October on the vineyard (the months have flown by). The very large ant is a bull ant and if you look closely you can see his little pincers to bite you which apparently really fkn hurts. The photo is a little deceiving but he was about 2cm long and was a lone ranger on this vine -- no other ant mates in sight.
Also the red flowers are from the lupin family and are purposely planted in the rows to help the vines grow - i was told the complete science of this but I can’t quite remember but I love that this is a natural method of aiding vine growth. They also keep massive piles of leftover grape skins and bits and pieces to use as a natural fertiliser. It smells rather funky but it works! Other than that, the other methods used to help the grapes and vines grow involves various chemical mixtures :( We will miss the vineyard but we won’t miss our clothes smelling of sulphur! It’s been the best job we’ve had in Aus and we’ve learnt so much about the manymany processes within a vineyard. The flowers have also made me very happy. Cheeeeeeers!
