If Anakin had left the Order to be with Padmé, meaning he no longer had to wear his Jedi robes, what would you imagine his new civilian wardrobe to be like? For instance, would he still choose to wear leather and dark colors, or would he go for something different?
Hi! Admin Lili here, I’ve talked about Anakin’s wardrobe on my blog before, so I’m really excited to go further into this. I’ve spent two days collecting my evidence, so lets jump into this!
*Disclaimer: I am not nor have I ever been a part of the Star Wars wardrobe team, but I am in college for technical theatre and take costuming courses as an extension of my degree*
Now, I fully believe Anakin Skywalker moves away from course materials, and also the color tan. He’s one of the only jedi to be seen wearing darker colors, and I do not believe it is because he is “angsty” or because he is destined to fall. I think it has to do with his rejection of Tatooine, and his life there. From what we can see of the fashions on Tatooine, they tend to wear lighter colors, and what looks to be very course materials. If we take a look at Anakin’s clothing from the time he was a slave, they look very uncomfortable.

This outfit quite honestly looks like he is wearing a burlap sack. The clothes look thin but at the same time heavy? It basically looks like leftover fabric fit for a slave. If you look closely at the sleeves, the material folds and wrinkles in a way that genuinely looks like thin hessian fabric. There’s even a few snags that you can see by the threads being pulled. What looks to be a beaded or metal color holding up the shirt seems to be horribly uncomfortable, and I imagine it felt awful to wear. I also think this boy owns two shirts.

The outfit itself seems to be loose, with an ill fitting tunic and loose pants, but it just genuinely looks so uncomfortable for a child to be wearing. Especially a child forced to work. If we take a look at Kitster’s clothes we can also see the rough material and wraps around his wrists.

Personally, I think this looks worse to wear, it looks heavier and impossibly rougher. If you look at Shmi’s clothing it follows along the same theme. Overall I think clothing on Tatooine is a necessity to keep out the rough sand and that is it, especially for slaves.
In his later jedi robes, we can see double layered sewn outer robes, with a normal undershirt underneath. From what I have seen, the outerrobes are made from a crinkled cotton fabric, and the undershirt is made from silk noil, which is the leftover fiber from spinning wool. It’s literally such a soft fabric.

The jedi robes are known to be soft, and loose. Allowing for the body to be free to twist and light enough to not weigh down a battle ready jedi.
Because of everything stated here, I think Anakin would lean towards darker colors and soft, light, and loose fabrics. The very few scenes we have of him show what probably would be his style.
For example, in Attack of the Clones we see a hint of what would probably be his casual Nabooian wear. I firmly believe Anakin would lean towards matching his wife, Padmé, and therefore would wear a lot of more royal traditional Nabooian clothing. It all stems down to being the husband of a Senator and ex-queen. Plus I doubt Padmé would let him walk around looking like a heathen. For these next photos I took the time to highlight the looseness of them. This man hates tight fitting clothing. Even his armor in the Clone Wars was a loose tunic, instead of the tighter fitting robes Obi-Wan wore.

As seen here, he is in a fancy patterned tunic, with a light breezy undershirt. The colors are brown, and still away from tan (or at least the light tan seen in his clothes from Tatooine). He even has a cute lil fancy ascot. If he were to go with the traditional more royal garb of Naboo, we can expect him to be wearing fancy tunics and knee high boots, which isnt such a far cry from his jedi robes. I feel he would be very comfortable in this style of clothing. For casual clothing I genuinely think he woulds stick with the theme of a loose undershirt and thats it as seen here: (Please enjoy my highlighting the looseness of clothes, my original plan for this post was different)

We can also see his preference for loose/ thin shirts in his sleepwear:

Now, if he were to continue doing any sort of fighitng (Like being a guard for his wife, or leading slave rebellions of some sort) I would think he would take on the fighter clothes of Naboo seen here:

From these examples we can see pops of color, with an over-layer of leather. Once again very similar to his Jedi robes, as he wears leather armor with his traditional robes.
In conclusion, if Anakin were to leave the Jedi order for Padmé we would see a very similar but Nabooian stylized wardrobe. We can expect that he would wear loose shirts and pants, with an over-layer of a tunic. I think he would opt for the leathers because Anakin added them unnecessarily to the Jedi robes. I think he would lean towards reds, blues, and other muted colors as seen in his Clone Wars armor, and the only outfit we get in Attack of the Clones that isn't a poncho or his robes. I think he would wear a belt only if he were to have a lightsaber, or if the tunic required one, otherwise I think he wouldn’t wear a belt. Overall just loose, comfy, and soft clothes.
I just don’t believe he cares very much about the style of his clothes, and only really cares about the functionality and feeling. I don’t imagine they would stray far from the outfits we have seen.
Thanks for letting me ramble about something I care about a lot, and I am always game to talk about technical aspects of Star Wars.
