I started this piece after finishing the absolutely WONDERFUL The House in the Cerulean Sea and then in the time it took me to finish this, I went out, got TJ Klune’s new book, Under the Whispering Door which was ALSO WONDERFUL!! Thank you for sharing such lovely stories! 💖

i thought this was a relatable 'deep' statement, from a philosopher or something, but no, it's about a funny fantasy podcast
It is possible to love someone who you know is doing wrong. It’s terribly easy, in fact.

"Do you have ten bucks?" Erika. [ID: a drawing with a textured brush of a lanky, awkward figure, all black, with pale purple wings. They have two purple eyes with small pupils and a halo around their head.]

this song is so achingly familiar. like nothing ever changed. yet also so excitingly different. like seeing an old friend after a few years and theyre still the same person but theres something distinctly New about them.
You have all these old memories and now you have room for new ones.

Welcome to Night Vale, Hello From the Hallowoods, and Death by Dying are all the same strange, distinct mixture of comforting and creepy.
(and also very gay)
They also create like, a pretty perfect scale from Funny In A Dark Way to Dark In A Funny Way
DBD Pod (mostly just funny but still about murder, ghosts, and monsters) -- WTNV (a pretty even mixture of funny and creepy) -- HFTH (mostly creepy but the funny sneaks in bc the narrator and characters are amazing)

Feathers and Scales
Aliens probably wouldn't have them!
Honestly we can get pretty creative here, feathers and scales are pretty specific evolutionary traits that would be near impossible to unintentionally recreate. How about aliens covered in coral like growths, or who's skin is really just organic plating attached to the muscle? The opportunities are endless!
Teeth too, now that I think about it. Anything goes for just about everything.
Of course I love the idea of aliens that mirror the traits of earth animals, but we're missing out on a big creative opportunity!
