Who: Open Where: The Hoping Pot
Amos was not ready to call it a night yet. He and a group of friends had been out drinking for a few hours and people were slowly starting to leave. His group was now dwindling down and Amos could tell they weren’t going to last much longer. He needed to find a way to make the rest of them stay. He was not in any mood to spend the rest of the evening alone in his house. He wasn’t nearly drunk enough yet and had a few more dances moves in him yet. “Oi” Amos shouted at the person who had just shuffled past him “will you tell these lot that it’s far too early to be calling it a night and that their evening is much better spent here?” It was a long shot but Amos didn’t have any other ideas yet, if nothing else it would help him stall til he could think of something better.

The days following the ball had passed quickly, it seemed like there was so much to be done in such a short time, but Laurel was grateful for Amos’ and the rest of her friends help with the Fountain. It was up and running again, thankfully, but she knew things weren’t going to be the same. People were all on edge with the revelation of sides being introduced and with Adairia’s connection being right in the center, it was only a matter of time before people started putting two and two together to realize the Fountain had been headquarters. But with the promise of an actual date, the blonde was happy to get away from everything for a while with Amos. She was used to their dates being a surprise from when he was just a visiting client but things had changed since then, so she was rather giddy to see what he had planned when he picked her up to only whisk her away to a meadow. As her eyes adjusted to the view, traveling over the open fields before settling on the picnic set up under one of the trees. “It’s very beautiful out here,” Laurel smiled, more than happy to take the cushion next to him, “And it’s probably very much needed. For both of us.” While she didn’t know of everything going on, she had a feeling work had been just as busy for the both of them lately.
🦚
"It is" Amos replied. "Me and Arthur used to play out here as kids- my family live just across there" he explained, pointing in the direction of his childhood home "i figured that i've already taken you on the more luxurious dates and this would be something different- an insight in to the life of Amos Diggory." Sometimes simple was better. For all his theatrics, all Amos really wanted in a relationship was someone to come to- a person he could be vulnerable around, who loved him for the somewhat messy person that he was. He craved that with every part of his being but it wasn't an easy task, especially with his tendency to self sabotage. "Though of course i'm still me" he added playfully "so the food and drink is world class." He wasn't ashamed of liking the finer things in life, while he had inheritance money, he also earn a good wage and mostly paid for things out of that, choosing to invest his family’s money in to things instead. "Where do you want to start- we have pumpkin and parmesan arancini, smoked salmon parcels, haloumi fritters..." amos continued guiding Laurel through the food he'd had prepared. "I also figured we could sort of play a little game, get to know each other better- take in turn to answer questions- and we get like a pass each to use if we need it- what do you think?"

Emmeline had to admit that drinking with Amos wasn’t too bad. He was pretty good company, even if they didn’t know each other that well. She’d not really see him as anything other than work competition before, but she was wondered if maybe she’d been wrong to not get to know him. “Mmm….. next time then” She murmured, a smirk on her face. Smiling at the bartender, she pushed the water towards him. “Drink.” And she really was not going to be saying no for an answer. Amos was a good auror, and they couldn’t afford him to do something stupid whilst drunk tht would get him fired. She raised an eyebrow at his next words, and she had to chose her own carefully. Whilst she didn’t want to lie to him, she didn’t want him blurting out that she was in the Order. She would like to keep it to herself for as long as she could. “Maybe….” She murmured, clearly concerned about his feelings, even if she wasn’t going to tell him all the truth. “He was trying to protect you? You do enough at work…..”
🦚
Amos looked at the glass of water Emmeline was shoving at him. The rational side of his brain knew he should probably drink it, he'd already opened his mouth too much. He reluctantly took the glass, trying to think of a way to navigate himself out of the hole he'd just dug. At least he didn't name Arthur, hopefully he would get away with that. "I don't need that protection though- i'm a fucking capable wizard" Amos was still struggling to keep his tone even "it should've been my choice to make y'know." At least if he'd know about it, it could've been his decision, he also had less to risk than Arthur. Arthur had Molly who was soon to be his wife. Amos didn't have that, yes he was at the beginnings of something with Laurel but it was new and she was in the Order too. Although, Molly could be for all he knew. "If you were in my shoes, you'd be pissed off too- you can't tell me that you wouldn't" he challenged. He didn't even really know he was talking to her about it anyway. "I mean whatever right" amos shrugged, trying to back out of the conversation "its just a been a long day, i'll get over it, got better things to do with my time anyway."

“Good Observational skills dear.” Alecto laughed, shaking her head. She knew really she should probably have stayed sober, considering how wasted he was. But, she couldn’t quite make herself do that. She smirked, taking the shot, and downing it. She wasn’t usually a shot girl. She was much more sophisticated than that, but she could sometimes could handle them. “Yeah….” She mused, just shrugging at him. “But I’m the girl that catches the bad guys. Who’s gonna arrest me? You?” She asked, still smirking. That was unlikely, considering how wasted her was. Emmeline frowned at his next words, motioning for a waiter to come over, and she ordered herself a wine, and him a tall glass of water. “Your best friend betrayed you?”
🦚
Amos relaxed as Emmeline finally took the shot. "I think that I should probably not answer that with so much drink in me right now" Amos stated. He knew Emmeline was known for being flirtatious and knew she didn't mean anything by it, but still he figured there was lines not to be crossed. Loyalty was one of his strongest traits, and it wasn't worth damaging that for a throwaway quip. Amos didn't know why he hadn't expected a follow up question, he didn't want to put arthur in any danger, but he did trust Emmeline. At least as much as Amos ever trusted anyone. How to phrase this? "Lets just say a certain friend of mine, decided to join this Order thing- and clearly thought I wasn't worth an invite" Amos knew he would regret this when he was sober "i'm only ever good for one thing right- so I don't why I should be surprised"

Emmeline rarely went drinking in pubs. Not alone anyway. But she’d promised herself that she was going to have more balance in her life, and she wasn’t going to work so much. That meant she actually had to go and do stuff. Emmeline knew that if she just sat at home, that she would get stuck in doing more work. And so that was why she found herself at the pub tonight. She intended to maybe have one drink. make somem friends and then go home. She wasn’t expecting to see Amos there. “Ugh….” She grumbled, instantly hating that nickname. “That’s because you are already wasted Amos” The auror murmured as she sat down. “And use that nickname again and I will end you”
🦚
"Well you're already sober so" Amos quipped back with shrug, sliding one of the shots he'd ordered over to her "enjoy it." Amos thought she looked like she needed it. Ministry related blues he expected, though if Emmeline was getting fed up what hope was there for the rest of them. "You know threatening someone in public is frowned upon" he raised his eyebrows jokingly "but fine, if you drink, i'll use something else." As much as he enjoyed winding her up, he didn't have the energy right now. He was also never sure if one day she might follow through on one of the threats she'd sent his way, not worth risking it. "I'll tell you what" Amos announced as an idea came to his head "let's play a game- take a shot if your best friend just betrayed you." Amos downed his shot dramatically, a false smile painted on his face.

Who: @emmelinevancx Where: Unnamed pub in wizarding London
Amos still hadn't approached Arthur about hiding it from him that he'd joined some secret society. He was struggling with it. Unable to understand why his best friend, the person he trusted most in the world, didn't think that Amos was worthy of an invite to join. The decision to keep his emotions to himself was eating him alive, but he also didn't want to bother Laurel with it either, she had enough on her plate and he didn't want to scare her away by showing her his less appealing side. All this lead to the current situation where he was sat, absolutely wasted in a pub. The Diggory name protecting him from being thrown out. Amos spotted a familiar face. "Emsywemsy, come join me" he shouted, his words slightly slurred "everyone here is boring and wont drink with me"

Who: @laurel-linwood Where: A meadow outside Amos’ family home
With things at the Ministry being chaotic and spending his spare time helping Laurel and her family sort out the fountain. It took a while before Amos was actually able to take Laurel on the date he'd promised. When he'd taken on dates through her work, they had been extravagant, no expenses spared kind of dates, so he wanted to do something a little different this time. Something to mark the change in their relationship, something more personal. After picking her up from where she was staying, Amos apparated them both to the location he had prepared. He had set out a picnic by the side of a meadow by his house, near the shade of one of the trees he used to climb as a child. He was thankful for the warmth of the summer day, glad it would be pleasant enough to sit outside for a while. "I thought it might be nice to take some time out to relax" he stated as he sat down on the cushions he'd brought, patting the ones next to him, signalling for Laurel to join him.

“Mmm. Thought so…” Emmeline mused a little smirk on her lips as she looked at him. To be honest, she didn’t really believe him, or at least she didn’t want to. She really hoped he wouldn’t sell gossip out about her. But, they didn’t really know each other that well, and so she couldn’t be fully sure. “Uh…. pass” She mused with a shrug. “But need I remind you that we are a little snowed under at the moment…..” And she couldn’t say no when they had work to do. The last thing she wanted to do was take days off and something happened. She would rest when this was all over. “Pinky promise? What are we? Twelve?”
"Hmm exactly" Amos commented giving her a pointed look. The way Amos saw it the Ministry was always snowed under. Yes, were these recent attacks more serious, of course, but there was rarely a day that the workload wasn't insane. That's why you had to learn to let go, or else there would always be an excuse to stay. "Such a spoilsport" he teased, rolling his eyes at her. "As wonderfully enjoyable as this conversation has been, i should be getting to Arthur" he announced, turning to walk about, before turning back briefly to add "get some sleep."

“Would that be because you’re the one that’ll leak it to Skeeter?” Emmeline teased with a little smirk. She had no intentions of letting that happen. She would go home and sleep, if only for a few hours. She just didn’t want to miss anything. She wanted to make surer that they had gotten the right people, for the right reasons. Emmeline just raised an eyebrow at him, and she just laughed. “Oh Amos. Its not that bad….” It wasn’t. She liked work, but she did have some sort of life. And it was different when a friend died, and when other friends were in jail. Ths felt more personal, and she was determined to do anything she could do, to make it better. “Anyway…. I’m actually going to go and sleep. For a few hours anyway.” And then she’d be back. She had important work to do after all.
🦚
"Absolutely" Amos answered with a cheeky smile and a little laugh "I mean my willpower just wouldn't be strong enough to resist such a fine opportunity." He didn't know if Emmeline really believe her addiction to work wasn't that or if she was just trying to play it down in front of him. Wasn't like he'd be the kind of person she'd talk on a deeper level with. They were friends, but it was still new, that trust would would have to be earned, for both of them. "Sure" he joked, raising an eyebrow "when was the last time you went a week without overtime." He would work it when a case needed it, but he needed his own life too. "Pinky promise" Amos couldn't resist the joke, relieved that she was finally stopping being stubborn.

Arthur sat in silence for a few moments, processing. Amos and Laurel were two of his favorite people, of course he wanted both of them to be happy. But the confession still took him by surprise. “I’m sorry, you caught me off guard with that one.” Arthur said with a weak chuckle. While he was aware of Laurel’s other job, he didn’t often question her about it; he knew exactly why she was working there. Swallowing thickly at the thought of the Order, Arthur looked back up at Amos. He didn’t want his best friend to become tangled in any potentially dangerous things that came from associating so closely with someone who could now be a known Order member to the Dark Lord’s Army; but of course, he had no real cover up for telling Amos no.
“I had no idea the two of you were even that close,” Arthur finally began to speak, “I mean, go for it I suppose. I feel like the two of would along nicely. Though if you hurt her in anyway, Diggory, I will be kicking your arse into next week.” A light smirk threatened to break onto his lips at that last part.| @amostheamazing
🦚
Arthur's silence made Amos nervous. He wished he'd say something. Anything really. Arthur was usually supportive of him, but would also tell Amos when he thought he was making a reckless decision. "Yeah it caught me off guard too mate, not going to lie" the fact that Arthur's words came with a chuckle made Amos feel a little better, though he was still desperately awaiting a definite opinion on it all.
"Well I mean, I didn't really want to advertise that I was paying for her time- people would've assumed the worst straight away- and I wasn't exactly expecting anything like this to happen" Amos still didn't really know why he'd made the decision to pay for company. He was glad now that he'd made that choice. Amos smiled as Arthur gave them his blessing. "Thanks" he replied "it means a lot- and you have full permission to curse me from here to America if I hurt her- it's the last thing I want to do- I might need to you advice going forward on this whole relationship thing though- don't wanna fuck up it up over something stupid"

Laurel attempted to take comfort in his arms despite the fact her slip of the tongue had now turned things a bit south. But if she was being honest with herself it was better he find out all the truth from her now rather than later on down the road if this was going to work. “I know what you mean,” She muttered, resting her head against his chest as she took a deep breath at Amos’ questions. “I know giving you such a vague answer was not the good option here and I will tell you everything.” Better to let all the secrets lay out instead of letting any of it come between them, “But I can’t speak entirely on Arthur’s situation. He may be one of my best friends but it’s not right for me to talk about his business like that, you’ll have to talk with him if you want those answers.” It was meeting him halfway, working forward but also not overstepping anyone’s situation that she let slip because of her anxiety ridden mind.
Reluctantly pulling away from him, she leaned against the hospital bed before gesturing towards the empty spot at the end, “Like I said it’s a bit of a long explanation..” Laurel wanted to find the right words to explain everything, no doubt not that she let slip there was some organization there had to be some clogs slowly turning in his head as he connected the dots. “The Order of the Phoenix is an organization that Dumbledore has started to form to protect sorcerors from what I can only guess were the masked figured that appeared at the ball,” The blonde had taken a deep breath before continuing, wanting to reach for his hand again but deciding that it would be best to let him take the lead after everything. “Originally we wanted to be the people those endangered would turn to you know, like Muggleborns or werewolves, but with everything that happened it seemed that we’ll be moving to more of an active position fighting those people.” Part of her wanted to know what was running through his mind right now as she spoke, wondering if he was more hurt to be left out or more hurt to know that her and Arthur had never mentioned the Order to him ever. “And in response to the earlier question, we can only guess that’s why I was targeted,” The witch shrugged her shoulders a bit, there was no real answer there. More than likely she had just been a victim that was a means to an end or she could’ve just been targeted for her blood. “My sister’s patronus talked of a prophecy, well the Order had the prophecy, kept it at the Fountain, and I guess I was just the easier target in order to get us away so they could take it back. And they did…”
🦚
Amos nodded as Laurel spoke, already regretting lashing out at her. He would have to work on that side of himself if he wasn't going to end up fucking all this up. He knew it was his own insecurities. His own problem. To push someone like Laurel away because of it would be devastating. "Don't...it's my fault- i shouldn't have lashed out at you- you've got a million and one things on your plate at the moment" Amos shook his head, annoyed at himself. She was right about Arthur. It was a conversation they needed to have, he just wasn't looking forward to it. Arthur was the one person that Amos was truly honest with, so for him to keep something like this from him, he couldn't help but feel betrayed. "I understand" Amos replied, hoping to take away some of the pressure he'd just put her under "like you said that's for me and him to discuss." He hated that the atmosphere had changed and whilst he needed to know the information, part of him wished he'd never asked.
As Laurel explained further, Amos just became more and more shocked. This had been happening under his nose the entire time. He almost couldn't believe it. Dumbledore had started this? Go figure. Dumbledore was a born leader, that'd been clear from Hogwarts. But why invite Arthur and not him? Arthur was brave and intelligent, but Amos was the auror. It was his job to protect people. "Merlin" was the only thing he could manage to say in reply at first. If this Order was supposed to protect the muggleborns that did that mean the others were trying to eradicate them. He knew that anti-muggleborn hate had been on the rise but he'd never imagined this. At least this explained why Laurel had been attacked, even if he still didn't have a who. "You've been in this group this entire time?" Amos thought aloud "Merlin, you're impressive Laurel." He meant it. She'd clearly been risking her life for this cause for a while now, and whilst that worried him a little, mostly he just respected her bravery. "I'm not going to lie- that was a lot to take in" which was clearly why she'd hesitated in the first place "but things make more sense now, these attacks, it all makes more sense."

Emmeline just laughed at his expression. She knew what that scowl was for. And she just hoped he wasn’t going to fight her about it. Emmeline was going to go and rest. She just needed to tie up some loose ends first. She just didn’t want to forget something important. She would never forgive herself if she forget something important. One of her friends was dead, two other people were in custody. Two people that surprised her. She needed to make sense of it, and fast. “I am. Not good for the reputtion to randomly collapse somewhere….” She mused with a little smirk at him. She had a pretty decent reputation, and she wasn’t going to do anything to ruin it. “Shush….” She murmured, batting at his arm gently. She knew exactly what Alastor would say, which was exactly why she hadn’t been to see him yet. “Yeah right Amos….”
🦚
Amos laughed at her comment. "I can see the headline already 'The great miss Vance? Not what she used to be?' Probably next to a lovely picture of you asleep and drooling" he joked. It would be an advantage for him for Emmeline to tarnish her almost perfect reputation, but if she was going to prove he was a better Auror than her he wanted to do it fair and square "more reason to get some sleep, because that happened i'd totally bring out the pictures for your birthday every year." He actually would. Amos wouldn't be able to pass up that kind of opportunity. "Hey i'm not the one with the unhealthy work, life, balance here" he teased "I know when to prioritise myself and would have no problem leaving when I needed to, thank you very much"
