ACOTAR Rant
Have y'all missed these? I have. The rambling juice machine is running again apparently.
Okay, so I just saw a post @an6elic-d3vil made about the scene in Frozen where Elsa freezes Anna's heart reminding them of Tamlin's outburst in the study in ACOMAF, and it triggered a very very long rant about this. You can find the original post here, I didn't want to hijack it with my senseless rambling.
Also, side note, I think I've gone into some detail about what I'm going on about here before. I don't think I've ever made a full explanation of my line of thinking. But just to preface, if I get a singular comment or reblog calling me an abuse apologist, a victim blamer or a misogynist, you will not be acknowledged and you will be blocked.
Anyway, onto the rant.
Honestly, this is the best example of what happened between Tamlin and Feyre. No one blames Elsa for harming Anna, despite her finally accessing full power, no one would expect her to have full control over them, she had lived in fear of them her entire life. She saw herself as a monster who could hurt or potentially kill Anna, and when eventually pushed to her absolute breaking point, she exploded. Anna wasn't at fault either, but later on, it's clear she recognized that Elsa wasn't in full control, and that what she had done was not an example of her true character but a reaction she had no control over.
It's the same situation with Feyre, minus how Anna handled the situation, Tamlin had just gotten back the full extent of his powers, whilst still under immense stress. He canonically did not want the High lord's magic, and viewed himself as a monster who could hurt or potentially kill those around him. He lived in fear of himself, and when eventually pushed to his absolute breaking point, he exploded. It was a natural reaction that he had no control over whatsoever. Feyre was not at fault for it either, but unlike Anna, Feyre actively went out of her way to attribute this outburst to Tamlin's true character, when it was obviously a reaction that he actively regretted.
Tamlin then tried to reign in his magic, despite still being under immense stress, and having to deal with power that was out of control. He tried to be better, but unlike Anna with Elsa, who tried to help Elsa, Feyre sabotaged his attempts and purposefully pushed him to the point that he would lose control of his magic, and then put herself in harms way so that she could ruin his reputation.
When you look at it how it is and not through the eyes of Feyre's biased POV, what Feyre did to Tamlin when she returned to the Spring Court, is far more sinister.
Was Feyre being harmed by Tamlin's outburst of magic the first time her fault? No, of course not.
Was Feyre being harmed by Tamlin's outburst of magic the second time, when she manipulated him into having an attack, and then went out of her way to ensure he harmed her so that she could ruin his reputation and therefore destabilize the Court, her fault? HMMMMM....
Not to mention that throughout that scene, at least from my shitty memory, Tamlin was aware that he was slowly reaching his breaking point, and telling, practically pleading with Feyre, to stop, so that he didn't hurt her by accident.
Hmm, an orchestrated pattern of behavior, in this case preying on your partner's fear and high-functioning anxiety that is driven by their intense trauma, that centers around forcing a reaction out of them so that you can maintain power and control over how other people perceive them for your own personal gain? Sounds a lot like...
Tumblr media
On a side note, I'm also kind of done with the continued rhetoric that Feyre should have 'just gone after Tamlin' and left the rest of the Spring Court alone. Because, honest to God, explain to me why she is justified in abusing Tamlin.
"He locked her up." She was attempting to follow him onto dangerous territory, despite being untrained, in a new body, and having a history of running into dangerous situations and winding up needing to saved. Even when it came to Amarantha, Feyre DIED. She has never succeeded once in protecting herself on her own when in a highly dangerous situation, she always ended up needing someone beside her or to rescue her.
"He was controlling her." He had a few sentries ensure that she would not be in harm's way. They had Amarantha's big boss coming at them and Feyre just killed one of his biggest assets, you don't think that Tamlin wouldn't be smart enough to know that Hybern would have his eyes set on Feyre?
Should Tamlin have helped Feyre in training her new powers? Yes. Did his fear of losing Feyre again blind him to what she actually needed? Also yes. But I implore you to refer to the Elsa and Anna example above. Now, that's a little bit different, Elsa was the one locking herself away, but the principle remains. Elsa controlled Anna in not allowing her to marry Hans, hiding information that caused the entire plot of the movie, and wound up harming Anna significantly because of this. But the important thing to note is that, Elsa didn't know any better. How could she have known that Anna would be able to handle this information when it literally almost killed them as kids? Plus, no one would ever say Elsa wasn't entirely correct in telling Anna she could not marry Hans, she did know better in that regard. Why would Tamlin want to involve Feyre in more magic, when she literally died a few months ago after getting too involved with Fae? And why would Tamlin not know better than Feyre when it came to her following him on a dangerous mission, he has been in these situations before, and knows more about them.
Feyre was traumatized and needed a space that Tamlin could not give her, but Tamlin needed a space that Feyre couldn't give him either. They didn't help each other, they weren't physically able to, and neither were in a mental state in which they could successfully care for the other. And that is neither of their fault. But I again ask you, why is that a reason that Feyre should be allowed to abuse Tamlin as 'punishment'?
I have absolutely strayed from the original point I wanted to make, but I'm sort of glad I did. I've never considered Elsa and Anna as a possible example of Feyre and Tamlin's relationship and yet, it's almost a perfect reflection. Trauma will change the way people think, and when panicked people lose their rationale. Tamlin should have done things differently, and later on, when he saw how his actions led to Feyre ending up in the Night Court, he actively tried to be better.
If any of you have anything to add, please do. I think there is also something to be said about the power imbalance between Feyre and Tamlin, but I think it's also similar to that of Elsa and Anna, where Elsa is Queen and Anna is the Princess.
Also, obviously, Feyre's fucked up perception of Tamlin is driven by SJM trying to break up Feylin to make Feysand happen, so a lot of things that Tamlin does are just... very random? They happen not because, Tamlin as a character would do that, but because SJM is trying to make Tamlin a horrible person. Which she is failing to do, because all of these things happen off screen, e.i killing the sentries who were on duty when Morrigan kidnapped Feyre, giving Lucien a black eyes and a split lip, etc. We don't see the very random acts of cruelty on screen, and if we do see acts of cruelty, they tend to be for a good reason. For example, the wraiths that had nothing to give for the Tithe, and Tamlin being like "Well you give something, or you're gonna be hunted down." This happens because, one- everyone has to do it, no exceptions are ever made, and two- what each person has is calculated and their taxes are all equal to the amount they have, which is extremely fair tbh.
So, yeah, this is my very long post of why Feyre is actually a really shitty character and what she did to Tamlin and the Spring Court was not a #girlyboss move, but actually a "You abused your ex for funzies" move.

Ok guys so I just rewatched frozen (yes at my big age) and you know that scene where Anna goes to visit Elsa in her ice palace and they’re arguing and Anna is like talking to Elsa, but Elsa is low-key having a mental breakdown and she’s going through it trying to get Anna stop and then it gets to a point where she can’t take it anymore and then she accidentally has an magical outburst and she accidentally hurt Anna. Why did that remind me of Tamlin and Feyre ? I don’t know, I just thought that needed to be shared with you guys

THIS
Because while there was sexual tension between them it wasn’t their whole relationship.
I miss the sweet type of love we witnessed pre-UTM.
Going on rides exploring the court, sunbathing on flowery glades, swimming on lakes, painting your loved one, dancing, getting serenaded, slowly getting to know each other.

Masterpost #1
Topic: Cassian is an abusive bastard
- Told Nesta everyone hates her
- Told her he couldn't understand why her sisters loved her
- Harassed her even when she continuously told him to leave her alone
- Followed her home
- Locked her up and acted as her jailer. Forced her to train as a warrior because she was using sex as a coping mechanism and proceeded to abuse that coping mechanism and have sex with her when she was at her most emotionally vulnerable
- Had sex with her at a time he had so much authority over her he dictated what she ate
- Purposely had Azriel pack a heavy bag so she would physically suffer on the hike
- Didn't stand up for her or even blink when Rhysand threatened to kill her
- Realized she was suicidal and continued to force her on a hike with lethal drops and didn't bother to look back at her for hours and days until she fainted
- Didn't tell her that Feyre wasn't angry with her anymore, leaving her in mental agony for days
- Forced her to physically exert herself while simultaneously using mental abuse until she collapsed physically and had a complete mental breakdown
- Had sex with her after her mental breakdown as some sort of reward for finally breaking for him
- Sexualized her and focused on her boobs after pointing out that she was emaciated from not eating because she was so depressed
- Used her fathers death against her because she *checks notes* wouldn't eat her plain oatmeal
- Put hands on her directly after finding out about Tomas and wouldn't let go until she physically hurt him the only way she could
- Planned for 10 minutes how to rile her up and argue with her and then villainized her
- He has built their entire relationship on spite, he treats her like an obligation something broken he needs to fix but never with understanding or empathy. Something that was forced on him pursued her against her will while ignoring her boundaries. Their entire relationship is based on power plays and asserting dominance over her
- Borderline violent and degrading sex with no aftercare while she is at her lowest
- Using her body to calm his own frustrations while blatantly ignoring her emotional state
- Emotional manipulation. He consistently uses her vulnerability against her, pushes her to get better on his terms while simultaneously throwing her failures in her face, making her feel unworthy, abusing her coping mechanisms, laughing at her pain. Perpetuating that she is only worthy if she falls in line with what he and the IC want from her. He consistently attempts to mold her into being someone more palatable (Feyre) rather than accepting who she is and helping her for who she is
- He contributes directly to her ultimate breakdown. He does nothing to help when she's quite literally begging for support and even goes so far as to worsen her situation repeatedly
- Villainizing her even when she's being perfectly placid. Eg. During the solstice scene she is pleasant, she wishes Feyre HB, thanks Elain for her gifts profusely, speaks nicely with Azriel, sits back and allows them to exchange gifts without interfering (though they forced her to be there and got her nothing), kisses Elain fondly before leaving, she mostly just sits their the entire time and Cassians POV afterwards?? "He'd had enough of the coldness, the sharpness. Enough of the sword straight spine and sharp stare." Not that she was blackmailed into coming, ignored all night and had gifts flaunted in front of her and was STILL pleasant
- Agreed with Mor when she equated Nesta with her borderline evil abusers. AND thought about how he was blown away by Mor's beauty while she sat there saying that Nesta should be tortured in a dungeon
- Affirmed her insecurities every chance he could
- Heard about how she was groomed and preyed on at 14 and made it about himself
- Judged her for being a child and not parenting another child the first second he met her even though she allowed him into her home
- Sees how strong her emotions are for others and then later claims that "she barely seems to care about anyone other than Elain"
- Laughs when she falls down the stairs, she has bruises and a black eye from this fall
- Doesn't correct her when she voices her feeling that she isn't good enough for him and doesn't deserve him
- Laughs behind her back that Rhysand is happy she will hate the hike
- She collapses every day on the hike and never speaks and all he says is "at least remove the pack so I can cook myself dinner"
- Works her to the point of literally fainting face first and he yells at her
- When she breaks down finally and tells him how much she hates herself, he tells her how much he loves Rhysand
- Claims there is nothing broken to be fixed yet he forces her to obey him and change everything about herself and behave in the way he approves of
- When she attempts to be open and communicative with him and explains how mate doesn't mean to her what it means to him because she's still human at heart he dismisses her and says it's bullshit
- When she calls in her bargain he doesn't respect it and immediately thinks of a way to get around it. He does not respect her or the boundaries she attempts to set. She says she wants a week alone yet he shows up the very next day and acts like she just wasn't clever enough to evade him
- While she is terrified and hoping he will come rescue her from the blood rite he says he even if he could he wouldn't
- He never says I love you NOT ONCE
- When Rhysand yells at and threatens Nesta for helping Bryce, Cassian does not defend her and even joins in and snarls at her
- Says he can take whatever she throws at him and then literally two seconds later he fucks her out of it for saying something mildly rude about Rhysand
The fact that I could keep going and going but I'm just too angry. Cassian sucks and anyone who likes him is perpetuating the forgiveness of abusive men. I don't care if he is a fictional character, he is a carbon copy of real life abusive men and the support of him and blatant ignoring of his abuse is disgusting and harmful. I'm sorry but anyone who claims to love Nesta but loves Cassian?? Uh YA LYING. If your best friend or your mother was being treated the way Cassian treats Nesta would you be happy with their relationship? I don't think so.

When I saw what the fandom thought about him I just knew it was going be some bullshit and I was right
You know what,
After reading about Rhysand
twisting Feyre's broken arm and using her pain against her to force her to agree to a bargain
AND
drugging her and forcing her to perform lap dances for him (which resulted in her becoming physically sick and throwing up)
I thought to myself,
'damn, if this kind of shit can just be swept under the rug under the guise of -it-was-all-for-your-own-good-feyre- because of how much the fandom loves Rhysand, then Tamlin must have done some truly fucked up shit.'
but he just... locked her up in a manor for like ten seconds?

chapter 42
Imo not enough is said (or at least I don't see enough) about chapter 42 of acomaf, which is the throne scene with Rhysand and Feyre.
I think it is one of the worst and most hypocritical scenes i have ever read in my life and shows how Rhysand is a man who is willing to put power before everything.
At that moment Feyre did not know about the bond, but Rhysand did. Despite this, he decided to introduce Feyre into the worst part of his Court as a whore. Just as he was to Amarantha. He humiliated her in front of everyone, talking about her as if she was a mere piece of meat.
When they returned he brought Feyre back as High Lady. A title invented by him that actually has no value and destroys the whole concept of the Courts, but these are conversations I'll address in another post. Everyone recognized her as his whore, of course. And when they referred to her that way (rightly so, since that's what they recognize her for) he had the nerve to get angry.
Not only is he a hypocrite because having suffered the exact same thing himself, why would you do that to your mate?
And more importantly, how did you expect them to respond to Feyre the next time? That they would bow down and respect her when you first didn't, making this kind of thing seem okay? Or that as soon as they heard that you made her High Lady they would start kissing the floor where she walks?
He's also stupid, since the objectification of Feyre in that scene is totally unnecessary. Sjm wrote it thinking "oh, readers will definitely like this one" but didn't realize that it's the most disgusting thing a loved one can do especially if it has no value to the plot. It didn't benefit him or his Court or their plan, it just humiliated her.
"But Rhysand needed a distraction because Azriel had to get the sphere or whatever." Okay? Distract them in other ways? It's the same thing as UTM. Don't use these things as excuses for what he did. Also, Azriel is a fucking spy. Let him do his job. AND RHYSAND IS AN HIGH LORD??? just take that fucking thing and go lol even if it wasn't his he can do whatever he wants without the need to justify himself.
"But Feyre liked it." Nobody here is talking about liking it. This is about the dehumanization of a woman who doesn't deserve it.
sorry i had to vent i hate him too much

While I don’t exactly like Feyre, if you couldn’t already tell, her relationship with Reeses Feces is incredibly toxic and it always baffles me how they’re married. Like the amount of blatant manipulation he uses is crazy. Honestly I don’t think most of the characters from ACOTAR should be together but I digress…
Free Feyre Campaign.
Because what Rhysand is giving her is not love.
Its control.
It's power and abuse.
It's manipulation.

But then people will still go out of their way to defend Cassian
“He was hurt by her words” BITCH I DONT GIVE A FUCK
In what world you do this to your soulmate??? The one person truly for you???
Like please help me understand
Rereading ACOSF and Nesta and Cassian’s first sex scene ended in such a fucked up way, imo.
Despite obviously feeling a connection and saying he was “beyond lies right now” after calling her “sex” beautiful, Cassian immediately switches up and stonewalls her. She had said “just sex” at first when they began messing around, yes, but you can tell he pulled this just to spite her and leave her reeling.
Especially how when complimented she said “no one’s ever called it beautiful before”, showed him her genuine self and shared that the experience was “too good”. Almost like she knew it was too good to not end with some kind of punishment and pain, like everything in her life had up to that point.
I just found this so… ick. I’ve been in a position like that where someone just changes their demeanor and shows complete loss of interest in you after they’re satisfied and it’s such a disgusting feeling of being used. She even said she felt empty afterwards. And she had been self harming via sex before this (WHICH WAS ONE OF THE REASONS SHE WAS LOCKED IN THE HOUSE OF WIND!!!) and he did this. Again, ick

The way some of y’all talk about reeses feces (RhySAnd) like you know him is beyond wild to me. Like when you guys attempt to defend him you just sound like Feyre throwing a tantrum because nobody likes her mate.
Tamlin Stan: Feyre and Rhysand are toxic for each other and they both suck ass at communicating. The only reason they’re better at it than Feyre and Tam is because they can read each other’s minds. They rarely ever ‘talk’ about things….
Feces Stan: Nuh uh how dare you disrespect my beautiful, black haired, so blue they look violet(tf does that even mean???) eyed god that realistically would discard me so quick! 👹👹
No because you want to live in the night court??? You, a women, in the night court?? Rightttt. Your totally not gonna get abused👍🏾
The thing you claim to hate so much when someone else does it but when Rhysand someone in the inner circle does it there’s hundreds of explanations, reasons, and theories. Make it make fucking sense.
