MATH THE BAND BANNED THE MATH!!! I’m doing band portraits to go with articles for my last hand in. This piece is to accompany an album review that described Stupid and Weird like consuming a whole bunch of sugar in space.

Between sets at Phish Superball IX, I discovered the What Cheer? Brigade from Providence, RI. I thought I’d landed in Portland, OR. Seeing these guys for 15 minutes was absolutely one of my biggest highlights from the fest - they are absolutely fantastic, “an aggressive mix of Bollywood, The Balkans, New Orleans, Samba and Hip-Hop, played with the intensity of metal”.
Whatever it is, it’s a marching band full of black and tattoo clad weirdos and what they play is absolutely intense and 100% danceable. I’m in love.
Check them out and buy their music on http://www.whatcheerbrigade.com/
