Setting aside that curious savagery for a moment, ever wonder how many dead bodies Ouma must have seen? Because it appears he’s ‘used to it’, even though that’s the kind of thing you’d have to go through gruelling training for. After all, the only ones who were accustomed to these situations at this point, had some dangerous and fucky shit in their past. It’s already funny enough that Ouma is in some ways capable of mitigating torture, considering Maki.
At the very least, it’s reasonably weird that someone with a history as a ‘common prankster’… is ‘used’ to dealing with death at all, let alone so much that he can put a cheerful mask on without even thinking about it.

even though you posted it a year ago, it was only when looking over your comments about Korekiyo's final words that I realized why Korekiyo's behaviour throughout that trial bugged me. Lines like 'so why is everyone looking at me like I am?' really made it seem like he legitimately believed he wasn't, and the idea that his 'sister' was the one to kill Angie made things click and resolved that for me, so thanks for that.
Hi,
I’m sorry that you had to wait so long. I was busy and I didn’t have much time and moreover, my motivation to analyse this game diminished :( So thank you for this post :)
As far as I remember I reposted a post about Korekiyo’s strange behavior during the trial that caught my attention. I’m glad that you found it helpful and noticed that his ‘sister’ may have killed Angie. Too bad the game didn’t focus on that more. Maybe because we didn’t have a reliable detective...

Demon huh…. Would Maki count?
But seriously, why would Tsumugi would even place Himiko as the black magic user??
Sounds a bit…. perplexing given that Tenko stresses how Himiko is the purest and Tsumugi (glares at her direction) is the one to randomly point out her being the darkest… And yet nowhere in the story do they prove that either trait as definitive parts of Himiko’s character.

A premonition our Ouma has is not taken very seriously. Probably because Kokichi is already deluding himself, to the point of losing awareness…

Ōmagatoki is the twilight hour between when the sun sets and the sky goes dark. It is not quite day, but not quite night. Shadows swallow everything. Your eyes start to play tricks on your mind. The border thins between sekai—the world we live in, belong to, and recognize—and ikai, the “other” world. Ikai is where the spirits live, a world about which we humans know next to nothing. During ōmagatoki, the evil spirits, the chimimōryō, wake up and move about freely. This is the hour when yōkai, yūrei, and other dark things cross over into our world. (x)
It’s funny to me that the ‘message from the dead’ (as it was called in Chapter 3), is written with ‘ouma’ in hiragana, given this… could this be referenced, also? Like how the message was being slowly constructed over time, by what appeared to be some ‘phantom’ for all they knew.
Whatever the case, it’s really effing creepy. But what I love here is ‘eyes playing tricks on the mind’, and the ‘border thinning between worlds’. It’s enough to keep a grasp of what is real and what isn’t, never mind the concept of other worlds…

Something that’s always bothered me about the Epilogue and also amazed me: look at the gradual shift from ‘fiction’ to ‘lie’ in this text.
What’s interesting here, is how the group is our vessel for the ‘beauteous’ perspective of fiction, in the context of a story. We see the break in their cage, and a shining light like a beacon of hope. But when Shuichi starts talking about it being a lie, the scene becomes more ominous as it disconnects from them. We see the shadow of TDR’s influence, and we’re now even looking down on the group, as if they’re ants. Empowered, to disempowered.
What does it mean then, for a ‘lie to change the world’? What does it mean for the group? Considering the drastic shift in all but music, how can we be sure this is even the same as what they believed?

Setting aside this curious issue of irony here, this…
…is what Ouma tries to point out to him, in the course of the game. Granted, he takes it a step further, pointing out such things as ‘strange substances that bend time and space’, and the dead coming back to life.
Sounds ridiculous, at first. But the thing is, he also points out…
…a mysterious virus, and weird technology. Two things which DO in fact show up in the main game. Though Kaito may not know that he has that virus, the group have already seen something remarkable, with regards to the technology.
And what’s this? Kaito wants to bring the technology and art of Earth to the universe. If this ‘weird technology’ we are seeing is a factor of that… does that mean the technology - and virus - is in fact alien…?
Speaking of art, we have here an artist who can make sculptures for effigies… for bringing the dead back to life. Funny, that’s one of the things that was noted as a possibility in conjunction with other space phenomena. What’s more, Angie already appears to have a tinge of the supernatural in her drawn art, while even displaying supernatural tendencies with her hypnotic hugs.
Kaito’s remarks here are decidedly bold, but considering at least two of the ‘weird things’ mentioned are true, then it’s entirely possible this came to pass.
So, ‘third rate anime or game’, huh? Isn’t that interesting, especially as the circumstances are adding up to precisely that, already…
