"If Children Must Die First Then That Is Too Bad, Just Too Bad"
These past few weeks have been deeply, deeply psychologically exhausting for me. So, so many of the same arguments and propaganda being put forth about Palestine that made my parents' childhood hell on earth, that made *my* childhood a traumatising mess. The Biafran genocide, the brutality that ran rampant in the Niger Delta in response to militant resistance, the way the international community has simply memory-holed these things - the parallels are too many, too heavy. And that's even before getting into Israel's complicity in Biafra's fate.
I have always wished with all my heart that what ultimately befell Biafra would never befall anyone else, because I am all too aware that when the genocidaires win and end up in your government, in your textbooks as heroes, on your fucking airports and money and streets you go down every day - you will be considered the radical extremist for pointing out that their legacies were built on the mass murder of children.

now that some days have passed i am emerging from under my rock to ask: is it yet the right time to point out how the easy conflation of north american/atlantic with mediterranean coast guard operations sweeps the VERY CONCERNING rising fascism in Greece, Italy and other southern european states under the rug in favour of centering the US?
the incessant "america bad" that fills most online leftist spaces gets very exhausting at times (and a big part of why I'm under this rock tbh). it is very stressful how even US americans who consider themselves politically conscious leftists are just...direly incapable of thinking through or talking about any non-US issue from a material non-US angle (as opposed to just force-fitting local US politics on top of it). like it really is yet another form of US american exceptionalism
#titan sub#oceangate#what has *very recently* been happening in the mediterranean is ABNORMAL#and not the long-established way of the sea#making sweeping “we” save X but not Y statements obscures that#greece italy et al have been WILDING#politics

okay given the absolutely shambolic shitshow these elections have been, i really should get started on cleaning up my essays for publication.
they feel largely like i am speaking into the void *but* the revolution begins in the mind.

Fun small details about Wolf from Puss in Boots 2
(spoilers for Puss in Boots The Last Wish)
You can see him in the Background of the crowd (about 7:10) when Puss is fighting the Giant
As Puss recounts his deaths he's there again literally around the corner of the number cards
In the bar fight right before first blood, you can see the kill tally on the sickles way before the character points it out later.
Wolf/Death shows up again right after Puss brags to the crowd, he puts the coins in his eyes not just to look creepy but as a reference to the Greek tradition of putting coins over the eyes of the dead
When Death shows up in the Dark Forest, it's after members of the Baker's Dozen have started to die around Puss. Going by fairytale rules I don't think that Wolf/Death would be able to find Puss without death in Perrito's version of the Dark Forest.
Also in the cave it's funny that the Puss who died cheating at cards is the one to call out Death for cheating by coming to kill Puss himself instead of waiting for him to die naturally.

went to see bp:wf yesterday and i want my money and 2.5 hours back 😐
- disney/marvel once again wouldn't know what "scale" is if it thumped them in the back of the head (that final battle was an embarrassment lmao. abeg x3)
- i have long resigned myself to the horrendous accents (winston duke my dear thank you for salvaging as much as you could)
- the trend of hollywood treating africa/african societies as a place of ancient myth and/or a power fantasy and not really a real, complex place (then again wakanda was never for us - it has never really been anything other than western norms dressed in a broadly african aesthetic - so it's not like i'm surprised)
i don't even really care that much about the last two points, but marvel movies are action movies first and foremost so why is the action always so painfully mid 💀 imagine spending millions of dollars on vfx for that
p.s. my goodness they made ramonda such a terrible queen. ko necessary rara
#wakanda forever#my movie thoughts#i thought they were going to do something even halfway interesting with shuri's scepticism but nope lmao#the chadwick boseman tributes were really well done though#mcu#bp:wf spoilers

[no spoilers] I have so many fucking feelings about The Woman King yo. It's not a perfect movie by any means but it's damn good, and honestly most of my complaints about it (other than the accents lmao) are down to the runtime being too short to let everything breathe.
Scrolling through the tag is such a trip though because it's half people swooning over Izogie (as they should 😍) and half people who clearly don't really know anything about the movie's plot or characters but suddenly have a PhD in West African history
#the woman king#izogie#she's so beautiful that's it that's the tag#her intonation was the best after John Boyega of course

I have been working on this for a little over a week and I am so pleased with how it turned out. This is a forest spirit from the game Death's Door and there were no plushies of them so I decided to make one of my own. For the first pattern I designed from the ground up I am so proud of how it turned out!
One mechanic that I really wanted was the ability for the petals to raise or lower based on the flower emotions (in the game they do this and it's so cute) and I achieved this by crocheting wire all around the edges of the petals.
I want to make more with different petal colours and then I also want to modify the under petals as I think they are too big as they are and then slowly work on a pattern because I have heard some people want one.
Also most importantly I have a pressing need to crochet a little hat for my flower.
