The entire world had to close in order for me to run out of distractions from writing. Huh.

Can I give completely unsolicited advice to fantasy writers that I wish someone had given me when I was into fantasy writing? The cliche “write what you know” is bad advice if taken literally, it’s how we get books about depressed middle-aged creative writing professors who contemplate having an affair. But generally speaking it can be helpful. Tolkien wrote a medieval fantasy because he was the world’s foremost expert on medieval English literature. His book about Beowulf is still considered academically significant. He gave every race detailed languages because he was also a linguist. He wrote about giant battles because he was traumatized by his time in World War I and wrote during World War II. You don’t have to do any of this because that isn’t you. You are allowed to write a whole fantasy epic without a single battle (or you can make battle scenes modern urban melees because clashes of great armies aren’t a thing anymore.) If, say, you’re really into fashion, feel free to describe in painstaking detail every outfit that elves wear for all possible occasions. I promise you it’s no weirder than describing the dialects of tree people. What I’m saying is, you’re not Tolkien and that’s a very good thing because your voice is needed more. Let your freak flag fly and make the world that comes from you specifically.

Words Used to Describe Genitals
So at one point someone suggested we start a list of words used in fanfiction to describe genitals. After a particularly great Twilight fic was submitted, I decided to start that list, and Im providing what the phrase is describing. It will be updated as more words and phrases are found. And feel free to submit ones you’ve heard :3
Also check out the lube list!

“Everything was agony. His whole body burned, the magic in his veins pulsing too strongly, like a tempest of pure fire--an inferno raging through his blood. He could feel his body drenched in sweat, feverish and hot, dripping down his face, his neck, his shoulders, arms, waist, belly.
But he was, undoubtedly, alive.”
Haven’t been posting all my snippets. Oops. Here’s one from a while back, not too long after Veryn is finally introduced into the book. :D

I’m still alive, just haven’t been putting out much art. Here’s a wholesome Veryn looking very happy and amused. Using him as practice for more facial expressions, because I’m trying to keep myself from always defaulting to a neutral expression in my work. Plus I just love drawing him so much. He’s my favorite.

It’s no secret that the best place to write, in my opinion, is in a café. You don’t have to make your own coffee, you don’t have to feel like you’re in solitary confinement and if you have writers block, you can get up and walk to the next café while giving your batteries time to recharge and brain time to think.

“It was a dreadful process, with blood slicking nearly every surface, and her hands were shaking, and she was still bleeding, and she’d just committed a crime, and the air was steeped with the stench of too much blood, and when she had finished dressing the wound as well as she could manage, she stood, walked to a corner of the room, and retched.”

I wrote a scene of my novel yesterday that I highly enjoyed, and I got the urge to draw it. Introducing Iyasha, a firemancer from a faraway land here to wreck your shit.
Click the “read more” below to read the excerpt this piece is based on~!
Iyasha stopped laughing. Her movements slowed, her fists clenched, and her eyes, moments before a deep black, were now a dark, stormy blue.
“I have to say, that was rather rude,” she said darkly, and Elana’s hair stood on end at the change in her voice—it was layered thickly with a deep undertone unnatural to any human. But it occurred to her, then, that Iyasha might not be human after all. Glowing threads of orange began to crawl up her arms in the distinct pattern of dragon-like scales, and when she looked back up, Iyasha’s eyes were gleaming a bright sapphire blue.
“What are you going to do about it, scalie?”
“You’re going to regret saying that,” she said in her layered tone, flashing a wolfish grin, sharp canines glinting in the light of the moon. Iyasha uncurled her fists and wiggled her fingers, which were now glowing bright orange, and as she cracked her knuckles, golden sparks shot out of her skin like embers out of a campfire.

“His lips tasted like early spring mist but felt like warm candlelight--a slow and steady and soft flickering of heat that blossomed from her lips down to the tips of her fingers.”
not sure why I didn’t think to post these little snippets on here lol oops. I’ve been pulling little tidbits here and there as I write to share on social media. This one is farther in the book where I am currently but it came to me as I was falling asleep last night. It’s definitely going to be tucked in the book somewhere! :)

Regarding the tumblr ToS updates
I don’t have a lot of followers on here but I just wanted to give y’all some options in the unlikely case my NSFW posts get taken down. The ToS says that erotic writing won’t be affected but I wanted to just let y’all know just in case, that I also will post all of my explicit/nsfw content on my AO3 account, which I have linked below. Feel free to follow me on there in the case my NSFW content gets purged!
The Mythical Pen AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/users/themythicalpen
I also have a blog that is self-hosted where I try to post everything I write as well. the link is below.

Thank you!
