‘‘–I knew what I signed up for after a year, you know? Nineteen years old, second deployment– I started catching on to what to expect. Coping with everything though.. I got through all my deployments with a little help before my last one was cut short.’‘  Wow, he didn’t know where any of this was coming from but he was quick to shake his head and try to put another subject up but her words have him stunned into silence.. for once? He doesn’t know what to say. After surveying her for a moment, he looks back down at his hands and purses his lips. ‘‘–I’ll start with letting you in. Just.. gimme a break on somethings you know? I’ll.. I’ll talk with you on whatever you want to know, and just– go from there I guess.’‘

“That doesn’t change the fact that you were traumatized by what happened. You were only a teenager at the time, you needed more than a little help to go through and deal with the aftermath of your deployment.” It wasn’t too late for him to get the help that he needed though and by talking to her about it, Amelia believed that he was one step closer to getting it. That was enough for now. “I know better than to pressure you to say or do anything. Just don’t shut the people who care about you out whenever you’re in this state because that will not do you any good and yes, I am one of the people who care. For what it’s worth, you’re already off to a good start by telling me why you’re having nightmares in the middle of the day. Now, will you eat your food before it gets cold?”

It's been a week since that night when Amelia brought a drunk Graham home yet the moment they shared in his room was still on her mind as if it happened just yesterday. That did not come as a surprise to her though, not when said moment was one of the few during which she did not have control. She would not have made a big deal of him kissing her because this is Graham we are talking about but the words that left his lips before kissing her — there was something about the way he said it that took her by surprise. If only she had gotten over that and if only she didn't feel the need to say something after leaving him without a word other than "goodnight". she would not be nervous about walking into his apartment again. It did not help that she wasn't even sure if he remembered what he said or did. She waited for him to give her a sign that he did remember but even after they finished dinner and when they were about to watch the last movie in the Before Sunrise trilogy, she was still clueless. There came a point when she couldn't take it anymore so she paused the movie and turned her full attention to him. After a minute or so of silence and of her getting the courage to do what she was thinking of, she finally spoke. "I need to do something so I know it wasn't all in my head." Before he can respond, she leaned in and connected their lips through a kiss. It was different from their kiss after dancing but it still felt right, and that scared her the most.

It was normal for Graham and Amelia's move nights to end with them cuddling until they fell asleep but that wasn't the case tonight. No, tonight, she found herself seated on Graham's lap and deepening the kiss they shared. It was easy for her to get lost in the way their lips were moving against each other but once his shirt was off, it was like her switch turned on and managed to talk as if she wasn't nervous about their current situation. "Ha, not tonight." She placed one more kiss on his lips before repositioning herself so she'd be lying down on the next space to him. Upon feeling his arms around her again, she smiled.

"I'm not sure but that is the plan. Hopefully, it'll work out."

"Mario Kart and in case you're wondering, Daisy is my my go-to character choice."

purple tulips: what’s your most prized possession?

"When I passed the bar exam, my parents gave me a desk name plate with the words "Attorney Amelia Scott" written on it They told me they had it made months before my law school graduation because they were already sure then that I would be an attorney. It's been six years since they gave it to me but nothing is more important to me than that."

picket fence: how would you decorate your dream home?

I have no specific plans for it yet but I always dreamt of having a house with its own front gate that can be opened with a remote control, at least one big window and a terrace.

"My mom collects scented candles, specifically those that smell like lavender, so that's what I smell everytime I walk through the front door of our house. So anytime I smell that elsewhere, I feel like I'm at home again for a bit."

"At the top of my head, it's taking a bubble bath."

What would you do if you could change one event that happened in your life?

“I’d do whatever it takes to prevent my first client as an intern from losing his case.”

what would you do if you found $1,000,000?

“I will use half of it to fund more pro bono cases and donate the other half to the orphanage that Theo is living in.”

“My mom asking if I received the package she sent yet. Whatever it is, she seems more excited about receiving it than I am.”

"I take my oath seriously so no, never.”

ideal partner?

“I’m a workaholic so I’m hoping that the person I’d end up with would accept that and not ask me to “lighten my workload” because my work is very important to me. He also has to be honest, open about his feelings and willing to be vulnerable because I’d rather not have a repeat of what happened with Liam or with Graham the first time we tried being together. Other than that, I’m hoping that he’s kind and has a good sense of humor.”

👀 + has there ever been a case in which you felt as though you grew TOO attached to a client? to the point where your motives were even questioned by others?

“A year ago, there was this 7 year old boy named Theo who paid my office a visit one day. He said he learned about me through the news and he asked me to help him be free from his abusive parents. Emancipation of minors is not my forte and he didn’t have enough money to pay for a lawyer’s fee so I helped him find a guardianship lawyer who would take in the case pro bono. My boss thought that I helped him that much because I wanted to adopt him myself but I didn’t even think of doing that until after he brought it up.  Theo is emancipated now and has been living in this good orphanage that I found for him, and I do plan on adopting him once I have things settled.”

👀 what's the most rebellious thing you've ever done?

“There was this one time when I was sure that the lawyer I was going against was hiding information that could help my client win so I hacked the security system of their office and snuck in so I can make a copy of all his files. I would have been caught by the security guard if I didn’t go out through the window in time. It was exciting.”

“Liam.”

be honest, what's one thing you regret in life?

“Not seeing the signs that Liam was going to leave me at the altar.”
