Wonderland Curse
186 posts
My name is Alyssa, I am 17, and I am cursed. One of my ancestors was Alice Liddel, the one who that Lewis Carrol wrote a book about. They labeled her tales fiction, I label it truth. Why is it truth? Because if it wasn't, then I wouldn't be cursed.

Oh Look, Statues || Alyssa || One Shot
After leaving Damien I strolled through the temple carefully and soon found myself in a very familiar area; the bloodbath. There were still blood spatters where the other tributes had died. However the bodies that once held the blood were no longer there. Tilting my head I carefully walked around the splatters, not wanting to come into contact with them, and headed toward the thing that caught my eye. The giant gold statues.
My eyes couldn't help but be drawn to them, there was a long line of them, all of them ranging from different shapes and sizes and different depictions of animals or people. I flashed back to my garden. I remember there being a little stone man that sat covered under different plants. When I asked Morpheus about it he told me that it was a statue people used to pray to for good luck or something.
Returning back to reality I blinked a few times and then went along the line of statues and bowed to each of them and took in their features and looks. If these things really did grant good luck to those that prayed, then why not do it? I was after all in a fight to the death with 23 other teenagers.
After I went down the line and bowed to each and every one of the graceful statues I heard more footsteps. Taking no time for hesitation I quickly and silently make my way behind the statues, blocking me from view. They blocked my from view but there were small gaps that allowed me to see through them well enough. I saw two tributes exit the temple in a hurry. I shook my head slightly, they were most likely going to get caught. They were making such a commotion.
Placing one hand carefully on the back of one of the statues I decided that this would be a good place to rest for now. I carefully placed my backpack down and opened it, taking into account each and every item that lay inside.

If You Can't Stand the Heat, Get Out of the Arena || Alyssa || One Shot
The wood creaks under my feet as I walk around. It was because of this sound that I knew I wasn't alone, there were many other creaks around the area that didn't belong to me. For a time I just stood there and listened to the sounds of tributes in the temple.
Some were quick and rushing, these must be the ones that were trying to get out fast. Some were slow and steady, like mine. They must be the ones that were trying to be cautious or explore the area. Then there were the ones that sounded normal, ones that didn't care how loud they were or who they attracted.
The sounds of these footsteps told me things, whether they were good or bad, I would find out later. A few minutes after being in this arena I could tell and feel that this place was going to be hot, all day, everyday. I had nothing against heat. When I would spend my days in my garden it was often sunny and hot, but that didn't stop me from being there; neither would this heat and humidity.
I flicked my hair out from my face and let it fall down my back and near my waist. I looked down at my hands and gazed at the 5 throwing needles that were placed between my fingers like claws. In the process I also couldn't help but stare at the device around my wrist. It was called a "watch". I remember Lucy having one with her at all times as well as my escort, Frenny, though hers was a bit fancier and bigger.
Letting my hands drop to my side I turned around, carefully due to the backpack resting on my back, and saw Damien a few feet in front of me, looking at me with freight in his eyes.
I stopped and stared. I hadn't seen this boy in training, he had eluded me. I do remember seeing him from the reaping, that's how I knew his name. We both stood there for some time, neither of us moving. I shrugged, he didn't want to fight and neither did I, that much I could tell.
I walked up to him casually and watched as he tensed up, gripping what looked like an axe. He was no doubt expecting me to attack him. With a dazed expression I reached him. I lifted up one of my hands up to his head and patted the cranium a few times. I looked him in the face and gave him a smile.
"Good luck..." I whispered with a fading voice as I stopped patting his head and walked past him, leaving him there as I went to explore the rest of the temple.

Interview: Alyssa Gardener, District 6
Caesar Flickerman: And now our female tribute from District 6, she's another higher PT scorer. Let's hear it for Alyssa Gardener! *crowd cheers*
Alyssa: *Walks toward Caesar and stares at him and the crowd with interest* Hello…*voice trails off*…It’s nice to finally meet you Caesar!
Caesar Flickerman: You too, my dear, you too. Sit sit, tell us how you're enjoying the Capitol so far?
Alyssa: *sits down carefully* Oh I really love the capitol so far. *turns to audience* You people make excellent desserts. *turns back to Caesar* I've become addicted to your petit fours.
Caesar Flickerman: Indeed we do, Alyssa. I try to stay away, I'm watching my girlish figure! *crowd laughs* Tell us, what was life like back in Six for you?
Alyssa: *smiles at Caesar* Well life was kind of different for me. I was deemed to dangerous to handle machinery of any kind...*stares at colorful people in the crowd* Because of that I never really had the chance to do much, like work, but I liked it that way.
Caesar Flickerman: *peers nervously* Too dangerous, you say? Care to elaborate?
Alyssa: *turns to Caesar after a few seconds of not noticing he's looking at her* Oh. Well they decided that I wasn't fit to operate those types of things...Not because I'm demented *turns to audience* contrary to popular belief *turns back* I just...to be honest I'm not entirely sure. All I know is that because of this...*blinks*...because of this I spent most of the days in my garden.
Caesar Flickerman: *looks at her confused* Well we'll just move right along then. A garden you say? Perhaps President Snow would be interested in such a place. Have you been up to the roof of your suite building?
Alyssa: *tilts head with a puzzled expression* No, why? I didn't know I could go to the roof...that would have made a lot of things easier...
Caesar Flickerman: *chuckles* Maybe you can check it out tonight. There's a nice garden up there. Shifting hears, here, are you ready for the arena, Alyssa?
Alyssa: Hmm...I think I will Caesar, *smiles lightly* thank you. *blinks a few times* I have no idea...I don't think anyone really is, despite what they say. There's a 1 in 24 chance I'll make it out alive, but I try not to think about that. I try to stay...*voice trails off*...happy. I'm going to try my best and do everything to the best of my ability. But if I die...then at least I tried, right?...
Caesar Flickerman: I suppose so, my dear. Anything to say to your family back home before you head off?
Alyssa: Oh! I do in fact. *looks for camera* Mom, I've found him...Morpheus and Tarrant...*tilts head*...Please don't forget me...And to Lucy...*raises middle finger and then turns to Caesar* I've been wanting to do that for a long time.

I was a little confused with her statement. She seemed like a nice person, what could have made the others not want to meet her? Ignoring it I did as she directed and sat next to her, watching as she took a strangely shaped glass of some sort of alcohol.
"Oh I really like the capitol so far. I like the petit fours.." I said rather awkwardly.

“No need to worry, and no it’s not stealing.” I hadn’t seen the girl at all apart from Private Training so of course she wouldn’t have seen me and I didn’t really expect her to know who I was.
“Alyssa I can honestly say you’re the first person that has been pleased to meet me, some of your peers would contest to that” I laughed a little before waving a waiter over and taking a flute of champagne. “Come sit down” I lead us to a collection of stools and sit down in front of Alyssa.
“So how are you liking the Capitol?”

I smiled a little when she complimented my hair. Then my face turned to stone when she said she was my gamemaker. How could I have been so stupid?
"Oh. I'm sorry..." Wow, this was a new feeling. I hadn't been embarrassed in a long time. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a waiter walk near me and I quickly turned and snatched a glass of water off his tray.
"Apparently that's not stealing." I said before taking a sip of water, my eyes zooming in and out of focus. I brought the glass down from my lips. "Well, it's nice to formally meet you Minnie."

The girl wasn’t drunk, she was just strange and seemingly away with the clouds as my mother would say. She seemed to be the type of person who bumped into others a lot and sing when it rains, but maybe I was just being a bitch.
“It’s okay, it’s a beautiful colour, I’d always wanted to go that blonde but I never thought it’d suit me and I’m your Gamemaker child, Minerva Monroe but you can call me Minnie.”

I tilted my head at her statement and then automatically reached up and touched my hair lightly. "My hair? Oh and yes, I'm Alyssa. Alyssa Gardener," I smiled lightly and let my hand drop from my hair.
"I'm sorry I was just worried that I had bumped into someone. I tend to do that a lot, I'm afraid..." My voice drifted off as I remembered all the countless times I had bumped into someone and made them fall.
I snapped back to reality and realized that I had not asked for her name. "Is it alright if I ask for your name, Miss?"

Arriving to a party on time had never been my thing and with a theme like this I had to make the most of it. By the time I stepped into the room, it was in full swing, bottles of champagne lay empty and prospective sponsors mill around excitedly acting as if they were the most important people in the world, idiots. The first thing that caught my eye was a mass of beautiful white blonde hair, I walked up to the girl and when she turned around she looked a little terrified, why I don’t know.
“No you didn’t, I was just admiring your hair from afar, you must be Miss Alyssa from District Six, it’s lovely to meet you”

Oh dear, this was not good. After I left Brefina I was trying my best to find where Morpheus had escaped too but to no avial, he still eluded me.
I started to turn around when I saw someone right behind me. I stopped mid turn and backed up a bit. Oh no, I hope I didn't bump into them.
"I'm sorry miss, did I bump into you?"

My eyes widened and deep down I felt sorrow for this poor girl. She had no idea what she was missing.
I grabbed her arm and began leading her through the crowd, looking for the food table. This was a matter of life and death here. Eventually we got to the table and lo and behold, there were petit fours. I grabbed a couple and gave some to her. "They're little cakes. I discovered them on the first day here. Try them." I popped one into my mouth and while I was chewing I saw something out of the corner of my eye. Morpheus.
I tapped Brefinas shoulder. "I'm gonna go for a bit, got some people to see and things to look at. I'll see you later ok?" I smiled at her one last time before turning and walking off, following the man with the pinstriped suit.

At the suggestion of food, she was completely focused.  I frowned at her.  I had no idea what those were.  “What’s that?” I asked curiously.

I looked around as we walked, taking in every single detail in case I needed it. Then I heard the mention of one of the most sacred things in the world. Food.
My head twisted to find hers and I looked at her with a dead serious face. "Will there be petit fours there?"
Mischief Managed || Alyssa & Brefina
I nodded at her comment, even though I had no experience what a prostitute’s breath smelled like.  I assumed like this.
The flowing figure appeared again, floating alongside us as we walked.  Her eerie expression followed us as we made our way around the party.
“I’m a bit hungry.  Do you want to come grab some food with me?”

My first impression of the ball was a special one. It was loud, it was full of people, and there was a distinguishable smell of alcohol in the air. How lovely.
"It smells like a prostitutes breath in here." I couldn't help but comment. Alcohol was not one of my favorite things in the world.
Mischief Managed || Alyssa & Brefina
I nodded.  “Of course.  What would you like to see first?”  We passed by a large water fountain with detailed carvings on the statues and to our right, were some gambling tables.  On our left, was a small dance floor.
“I haven’t really been to a lot of the things,” I added.  I just quickly walked around.”
