not really a question, I just want to talk about my experience and know if it's normal.
I'm a factkin of a singer who's still alive, and i genuinely identify with him and as him, but I feel really guilty because of that. I don't know why, it's probably because of what people think about factkins? Maybe.
I usually just say I kin the cartoon version of him instead of HIM because, well, the cartoon version isn't really him. The cartoon version is really "me" and I do kin it as that version, but I do kin him as THE person too and I feel guilty about that, is that normal?
I'm also considering / kinsidering another singer because I do "kin" slash identify a lot with him but I feel even more guilty because he's dead and he doesn't have a cartoon version I can use to excuse myself EUGHHHHH I have even thought about saying that I'm a system (even though I'm not) to just say it's a factive eugejdjksbdnsb I hate being a factkin it's genuinely so weird and hard and
Hey anon!
I can't tell you if your experience is 'normal' or not but what I can tell you is that you're not hurting anyone by being who you are. Lots of factkin do feel some kind of negative feeling associated with their identity, whether it's shame, guilt, sometimes trauma, annoyance, or even anger. I can say that you have nothing to feel guilty for but I know that likely doesn't do much to help you.
If I could make a suggestion, if there is somewhere in your life where you see a lot of negativity towards factkin you should take a step back from it. Maybe that means muting or leaving a discord server/other online space, maybe it means not scrolling through the factkin tag, maybe it means avoiding certain topics with your friends. If you can take a couple steps back it may be helpful to you.
If there is no space in your life like that and you just feel guilty for internal reasons, I suggest you start practising more self-care. Let yourself be who you are without punishing yourself for it. Every day, try saying something nice about yourself. You can think it in your head if saying it out loud is too hard. Just be nice to yourself. <3
You are not alone. You are valid. There is nothing wrong with your identity. <3
Have a nice weekend anon!

I know uve probably responded to this before many times but whats a factkin?
Hey hey! I actually haven't answered this many times! The short definitions are:
Otherkin: someone who identifies as something nonhuman on a non-physical level. This is often for spiritual reasons like reincarnation. This identity is usually called a kintype.
Factkin: an otherkin who's kintype is a person who exists/has existed in our world.
If the definition is confusing, this may help: Many if not most people believe that their body and their 'self' are two different things. You can call it what you want, soul, spirit, psyche, etc.
Some people feel like their 'self' drastically does not match their body. Some people feel like their 'self' is better represented by a plant, animal, fictional character, object, other person, etc. These people often identify as otherkin.
I hope this helps! If you like my blog, please do a daily click for Palestine here: https://arab.org/click-to-help/palestine/ It makes a donation to UNRWA without you having to pay anything at all.

i think i might be a irl/'canon'-divergent factkin. my experiences and memories past 2019 as my facttype are very different from the source, but i'm not sure yet? i'm still very confused and trying to figure out my feelings as this specific facttype.

That's valid and I may be in the same boat as you, A.
Have a good week ahead and take care!

Questions about factkin
1. How did you find this out about yourself?
2. To me it feels kind of morally wrong. I can’t put it into proper words, I only found out about this whole thing just now. Obviously isn’t not identify theft like the real crime, but it’s still taking who somebody is. If that makes sense to say. People usually get tilted when somebody copies their looks and such. This feels similar, except with all of it instead of just the exterior. So, I feel like most people being kinned wouldn’t be okay with it based of that. How does that feel? Idk, I don’t really have a concrete question here. I just wanna hear your point of view regarding this.
Also I don’t know how tumlr works. So um, there’s a chance I messed something up
I found out I was otherkin when I was about 14 years old. I realized that not everyone feels like their soul isn't 100% human and I had to reckon with that for a minute. I figured out I was factkin when I was around 16. I realized that the way I felt about wolves and dandelions and angels was also how I felt about, for example, Edgar Allan Poe, and I had to reckon with that. In any case, I realized at a very young age that I was, on a spiritual level, multiple things that were not the physical me and I had to reckon with that.
2. A) Obviously isn’t not identify theft like the real crime, but it’s still taking who somebody is. If that makes sense to say.
I would disagree with this in the sense that I am not taking anything away from my facttypes. I will use Eminem as an example because he is the only one of my facttypes that is presently alive. Eminem is still Eminem. On a spiritual level I identify as Eminem also but I know I'm not the "prime" Eminem if that makes sense.
B) People usually get tilted when somebody copies their looks and such.
People who gets upset about being "copied" by other people are usually upset less about the copying act than about the implications of the copying.
There are a lot of white guys with bleach-blonde buzzcuts. Does Eminem have the right to get mad at them? No, obviously. But, if I bleached my hair blonde, buzzed it off, and went on social media to mimic and mock Eminem, he would likely get mad. He would not get mad because I looked like him, he would get mad because I was using my looks to mock him.
C) This feels similar, except with all of it instead of just the exterior. So, I feel like most people being kinned wouldn’t be okay with it based of that.
I don't copy Eminem's interior either. I don't act like Slim Shady everywhere I go. I hold a private, spiritual identity, but I recognize the differences between us. We do not make the same choices. I do not go out of my way to act like him. Being factkin is more than being a doppelganger and a copy-cat.
Many factkin, like myself, are very different from our facttypes. You don't have to live in the forest and eat raw meat to be wolfkin, you just have to identify as a wolf. Likewise, you don't have to act the same as your facttype to be factkin.
Maybe he would take an issue with me being factkin, but since it is an involuntary spiritual identity I cannot do much about it. It is extremely likely he will never be impacted by it, though, considering how I am pretty private about it outside of this Tumblr blog and how I don't go out of my way to be like him in my every day life.
I hope this made sense anon! Thank you for the ask and if you find my blog helpful please do a daily click for Palestine!

uhhh im factkin aswell how do you like. deal with that
Hey anon, I'm afraid I don't have much of a satisfying answer for you.
How do you deal with what?
How do you deal with negative feelings about yourself? Self love is a muscle and in any case the more you use it the stronger it gets.
How do you deal with negativity from others? There is no one way but the way I do it is just to remember that how I feel about myself is more important than how they feel about me.
How do you deal with the actions of your facttype? They are their own person and they are going to do what they are going to do. You can only control what you do.
How do you deal with missing people from your canon? Let me know when you find out :'''' I just do things that make me feel close to them or read/research about them. It helps at least a little.
You are valid and you are loved. I hope you have an easier time going forward.

Hi! I basically just figured out I'm factkin (after finally deciding not to listen to all the stereotypes) and finding your blog has made me feel so much better about it. I personally believe I'm just an alternate version of him, from a different timeline or universe or something, but I felt so scared that I was somehow appropriating his identity or something. I feel so much better knowing I'm not alone. Thank you for your blog. :)
I'm so happy for you! Congratulations on finding out more about yourself. Coming to terms with a new identity is not always easy. (In my experience, it rarely is easy.) I'm glad you have made peace with yourself in this way! Congrats!!! <3 <3 <3

okay so i'm more neutral for factkin. i don't fully understand it, and honestly it just feels kinda... creepy? to me?
the idea of someone being kin with me just makes me feel very uncomfortable. but i understand that factkin is involuntary, just like fiction and alterhuman as a whole, so i certainly dont go around harassing them and shi.
but i'd like to understand factkin more. why do i only see factkin of famous people? how does factkin work? do you believe you were this person in a past life, or do you believe you are them right now?
and if you dont mind, can you explain your own experience?
Hello! Thank you for your patience. I wanted to answer this thoughtfully so it took several days.
This is a really *really* good question with a lot of layers so I'm gonna tackle it in stages! This got long so I put it under a cut.
First of all, I'd like to talk about your first statement. "the idea of someone being kin with me just makes me feel very uncomfortable." You are allowed to feel uncomfortable! Your feelings are valid and discomfort is an entirely neutral feeling. It is even *good* to feel uncomfortable sometimes because when you feel uncomfortable you are given a chance to question why.
I applaud you for not allowing your discomfort to interfere with the way you treat people. It is a very mature thing to say "this makes me uncomfortable but live and let live." The good news is, you will likely never have to worry about someone being you-kin! "Why do I only see factkin of famous people?" is a VERY common question and it has a pretty simple answer: survivorship bias.
Take, for example, a wolf therian. Wolves are a very well-known animal and there are lots of ways to know you feel like a wolf that the average person would just already know. Now, take a Vulturine Guineafowl. You might be asking "wtf is a Vulturine Guineafowl?" There are almost certainly more awakened wolf therians than there are Vulturine Guineafowl therians out there. Why? Because when you know something very well and have an awareness of the thing it becomes much easier to know if you are it or if you are not it. More people have an awareness of John Lennon than of John who lives down the road. Therefore, more people will identify as John Lennon than will identify as John who lives down the road.
(Side note!! Factkin are NOT by any means always celebrities! I have met people who factkin their pets. I have met people who factkin unknown people depicted in drawings from the middle ages. You just see celebrities more for the reason above.)
How do factkin work? The same as any other type of otherkin! I used therians in my first example, so I will use fictionkin for this one. Some fictionkin believe they were their kintypes in a past life. Some fictionkin, even those who died in canon, believe they are their kintype right now in a parallel life. Some fictionkin identify as fictionkin for entirely non-spiritual reasons. In the same vein, some factkin identify as their kintypes because they believe they were them in a past life. Some identify as them for completely separate reasons.
The "why" of being otherkin is as varied as any other aspect of the otherkin experience and that rings true for *any* kind of otherkinity.
I speak best when speaking from my own experience so I'm very grateful you've given me a chance to. I am a spiritual otherkin and I believe that my kintypes come from parallel lives. To make it simple: I believe there are infinite universes with infinite possibilities and that the mes some of those universes are connected to the me in this one.
I believe that in a parallel life I am René Descartes. I am Eminem. I am Peter III of Aragon, and I identify as them in this life because I feel like them the same way I feel like a wolf or a goat (some of my other kintypes.) It feels right to be called by their names. Sometimes, I have dreams or just nagging funny feelings that I count as memories. I have laughed out loud in history classes before because of the way my professor talked about Caesarion. Likewise I have had my stomach turn while listening to people eviscerate Edgar Allan Poe. I miss my wife, Constance II of Sicily, every time I see a picture of her, and I feel embarrassed when I listen to some of Eminem's latest songs.
I can't give any sort of empirical proof for this belief; I study philosophy so that I can learn what that proof might even look like, so for now all I can tell you is how I feel. I am very much open to talking more about this.
I hope this helped! I know it was long. Thank you for your question as it means a lot to me to hear from factkin-skeptical folks. Thank you for reading. Have a nice week!
