went wide with surprise when he saw you, sitting with your legs crossed, with a pout on your face – you were focused, weaving some type of garment.
this was the perfect opportunity, neteyam would ask you what you were weaving, compliment your skills and then you, show off his charming smile and boom, you would be wrapped around his finger, and he would finally get the reassurance he so much needed. a simple plan really.
“hello there.” he said smoothly, coming close to you and towering you, he wasn’t going to sit next to you just yet. he noticed you flinch and lift your head up to look up him, and when you did, neteyam swore he felt his heart stop, eywa you were beautiful. your eyes especially – large doe eyes with a pretty shade of blue blinked at him, your long lashes kissing your cheeks.
“are you talking to me?” he heard you say, voice soft yet uncertain, it seemed you weren’t used to people approaching you.
“yes I am, you see, I’ve been wanting to learn how to weave and seeing you here, all alone, making a pretty garment, I must beg you to teach me.” neteyam said, a kind smile on his lips that made your anxious self slightly more at ease.
you had heard of him, the forest boy, he wasn’t lo’ak because never had seen lo’ak, your best friend tsireya would gush about him nonstop – which meant the person above you, looking at you with a charming smile, was neteyam.
it surprised you when he sat down next to you “can you teach me please?” you blinked rapidly - not used to people approaching you with this must casualty, let alone get this close – you licked your lips that suddenly went dry and took a deep breath, you were taught to be kind and you knew neteyam would eventually leave, scared, as the previous others did, but at least you could enjoy this precious moment while it lasted.
“well, what would you like me to teach you?” you asked softly, not brave enough to look up at his eyes, instead focused on the feathered armband he had.
“a shawl, I want to make a shawl” he said, you could not look him in the eye, yet neteyam never once took his eyes off you. still confused as to why someone so gentle and calm, would be isolated from everyone else.
the sun was already going down, warm rays on sunshine entering the marui that was now bathed in a pretty shade of orange, you along with it. neteyam was enjoying your company so much, he forgot about his original plan – to make you fall in love with him.
while you taught him how to weave, neteyam would throw in some jokes to make you more at ease – first you giggled shyly, and soon, full on laughter that sounded like music to his ears followed – he also heard you cutely ramble about your interests. you didn’t even realize you were rambling, but he didn’t try to stop you, he thought it was cute how your eyes grew big and sparkled every time you spoke about your ilu or the other sea animals, it seemed you had a very strong connection to nature and its animals, neteyam admired that.
“I’m finished” neteyam said, making you stop your rambling and looking down at his hands – a pretty shawl with threads of blue and green tied beautifully, making abstract patterns that mimicked the waves of the sea. it was beautiful.
you were pleasantly surprised, neteyam learned fast and you excitedly grabbed his hands – that were holding the shawl – and squeezed them gently “well done! It is very beautiful” you said happily. you heard neteyam inhale sharply, probably uncomfortable with your touch so you quickly took your hands away “I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you upset!” you said almost in a whisper, looking down at the floor embarrassed.
“I am not upset, you are very kind.” he spoke gently, he noticed your ears flick and he had to suppress a giggle, you liked compliments, probably never gotten them before – if he kept complementing you like this, his plan would go smoothly and he would get this over with, he furred his brows when he felt a sharp pain in his chest. guilt? shame?
“will we see each other again neteyam? I enjoyed your company” you spoke, stopping him from furthering thinking about what had just happened.
“yes, I would like that, maybe we can go swimming sometime?” he asked, offering you his best smile.
“I would like that very much” you replied, a hot blush growing on your full cheeks and tip of your ears.
Instead of spending your days alone, like before – when neteyam wasn’t in your life – you now spent them swimming, weaving, making songs or walking along the beach with neteyam. he was always by your side.
he was gentle, kind, charming, he didn’t treat you badly like the others, or ran away – maybe he didn’t know about the gossip – good for you.
before neteyam, everything was grey and dim but now that he was with you every second of the day even the sky seemed bluer, everything around you was brighter, happier and you weren’t nervous around him anymore. it didn’t take long for you to grow attached to him, and who could blame you? he was perfect in your eyes!
in your fantasies and in your dreams, you liked to imagine that one day, he would be brave enough to touch your waist, play with your hair, whisper loving words only meant for you, you certainly wouldn’t refuse, but they were just dreams after all, the moment neteyam saw how weird you were, sick and cursed, he would ran away like the others, you were going to enjoy these moments until then.
right now, you were in the ocean, swimming with neteyam, just the two of you and the sea. little fish always surrounding your figure and would sometimes tickle your skin making you giggle.
“they like you! they haven’t left your side since we arrived.” neteyam said, surprised with what was happening in from of him.
“I think I have a strong connecting with nature, it’s been my only friend for a while, I’m glad I have you now.” you spoke shyly, a blush soon joining your face, what you said seemed like flirting.
“I’m glad I have you too.” neteyam replied - his voice sounded like velvet- he enjoyed your company, maybe a little too much. he had learned a lot about you ever sense he decided to go on with his plan, and every day he would question if what ao’nung said was even true, you were…perfect and he wished he had better words to describe you - because your large eyes, your pretty smile, the way your cheeks turned hot so easily, your soft giggles, your gentle hands, your kind actions – everything was perfect.
there were days where he would simply forget that all of this – this friendship, this love that grew scarily fast for you – was all fake and he would doubt his motives. everything was starting to blur together, what he felt for you was fake, then why did he care so much about you? about your happiness? why did he care so much about how you saw him?
maybe this wasn’t a good idea after all – lo’ak was right - but when he was ready to back out, he would remember ao’nung and the rest of the clan’s words “you aren’t good enough.”
he had to act fast before this went on any longer, before more love for you bloomed in his chest before he would certainly fall for you. he just needed one more longing look, one more gentle touch and he would be yours. this wasn’t his plan! this wasn’t supposed to happen! he was supposed to be the one to have you wrapped around his finger, not the other way around.
he felt cold droplets hit his face, he realized you were playfully splashing him, happy giggles reaching his ears “what are you thinking about?” you asked innocently, tilting your head to the side.
“I’m thinking about you y/n.” he said - noticing the way your eyes went wide, his too doing the same – he was surprised with his words, but he wasn’t lying. a deep shade of blue joining his face and to fill the awkward silence, he added panicked “I would like to court you!”
your mouth was wide open – like one of a fish - opening and closing trying to find the right words. neteyam? neteyam wanted to court you? you had to pinch yourself, maybe you had finally gone mad, this wasn’t real or maybe your dreams came true, maybe eywa heard your prayers!
“yes! yes of course!” you lunged forward, wrapping your limbs around hid neck and rubbing your check against his. you were so happy you could die right now! you had been waiting for this for so so long.
maybe confessing something this big while swimming in the middle of the ocean wasn’t the best idea, the way you were holding him so tightly made him swallow the salty water and cough.
“oh sorry!” you yelped and backed away clumsily “I’m just really happy!”
“I am too!” neteyam replied while moving his head from side to side to shake away the excess water in his braids. when he opened his eyes to look at you, everything was in slow-motion, the way your eyes were shining so brightly, the pretty shade of your turquoise skin, the wet curly hair sticking to your freckled cheeks, your fangs poking out cutely from your pouty lips. this was it. he was doomed. this was the confirmation he needed to know he was definitely in love.
shit.
he wanted to kiss you so, so badly. and he did just that. gently, he palmed your cheek with one of his hands and he closed the distance. a soft peck, to test the waters, he didn’t want to scare you off.
that soft peck turned into a much deeper kiss when you stopped him from pulling away - by wrapping a hand around the back of his head - you stayed kissing for what felt like forever. neteyam felt like he was floating in the clouds. your soft lips against his and your little hitched breaths and warm touch, there was nothing more he wished for.
ever since that day, neteyam would make you garments - especially made just for you. armbands, bracelets, ankle bracelets, necklaces. he made it all, and you in return would wear them proudly. tsireya was extremely happy for you and demanded to know all of the details – both of you could gossip and whisper about the sully boys, failing miserably to hide your giggles.
neteyam didn’t even care about the prank anymore, he was happy, you were happy, everything was going great. so it was like a slap in the face when he was with ao’nung, rotxo and lo’ak by their usual place at the beach and he was reminded of his awful idea.
“you’re taking this joke very seriously forest boy, y/n seems more extroverted and all, I even saw her smiling!” ao’nung joked with a smirk on his lips, but neteyam didn’t mirror his smile.
“it’s not a joke ao’nung, I’m very serious about y/n, she is very special to me.” he said, tone serious.
“then you better pray she doesn’t find out the truth big bro.” now was lo’ak’s turn to speak, he still didn’t support his brother’s action, they would fight every time lo’ak brought it up, neteyam would turn angry, because deep down, he knew he was wrong and he was ashamed of it.
“oh speaking of the devil.” ao’nung said, pointing with his chin at his sister who was walking with you by her side, a wave of nostalgia took over neteyam but the feelings he had for you back then were much different now, he smiled happily and ordered you to sit by his side, tapping the sand bellow him.
“hi guys.” tsireya spoke, sitting next to lo’ak who’s eyes were glued to the girl, he didn’t even try to hide how in love he was. “hey.” you simply said, you were still shy around the others, tsireya and neteyam being your only comfort.
surprisingly, everyone was getting along nicely. ao’nung was throwing in some jokes, tsireya was playing with lo’aks hair, rotxo was finishing a basket and you were in between neteyam’s legs, resting your body against his warm chest. you didn’t see the way neteyam’s lips were in a tight line, the way he was closing his fits. he was scared ao’nung’s loud mouth would rat him out, he couldn’t afford that.
“soooo… y/n neteyam’s going to be your mate uh?” he asked and neteyam immediately sent his a death stare, mouthing “shut the fuck up” but ao’nung kept going, even when your face went red “I’m happy for you, truly!”
he sounded sincere, it didn’t sound like his usual bad jokes and teasing. what did sound weird was what he said after. “I’m glad the prank turned out for the better.”
prank? what “prank”? was what he talking about? why would you be pranked? you furrowed your brows in confusion and looked around. ao’nung slapped his mouth shut, rotxo had a sad look in his face and lo’ak was shaking his head in disappointment.
“shut up ao’nung, don’t speak another word!” you heard neteyam hiss behind you, his tone sounded serious, almost poisonous, dangerous.
“what prank ma ‘teyam?” you turned around to look up at him – a hopeful smile on your lips- you knew he would tell you the truth, like he always did. this was probably some inside joke you didn’t know of.
your smiled faded when neteyam had a pitiful expression, regret was obvious in his glossy eyes.
“y/n I-“
“it was a prank, ao’nung dared my brother to date you, but I guess it backfired.” lo’ak spoke, if he had to be the villain in this story to save his brother from further embarrassment and you from a even bigger heartbreak, so be it.
tsireya gasped loudly, it was hard to believe what she was hearing, yet the look on neteyam’s face was enough proof.
you got up abruptly from your comfortable spot, almost losing your balance. neteyam tried to hold your hand but you slapped it away.
“don’t touch me!” you yelled, tears forming in your eyes that didn’t take long before they ran down your face like waterfalls.
“y/n I’m sorry-“ neteyam tried to say, he would get on his knees if he needed to.
“how could you do this to me?!” you screamed once again, your voice broken and harsh. you could feel your heart breaking slowly, how painful it was.
“you knew about this!? all of you!?” tsireya yelled, angerly looking over at her longtime friend, brother and crush. her disappointment was unmeasurable. making her way to you, she hugged you close and let you sob into her arms, leading you away from the circle.
“I can’t believe he did this tsireya! it was a lie! all of it! and I was fool who played along!” you cried, the tears never once drying up, you didn’t even feel anger, just pure betrayal, emptiness, and sadness. how foolish it was of you to fall in love.
“I’m cursed! it’s all true! what have I done to deserve this!?” you sobbed into your hands, tsireya was holding back her tears, trying her best to comfort you in the privacy of her marui.
she became alarmed when she heard noticed you having trouble breathing, short and fast breaths that weren’t enough to fill your lungs, you were shaking severely.
“take a deep breath, calm down!” she begged, if you kept spiraling like this, you would faint - maybe even have another seizure - and eywa knows when you would wake up. the last time you had fainted you stayed unconscious for hours and tsireya never had been more scared.
but how could you calm down? who you thought was the love of your life, someone who you could be your true self with, someone who made you come out of your precious shell, was a liar, a bad one at that. how dare he say all those sweet words “you’re beautiful” “I’m so happy I met you” “I feel like myself around you.” liar, liar, liar.
your vision was turning blurry, white spots tainting it, you couldn’t feel your legs and your lungs burned, the last thing you heard was tsireya’s panicked screams before you fell into complete darkness.
“how is she?” neteyam asked with a cracked voice, probably from crying. but tsireya had bigger things to worry about. she had been looking over your unconscious body for a full day now and there was no sign of you waking up.
“it’s worse than before, she usually wakes up when mother gives her medicine.” she said defeated. “do you regret what you’ve done neteyam?” she asked not looking at his eyes.
“I do, very much. please believe me when I say that I never meant to hurt her. I thought it would be a harmless prank, yet I fell in love in the process. I was the fool all along. now I just hope she wakes up. I don’t even care if she ignores me, even if it hurts me. eywa knows I deserve it.”
“I’ll go fetch some healing herbs, please watch over her.” tsireya simply stated, she was hurt by neteyam’s action, but his words seemed heartfelt.
after her exit, now alone with you, neteyam took your gentle hand and brought it to his wet cheek “I’m sorry, please wake up.”
neteyam was hunting lo’ak and the others. ever since that day at the beach, everyone was walking on eggshells, the atmosphere heavy with awkwardness.
“you know man, don’t worry too much, this happens all the time, she will wake up I know it!” ao’nung tried to say with a happy tone, he felt guilty and wanted to cheer neteyam up who looked like a walking dead body. cheeks hallow and dark eyebags.
“yes, y/n is strong, she will wake up anytime now.” rotxo joined in.
“after she wakes up bro, you better make it up to her. you’re not the only one who’s suffering. tsireya won’t even speak to me and I have nothing to do with it!” lo’ak hissed.
“I know.” neteyam whispered, looking down at the bottom of the ocean, the water so clear he could see his feet. he had no energy to argue, lo’ak was right.
he turned his head when he heard faint screams, someone calling him over.
“it’s tsireya!” lo’ak said excited. the girl was at the docks, jumping up and down and waving her arms, calling them over.
“she’s awake!”
those words were enough for neteyam to get on his ilu and swim as fast as he could back to shore, a little spark of hope in his chest.
when he arrived at ronal’s marui, tsireya was hugging your body and you it seemed you were crying, probably scared of what had happened, he desperately wished he could just wrap you around his arms and comfort you, but he knew he was not allowed to. instead he stayed at the entrance while everyone else got inside and expressed their relief from you waking up.
waking up, you didn’t know what time it was, how long you stayed unconscious. your body felt weak and your throat was begging for water. what you knew was, neteyam was at the entrance of your tent.
he seemed worried. and he seemed…tired. pitty took over you and you wanted nothing more than to run into his arms and just stay there, but you were harshly reminded of what he had done to you.
even when it went dark, and everyone left. neteyam stayed at the entrance. quietly watching over you – his action didn’t go unnoticed, but you tried your best to ignore his tall figure.
you wanted to get up, wanted something to eat and when you lifted your body to try and reach for some nearby fruits your knees buckled and you fell.
“y/n!” neteyam screamed worried when he heard a loud thud, he rushed over to you and helped you sit down again “are you okay?” he asked worried.
“y-yes I am fine!” you hissed, pushing his hands away from your body “I’m just…hungry.” you confessed embarrassed.
“oh, let me help you please." was what you heard, soon the fruits you wanted were in front of you and neteyam used his knife to cut them into small pieces.
“here, eat.” he offered a you a piece, taking it from his hold – your fingers brushing and a familiar felling you tried to ignore resurfacing – you brought it your lips and eat it slowly.
“I am thankful for your help but I won’t forgive you just yet ‘teyam” you said serious. you liked to think that somewhere in a distant future you could learn to forgive him or at least try.
“I know, I am sorry, I never meant for all of this to happen, I just wanted to prove myself to the others, I never meant to hurt you.” he said, fighting back his tears.
“you never had to prove yourself to me.” was the only thing you said the for the rest of the night. neteyam had to bite the inside of cheek to stop him from crying. he would be jumping from joy if he had heard those words in the beginning of all of this.
he fed you and kept you company, he was silent the whole time, but it felt nice knowing he was there if something happened. he didn’t run away how you thought he would. now he knew you were sick, a mysterious illness even the tsahìk didn’t know of, a curse the others called it, yet here he stood, next to you.
weeks had passed, you were better, and you went back to your old routine. alone, alone with nature, alone with animals or with tsireya. you tried to avoid neteyam but the forest boy was making it hard. If you were at the communal area with the others, waiting for the food brought from the hunters, neteyam would arrive with the biggest fish.
if you were tending to the ilu, neteyam would be cleaning the saddles and the equipment.
if you were going to the cove of the ancestors to seek comfort at the spirit tree, neteyam somehow had the same exact plan.
“he keeps following us!” tsireya whispered yelled while making her way to the spirit tree with you.
“I know, just ignore him.” you sighed exhausted, it was hard to stay mad at him! curse him! to distract yourself you pet your ilu and ordered it to dive deeper, where the spirit tree would be waiting.
eclipse was close and the water started to turn a bright blue, the corals, anemones, algae, glowed brightly, shades of blues and purples around you. diving down and swimming over to the spirit tree you could feel neteyam’s presence looming behind you, but you pretended like he wasn’t there.
making the connecting with the spirit tree your body turned light, you felt relaxed, warm, safe.  there was no better felling. If your lungs didn’t beg for air after some minutes, you could have spent the rest of your life connected to eywa.
you were in your own world, your own version of paradise so you were unaware of the fact that to outsiders - such as neteyam and tsireya – your body was convulsing, precious bubbles leaving your moth that was wide open, your eyes white.
neteyam was the first to notice but tsireya was the first to reach you, pulling your braid away from the tree and pulling your still consulting body up. neteyam swam to her to help you, thank eywa he was there.
“neteyam! she had a another sizure!” tsireya cried once she stuck her head out the water, trying her best to keep you up.
neteyam knew how to deal with these situations, his siter kiri also prone to seizures.
“keep her head up!” he ordered, while calling for his ilu and pulling you up to his lap. he had to act fast, he could not afford to lose you.
pinching your nose, he bent down and made contact with your lips, in any other situation neteyam would cry from joy, he missed your lips. but right now, if you didn’t wake up, he would cry from desperation. he blew air into your lungs, one, two, three times.
“is she breathing!?” tsireya asked panicked.
only at the third time did you gasp loudly for more air and coughed loudly, some water coming out. a sign you were alive.
he made sure you were comfortably laid on his lap “take her to the village!” tsireya ordered, before getting on her own ilu and taking off with neteyam. “let’s go! let’s move!” he said, he had no time to waste.
ronal was already suspecting what was happening when she saw neteyam with you in his arms and her daughter right behind. she was quick on her feet, gathering her medicine and supplies to heal help you.
“lay her down!” she ordered. kneeling next to you she started her saying her prayers, begging for the help of eywa. she stayed praying while simultaneously using her own energy, her breath, to help you bring back to consciousness.
to neteyam, those short minutes felt like painful torturous hours. he almost lost you once, he didn’t want to lose you again. he had so many things planned, so many more things he wanted to say, to apologize…
never once did he let go of you hand while ronal helped you. never.
relief overtook him when he noticed your eyelids flicker and you gasp for air.
“you’re awake!” he said with a broken voice if it had taken you any longer he would already be crying.
“neteyam.” you weakly called out.
“yes, yes I’m here!” he said desperate, grabbing your hand more tightly and bringing your it to his cheek.
“I thought I died for a second.” you chuckled dryly, you had a few close calls with death, you didn’t want to lose another battle now.
“no. no, you’re here, here with me.” he said, sniffing. “don’t cry.” he could only hear you say, his vision blurry because of his tears. he felt you fingers brush his cheek and he leaned into your touch, he missed it so much.
“thank you.” you whispered weakly, before your tired body sent you to sleep.
waking up the next day, you smiled to yourself when you realized that neteyam had spent the whole night right next to you, like he had done before. you were extremely thankful for him, and as time healed your wounds, your love for neteyam returned, it had never left in the first place.
he had proven he was remorseful - time and time again - he did everything right and you thought about forgiving him, countless times. your kind heart not being capable of storing hate for too long. he had saved your life, it seemed like a good enough reason for forgiveness.
“ma ‘teyam” you whispered, shaking his shoulder gently to wake him. you didn’t even need to call out to him twice, he immediately got up, startled.
“are you okay!?” he asked panicked if you needed something he would do it in a heartbeat.
“yes I am okay.” you answered gently, caressing his cheek once more, like you did the night before. he was surprised with your action, his ears perking up in curiosity and tail swinging from side to side.
“what-“
a soft kiss on his other cheek was what he felt, he stared at you with a wide eyes, he didn’t even move, afraid that if he did this dream would end.
“am I dreaming?” he whispered and you had to cover your giggle with your palm.
“no you skxqwng! I guess this is my way of saying you are forgiven!” you said with a soft blush on your cheeks.
“holy shit thank you! I love you! I love you!” he yelled, grabbing your face, and showering it with kisses, your forehead? nose? cheeks? lips? ears? all now kissed by neteyam’s soft lips.
the only thing you could do was giggle, happy that the tension was gone, happy that things would go back to what they were, but this time, no more lies.

__________________________________________________________
It felt like you had been flying aimlessly around for hours, your eyes were heavy. A sense of exhaustion saturated your features which transferred in waves to your ikran, their wings becoming heavy. A faint yip in the distance below caught your attention, as you looked down squinting your eyes in efforts to get a better view, slowly angling your ikran to glide downward. That’s when you finally spotted them. The Sully siblings waving their arms in the air desperate to get your attention. You exhaled a breath of relief smiling down at them, as you shifted your weight to fully descend to meet them on the cliff-side. After jumping from your banshee you are immediately met with a group embrace from the siblings, with Lo’ak and Kiri at your sides, Tuk taking her own space between them. You held all of them close, relief and exhaustion- both physical and emotional, mixing as you melted into your family’s hold. Guilt once again pained your chest. You had meant to reunite your mate with his family, and now you carried the weight of coming back empty handed. The familiar sting in your throat grew, the dampness in your eyes becoming more evident,  prompting you to sandwich your head between Kiri and Lo’ak’s in efforts to hide your face from them. “Sister? What is wrong? Are you hurt anywhere?” Kiri asked anxiously, rubbing your back “I am so sorry… to all of you. I tried- I…” sobs began to rip from your throat as the blanket of security from your family’s embrace settled with you.
Kiri pulled back to look at your face, cupping your cheek, “Hey hey it is ok, just breathe Y/N you are back in one piece that is what matters.” She cooed in attempts to reassure you. Lo’ak pulled back as well, slightly pushing Kiri out of the way to get a more direct look at you as he grasped your shoulders, “What were you thinking? Why would you go back there alone?”, “Lo’ak-“ Kiri huffed trying to reel back her brother’s frantic questioning, “No- I know it’s just… we could’ve helped you, sister”. You could read the despair in Lo’ak’s expression. Relieved that you were safe, yet a part of him wishes you had involved him in your plans. That maybe they would’ve gone a bit more successful had he’d been there to back you up. You shook your head wiping your tears away anxiously, letting out an firm sniffle, clearing your thoughts, “I would never allow myself to put any of you in danger like that. It is why I forbade you from returning to that place”. Lo’ak scoffed at this, even Tuk now stood back with her arms crossed, pouting up at you. “And yet that didn’t stop you from going on your own huh? Ha… ‘guess you really are a Sully” he chuckled lightheartedly. The words warmed your heart more than he would ever know and before you could stop yourself, your arms were wrapped around him again, holding him in your embrace, “Thank you, Lo’ak…” you sigh, true relief finally encompassing your mental state. Kiri smiled on at the two of you, continuing her past actions of soothing your back. Tuk becoming antsy at standing around tugged at your tail, “Come on! Mom and Dad will want to know you are back!”. Dread slowly crept into your mind at the thought. Shit they are going to be pissed.
Anxiety washed over you as the four of you walked into the forest ahead. You already knew that neither Jake or Neytiri would approve of your actions, yet you had to keep your firm resolve. You didn’t regret what you had done. Maybe you felt a tad guilty for leaving without a word to anyone, but you couldn’t help, but to feel hopeful as you recalled what Spider had said in the forest, “You woke him up”. The words rang through your mind, allowing a small smile to play on your lips. Your eyes gawked as the four of you came upon a large winding tree, reminding you of the home tree you once knew growing up. The sounds of yips broke through your subconscious as you made your way through the crowd of ocean na’vi, setting up tents at the base of the tree, not fully acclimated to their new place of residence. “This must be so strange for them” you affirm, earning a snide chuckle at your statement from Lo’ak, “Like fish out of water.” Kiri rolled her eyes, taking Tuk by the hand, “Come on, mom and dad are up this way”. Climbing your way up the winding trunk, the uneasiness in your stomach only seemed to get worse, a wave of nausea threatening to tighten at the base of your throat. Finally coming upon an open area hiding within the large protective branches of the tree, were Jake conversing with Tonowari, about what specially you weren’t sure. Off to the side Ronal was calmly sat on a woven mat going through her belongings seemingly to prepare a ritualistic cleansing to bless their temporary home. Neytiri reflected the exact opposite demeanor, frantically pacing back and forth, her tail swinging rapidly behind her. Her pacing came to a halt as she lifted her head the very moment the four of you made your appearance, her eye’s immediately singling you out from amongst her children. You hardly had time to process as Neytiri raced over to you. Her words came out jumbled and messy as she cupped your face and checked all over your body for any marks or injuries. Her questioning suddenly halted, eyes  pausing on the crook of your neck. Taken aback by her sudden hesitation you beginning making your own scan of her, not entirely sure of what halted her scolding. “Child-“ she spoke scarcely, as if he breath was fleeting. Her eyes glued to the spot on your neck. “This mark… it is fresh”. Then the realization finally hit you. Neteyam had marked you earlier in the midst of reclaiming you. The faint memory of him sinking his teeth into you as his hips ground against your own, holding you in place. It had almost become an after thought when you were interrupted sooner there after.  Neytiri grasped your shoulders slightly shaking you to return your thoughts to the forefront, Jake was now jogging up behind his mate, eyeing the two of you with a confused expression, “explain yourself Y/N!”. Uncertainty shot through you as your ears slowly moved to lay back against your head, “I- I uh..” “You mated with that demon?!”.
The words were harsh, cut throat. Neytiri was not there to witness the change in her son, the last she had heard was that he had nearly strangled you to death. Your eyes now narrowed on the woman in front of you, the confidence growing in your chest now compelled you to stand up for your mate who was not here to defend himself, “He is still my mate, Neytiri. That has not changed.” You glower, eyes growing dark, tail now standing in assertiveness. Neytiri hissed backing away from you, beginning her pacing once more as she debated her next words. Jake took the opportunity to put himself between you and your mother-in-law, taking your shoulders in a more comforting manor, “Y/N I need you to answer me truthfully-“ he hummed sympathetically, “Did he force himself on you?”. Your brows scrunched immediately at the accusation, shoving his hands off of you in your now offensive state, “What? No! I wanted it-he would not do that.” It was now your turn to start your own small trail of pacing, “You would accuse your own son of such a thing??” You hiss, tail wildly wriggling behind you. The act of taking a mate by force was one of the biggest taboos in na’vi culture. The mere idea of Neteyam taking such actions against you only caused the nausea in your stomach to double. “Then help me understand it Y/N!” Jake pleaded now growing agitated, “Damn it, one moment he’s trying to kill you and now I’m supposed to believe that he’s asking for consent before bending you over? Nuh uh- I don’t think so, I’m not buying that crap” Jake fumed. Your own anger was starting to match his. You swear you could see sparks igniting between the two of you “Who do you think helped me escape, Jake? Huh?? I appreciate your faith in my ability to sneak out on my own, but if it hadn’t been for Neteyam, I would still be back in that fucking room with Quaritch breathing down my neck!” Your body now shaking in anger. The thought of Quaritch invading your personal space all over again made you ill. The way his potent artificial scent had stung your nostrils. How you longed to be back in the secure arms of your mate, so he could protect you from that demon. That’s exactly how you envisioned it: the thought of Quaritch melting away from your consciousness only to be replaced by the man you longed for the most, holding you in his solicitous embrace. Craving to be engulfed in his intoxicating scent once more. You released an uneasy breath as you steadied your thoughts before calmly turning your attention back to Jake, “I know it does not make sense right now, but I need you to trust me, Jake. Neteyam is still in there, and we need to come up with a plan to get him back”. Jake gave his own unsteady sigh shaking his head lightly, his hands placed on his hips as he rolled your words over in his head.
“Go rest up, kid” was all he said, his eyes secure on the branches in front of him, purposely avoiding your gaze. Giving a weak nod you begin to make your way toward one of the branches to ascend upon. As you turn the corner of the large central trunk, a strange sensation wafts through your stomach. Your brows pinch in a slight wince at the discomfort, leaning your shoulder against the tree as you look down at the afflicted area. Something felt… off. It wasn’t something you could quite place, but the feeling was definitely foreign. Your hand drifted to gently caress your lower abdomen, hoping to ease some of the tension. Perhaps you were just sore? Still that explanation didn’t feel right, it was as if your entire world was shifted on its axis. In the spur of the moment you felt a gust of wind blow past you through the branches, your ears wavering as you looked around scanning the area. And then you spotted it, floating down majestically, carried by the soft wind. Atokirina’… a single seed from the spirit tree, but this far out on the coast? Why had it strayed so far from home? You studied carefully as the spirit floated around you, slowly gliding toward where your hand rested against your stomach. With a brief grazing of its tentacles against your skin, the spirit ascended upward disappearing into the branches. Your breath was caught in your throat as you watched the seedling fade away, a sudden thought crossing your mind and suddenly it all became clear. You shift your weight to lean your back against the trunk, eyes gazing up in the direction the spirit had ascended to, “Shit…”.
———————————
The flight to Hell’s Gate nearly took up half of the day, 10 hours to be exact. Neteyam sat toward the back of the gun ship, disassociating as his eyes fixed on the floor in front of him, however not failing to notice through his peripheral how Spider would not so discreetly look back at him every so often throughout the flight from the other side of the ship to check on him.  Before the ship had even fully landed on the helipad, two recoms had secured their spot next to Neteyam, one positioned on either side of him, detaching his wrists that were cuffed to the seat under him, only to immediately add a new pair to keep his hands behind his back. The rest of the ship passengers had readied themselves for departure, jumping from the gun ship as it leveled out above the ground. “Look alive, boy!” Quaritch called out to Neteyam, signaling the two recoms to escort him out of the ship, Spider following close behind after they had descended. Neteyam’s entire body tensed, the smell of oil, gases, and machinery assaulted his nostrils, instinctively scrunching his nose with distaste as the group made their way inside the complex.
Quaritch’s team soon met up with General Ardmore, who upon first meeting immediately singled out Neteyam, the only true na’vi of the group still dressed in his cultural garb, “You consider putting some real clothes on him?” She questioned discourteously after greeting Quaritch first, now gesturing in Neteyam’s direction. The colonel nearly shrugged in response, “Nah, figured it would take away from the illusion.” He smirked pleased with himself. Ardmore eyed Neteyam once more “Not a bad idea… is he behaving?”. Another shrug, “We do the best we can to subdue him however we can, but he’s loosing his resolve” the last part being whispered as Quaritch leaned in attempts to not raise any flags. Ardmore seemed unbothered, in fact Neteyam could almost swore she looked pleased, “I think I have something you could work with” she inferred, turning on her heels to continue down the hall, the group instantly following behind her with Quaritch in the lead.
The space they were led to was filled with different machinery and computers. One of which Spider immediately recognized, causing him to shiver as he recalled the torture he went through while being interrogated when he was first captured by the RDA. His brain immediately began to race, concerned for Neteyam’s safety. What are they planning to do to him? How can I protect Neteyam if they try something similar on him?
Spider now picked up his pace walking slightly closer next to the na’vi, which Neteyam acknowledged with only a flick of his ear in Spider’s direction. “Doctor Kemper, show them the device you’ve constructed” the general motioned over to one of the scientists typing frantically on his computer, but immediately stopping upon hearing his orders and carefully fishing out a small collar like device from his desk-side drawer, “Ah- yes General; This is our neuro-stimulit” the scientist displayed the small piece of machinery holding it for colonel Quaritch to view, as he pointed to each of its different facets, “the flexible metallic stem on the back is run along the subject’s spine, where a small implant reads the individual’s neural responses, sort of like a tiny CT scanner”. The doctor explained now motioning down to the inner rim of the collar, Spider slowly creeping forward making sure to keep close attention as Kemper continued to explain the design, “upon picking up certain… uh.. undesired chemical releases in the brain, these probs will send an appropriate shock toward the subject”. Neteyam although unable to truly understand what exactly the device did, the idea of it being able to read his mind made him uneasy, biting on the inside of his cheek absentmindedly. With a snap of Quaritch’s fingers the two recoms on either side of Neteyam, thrusted him down to his knees, one of them taking his kuru in their fist, holding it agonizingly tight. Despite his fight or flight instincts telling him to fight back, to resist and throw them off, Neteyam bit his tongue and obediently lowered his head, as the contraption was placed around his neck.
“Alright now how do we know it works?” Quaritch eyed the scientist who was carefully stepping a generous distance away from the na’vi warrior after placing the collar on him, “Oh well as of right now we have it to track signs of dopamine and serotonin. Uh- so signs of desire or pleasure. To test it, try to get him to think of something he likes.” A sly grin began to spread on Quaritch’s face as an idea passed through his mind, leaning down to look Neteyam in the eye, “Alright then… let’s start with your woman then huh? You still haven’t given me a straight answer to any of the questions I asked you earlier.” Immediately Neteyam’s mind flew to thoughts of you. He knew exactly what Quaritch was getting at and desperately tried to push the intrusions out of his mind. No response from the device. “Nothing? Come on, surely you haven’t forgotten already have you? How you shamelessly fucked her in that interrogation room..” Quaritch growled lowly, the devilish smirk stretching wide against his features, “He did what!?” The general boomed, but it was already in motion. The thoughts of the account returning to the forefront in Neteyam’s mind. How your body squirmed underneath him, his arms locked around you to sink you further onto his co- ZAP! The doctor inspected his monitor as the na’vi buckled under the pain. “Yup! He’s peaking in areas of his cingulate cortex, hypothalamus, and amygdala. Parts of the brain that monitor different aspects of emotional processing.” He explained, ecstatic that his engineering had been successful. Spider shifted back and forth on the balls of his feet, as he anxiously watched Neteyam mentally struggling to push the memories out of his mind, his chest and shoulders heaving dramatically with each breath, as the shocks relentlessly continued along his spine. Quaritch watched intently as Neteyam struggled against his own mind, crossing his arms in a victorious stance, “a couple more doses of this thing and even the thought of Sully and his family will drive him mad.. good work doc”. Spider glared up at Quaritch through hooded brows, everything he had thought about him before, everything he taught the man about Pandora and it’s culture, he regretted it all in this moment. “So you said you had intel on Sully’s whereabouts?” Quaritch asked, directing his attention to the general. “We think they are moving north up along the coast. One of our patrol copters in the area picked up on a large amount of movement some ways out on their radar. I told them not to engage for the time being. I know it’s a lot of ground to cover, but regardless, we should still be able to catch them off guard”. Quaritch have a confirmed nod before his gaze fell to Neteyam, panting on the cold floor, body trembling. A sly smirk smeared across his face, “Get him up! We are moving out” he quickly ordered the other recoms, before making their way back in the direction they came in. Spider felt anxiety surge through his chest, panicked he had to warn you before they took off. Spider slowly fell behind the rest of the group, keeping his distance as he raised his hand to the comms device on his neck.
——————————————
“Y/N.. Y/N do you copy?”
Your body stirred in your hammock hearing a sudden disembodied voice, your ears perked, quickly realizing where it was coming from. Sitting up hastily, your hand practically flies over your comms mic, “Spider? What’s going on? -Is Neteyam okay?”. There was silence on the other line for a few short moments. How could Spider confess to you that Neteyam had been enduring literal torture on and off for the passed 10 plus hours. He decided to leave it alone and focus on getting his information across before he missed his time window, “Y/N I need you to listen to me… Quaritch and his team had a tip off about where you guys are hiding out. You gotta tell Jake to get everyone prepared to defend themselves”. Immediately you are jumping out of your hammock, already making your way to find Jake, “How long do we have?” You press on, noting how Spider ignored your question about the condition of your mate, causing your stomach to twist uncomfortably, yet you push the thought away as you make your way down the thick branch back into the more flat meeting area. “Half a day maybe? If I had to guess it would be late morning tomorrow- I gotta go! Stay safe”, and just like that the line went completely silent. You took in a steady breath, your brows pinched in focus as you locked your sights of Jake. You mentally thanked Eywa that he was still awake, despite it being late at night, as you called out to him with a firm voice, “Jake!- it’s Quaritch he knows where we are, we have to tell Tonowari to get the clan ready for battle”.
It was clear by the look on Jake’s face that he was more than just mildly confused, as his facial features hardened at your declaration, raising his arms slightly to halt your oncoming strides as you neared him, “Kid, what the hell are you talking about? Did you know about this earlier?”. “No- look I’m in communication with Spider, he worked with Neteyam to help me escape, he just told me Quaritch and his men were on their way”. Jake’s face contorted into deep distaste. The memory of learning about Spider’s betrayal, the feeling that he had failed his family a second time by taking the human in. He didn’t want to trust another word if it came from Spider’s mouth, yet the threat was too great to ignore. Brows creased, he looked over at you sternly before giving a quick nod of his head, “Go, stay with Tuk and the others, I’ll go talk to Tonowari”. His words were final as he walked past you, but you couldn’t help, but refuse his orders, “Jake, Neteyam will be with them, you need to let me stay and fight!” you urge him, your face painted in a mix of anguish and desperation. Jake whips his head around, his dreads partially falling into his face as he stares down at you,”This isn’t up for debate Y/N, stay with them so they don’t do anything stupid… I’m counting on you, please- just go”. Jake knew how hard this must be for you, but he held your safety and that of his own kids at his top priority. Your ears flattened slightly as his harsh tone, but you hesitantly nod watching his stern look soften somewhat, the two of you heading off in separate directions. After a little bit of searching you are able to find Lo’ak and the rest of the Sully siblings, still asleep in their hammocks. Settling yourself down on the branch, you watch over them intently. There was no way you could find it within yourself to go back to sleep at this point. Your mind was racing, trying to prepare itself for what was to come. Still the thought that Spider hadn’t given you that reassurance about Neteyam was at the forefront of your mind. It made you anxious, your tail absentmindedly patting against the ground because of it. You were only pulled out of your thoughts as Tuk stirs in her hammock, sitting up slowly, wiping her tired eyes with the back of her hand, “Y/N?” she yawns, noticing your presence.
You quickly wipe your expression of worry into a soft smile as she climbs out of her hammock to join you on the branch above her, “You should sleep Tuk, it is still early” you encourage in a soft whisper, watching as Tuk ignores your suggestion and settles to sit between your legs, her back pressed against your chest, “I couldn’t sleep anyway…” she grumbles, bringing her knees to her chest, her tail wrapping around her ankles. Your brows scrunch in concern as you peer down at her, tucking a stray braid behind her ear to get a better view of the young na’vi’s face. “And why is that?” you press, watching her face closely. Tuk stays silent for a moment, her brows slowly forming into a tight crease as her large eyes begin to well with tears, instantly making your heart clench, watching her internally struggle to find the proper words to express her feelings. “Oh Tuk…” You coo, wrapping your arms gently around her, bringing her closer into your chest, as a strained hiccup erupts from the child’s throat. With a deep sigh, you gently begin to sooth your hand along her arm in efforts to comfort her, quietly shushing her as she lets out small sobs into your chest. You don’t press further or try to stop her, you only allow yourself to become a safe space for Tuk to go through the emotions that race through her mind, waiting patiently for her to become comfortable enough to finally express herself. Your heart ached for her as you recollect all the events that have transpired in her short life. The stress of having to leave behind everything she knew, to become vulnerable enough to find trust in her new home, only for it to be under attack by the threat that caused them to run in the first place… and on top of it all, to lose her eldest brother. Neteyam had always been a rock for Tuk to lean on, you had observed it yourself, whenever Tuk became overwhelmed with whatever situation she was struggling with, Neteyam would sit patiently with her and help her through the motions, offering a soft smile and whatever advice he could grant her.
To have him ripped away from her, without even being able to say goodbye- a luxury that you were fortunate enough to be granted, but for Tuk, the thought plagued her mind constantly. And now her brother had seemingly returned, yet of the things she heard, she wasn’t quite sure a reunion was something she wanted to materialize. For her to be enduring this at such a young age, was nearly criminal. She deserved to have a carefree childhood, not the cruel reality she now faced. “I miss Neteyam..” she cries softly against your chest, fisting the beads of your top in the midst of her anguish. You can feel your own eyes begin to dampen at her words, securing your arms tighter around her form, resting your cheek atop her head as you slowly rock her back and forth, “Shh..I know Tuky.. I know…” you hum hushfully, rubbing your hand along her back. “I promise… everything is going to be okay”, Tuk pulls back slightly to gaze up at you with her beady tear stained eyes, uncertainty clear in her features, “How? How do you know that? You saw him too right? Is it really Neteyam? H-he.. he can’t be… I know my brother isn’t a demon” Tuk’s voice was shaky as she quotes her mother’s words from earlier. You sigh as a stricken expression paints your features, taking her face in your hand gently, urging her to look directly at you as you speak, “He is not a demon, I promise Tuk- your brother will come back to us and I will not let them take him again…” Your words are firm and final as if speaking it out as truth into the universe. At this point Lo’ak and Kiri were awake in their hammocks, laying perfectly still as they listened to the two of you talk. You continued to rock Tuk against your chest until she slowly drifted back to sleep, cradling her securely as she laid against you. The night was long, as you sat in your own thoughts, Lo’ak and Kiri remaining silent as they contemplated the events of the day to come. There was no doubt in your mind Neteyam would be with them tomorrow. This time you would be successful in freeing him from his invisible shackles, your mind was made. You would do everything necessary in your power to deliver him back to his family.
The morning seemed to come sooner than expected as you slowly disassociated throughout the night, drilling through multiple different plans and situations you could use to prepare yourself for the battle to come, as it would undoubtedly end in a fight. You had not even realized you had fallen asleep, until Tuk stirred in your arms, rubbing her eyes tiredly. You groaned, arching your stiff back, hearing your bones crack from having slept sitting up. Blinking, you came out of your tired state, gazing down at the empty hammocks where Lo’ak and Kiri once laid, panic immediately filled your mind, as you shift to away from Tuk to quickly stand up, grabbing her hand as you venture to find the older Sully siblings, soon spotting them on the shore after a bit of hasty searching. “Lo’ak, Kiri! Get back to the forest, it isn’t safe out here-”, You were suddenly pulled out of your thoughts as your ears flicked to the sound of an oncoming airship. It was them- the enemy had arrived. Quickly kicking into your duty of looking out for your siblings, you rush to step in front of the two older siblings, urging them backward, pushing Tuk behind you as you began to step back cautiously, watching as the airship maneuvered to hover above the ground, as the recoms began to pour out, Quaritch pushing through the crowd to make his presence known. Your jaw tightened as you watched him survey the area, having yet to notice you are the rest of the Sully siblings. Neteyam lept out right behind Quaritch, following right on his tail. Your chest tightened at the sight of him, his eyes heavy in exhaustion, as if he hadn’t slept in days, suddenly morphing with fires of pure hate and aggression as they landed on you. Your heart clenched at the sight, thrusting you into your fight or flight instincts. Something wasn’t right… this wasn’t how he looked when you last left him. The cold, lifeless exterior encompassing his features, his muscles tight, yet again presenting the image of a soldier ready for war.
