It's hard for me seeing in 2023 people saying Lucy is selfish for pursuing her professional dream, because of Tim's feelings about uc. She wants that since she was a rookie, she never hid it from Tim. When he said "unless it is", he knew what he was getting into. But now people want her to just give up her career choice to accomodate him, otherwise she is "selfish". And the thing is, I don't think Tim would ever want Lucy to give up uc for him.

hi, this is exactly why i’m tired of the ‘is UC a good fit for lucy?’ discourse. it spirals quickly from ‘it doesn’t work for the show’ to being anti-feminist in 2023.     

none of her career dev is a surprise to anyone. in fact, tim even encouraged her to attend UC school to further her career. so what? now that they’re together, he wants to put her on a leash bc her winning career-wise is picking at the scabs of his unhealed parts? that makes him look like an insecure hater.     

imagine nolan, emmett, or chris making the same demands. wait. hold on, isn’t this basically ashley’s stipulations for staying with tim? ‘pls quit ur job, so i don’t have to worry about you dying’? it wasn’t right for her to discourage him from pursuing his passions then, but suddenly it’s okay for tim to do the same to lucy?     

it’s a disservice to tim’s character to insinuate that he has worse distress tolerance than a three year-old left alone in a room with a bowl of marshmallows bc he has past trauma. he doesn’t have a monopoly on trauma, trauma is not an excuse to be a menace, and he asked her out! lucy has seen the worst of what the world has to offer, yet she’s maintained her genuinely kind and compassionate soul the entire time. there’s no selfish bone in her body.   

i’ve said it before, and i’ll say it again: a supportive partner will work on their unresolved issues instead of clipping their partner’s wings bc of them. if he were insecure, then the onus is on him to recognize his triggers, control his reactions to them, and communicate his feelings to her at the right time, place, and occasion. neither of them should be planting seeds of doubt mid-op. that could get them both killed.     

the worst part of all this is yes, tim would never ask lucy to give up UC for him! ppl are just projecting their own insecurities onto him without seeing whether the source material supports their logic.     

he’s naturally scared for her bc she’s his baby. isn’t it beautifully bittersweet that he’s rooting for her to succeed as his protege and also praying to all that is holy that she stays alive to live out the future that they’ve been dreaming of together? i’m sure she does the same on the nights she waits up for him while he’s on an op, too, but no one's asking him to quit metro for her.

Would you consider writing a fic where Grey is waiting for Tim to check in but he and Lucy are busy in the Laundry room? Lmao I was inspired by the Mr. Bean gif set. It’d be a hilarious exchagne between Tim/Grey cuz Grey knows all and I’m sure Tim came back looking…interesting ha!

Tim hurried through the precinct doors, darting around people with lightning speed as he made a beeline for Grey's office. He couldn't believe how late he was- he was never this late for anything, ever.

"There you are Sarge," Smitty greeted him, coming out of nowhere. Tim nearly crashed into the older officer as he stepped directly in Tim's path. "Grey was about to send out a search party."

Tim groaned internally, externally shaking his head at Smitty. "Are you ever out on patrol?" he grumbled, tired of this man always being up in everyone's business.

"Good luck in there," Smitty grinned, clapping him on the shoulder before sauntering away, leaving Tim with a birds eye view of Grey's office, the Sargent leaning back in his chair, his arms crossed, staring daggers at Tim through the glass.

Shit.

Taking a deep breath, Tim continued on his journey, coming to a halt just inside Grey's office, standing up straight and clasping his hands behind his back, ready for whatever Grey was about to throw at him.

"Sargent Bradford!" Grey declared, spreading his arms wide. "How nice of you to join me. I was only expecting you, oh I don't know, 45 minutes ago." He checked his watch while saying this, raising an eyebrow in Tim's direction.

"Yes Sir," Tim nodded.

"I take it the check-in went longer than anticipated."

"Yes Sir."

"Are you a broken record?"

"No Sir."

Grey sighed. "Tim, shut the door and sit down, and stop talking like a robot. You're not back in the army."

Tim did what he was told, feeling like a scolded child. As soon as he sat down, the questions just kept on coming.

"So, the check-in didn't go as planned?"

Tim's mind flashed to the images of Lucy leggings laying on the grimy floor, her bare body sprawled back against the top of the dryer, the sounds of her muffled moans and their labored breathing echoing in his ears.

Didn't go as planned would be an understatement- not that he was complaining.

Truly at a loss for words, Tim simply shook his head.

"Is Lucy okay, does she need to pull the plug?"

"No, she's okay, she's good, she just wasn't expecting that is all. She said Tesca thinks it could be one of his men, or his brothers. She's hoping to use this as an opportunity to gain his trust."

"Smart move," Grey nodded. "And how are you doing? I heard it was a close one out there."

Tim shrugged. "Nothing I couldn't handle."

The look Grey gave him was full of skepticism, and Tim could practically hear the older man saying: really, because I'm pretty sure getting shot in the back unaware and without backup is something that nobody could handle.

"I'm good, really."

"Alright," Grey raised his hands in defense. "Glad to hear it. Now go and get some rest, you're going to need it in the morning."

Tim nodded his agreement, rising from the chair and making his way towards the door.

"Oh, and Tim," Grey called, his voice smug. Tim paused at the doorframe, turning around to see Grey smirking at him. "Your shirt's on inside out."
