You know what this scene translated to me? Bear with me alright...
*incoming AU; considering all the characters existed together. Also couldn't decide what should be the time period.*
It was a huge intellectual gathering in the grounds of the IISc. for her Annual Science Exhibition. Brilliant minds of the generation, old and young, scientists and professors, some buisnessmen and politicians were flocking 'ooh'-ing and 'aah'-ing around the various science projects and experiments the students/junior scientists had put on.
It was a very healthy-exchange-of-knowledge affair going around, the olds highly impressed and proud of the youngs and what they would be providing for the future of the Nation.
Under the bright blessings of the sun, however, there stood a student, wildly gesticulating, a satisfied grin on his lips, in well neat dress, hair curled with the madness of knowledge he held and explaining his project on a rocket to an ever-growing crowd around him.
The questions and complements equally rolled on his skin.
"Who is he?"
"Such an asset!"
"Sir, tell us a little bit more on the propellant turbopump"
"I need to take this young man to my institute"
"Aww he's so cute"
"Really? That's what you're thinking when he's so brilliantly explaining his rocket?"
"I, without a doubt can say, he's going to take today's cake away"
"what do you mean?"
"Don't you know? The Dean had announced that whoever's project would be decided the best, they would be given a scholarship and a grant by the PM himself who will be arriving shortly.."
"WOW! Who are his parents? They must be so proud..."
"That we are, aren't we Vikram?"
The man, addressed to, only smiled, genuine pride on his face.
There stood two men, one in a regal coat-pant-tie and another one in beige bandhgala coat, a little away from the crowd.
Later that day, after a successful delivery of the exhibition, the participating students all brimming with excitement and mingling with the genius minds around them. Some truly wanted to gain knowledge, while majority sought for a connection.
Dr. Bhaba and Dr. Sarabhai had their fair share of fan flocking around them. The crowd took great enjoyment from the charm and level headed confidence that exuded from the duo.
"What to be more expected from these two?" Pandit ji chuckled as he made way through the crowd to the two men, accompanied by Dr. Raman by his side. "Charming people wherever they go"
The people around them laughed.
"During their times in this college, Pandit ji", Dr. Raman said, "I remember them keeping all the other students on their toes and including them in their scientific artistry.."
".. and madness" someone from the crowd, probably another fellow scientist.
Dr. Raman danced his eyebrows and smirked "and madness.. in the very same college ground."
"What a legacy, Homi and Vikram" Panditji proudly called out to them. Homi looked like a smug cat and Vikram like a shy one.
"Thank you, Bhai" Homi said sincerely.
"And now your protégé in this very same grounds. Can't say I'm not proud of the sacred land of this institute" Dr. Raman smiled.
Upon seeing the questioning look on Pandit ji's face and the eager crowd, Dr. Raman called out,
"Mr. Kalam."
The very same curly haired student with the exuberant energy with his rocket, earlier, now came forward from his own group of crowd and joined the group, with calm in his aura.
He gestured adab, and came to stand in between his two father figures.
"An honour to meet you, Sir"
The whole room seemed to have illuminated with the sheer power the three held and in the presence of a Nobel Laureate.
The crowd gasped.
Protégé?
Well, that partly explained why this student was a new science genius!
"Pandit ji", Dr. Raman began, "I think, considering today's projects, its time we talk about Mr. Kalam's grant and his future with his guardians."
Pandit ji chinned up at the three men.
Vikram, gone was his shy nature, now proud like a lion, placed his hand on Kalam's shoulder. Homi practically preened with the smugness he couldn't hold in himself.
"Then we must go to the office room now."
Before the office room, the three sat all in their bubble.
"Feeling tensed?" Vikram quitely asked.
Kalam gave a nervous smile.
"It happens."
"And everytime you'll visit next to collect another grant". Homi announced.
The underlying words were not missed. Kalam had a great future ahead.
"Thank you si-" Kalam was quickly cut off by the soft glare both the elder men shot at him.
He smiled, "Thank you baba."
For the inside of his office Pandit ji called, "Come in, my mad scientists!"
TLDR: Proud fathers waiting outside the Dean's office to discuss their son's undoubtedly potential bright future. Yes, that is what I took away from the scene. None can change my mind.
Anyway, how are your exam going? I hope you're well enough! Can't wait for the next chapters of your story.. ❤️🚀

Will never get tired looking at this hug, the way Varadha was taking a big stride towards deva almost running into his arms and throwing himself in his embrace with such force that their bodies (and Varadha's whole jewelry) shook from the impact while Deva readily caught him in his arms (if Varadha was a girl I am sure we would even have a scene where Deva lifted him off his feet and spun him around).
Deva pulling Varadha closer hugging him impossibly tighter his expression was clear like he was determined and already made up his mind at that point that nothing can separate them anymore. Just look at that possessive hold he has on Varadha's body, the way his fingers dig on his back pressing so closely or that grip on his waist, the veins popping up on his forehead the tight closed lips, Deva really was feeling angry at their situation like enough is enough of waiting, I have endured enough and there’s no more day without you by my side, he will never let Varadha go ever again that’s why he was so ready to go with Varadha even before Varadha even uttered a single word to ask him to come with him to Khansaar.
And Varadha, Varadha hold Deva like he had missed him so much he can barely stand it, he looks so young and fragile in Deva's safe embrace as he clung to Deva’s shoulders and tugged his head at the juncture of his neck and swayed in Deva’s arms like there's nothing he want to do in his life except to be held by Deva's strong hands (because there are actually no bigger, longer hands who could hold Varadha’s thicccc body whole fully and make it look like he was just holding small baby like that)
(If I stared at these gifs much longer it almost look like Varadha's body was shaking in Deva's embrace like he was crying in his arms and Deva tried to console him by hugging him tighter "it's okay baby, it's all fine, I am here now.")
Deva didn't even want their hug to end, he want to keep Varadha in his arms longer (possessively want to merge him into his own body keeping him safe in his heart so Varadha couldn’t go anywhere anymore), Varadha literally had to pull their bodies apart with his own hands because Deva wouldn't mind at all to stand there just like that for the rest of eternity, but Varadha, he wanted to see Deva's face up close, to see how much he has changed when he wasn’t around all these years, to just take a moment and marvel at the fact that he finally could touch the man that's been occupying his mind, heart and soul all these years.
Deva didn't even want to break eye contact, he kept on staring at Varadha like he's afraid he might disappear again right in front of his eyes if he did so much as blinking.
Varadha's soft gaze almost shyly looking at Deva from under his eyelashes starting from the top of his head then slowly lowering his gaze to observe all of Deva, to take in all of his image in his memory so he will never forget about him, his lips quiver almost like he wanted to say Deva's name over and over again to make sure that this moment is real that Deva is real because he has been chanting his name his whole life like a prayer hoping he would manifest right in front of him when he’s scared and lonely and hopeless and now finally his Deva is truly here with him in flesh and blood.
This hug is really one for the reunion of all time and I love how Prashanth build the mood for this hug, even after they have done hugging they still linger with each other like neither want to rush the moment especially with the way Varadha still holding on Deva's arm even after they realized that Amma was in the room with them, he released his hold on Deva by slowly caressing his arm as he let go.
Usually this kind of hug it would just be like two bros hugging and nothing intimate in the way it was frame from the camera angle but this hug was intentional from the background of the big fan to build up the romantic atmosphere and the whole focus point for us to see how good they look when they stood together and how the symbolism of Varadha’s presence eclipses Deva’s…like they were each other’s moon and sun (Deva is clearly the sun because he’s scorching hot like angry unstoppable flame and Varadha is his moon that can calm his rage, Varadha operates this silent but deadly strength that could wreck havoc with the tidal wave of the ocean and drown anyone in his path). Please someone draw deva ☀️ and varadha 🌕 as moon and sun.
Even though I was hoping that it was a longer hug but this was more than enough of what I usually get, so yeah this hug is like my top three of best reunion hug of all time. 👏👏👏💯💯💯👑👑👑

Varadha Rajamannar is one of the best written female coded male characters that Indian cinema has come up with in recent memory and that’s exactly what makes the story so intriguing cause here is a dude in a Prashant Neel movie whose instant response to everything is not manslaughter and with how dismissive Indian cinema has always been of “feminine traits” like self control and sacrifice and restraint and the fact that Varadha’s are not shown as a weakness that makes him less of a man but as something that qualifies him to be the actual Emperor of the whole land is so exciting and is such a remarkable achievement in this essay I will-

Can you see the patterns?

Do you see what I see? Hombale production using a picture of their hero being hugged by their loved one for their song thumbnail 😂😂 and the funniest thing about this part is that varadeva hug (mlm couple) being the one with the most intimate gesture. Thank you Prithvi and Prabhas sir. (I mean, in the movie we didn’t even get the angle with Varadha hugging Deva, while in Kantara and KGF the scene was already there in the movie. They just screenshot it for edit but for Salaar it was different case entirely lol just because Hombale really wanted to stay with their theme (hero being hugged by their heroines 🤣) they used the angle that wasn’t even in the movie, the dedication, lmao because I think they want to show how the hero was so loved by their lovers no matter what kind of person they are)
Also I am sorry but the way Deva and Varadha hug it’s so easy to imagine them hugging tightly this way in different occasions, especially on the bed so here take my silly edit 😂

love (ˈləv) noun.
varadeva.
Deva is not your typical tortured protagonist.
Normally, characters that are acclimatized to violence have become that way because of circumstances throughout their life, or due to traumatic experiences.
but Deva?
Deva was born with these tendencies. He wasn't molded by life into the violent being that he is now – he has always been that way. Violence was his first and most natural way of responding to any emotion that was too overwhelming for him.
• it must have been hard initially for Deva, growing up with no one to understand the way he worked intrinsically.
Deva, in his most natural state, is violence personified, but his mother isn't able to accept this aspect of his personality.
She detests it, in fact – and it's just gotten worse, especially now that she has witnessed in some way, the extent that Deva can go for varadha people things he feels strongly about.
She refuses to watch him fight, and cannot bear to see him associated with violence in any way, shape, or form.
In short, she cannot accept him.
While Deva's mom needs eyes on him at all times though,

Varadha trusts him to do what is right.
and this is Varadha's love for Deva:
this is what Varadha brings to the relationship; and it's so easy to overlook because it's something Varadha does so well.
He accepts Deva exactly the way he is.
and the fact that, throughout the movie, you never see a direct expression of Varada's love towards Deva, just proves that it never leaves in the first place – Varadha's love for Deva is persistent and unyielding.
Varadha has embraced Deva's 'big emotions' since they were children, and the comfort this has fostered is so embedded within Deva that it's probably the only reason Deva can live with himself right now, especially with his mom convincing him he is a monster at every possible chance.
Deva's love for Varadha, on the other hand, is very obvious, because again: his emotions manifest very tangibly
Deva knows what Varadha needs the most – he truly sees Varadha's insecurities and inherent complexity.
Underneath Varadha's composure, restraint, and calm confidence, is a boy who is terrified of the future. of his father. for his brother.
Varadha sometimes says the opposite of what he feels in an effort to protect himself from vulnerability, but Deva has learnt to read him. Varadha doesn’t make his motives clear often, but Deva trusts him to reveal things in time. He never pressures Varadha for information, or questions him.
• It even goes against every cell in Varadha's body to request protection and demand love, especially after the kind of treatment he's faced from those that should have been expected to show him love.
and Deva understands this, and is there to protect and love Varadha, without a second thought.
It's a very mutual relationship, between two people who are there for each other exactly how the other needs them, and the fact that they never had to try to fit each other, just shows how much they're made for each other.
— love, a definition: part three [part one / part two]
