Happy Monday wonderful fandom :) I can’t believe we’ve reached the finale I’m in shock we're here. This has been my side hobby for 9 plus months. I started these to get through the extended hiatus. I wasn’t even sure anyone would even read them. The response I got was so lovely. I adore this fandom. So welcoming to any new Chenford content.
So thank you to everyone who’s read these especially those who've been with me since the very beginning. I can’t explain how much it has meant to me. Whether it was likes, reblogs or comments. Special shout out to my tumblr bestie @makeitastrength and @northern-neighbor You both commented on every single one of these. Thank you so much for your insight and sticking with me this entire time. Means more than you'll ever know.
I’m planning to do mini reviews during this new season. Then this same kind of thing during our hiatus hopefully we’ll have S7 locked in by then. *fingers crossed* I finished this before S6 which was my goal. We are only 8 days away which is unreal. Eeeee. Let us get started.
5x22 Under Siege
Tumblr media
This episode starts off with all kinds of anxiety. Aaron and Celina kill me with not calling the noise in WHY.... Why didn’t you call it in? Ugh. Celina lying on top of Aaron protecting him till they arrive. Rip my damn heart out right off the bat why don't ya? I’m going to cry. I love Tim and Lucy showing up to the scene together. They’re clearly off shift and showing up to the scene with each other. I love these little details they make my heart so happy.
They’re a packaged deal now and I couldn’t be happier about it. Also like to note looks like Lucy is wearing one of his jackets. Maybe they were at his place when they got the call? The sleeves look long on her and I adore it. Basically living together at this point. I can’t get over it. Just casually showing up to scenes now. Ain’t no thang. This thought is where I live till S6 LOL
Anyways Tim says he heard it was Aaron. Grey confirms this is true. GSW to the back. Looks like the same spot Jackson was shot. Eerily so. Three masked men and they were ambushed. The painful parallels to Jackson’s death in this one getting me in the feels. Grey has them start to work the scene. Lucy looks incredibly upset but is trying to keep it in check. Probably feeling the Jackson vibes too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our couple arrives at the hospital with an update. Once again arriving together. I love the quick looks we get as they approach. That silent communication of their's ever present. Also she is wearing the necklace I must comment. It’s popping against that shirt she is wearing. Like to also point out how look at each other while the other speaks. It’s the little things I love so very much. Getting massive 4x01 vibes from this scene too. Reminding me of the scene is Wes's living room night after the hug. The height difference, the way Lucy is looking at Tim as he speaks. United front power couple vibes.
So much can change and things like this stay the same I love it. They’re reporting back their CI’s have nothing. No one has heard back about a gang targeting cops. Lucy has also hit a dead end with the masks. Their next idea was Elijah but Tim says nothing out of prison confirming that. Angela and Wes are working on the riddle. Grey tells them to head home they’re not getting anywhere tonight. Once they've all left Grey turning to Luna saying he can lose another. Ugh getting me in the feels so early in this episode. More Jackson feels.
Tumblr media
Lucy and Tim get home late. The minute they’re back Lucy’s walls are down. Tim can see how upset she is. Another great callback to 4x01. To that hug. Only this time Lucy doesn’t have to ask for it. Tim seeks her out. See’s how now that they're home her work walls are down. She is visibly wrecked and can't hold back the tears any longer. I love how he pulls her right into his arms. Being the exact comfort she needs in this moment. He can't stand to see her upset. Wanting to make it better.
Tim grabbing her instantly is so lovely. Lucy crashes into him and falls apart. He gets to comfort as much as she needs now. How very far we’ve come. It’s been a beautiful journey to this point. Lucy is ready to fall apart in her safe place. Knowing Tim will be there pick up the pieces. Shield her from the PTSD this must be bringing up for her. I love how he encases her fully. One hand around her back the other gently cradling her head to his chest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tim closing his eyes wanting to absorb her sadness. The swaying and his chin on top of her head. *squee* I love her being fully enclosed in his arms. Also never be over the fact Eric improvised the kiss to her head. Forever squeeing about that fact. Our ship King is the best. Oh captain my captain. How damn intimate and sweet it is as he does as such. Then resting his head back on hers. Telling her ‘It’s ok.’ His hand in her hair rubbing her back soothingly. I cannot. Lucy was alone last time. Grieved alone and dealt with everything solo.
Now she never has to be alone again and I wanna cry at that thought. Getting emotional at how beautiful this hug is. Lovely ray of sunshine in a rather dark finale. I love this scene so much it made my chest hurt. You want to see outstanding chemistry in a short amount of time? Watch this scene. Melissa and Eric are glorious together. We truly are so lucky to have them as our ship. This is such a soft and gentle moment.
Tim pulling her in and wanting to comfort her has me all in my feels. Lucy has this wonderful man to catch her when she falls now. To be able to absolutely come apart in his arms. Knowing he’ll be there to comfort and keep her together when she does. Gah I love them so much. Also A + to whoever does the music. The song in this moment is adding to the emotional depth of the scene. Amazingly good. It’s been so on point in this season. They need a raise whoever does this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They finally have some suspects to track down. Violent felons that have connection to the station and to them as a group. Lucy offers to check on one by herself. Grey says no and Tim offers to go with her. Because he loves her and wants to keep her in his sights. They’ve all been attacked at this point. Except for him and Lucy. No way he’s letting her go solo. It’s not cause he didn’t trust her to handle herself. He can’t handle her going alone. His instincts on high alert.
Lucy telling Tim he should be out knocking down doors with Metro. Tim tells her 'He’s good'. As good as he can be without letting her out of his sights during this. Only they could so effortlessly flirt while on duty. In the middle of an intense OP. Lucy letting him know she doesn’t need him to protect her. Tim is very aware of this. Says he knows. Lucy turning this moment into some very cute light banter. Saying he is telling her he needs the protecting. Tim being sassy right back with his reply above. God I love them.
Their teasing and banter is iconic. Lucy’s next line is fantastic. I know we haven’t had an official ILY you yet. But they’ve said it so many different ways this season. In moments such as this. When we do officially get it not gonna be a shock to either of them. Tim telling her 'Back at you.' Making me all emotional. They are such a power couple and the next portion of this episode proves that. I’ve always said watching them in the field is poetry in motion. This next battle scene is literal proof of such.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s a good thing Tim came with her. I don’t want to think what would’ve happened if she’d been alone. The creepy crowd coming at them. My stomach dropped. First Tim willing to sacrifice himself for her so she could get away. *heart clutch* Man would die for her and not even blink in the decision making process. Lucy of course will not allow this whatsoever. Valiant or not he’s not falling on his sword for her.
We get a nice call back to 1x18. Not only with Lucy saying they need to go to higher ground. Like he taught her in that ep but to show no mercy. Tim instructing they hurt as many as they can and then retreat upstairs. Lucy getting exactly what he’s saying because they’re simpatico. This entire scene shows that. Also LOVE Lucy saying they only stand a chance TOGETHER. Theme of this season right here. They're better together. Damn right.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What a bad ass battle couple we have. Look at this scene. Lucy calling the audibles in this moment and Tim following her play. Repeating it back and saying 'Copy that.' Gah I love this so very much. Tim trusts her gut without question. Not a doubt in his mind to go with it. The amount of respect he has for her in the field is immense. He was going to stay behind she said no. Then Tim instantly followed her lead after that.
Damnit I love them so much. Tim’s instinct is to always protect Lucy. Where her's is to protect them both in this moment. It’s never because he thinks she can’t handle it. Tim just can’t handle the idea of losing her if he doesn’t. Started from the bottom now we're here and I’m emotional. Also the song once again killer during this epic scene.
Love her touching his arm before they engage in battle in that first one. Look at them in the final two above. I know Eric said they had a blast filming this. They are so damn in-sync. It's such an amazing thing to watch them take these people on. Like I've sad many times before poetry in motion when they're in the field. I love getting to watch the well oiled machine that is them. This was that on steroids ha
Tumblr media
Eric was so excited for us to watch this scene and I can see why. It so fun to watch. Taking these guys apart together one at a time. I LOVE Lucy taking that guy out and then grabbing his riot shield. Tim is starting to get overwhelmed and she makes work of what's around her. Running towards Tim getting that guy off her man. With a very impressive shove might I add. Sends him flying down the stairs with the others. They have to start retreating up the stairs after this. They are slowly running out of ammo as well. Backup has yet to arrive and they're battling the best they can to stay alive till it does.
Tumblr media
Harper and Nolan finally arrive on scene. Nyla tells John to get to them. She is going to get her sniper rifle even the odds a bit. Unfortunately even with higher ground they’re getting ambushed from all sides now. It's now all melee combat at this point without ammo. Tim takes a guy out with pepper spray and gets a guy off his girl.
Who is literally choking the life out of her. Tim dispatches this guy with any remaining rage he has left. Smashing this guy's face into the wall. Making sure he can't get up to get back to her. All the while Harper being a bad ass snipping people left and right for Tim. This scene is epic af. I love it so much. One of my all time field scenes for sure. They did a damn good job with this holy cow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we get an other beautiful parallel from 1x01 to now. When Lucy pulled Tim to safety mid battle. We get to see Tim do the same for her. The way Tim scoops Lucy up and carries her to safety. I’m not crying you are.... Power couple since day one they just didn’t know it yet. The way he picks her up and then shields her with his body. Gah it’s so good.
When the door opens Tim is worried it’s another bad guy. He shields Lucy with his body. Ready to take a hit to keep her protected. Not willing to let them get at her again. I’m sobbing everyone. The instinct to always protect one another. I’m drowning in feels over here in the best way. Nolan ushers them to safety. Never been happier to see John Nolan in my life LOL
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They make it to the stairway battered and bruised. Gasping for air as they try to recover from what just happened. Let’s look at the no space between them when they land on the stairs. Tim reaching out for her instantly. Placing his hand on her thigh checking on her. TWICE might I add. He touches her twice there. While checking around to make sure they’re truly safe. Lucy reaches out for his hand on the first touch. Also their heads touching as well in that first gif. Gah this mini moment has so much to it.
Tim is grounding himself in this moment through those touches. Making sure Lucy is breathing and he can stand down to catch his own breath. Such an intimate moment after an incredibly intense battle. He almost lost her so he is reaching out and making sure she’s ok. He also needs to touch her to settle himself. It was to tell her we’re ok now’s and to confirm to himself she was as well. Damnit it's so good. Don't tell me one of Tim’s biggest love languages isn’t physical touch. It for sure is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our last shot of the season for them. Just a BAMF couple post battle. Height difference that I love so much. The check in’s they do walking away knowing this could've been so much worse. Battle worn and bruised. These shots always hit harder knowing they’re together. I would like to think they would fuss over each other's wounds at the hospital. Or at home. We shall see what S6 brings for that if anything regarding it. If not sure someone will write a fic. LOL
The lack of personal space as they walk from the scene always floors me. As close they can possibly be at the moment. Sure Tim is thanking his lucky stars he came with her. I don’t wanna imagine what would’ve happened had he not. Or what Tim would’ve done had something happened. They looks so exhausted they’ve earned a good snuggle and some alone time. Sadly they're still in the middle of case so that's a no go.
Look at our power couple everyone. They're ours. We get to have them. And have a season to look forward to. I was so nervous about the season ending. Knowing this strike could last a long time and it did. Luckily we are coming out of it. Light is at the end of the tunnel. Looking forward to S6 and all the squeeing to come with it.
~~~~
Side notes non-Chenford
This episode one giant stress. One of them being when they try and take Harper’s daughter. The panic in my soul for her. My goodness this finale was great.
All of Celina's scene with Aaron pulling at my feels as well.
Thank you everyone once again who supported these reviews. They started out as a way to fill time between S5 and S6. Became a truly fun hobby for me. Kinda sad the ride is over but like I said at the beginning I’ll do mini reviews each week for s6 won’t be rid of that easily ❤️❤️ Can’t wait to delve in S6 with you all :)
Alright, I just need to ramble my love and excitement over the Rookie coming back! I’ve been obsessing over Chenford (Tim x Lucy) for the past few months. (Even started up this side blog!)
I’m not normally a cop tv show watcher so it’s been a different experience to binge the Rookie but my god, do I just really love this slow burn, emotional and physical, in-depth and heartfelt characters and relationship of these two. And of course, the hotness of them both plays a role. How can it not?!
Tumblr media
There are so many goddamn tropes. The height difference? Grumpy vs. Sunshine. Enemies to Friends to Lovers. Undercover/Fake Relationship. Denial of Feelings. Forbidden Romance. Soulmates. Being at your lowest point and being brought back up. Literal white knight and damsel in distress (both of them!) while simultaneously kickass power couple. Lucy is just so smoll. Tim conveys so much with his eyes and micro expressions.
youtube
I'm still new to the Rookie fandom but I’ve loved binging this series after season five was already out so I knew Chenford was endgame. It made it an easy and fun watch to see these characters progress individually and together. Binging made me fine with seeing them in other relationships, as they took what they needed, realized what they didn’t have, and grew closer together.
Tumblr media
So many chances for these two to have gotten together earlier (and I love those fics) but I’m glad it was five seasons of a slow burn. The build up was so worth it. To see Lucy completely break down Tim’s walls and help him see the good in the world. To see Tim push Lucy to excel, and then to show absolute faith in her as he acknowledges her skills and talents. They hit all the love languages. Anyways rant over, Chenford just makes me happy. I can't wait to watch my first canon couple in real time (also slightly afraid haha).
Also this fandom is so talented. Just wow.
Chenford Fanfic: Just Us (Finally)
The Rookie Fanfiction | Chenford | One shot | 1.3K | Rated T | Post-5x09 | Episode 5x10 alternate take | First Date | First Kiss
Here's my short and sweet 5x10 spec fic that I didn't get to post before last night's episode.
Read on AO3 (linked again below the summary and gif)
Summary: Tim picks Lucy up for their first date.
-----------
“Do you still want to do this?”
“Yes.” Her voice was soft, but her conviction was firm. “Of course I do. But I almost feel like we should stay in. Going out makes it feel too real.”
Tim stooped almost imperceptibly, lowering himself so that the difference in their height didn’t seem so stark. “Real sounds like a good thing.” He gave her a small, reassuring smile.
“It is. It definitely is,” Lucy reassured him in kind. “But real also means that if we mess things up, that will be real too.”
Chenford + Lucy, is Chris the one for you?
Lucy looked around the remnants of Nyla and James' reception party. The people she hadn't really recognized had all cleared out, but their core group and the extended cops still crowded the small dance floor or propped up part of the bar.
After three glasses of fancy champagne that had clearly shown up courtesy of the Evers family, Lucy had switched to one of the signature cocktails, a sloe gin fizz unlike the sickly sweet versions from her teen years raiding the liquor cabinets of friends' parents and grandparents.
She decided to blame the stimulating sharpness of the sloe gin for the way she knew where Tim was at every moment, even when she wasn't really looking for him.
It didn't escape her notice that neither of them had bothered to bring their significant others along to this party. She hadn't bothered to ask Chris. She wondered if Ashley had turned down an invitation or if she hadn't gotten one either.
She could still feel the heat of his hand against her back, against her palm, and felt the warmth of his easy small on the apples of her cheeks. Being held by him on a dance floor somehow felt exactly like being held by him otherwise, and yet was completely different. The version of him that was filled with joy was more intoxicating than the drinks.
She tipped her glass up and drained the last few drops from between the perfectly cubed ice. She felt Tim at her side before she saw him. She was aware of the spicy scent of his cologne. And the way his height of him blocked the bright light halfway up the staircase to their left.
He smoothly took her empty glass and slid another into her hand. She looked down at it, still with the pink hue of the cocktail she'd been favoring, and quirked an eyebrow at him. "Trying to get me drunk, Bradford?"
She could see the way he bit the inside of his cheek, but he couldn't successfully wipe the smirk from his mouth entirely. "You've been doing a good enough job on your own."
"No Ashley tonight?"
He hummed. "No Chris?"
She held out her glass and he clinked the neck of his beer bottle against it.
"You know," she said, "they're nice people."
"They are."
"I didn't even invite him," she confessed in a rush. "What's wrong with me?"
He turned toward her a little and she angled toward him, they could no longer pretend to be watching the dancing. "Lucy, is Chris the one for you?"
She stalled by taking a sip of her drink. Because just saying no didn't sound good, but it was the truth. "It's fun to be with someone. Is Ashley the one for you?"
"It's fun to be with someone," he echoed. He took back the glass he just so recently handed her and set it down on the high-top table they were standing next to. "Let's dance."
Around them, their friends bopped to the mid-tempo song but he wrapped her up, much like he had earlier, committing only to the backbeat. He had rhythm, she'd give him that, and she lost herself in the feel of the music and his hands on her skin. Never had she ever regretted a dress purchase less than she did this one. The criss-cross straps over her back just created too many opportunities to feel the way his fingers pressed into her skin.
She liked the way he'd slip his fingers just beneath the strings. She liked the way he pressed himself against her while they moved.
She didn't think either one of them was about to rush home and end their relationship, but she also felt pretty sure they'd come to something of an understanding.
When the next, faster song came on, she tightened her arm around his shoulders and threaded her fingers through the short hairs on the back of his head. He tucked a pinky down into the fabric at the small of her back and found the beat.
The tune.
Thoughts on The Rookie 4x09...
My feelings on this season and Chenford's development have been pretty clear from the start. But as always, let me preface with, I get that others haven't enjoyed the first half for varying reasons and that's okay!
That said, I really truly have and 4x09 was no exception. I loved the home reno scene - but also, who invited Lucy? Was it Tim or Genny? She just arranged to have the same day off as Tim so she could help, right?! Or did he arrange it for her? Did Genny absolutely insist on it?😏
(Also the head cannon is now that Lucy has a full on dream proposal thought up right? But I also think it's just something she thinks she wants and when Tim does the complete opposite, she realizes that's actually what she wanted all along.) 😅🤗
Now, I've said this before but the way Lucy continuously offers Tim perspective was apparent again - when he wants to take the case over immediately, tries to interrogate Monica himself and finally when Lucy brings her back in for questioning because she just had a feeling. Lucy being a smart, capable and thoughtful cop, we love to see it.
The HUG! I said this last night but I loved the parallel and how it really served as a bookend to 4x01. Tim comforting Lucy at her most vulnerable and Lucy comforting Tim at his. These two have found a comfort and intimacy with each other and I love to see it. Also both of them with their "come here" - it's so insane. Like "come here, come to me, I've got you"
I also know there's been a lot of discourse over the Tim test line and won't rehash that. But I appreciate the callback to it and how it wasn't a throwaway line. My takeaway was this - when Tim first says the Tim tests make him nothing like his father, it's almost like a plea to her - he needs her to know that. She then says "I know" and "you're nothing like him", almost taken aback because she knows this. Lucy knows this as deeply as she knows herself, I really believe that. When she hugs him and says back to him (the 2nd time) "you're nothing like him" - it's almost like a plea from her, one where she really needs him to understand that a) of course, he's nothing like his father and b) more than anyone she knows it. It spoke volumes to me about their connection and how deeply they think of and about each other. Plus Eric's face in that moment, man. The way he absolutely physically falls into that hug and takes the comfort so easily. All the kudos to Eric for 4x08 and 4x09. (Also height difference angle there, A+).
A few other thoughts on the episode in case anyone cares 😂
- I was inititally nervous to see how many cast members/guests they had in this episode but weirdly it all worked out okay?
- Smitty and Tamara were funny, I don't need Nolan to win union rep but we do need to keep Smitty around
- They continue to push Bailey on us and now with this husband storyline, I couldn't help but laugh because it's so absurd at this point. Cute that it was Jenna's IRL husband, I guess?
- I hope that this brings us to the end of Wesley's Elijah storyline and instead opens up a new thread into Angela taking over that story arc with the new cartel head, (I forget her name.)
- Definitely looks like we're getting more Enver/Donovan this season because that custody battle is about to heat up.
I know we're clearly headed for the "Ashley episodes" in the new year and I've said before, while I'm curious to see how they handle it, I'm still not worried. And if anyone has had a chance to read Alexi's interview with TVLine he mentions no UC for now and instead a personal storyline for Lucy he didn't want to spoil yet and a new love interest so I'm even more curious now, what are everyone's thoughts on that?! I hope it's something with her parents but idk!
I for one am excited for 4B! Asks are open, lmk what you think because I'm always happy to discuss Chenford/The Rookie!
Chenford fanfic - In which Tamara gives Lucy and Tim the push they need (but only after completely freaking Tim out)
Tamara was pretty sure Tim and Lucy had feelings for each other and decided to take it upon herself to nudge them forward. She was meeting Lucy for lunch today at the food trucks and was looking forward to putting her plan in motion. However, before Lucy got there Tim did and he sat down opposite Tamara to eat his lunch and talk. She could work with that.
“I bet I can describe your ideal woman and future wife,” Tamara says bluntly a few minutes into their conversation.
Tim just rolls his eyes, “What are you a psychic now or something. Did you see my future in your crystal ball?”
“No. But I do know who you’re going to marry. She’s younger than you. Gorgeous. Dark hair and eyes. The perfect height for you to kiss her forehead. She’s smart and kind and really tough, and has never given up despite the obstacles in her path. And you already think of her as family.”
Tim was so confused he didn’t even interrupt. He was completely lost until he remembered himself as a teenager, convinced he was going to marry his high school crush. Could Tamara really think anything could happen between them? Tim thought of her as a daughter and the thought of what she was implying made him sick.
“I need some air,” he managed to say as he got up and walked away without ever even looking at Tamara. He was so wrapped up in his thoughts he ran right into Lucy who was making her way towards the table he had just vacated.
Lucy was about to tease Tim for bumping into her but the words died when she saw his expression.
“Are you OK?” Lucy asked, “You look shaken.”
“I…,” he began not sure what to say, “I need you to talk with Tamara. I think she has a crush on me and I can’t deal with that. It’s too weird. I need you to set her straight.”
Lucy’s concerned expression had morphed into poorly contained laughter as Tim talked.
“What could possibly make you think Tamara has a crush on you. You know she thinks of you as a father figure. She literally calls you Dadford.”
“She said she knew who I was going to marry, then described herself.”
“She said you were going to marry a previously homeless 19 year-old, who stole a police officer’s car, then convinced the officer to let her keep the car before selling said car?” Lucy asked clearly amused.
“Not that specific but I swear she was describing herself.”
“What exactly did she say?”
“Younger than me, pretty with dark eyes and hair, tough, smart, kind, has overcome obstacles, and about this tall,” Tim finished holding his hand about level with his nose.
“Oh and she said I already think of her as family.”
“Ok I’ll give it to you that Tamara fits all that criteria but she could be describing someone else.”
“Like who?” Tim questioned.
“Angela or Nyla for two,” Lucy offered pointing at the two woman who were currently enjoying their lunches.
Tim made a face. “I guess but what would make her think I’d marry either of them. They’re like my sisters. Plus Angela’s happily married with a new baby.”
Lucy shrugged. “I’ll talk to Tamara if it will make you feel better,” she offered.
“Thank-you,” Tim said as he let out a relieved sigh. “I have to get back on patrol but let me know what she says.”
“Will do,” Lucy replied before heading towards Tamara.
“So what were you and Officer Zaddy talking about?” Tamara asks as soon as Lucy sits down.
“You, actually,” Lucy offered “You freaked him out pretty good.”
“I didn’t tell him anything he didn’t already know deep down,” Tamara replied.
“Which is that he’s going to marry…?” she drew out the last word into a question hoping Tamara would finish the sentence.
“You.”
“What!” Lucy exclaimed having been completely taken off guard.
“Well it’s obvious to everybody else that there’s something between you two. I was just trying to move things along. I didn’t mean to freak him out.”
Lucy was so overwhelmed that she quickly pushed all thoughts of Tim to the deepest, darkest corner of her mind and changed the subject. She was able to get through the rest of lunch without any mention of him and lucky for her the rest of her shift was busy, providing the perfect distraction.
However, when her shift ended and she left the station she could no longer avoid her thoughts and the feelings Tamara’s comment had stirred in her. Especially when the object of said thoughts was in the parking garage, leaning against his truck, seemingly waiting for her.
“Hey,” he greeted pushing off of his truck to meet her, “how’d your talk with Tamara go?”
“Good,” Lucy replied feeling the heat rise in her cheeks, “she does not have a crush on you so you can stop freaking out.”
“Good. But I was not freaking out,” Tim countered.
“You kind of were. It looked like you had seen a ghost,” Lucy teased.
“Well can you blame me?”
“No, but it’s all good now. Go home and get some rest. I’ll see you tomorrow,” Lucy said heading towards her car.
“Wait if she wasn’t talking about herself. Who was she talking about?” Tim asked.
“Maybe we’ll never know,” Lucy offered still facing away from him knowing that if she turned around her flushed cheeks would give her away.
“I can tell you’re lying. Out with it Chen.” Tim demanded in his best TO voice.
Lucy turned to face him but kept her head down and eyes fixed on the floor.
“She was talking about me,” she finally said barely above a whisper.
“You? Oh?” Tim finished then trailed off. He didn’t know what to say. That actually made sense. When he had thought of Tamara, or Angela or Nyla as his future wife he had felt kind of grossed out but when he thought of Lucy he felt different, hopeful?
When the silence stretched on Lucy felt the need to fill it and hopefully break some of the tension.
“Crazy, right?” she offered finally looking up from the floor.
“Is it?” he asked meeting her gaze, “I mean we already kind of act like a couple. We’re each other’s emergency contacts. You are the first person I want to talk to when something happens, good or bad. We spend at least half of our time off together. Whenever I’m in a crowded room my eyes always look for you. There’s nobody’s opinion I value more than yours. For heaven’s sake I was buying a new Bbq brush the other night and I kept thinking “which one would Lucy like?’
Lucy let out a short laugh before speaking around the the lump that had formed in her throat. “I really don’t care about Bbq brushes,” she admitted, “you on the other hand I care about a great deal and the fact that you think of me when you’re buying things for your house means a lot.
“Don’t let it go to your head,” Tim quipped cutting through the heaviness of the moment with their familiar banter.
“I wouldn’t dream of it,” she laughed “but now that I know tough guy, Tim Bradford does sappy speeches I’m going to need more of that in my life.” A playful smile appeared on her face as she stepped forward and took his hands.
“I think that can be arranged,” he offered before tenderly placing a kiss on her forehead. “But you can’t tell anyone, I have a reputation to protect.”
Lucy rolled her eyes but since her head was currently rested on his chest. Tim didn’t see. “If what Tamara said is true it seems everybody already knows. They saw right through your hardshell to your gooey centre. You should just embrace it.”
“Fine,” Tim relented, “speaking of Tamara it seems we might owe her some sort of thank-you.”
“Let’s see how the first date goes first,” Lucy teased pulling just far enough away from him to meet his eyes. “We both have tomorrow off so I’m thinking a midnight stroll along the beach. I hear the bioluminescence is currently beautiful. And I think it’s a full moon tonight. We can stop for food on the way. There’s this great little taco truck that’s open late.” As Lucy talked they made their way to Tim’s truck and he opened the passenger door for her. “We should probably grab Kojo too. He’s already been alone all day. If we’re lucky we might even catch the tail end of the sunset. And if you’re really lucky there may even be some skinny dipping involved.” At that Tim raised his brows at her but didn’t say anything. He didn’t want to interrupt her train of thought. He missed listening to her ramble. And as she continued about grabbing towels and letting Jackson know not to worry when she didn’t come home tonight. It reminded Tim of the countless hours they had spent shoulder to shoulder, just like this. Her musical voice filling the shop while they patrolled. That was over a year ago now and although this felt familiar it also felt different, new, exciting. But most of all it felt like home.
The Rookie/Chenford 3x03 Thoughts
This episode of The Rookie was really well done. It was important, and I felt like the show really worked hard to tackle a lot of important topics. I’m not going to go in depth into those, but Im very intrigued to see how the show tackles the upcoming episodes.
That being said, a few small things I loved and a few things I still need addressed this season:
LOVED:
Harper asking about Tim’s “performance anxiety.” “There are pills for that, you know.” Nyla Harper is my third favorite character (obviously after Tim and Lucy) and she proved that about nine thousand times tonight, starting with this amazing, kind of crass joke that made me laugh out loud. I love that they seem to genuinely respect and like each other. She is wonderful. She steals the scene every single time, she makes me like Nolan more, and she’s badass. And Tim losing first to Lopez for four years, and then to HIS ROOKIE was amazing. It’ll probably keep him up at night, and turn him on, so. That’s something I’m not going to stop thinking about.
“Get changed.” “Yes, sir.” Every single second of this little scene was perfection. From Tim’s tone of voice to Lucy’s flirty head tilt. I yelled about this on Twitter, but it was basically straight up porn and now I need it in an entirely different context.
“Bad puppy.” Eric Winter is KILLING IT this season, looks wise and attitude wise. It’s like somehow he’s made Bradford even more attractive, and I really, truly was not aware that was possible. His expressions and tone, especially around Lucy, are just top notch this season. And their height difference was on full display this episode, so thanks for that. I desperately needed an end scene for Tim and Lucy to calm the little disagreement of sorts they had, but I also think it said a lot about their relationship that it didn’t necessarily feel needed - they can call each other on their stuff and be a little angry but still be okay. (Although last episode left me needing an ending scene with them, too, so I’m a little disappointed.) In my ideal world, he would have walked out as Tamara and Lucy were talking and Lucy would have (easily) badgered him into buying both her and Tamara dinner and then checking on Tamara’s living situation with her.
“I stand with him.” I don’t fully believe Lucy is entirely responsible for this, because no matter how soft he may be for her, Tim is still his own man and he isn’t that easily swayed. So this was him, knowing he needed to reevaluate, and her helping him finally realize now is the time. And as a side note, I’m obsessed with him calling West Jackson a couple times now. It feels very much like influence from Lucy, and him relaxing a tiny bit, and I’m into it. Eric and Titus play so well off each other, they’re one of my favorite dynamics on the show, so if Tim is going to be involved in this Stanton storyline, I’m all the more for it giving me more Tim and Jackson interaction. And I’m glad their conversation from the last episode was addressed -- I wasn’t happy with what Tim told him, and tonight’s episode felt like a make up for that.
STILL NEED ADDRESSED:
I need some mention of Rachel and Emmett. I don’t particularly want mentions of either of them, but I need them to clue me into how the writers are going to handle them this season. Like. Just let them go gracefully, don’t drag out relationships no one was into, please. But either way, tell us sooner rather than later what’s going on. This show isn’t wildly great at consistency, so I’m gonna need some clarification on these two relationships soon.
(I know this won’t happen, but --) Stop putting Nolan in these ridiculous situations. A meth lab last episode, a scuba gear wearing shooter out of the blue this episode? I think it’s common knowledge he isn’t my favorite character (literally, besides Stanton, who doesn’t count since he’s not a main cast member, Nolan is my LEAST favorite character)  but come on. The guy doesn’t have to be the hero all the time.
The Detective Lopez Factor I LOVE ANGELA LOPEZ so much. SO MUCH. I already miss her and Jackson together all the time, so I’m glad we got that today. Them checking in with each other was great. And I’m so, so happy she’s got her promotion. I honestly would watch a show just about her kicking ass and being pregnant and sparring with Wesley, with occasional guest appearances by Tim and Jackson. I’m not super wild about what this storyline has done to the plot lines and pacing of the show, though. I feel like they’re trying to straddle this razor thin line of either too many plot lines (last week) or them converging in random, not always believable ways (this week.) I know it’s TV, whatever, but. Sometimes it’s too much. Just let Angela be a kickass detective, and SAFE, and let her and Wesley keep setting the screen on fire with their chemistry, AND find some way to get the pacing a little better, and we’ll be good.
Pls gif chenford height difference!!!! They’re just perfect!!! Also so sad just a few eps left and then we have to suffer all hiatus :( :( this season was too short and too quick, stupid Covid messing everything up!
I'm so sorry this took a couple weeks but here you go!! :))
And I know 14 episodes is so short for a show that usually does 20! It low-key feels like nothing substantial really happened especially because of all the protocols in place. We were robbed of a hug on Lucy's last day smh!! Hopefully the hiatus won't be too bad. I'm so thankful for all the fic writers. They really tide me over 😭
Happy Saturday :) We have reached S2 Finale. I can’t believe we are here already. Feels like I just started on S2. This has really helped me get through this unusually long hiatus. Fun we can do this together. Thank you all for lovely likes, comments, and re-blogs on last one. I had a lot of fun writing it. Not a ton of Chenford in this one sadly.
So it'll be a lot shorter than our content heavy ones. It is closing an important chapter for Tim though which is important to go over. This is a fairly Nolan forward ep and its good but low Chenford. It’s time to close out this season so let’s get started.
2x20 The Hunt
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We start off with our couple just starting their day. Tim confides in her about an informant he has a beat on. Love him confiding in her about this BTW. They are a slow burn with a lot of little pay offs like this we get to see along the way. I love it. Tim tells her about vice having an informant for the last 9 months in the Derain organization. A man named Cisco. Lucy gets excited cause means that he could give them Serj. A much needed win after losing the weapon that killed Chris. They don't have much on him right now. So this would be huge if they could track him down. I love how intently she listens to him knowing him sharing this is a huge show of trust.
Tumblr media
Although this is a great lead for them Tim is worried he’s been killed. Says he hasn’t replied to a meet since yesterday. Before we continue I must note I will forever and ALWAYS love him opening doors for her. Like second nature habit with him. He never allows himself to go first. Makes my shipper heart happy. Chivalry is sexy af with Tim Bradford. He shows that constantly with her. I've said before it's the little things that make me happy. I also love them having their own secret op. I need more of this in S6. They’re going to try and track down this informant and see if they can find out where he’s hiding if he's not dead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their secret op is going to start with trying to see if he can be found at his normal places. Tim mentions checking their new sex trade businesses and a karaoke bar. Lucy makes a joke how she can’t believe a karaoke bar could be a front for a brothel. Tim and his jaded cop ways saying it’s LA of course it could be haha I mean where’s the lie? Ha That anywhere in this city is a cover for a brothel. Her reply and facial expression is priceless LOL
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lucy mentions it’s Rachel’s last night. Asking if Tim has anything planned? Tim doesn’t say much just dinner and taking her to airport. He is being very detached about the whole thing. Defaulting a little to his old ways with this. Lucy can’t help herself and give him a hard time about the airport though. Let’s note the smile he’s flashing in the first gif when she’s teasing him. You know that man loves it when she does.
She also calls him out on his ‘visiting’ plans. Clearly Rachel told her Tim would come see her after she moves. Tim continues his further detachment. Says no that he’s just going to be straight with her. Rip that emotional bandaid off about this. Insisting just like he did in 2x18 that long distance doesn’t work. (Also this scene continues my love of their height difference. These shots are my fav. I must comment on them every time ha)
Tumblr media
Lucy can't help herself in trying to help him see it could work. She hates him having to go through this. The look on her face says it all. She hates the idea of him just giving up. That continued guilt of setting them up and watching it fall apart. Tim is decided and says no it’s not going to and he doesn’t see it happening at trying. Now we all know if it was Lucy he would wait for her. Make the effort. Show her she’s worth that effort. But this is Rachel and she is not that person for him.
Hell it’s why in 5x08 when Tim tells Lucy ‘She deserves someone who’s worth the effort’ was him saying she would be for him. That he would be willing to make ANY effort for her. Rachel was not that for him and this just shows in this episode. She helped him heal a lot post-Isabel but not deep enough of a connection for that kind of effort. Lucy finishes their convo out with saying she’s going to miss Rachel. Tim cracks a little emotionally and says me too…
Tumblr media
They’ve reached one of the spots they’re checking for Cisco. Once again Tim opens the door for her. She even says Thank you *be still my heart* I love these two so much. They use the guise of their ABC’s to check out this place. To be able to get eyes on everyone there if possible by doing this. The lady who runs this place is a real peach. Tells them to kiss her ass. That she follows the rules. Even the dumb ones. Tim doesn't care about her attitude they are there for a reason.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They have everyone step out into the hallway. Clearly seeing if they can get eyes on Cisco if he's there. This is a pretty slick way of getting him to show himself. To be able to get to him without exposing the real purpose of their visit. I love watching them work in the field for this reason. They are a well oiled machine at this point. Very fun to watch them in action. I will say it is sexy to watch Tim dissect this business with his cop eyes. Walking through the hallway as Lucy follows his lead. Ready to follow any play he has in mind. Lucy finds the one door still shut. Alerts Tim and he knocks on the door to get them to come out. That’s where they find Cisco thankfully.
Tumblr media
Tim pretends he is coping an attitude with him and shoves him back into the room. He "searches" him so they can talk. Cisco says after the shooting everyone's phones were taken. So Tim gets him a new phone since his old one was taken. Slips it into his pocket during his "search' Tells him to text him Serj’s location. Not gonna lie love watching him in this mode. 'Take no shit from anyone' mode right now. He’s already suppressing how he’s feeling about Rachel leaving so he’s a little pent up. It’s coming out here just a bit. Tim ends their convo and says he’s clean to the hallway of people. Then he and Lucy leave having gotten what they came for.
Tumblr media
Rachel calls Tim expecting him to be at the station. She’s on speakerphone so Lucy can hear everything. He says the day got away from him he can be back in 20 minutes. Clearly having forgotten the time for their dinner. Lucy interrupts and says Cisco texted them a location. You can see the regret on his face he apologizes he won’t make it now. Rachel is also devastated he can’t make it. He apologizes profusely.
She tells him she’ll text him when she lands…In New York…Poor Tim looks so sad he’s disappointed her. He’s such a loyal person to not come through for someone is going to weigh on him. Before Lucy can say a word he says ‘it’s better this way’ her face though... Lucy has learned when to say something and when not to. This is one of those times. Doesn't say a word let's him be. She’s hurting for him though. It's written all over his face how upset he is about this. Not the way he wanted them to end.
Tumblr media
Luckily they’re able to get to converge on Serj quickly and arrest him. Tim is able to catch her before she leaves. This is a huge moment for growth for him believe it or not. Instead of just shunting away his feelings about her leaving. (Which he was doing this entire ep and ever since she announced she was leaving really) And ignoring everything their relationship was for him he faces it. Tim's way of showing her this relationship meant a lot to him. Honestly It did she was his first real one since his divorce. It was an important chapter for him. I’ve said it all season. I am grateful to Rachel. To everything she helped him heal over.
Showing him he could open up again and have a healthy relationship. One with the possibility of a deep future. She helped heal that portion of himself. Show him he was capable of it. Which ultimately opened him up for Lucy in the future. Tim tells her he’s willing to actually give this long distance thing a go. He can't predict the future but wants to try. Now we all know they don’t make it past this episode. Because she was not his person. The growth is him pushing past his usual M.O. of suppression.
By facing what he was feeling and trying to make it work instead of being stubborn and not even trying. Lucy set them up because she wanted him to get past his S1 trauma. To push past all the crap Isabel dragged him through last season. To see him happy. That he deserved that so much in her opinion. So I’ll always be grateful for the role Rachel played in his life. It helped him eventually get to where he could be with Lucy. After this episode this chapter with her is now closed. I would get a kick out of her finding out about them now. Be interesting what she would say. Alrighty that’s all she wrote for s2 finale.
Side Notes-Non Chenford
Not a ton of chenford the episode mainly focus on John and his terrible decision making skills LOL I would've done things so differently than he did my god. Pained me to watch his terrible choices through out the episode.
Only good thing he does is go to Roslyn for insight. But the rest I would've done so differently. Harper put her career on the line for him and he just did most of it with out her. Loved Armstrong saying 'You know your problem John? You think you're better than people.' He was a dirty cop but damn if that isn't true LOL
Kills me every time to watch him tear apart that beautiful home looking for the evidence though.
Unreal we’re done with s2. Thank you to everyone who’s been with me since the pilot, to the newer ones who’ve joined me in s2, I appreciate you all more than I can say. The likes/comments/reblogs are the best. I shall see you in s3 :)
